darren1983
Been a couple months since I last played FM as got a bit bored but I fell over recently and managed to damage my ankle so am on rest duty for a bit and started to play FM again and refound my big for it. Thankfully I kept this save and loaded back up to have a play around and I'm back! When I left I was manager of Lyon having just won the league. Midway through the following season a new opportunity arose that I couldn't say no to and I became the new manager of Flamengo. Before I could take over though I had the 2031 Asian Cup with South Korea Group Stages Uzbekistan 0-2 South Korea - a comfortable start for us with the goals coming from a CB and our LB, not the most likely of sources South Korea 2-0 Vietnam - another nice win for us with our striker getting in on the act with both goals Indonesia 0-5 South Korea - massive win for a rotated side saw us easily win the group 2nd round UAE 1-1p South Korea - a real struggle, lots of chances but most from long range while they scored their only shot, we won 3-1 on pens but this should have been an easy passage through 1/4 finals South Korea 4-0 Syria - this was more like it, I lost my 2 wide men to suspension here but their replacements came in with Ahn on the right scoring 2 and Lee on the left assisting 2 so they played themselves into the team here for the semi final Semi finals Australia 2-5 South Korea - this should have been the final, the 2 best sides in the comp but we blew them away with 4 goals in the opening 28 minutes making the 2nd half a formality. Ahn scored 3 from the right making me look stupid for not playing him from the start of the tournament Final South Korea 1-0 China - this was closer than I;d have liked, a first half goal from Ahn (what a clutch player he was - 6 goals in 3 knockout games) saw us through, was also fun coming up against several players in the China squad that I gave debuts too back in my Guangzhou days I resigned after the tournament to focus on Flamengo/wait for another international job, though I'm pleased to knock another trophy off the list Career Progress Season Team Country League Position Notes 2018/19 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 3rd Lost in playoffs 2019/20 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 1st Promoted as champions 2020/21 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup runners up 2021/22 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup winners, left on 11/3/22 2021/22 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 2nd took over in 5th on 11/3/22 2022/23 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 1st League & Champions League winners 2023 Guangzhou Evergrande China CSL 1st Took over with 13 games to go. darren1983
Season 2031 Flamengo State Championship - Started slowly here as team got used to my tactics and I figured out my best side, most sides were cannon fodder and we won it with ease as expected League - this was a proper battle, us and Palmeiras pulled away and were neck and neck all season, they stumbled with 5 games to go but we lost our 2nd last game (both of us lost away to Internacional) meant we had to win the last game to secure the title. We ran out comfortable winners to win the league at first attempt Cup - A comfortable run and win here, only issue was the fixture congestion, we played at least once (often twice) in every midweek from June to October because of our run here (in fact we ended up play 77 games this season) Copa Libertadores - Another comfortable run here aside from the first leg of the semi final (why is Internacional away such a bogey ground for me?) and the final was a tough game with us going down to 10 men on HT with the score 1-1 but some great counter attacking won us our 4th title of the year Club World Cup - Didn't expect much here but with Real Madrid losing their semi final it opened up for us and was a very comfortable title Career Progress Season Team Country League Position Notes 2018/19 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 3rd Lost in playoffs 2019/20 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 1st Promoted as champions 2020/21 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup runners up 2021/22 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup winners, left on 11/3/22 2021/22 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 2nd took over in 5th on 11/3/22 2022/23 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 1st League & Champions League winners 2023 Guangzhou Evergrande China CSL 1st Took over with 13 games to go. darren1983
