Setting up player roles

Recommended Posts

Hi I have a question for other players about how you set up your players in game. For instance I've got a couple defencemen that I'd like to play in a more limited stay at home kind of way. Has anyone had any success playing with the player tactics to accomplish this?

Also I'd like to set some of my forwards up to purely chase the puck and hit whoever has it. I'm also interested in how setting up a player this way affects his match rating. If he is fulfulling the role well but not scoring many points does the game recognise this or will he just get 5s and 6s?

Some players seem to have had success with a defensive play style, but not a lot. There's no specific thread that I'm aware of with specific defensive tips/strategies.....TBLer Batdad is probably the best at defensive play, and he did give out some great practical tips/strategies in recent TBL Challenges (the Flyers/Canucks Challenges), but you'd have to browse through the threads (or his posts)

EHM's rating has always seemed to favour the offensive player, and while improved from EHM07 this still seems to be the case.

I suspect in general overall results will override "fulfilling his role" (I'm thinking a forward who's doing a good job chasing the puck/hitting but is getting scored on all the time, that forward won't have a good rating because of fulfilling a role, they'll have a bad rating because of all the goals going in.....and the reverse would also be true I think, not getting to the puck/not getting hits probably wouldn't hurt a player much if their line was consistently outscoring the opposition). I don't "know" this as a fact! But given that EHM doesn't seem to value the defensive play as much as offensive play, and defensive play is harder to quantify/rate, this is what I think is happening