Season 2031/32 League - Took over with 15 games to go and the side sitting in 9th place, we only lost 2 games but also only won 6 (and only faced 3 sides that finished above us) so there's a lot of work to do here. We were already out of the cup and had fallen into the Europa League after being in the Champions League. Europa League - a good run to the final here as bigger and better sides fell away while we got through and this quickly became our best route into the Champions League and it proved so with us beating fellow Italian side Sassuolo in the final Career Progress Season Team Country League Position Notes 2018/19 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 3rd Lost in playoffs 2019/20 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 1st Promoted as champions 2020/21 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup runners up 2021/22 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup winners, left on 11/3/22 2021/22 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 2nd took over in 5th on 11/3/22 2022/23 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 1st League & Champions League winners 2023 Guangzhou Evergrande China CSL 1st Took over with 13 games to go. darren1983
Season 2032/33 League - we closed the gap on Juventus but still fell well short, we actually did well against them (2-1 win at home and 1-1 draw away) but we just failed to beat some of the lesser teams, especially away from home, still though going from 30 points behind Juventus to 9 (with them getting 3 more points this year vs last) is progress. Cup - Really annoyed to go out at the 1/4 final stage. We just never got going and paid the price Champions League - a great run really, finishing 2nd on a group with Barcelona and Liverpool was encouraging, winning the home leg of the knockout gave me cause for hope but they were better than us in the 2nd game and we got knocked out Overall a decent season (my first for years with not trophy) but still lots of room to grow, I'm slowly (too slow for my liking) bringing the average age of the squad down and bringing in younger players and that will continue over the summer but before next season I have a trip to the USA with Mexico for the... 2033 Gold Cup Group Stage Mexico 2-0 Jamaica - a good solid start from us in what on paper was our toughest game of the group stage Martinique 0-3 Mexico - another breeze for us, 2 early goals and an injury time winner sent us through with a game to spare Curacao 0-1 Mexico - we changed the entire starting 11 and it showed as we struggled to break them down, the winner coming in the 80th minute 1/4 Final Trinidad & Tobago 0-2 Mexico - tougher than it should have been, we hit the woodwork 3 times as we tried to breakthrough, 2 late goals saw us through though Semi Final El Salvador 0-2 - as injury and fatigue started to affect us I rotated half the team but we never looked in trouble, 2 goals before half time meant I could rest some more players after the break with the final just 3 days later Final USA 0-1 Mexico - beating the hosts in the final (first time in 10 years they had made the final) with an early goal, from there we hung back and tried to pick them off on the counter, we never got the 2nd but it didn't matter as we were never troubled and ended up as Gold Cup winners Career Progress 2018/19 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 3rd Lost in playoffs 2019/20 Tshakhuma South Africa 1st Division 1st Promoted as champions 2020/21 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup runners up 2021/22 Tshakhuma South Africa Premier League 4th Cup winners, left on 11/3/22 2021/22 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 2nd took over in 5th on 11/3/22 2022/23 Orlando Pirates South Africa Premier League 1st League & Champions League winners 2023 Guangzhou Evergrande China CSL 1st Took over with 13 games to go. During the season I turned down the chance to take over Liverpool as felt I could win the league with Milan, we then fell apart a bit and finished 9 points off so maybe I was wrong. During the summer the Man United job came up and I did apply but didn't even get an interview which was annoying so now I want to take over City in England As a result I've got a year left on my deal here in Italy so hoping I can win the league here then move on next summer. ssestig
2015 Season: Took over midway through the season when the club were in 9th place and finished in the same position after these results. Had taken over the club after the club had been eliminated out of both cups. 2016 Season: A slight improvement for this season as we finished in 8th place having made a number of signings that were mostly cover rather than first team quality and crashed out of both cups fairly early. 2017 Season: Having made a number of signings (probably far too many considering a number were sent on language courses to learn Icelandic), we finished top of the second tier having won the league with a couple of games to play. Also made the Icelandic cup final where we lost 1-0 to Stjarnan and the quarter-finals of the Icelandic Upper Cup. Since ending that season, we received the news that the club would also be moving into a new stadium in a couple of years time.
darren1983
Season 2033/34 AC Milan League - tougher battle than it looks on paper, we lost our 5th game of the season and then went unbeaten for the rest. Juventus were just as good for the most part, in fact we won every game for 3 straight months in October, November and December and were still 2nd. Came down to our home game with Juventus with 7 games left, we won and they fell apart losing 3 and drawing 1 of their next 5 to hand us the league. Champions League - another tough group (last year had Liverpool & and Barcelona, this year Arsenal and Real) but we actually won the group setting up an game with Valencia, we didn't turn up away from home and the 1-0 home win wasn't enough, I continue to struggle in this comp. Coppa Italia - Juventus in the 1/4 finals was tough but that aside was an easy walk to a double Transfers - I don't often show these because this far in the game no one will know who anyone is but this was a great window for us, 5 of the signings were for the future of the club but the main one was Falcao. Steve Cobble
It's been a busy 3 seasons since my last update, as I took over Wolves after Xmas in 14th and guided them to 7th place; the Premiership has in recent years been turned on its head with Leicester taken over by a tycoon and battling for honours each year across the board, and Wolves had recently been taken over by a tycoon too so Is aw this as a great project to get my teeth into, after spending some seasons jumping between jobs. My first full season went magnificently, as my new Brazilian striker tore apart the league in his first full season with 28 goals, and we won the league deservedly! We lost in the Europa League final, and the semi-final of the FA Cup, but I wasn't worried as I planned on defending my crown and adding the FA Cup alongside a Champions League challenge... Unfortunately, things didn't quite go to plan, and I finished the season in 6th (a point off 4th) and having to go to a board meeting to save my job! We just couldn't get nay kind of form going, and Zico, the aforementioned Brazilian striker, only had 11 goals by the end of the season. This signalled a summer of change required, and I'm rebuilding my squad to make an assault across the board on all trophies, and then hopefully the Champions League - I'm really enjoying being at a club longer term again after 7 seasons of a new club each summer. With the USA (waiting for the Gold Cup at the end of this coming season), I lost in the final of the Nations League, and got knocked out of the World Cup in the Qtr Final by England. 23/33, with 10 cups left to go.... We're pretty laid back about your playing the game however floats your boat, but the whole point of this challenge is that you might fail, in either big or small ways. FM Touch Instructions To do this challenge on Touch (FM18) you will need to unlock national management before you start this game. You can do this either by having unlocked it in a previous save and then restarting, or by purchasing it. If you don't do this, you will never be able to manage an international team, which would make the challenge impossible. You could also unlock / purchase the attribute masking before starting, but this is discretionary. All other unlockables in FM18 Touch are strictly banned so if you have unlocked any, please ensure that they are not activated at the start of the game. I think you need to remove league and nation restrictions at the start of the game so that you can add and remove leagues throughout the game. ssestig
Onto the 2018 season where it was our first season in the top flight and the Icelandic Liverpool (having not won it since 1990) only did it at the first attempt, earning me the Manager of the Year trophy in the process. Here are the results that made it possible. It wasn't the only trophy that we won as we also picked up the Upper League Cup which is played before the league season starts so I'm not sure on whether to count it or not (think I should seeing as the minutes played are counted as competitive minutes in the minutes total). Despite this, I've signed a new 12-month extension to my deal ahead of my first shot at Champions League football but might stay on for the rest of the season depending on how we do in the Icelandic Cup. I've also took over the Nigerian job, where we qualified for the ACoN easily but were poor as we went out in the group stage (although we had both Cameroon and Tunisia in our group). Like the Fram job, I have remained manager there for now. Club: 1/10 top domestic leagues (2018 Iceland) 1/10 domestic cups (2018 Iceland Upper League Cup) 0/5 club continental championships 0/1 club world championship International: 0/5 continental tournaments 0/2 world tournaments

I've also took over the Nigerian job, where we qualified for the ACoN easily but were poor as we went out in the group stage (although we had both Cameroon and Tunisia in our group). Like the Fram job, I have remained manager there for now. Club: 1/10 top domestic leagues (2018 Iceland) 1/10 domestic cups (2018 Iceland Upper League Cup) 0/5 club continental championships 0/1 club world championship International: 0/5 continental tournaments 0/2 world tournaments I think this cup would indeed count. It has all the top division sides in it, doesn't it? That's the rule, (apart from the nations that are an exception to this as detailed at the start of the thread). Crispypaul
EnglandWorld Cup 2030 Sorry been a while since I have posted - anyway here is the update for the 2030 World Cup Group Stages - Fixtures - Tree First was a straightforward group containing Australia and Senegal, which we won comfortably (very comfortably for Senegal!) Next up was Morocco in the first knockout stage - this surprisingly lead to penalties which we did win on thankfully. Ghana were beat 2-0 in the next knockout stage, then it became harder with France in the quarters however we ran out 3-0 winners. It took an extra time penalty from Marcus Rashford to sneak past Colombia in the semi-finals. So we faced hosts Italy in the final...and blew it...losing 3-1. I resigned after as I didn't think we'd be able to go any further. Not long afterwards I got another international job - this time with Brazil. No competitive fixtures until the 2032 Copa America but I can see the quality is considerably higher than that from England.
Skogmus
2042/43 –Paris Saint-Germain Manager Profile – Fixtures 1 – Fixtures 2 – Fixtures 3Competitions – Player Stats – Transfers Finally had time to get through a new season, and after leaving the post at Man. City I was hired at PSG. In other words, I'm back in France to get the league, which I couldn't get while I was at Bordeaux. I've seen better years at Man.City than I got from this year, but I wouldn't complain on the outcome. Ligue 1 Conforama: The primary goal this season was winning the league to finish off France football from the challenge. A relatively close run in the league with Toulouse, which followed us almost all the way, but in the end we won it by 5 points. Could've easily lost it in the end if Toulouse also didn't fell apart the last few games.French Cup: Short run, knocked out in the 10th round against OCG Nice.Coupe de la Ligue: Knocked out in quarter finals against AS Monaco. Not able to win the trophy I won with Bordeaux a few seasons ago.Champions League: Crazy tough group, going up against Dortmund, Sevilla and Anderlecht. Stumbled through on 2nd place, after starting with a record of 1-0-2 from the first 3 games. Barely took down Inter and Everton on the way to the semi-finals, before we took down Bayern in the semis. Chelsea waited in the final, which we lost 2-3 after extra time. Club World Championship: Won for second time, no problems winning it when we were qualified.European Super Cup: Beat Liverpool 3-2 after giving the lead away twice in the game. Good first match in the new club for me. Ligue 1 is now part of my trophy cabinet, and I have resigned my post. Going back to Germany next, hoping to win the German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich. Also in the midst of euro qualification with Spain now, finishing 4th in this years nations league. Crispypaul
Crispypaul Tottenham Hotspur English Premier League 2030/31 League - Table - Fixtures 1 - Fixtures 2 - we retained the title, more emphatically than last season FA Cup - Fixtures - no troubles this time as we overcame Liverpool in the final to get our first FA Cup since 1991 EFL Cup - Fixtures - we retained the League Cup with a win over Man Utd in the final Champions League - Group Stage - Fixtures - Monaco, Milan and Guimares were overcome in the group stages fairly comfortably (a 8-0 win over the latter!). Next up Dortmund in the Round of 16 whom we just sneaked past. Man City were up in the quarters, nutty 3-3 draw away then we put 7 past them in the home leg. RB Leipzig next whom were smashed a ludicrous 9-4 in the first leg. In the final we beat Barcelona to lift the Champions League. Finances - minted Transfers - Squad - not quite as much turnover as previously but still a few changes. I re-signed Dele Alli for the season. Key players - Branko Strunjasevic - signed the Serbian striker on a free from Partizan Belgrade and he had a fantastic debut season Aser - solid again from the right back Will Keen - youth product striker had a breakthrough season for club and country Ivan Brcic - wonderful again from the left winger Taulant Kabashi - Italian CM signed in the summer proved a top notch acquisition Luis Paixao - another good season on the flank from the winger Future - although I have won everything in England plus the CL there are no decent jobs in the Italian, French or Spanish leagues or in South America so I am staying until after the Club World Cup in December then will resign. If you want to play ultra-realistic as much as possible I guess you would start in (say) the Conference South in England and work up from that. I have quite a good PC so loaded up (if I recall) the main 5 European leagues plus a handful of others for game depth, the Mexican league as I didn't want anything to do with the MLS, South Africa as the only African league, a couple of Asian leagues (Singapore, Korea, China, Australia) and some South American leagues (Argentina, Chile). Obviously if you have a low rep league you've a better chance of getting an early league title or cup which certainly helps with reputation.

I'm not sure that getting any job at the start of the game is 'realistic'. Each year the first job seems to be a bit harder to get. I was the second to start the challenge, and got a job with a top division Chinese side. That's not possible anymore. Besides I quit that job almost straight away. It was Mission Impossible. The worst club I've ever accepted a job at. What @Crispypaul says about getting a job in a really low rep league, so that you can quickly get a league or cup landmark, may be true, but it has a drawback. I don't think it actually does that much for your reputation, especially if you quit after winning things in the first season. It seems as though people are then only able to get jobs worse than the 'first jobs' they could get at the start of the game. Also, 10 league titles seems like you have a lot of choice, but 5 European and 1 South African leagues are obligatory. Add in your Asian, North and South American jobs, if you're lucky and win all those leagues, you only have 1 more free choice league. Anyway, these challenges all have an inherent unreality about them. Nothing about the career path you have to take is realistic. hessemte
After a poor attempt 2 years ago, and as I don't expect to get FM20 soon, I'm on board again. Nationality randomly set to Hungarian. hessemte
Season 2019 I was maybe too optimistic in my intro post. First, the finances. They were awful when I first came in charge. Something like €750k deficit, with €50k/month spent on wage while our budget was around 40k. I immediately ended a loan for a player earning €11k/month. I didn't even check how good (or bad) he is. I had to sell our biggest wages and some guys with some value for around €300k. I also managed to get loanees from D1 sides without any fees and not paying their wages. I made three others transfers, two freebies and the last one for .... €2,5k. I finally reduced our spendings to €30k ish per month. Then the squad, maybe not as good as I expected (but I have to consider that I sold 3 or 4 starters). The most funny thing is that my best player, an U20 Venezula striker, is on loan at Colo Colo (D1) .... And I obviously cannot termintate it. Seriously ? WTF. It was interesting to notice that there is an optional future transfer fee for €1,7M, but no one in the world would spend so much money on him. So the squad is pretty average, but almost all other teams are average too. But there is a lack of depth, so each time we get an injured player, it was panic on board. Our youngsters are pretty rubbish. Cherry on the cake, the team cohesion was trash because of their results last season, and managerial support was even worst, they absolutely didn't respect me. So the first half ot the season wasn't great but not that bad. We were 8th with 18 points after 15 games, just 4 points away from the 6th (the champion is promoted, while #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 qualifiy to play-offs) but only 3 points ahead the 16th. The weirdest thing was our home record, 0 win, and in the same time we were unbeaten away. Second half was far better, as the atmosphere at the club improved. 28 points (46 overall) with 13pts on our 5 last home (and we finally lost some games away). We came back in the PO race, but we totally choke with only 8 points in the last 5 games. But we made it. Cheers to Copiapo who lost the last game, home, against Nublense, and to Barnechea who couldn't do better than 3-3 at Deporte Temuco. Quarter final, against #3 U.La Calera, first leg home. We smashed them 4-0, and almost blew it on the second leg. I made a large rotation with the semis in mind, and we lost 3-0. Semis, against #4, Cobrolea, first leg home again. 3-1, but this time , no roation for the second leg. But this time, we were awful, another 3-0 defeat, with huge mistake from our GK on the second goal and our strikers were pretty clumsy tonight. Cobrolea won the final against Rangers de Talca (4-2 Overall) and will play in D1 next year. It's quite frustrating even if I can't really say we deserved this spot. For the next season, I'll stay at La Serena, but I'm unsure about my plans, We made a €500k profit this year, so finances are still an issue at the moment (the board even declined to pay for coaching course) and here, the contracts are quite a mess : I can't offer 3 years contracts (except on some youngsters) . I have more than 10 players who see their contracts expiring next month and I don't really plan to make them an offer, I may have to sell 2 or 3 of my best players as they are now 31/32 yo and I m quite sure I can find same quality for free. I have to take some decisions for Danny Perez (the guy on loan at Colo Colo, he made 20 apps with 8 goals with their reserve, but started some games in Copa Libertadores). The only thing I know is that money shouldn't be an issue next year and I may have to work with whole new squad. Off season will be very busy. Ronaldo Beckham
Small Update I feel like this game is unrealistic, so basically I took over the Nigeria Under 23's middle of the 2nd season, I won the Under 23's African Cup Of Nations, I then apply for the Montenegro job and get it. This is baring in mind I am only in my 2nd season and also only managed 2 teams, granted I am top of the Vanarama National League South but there is no way I should be getting jobs like the Montenegro job, part of me didn't want to take it as well. I did set it up properly @vikeologist didn't I, you saw my profile. I mean my reputation is boosted to 25% after I won the Under 23's African Cup Of Nations but still very unrealistic. Ronaldo Beckham
Small Update I wont be doing season to season updates until I am with a decent team doing well in a high rep league. So basically I left Weston-super-Mare as I didn't see the benefits staying there any longer. It took me ages to get a new job but I managed to get a job with Fylde who are currently 23rd in League 2 with half a season to keep them up and push to get into the play offs hopefully. The squad looks decent so far, will see how it goes with them. Doing well with Montenegro, 3 wins and 1 draw in the Nations League, 2 wins over Kosovo and a win over Sweden and also drawing with Sweden so far, also won most of my friendlies. vikeologist
I don't believe there's any need to start a new thread for this challenge. As far as I know, nothing has changed in relation to it. But if anyone spots anything that will require updating the rules at the start, or even starting a new thread, let me know. This is particularly important with the Touch version, which I don't play. I may start a save for this challenge to test drive the new game. vikeologist
Looks like there's a feature where you're advised of 'suitable' job openings, and also looks like it may be harder than ever before to get that first job in this challenge, which will be good news for those who value realism. We may have to start lower down the ladder than ever before. Every year it gets a little harder. Just not sure yet how much harder it's got this time. Ronaldo Beckham
2020-2021 Update Managed to get Fylde from 23rd in the league in December to promoted through the Play Offs, I managed to inspire the team and we went on a really good run. Most of my top performers were players loaned in from other clubs so I will be relying on this for next season as well. I will be applying for higher rep jobs, my aim is to get a Championship team asap.

Could save time. Not for me at the moment though, because it looks like I'll need to start again with lesser divisions. The days of starting in the top Chinese or South African divisions are long gone. I don't include spoilers of what level of jobs are possible to get, but I think it's safe to say that those are not. (They barely were in FM15). So my advice to anyone starting this now. Aim low. Edited October 31, 2019 by vikeologist

I will do my first post soon.

Ronaldo Beckham
@vikeologist you mentioned the feature about getting advised of jobs available, is that when you have a job already, how do you get to see that ?

If you're unemployed, once a week you should get a notification, from somebody. You can't go to it. It sort of comes to you. If it says that there are no suitable jobs, but you know that there is a job vacancy at a club, probably not worth applying for it. Very interested to see what job you get, although of course, you might not take a first job at the highest level possible. Ronaldo Beckham
Yeah I had to start it again as I forgot to add players from certain continents to give me chance of getting a International job somewhere. So started again everything is the same except the player database is slightly bigger. I will post in a bit when I get my first job.

Yes, it's a good idea to add players from Asia, because in past versions, you will never be offered an international job twice, so if you don't win the Asian Cup with S Korea, China or Australia, you can be completely stuffed. It happened to me. I couldn't complete the challenge. Adding players can widen the range of manageable Asian national sides.
Ronaldo Beckham
Yeah I added international players from every continent other then Oceania. The 2 jobs I have been offered are from 2 Irish teams. I am out at the moment so will decide when I get back.
Ronaldo Beckham
Update I took the Cobh Ramblers job who were 9th in the league of 10 teams so weren't doing well, after a bad start I went on a good run and I ended 8th in the league. I am hoping to get a higher position next season and get a better rep job as my rep is only 10% I think it will take a few years just to get a decent job with a lower league English team at this rate. Ronaldo Beckham
Done rubbish with Cobh Ramblers and also it was running too slow for my liking so I am starting again, cut down on the leagues I have loaded to just the UK leagues, I am starting in January as that is when the Irish league starts. I think I might holiday for a month first and then start applying for jobs. Here is my set up.
