Congratultions to...well...no-one. That's right - nobody guessed that I would be heading to York City.

The summer started more or less as I expected. Yenisey's boss got sacked as a result of getting them relegated to the Russian 1st Division, so I resigned from Wolfsburg safe in the knowledge that I would be getting my 'Y' job. But then this happened...

I couldn't believe it. Yenisey were laughing me off?! It was a disaster. I was now unemployed and possibly facing a spell on the sidelines for the indefinite future. But then I noticed that there was actually a 'Y' job available. York City had also been relegated - in their case to League 2. It seemed quite depressing to have to head down to the lowly depths of League 2 for work, but since I've not managed there in this save and had little else choice I had to go for it. I applied for the York City job and waited for their contract.

Then this happened...

I couldn't believe it. Just a week ago they'd publicly laughed at me, but now Yenisey were trying to hire me! I took the interview and gave them probably the most intentionally confrontational interview possible. I thought if they still want to hire me after me being a dick to them then I'd consider them.

They did. But despite their decent transfer and wage budget, when you actually look at what they were paying me personally, they actually only offered for £600 a week more than York City were, which is pretty bad really. I was still tempted by Yenisey as I had been expecting to manage them for so long, but their Chairman had annoyed me loads by his public dismissal of me.

Then this happened...

Kabongo took charge of Oxford, also of League 2.

It was written in the stars. I couldn't possibly turn down York City now. For the first time ever we will see...

Hart VS Kabongo!

Interesting but I missed the back story on Kabongo, was he a former player of yours?

Completing the full alphabet is now looking possible in the near future, what happens when you get to Z, career over? I must say it's a bit of a weird way to play the game, manager bounces between world class teams and League 2 teams seemingly at random. :D

Yeah he was my star striker in my one season at Man United, he was a pretty mental player and produced Messi/Ronaldo form for me that season whilst winning World Player of the Year - pretty bad we didn't win the Champions League or that I didn't stay there longer.

I'm not sure yet, I will see what happens at my 'Z' club and how long that takes to come about. But at the moment my intention is to retire on my 26th and 'Z' which seems fitting.

Season 47:  (X)anthi

I went into the season with the aim of winning the Greek Super League and I did just that - so it's a successful season in my book. I would've liked to do the double, as well as do more in Europe, but ultimately we did our best in both of those competitions and it wasn't enough. We were hard done by with a very difficult group in Europe, but we should really have won the Greek Cup.

Squad part 1pt 2

GK - Krisztian Fejes is a decent young Hungarian keeper. He's not amazing but could well go on to be a top quality keeper, at the very least he was good enough for us to win the league this season.

DR - Ralf Evers was our first choice RB and the experienced German put in a number of good performances this season.

DL - We had another German on the left, with Raffael Ott having a slightly less impressive but still decent season on the opposite side of defence.

DC - We had a good CB pairing in Elia Di Girolamo and Noah Thomas. The Italian was the slight better player, but they formed a respectable unit which bailed us out in games where we were under a lot of pressure.

DM - Rene Kramer was an inspired buy and the Dutch defensive midfielder was very tidy player, he quietly went about his business which allowed the attacking players to get to work.

MC - Ivan Rodriguez was a decent enough CM, with the Spanish player occasionally popping up with the odd goal.

AMR - Rene Engels was a bargain at £2M and the experienced German dominated the Greek league this season, with 14 assists and 6 goals.

AML - Zidane had a lot to live up to when he was signed, with a name like that you have to perform. He did well and was one of our better players, with 14 assists and 13 goals from the wing.

CAM - Kevin Leduc was another impressive performer, with the 26 year old Frenchman contributing 13 goals and 10 assists.

ST - It was Toma Zivkov who was our best player though. The 26 year old Serbian cost us £5M so he had to deliver, he certainly did, with 21 goals and 9 assists throughout the season to help us win the title.

I've won the League Cup 3 times in my career, but I'm not going to be getting a 4th at York. We went out in the 1st Round to Leeds on penalties - I hadn't expected to beat Leeds as they're a Championship side, but it was annoying to take them to extra-times only to lose out on penalties.

We might be out of the League Cup but we went through in the JPT Trophy, with a 2-0 victory away at Doncaster, courtesy of a second half brace from Adriel Osho.

It has been a disastrous start to the season in the league. We've played 5 and haven't won a single game yet, although 3 of our games have been tricky away matches. We have picked up 3 points, with draws against Bristol City (thanks to a late equaliser), Mansfield and Kabongo's Oxford. I was convinced the Oxford match would finish 3-2 and I'd lose to a side managed by Kabongo in the ultimate embarrassment, but Wayne Forster's late penalty saved me from that.

It's not looking too pretty in the league though as we find ourselves as low as 20th. Meanwhile, Kabongo and Oxford are flying high in 3rd.

September

The JPT cup win appears to have been a bit of a catalyst of success as since then we've won 3 games and been unbeaten in the league. We've probably been helped by an easier run and a few players coming back from pre-season niggles, but it's certainly looking a lot better. Adriel Osho seems to be the real key to success, if he's playing well and scoring we have a real chance to win the games.

We're now up to a slightly more respectable 12th place, with Kabongo's Oxford side now down to 7th.

A fantastic win at Forest puts us through to the North Quarter Final of the JPT.

I thought we'd turned a corner with a great September, but we've gone back to real inconsistency and poor performances once again. We did only lose 1 match this month, but we also only won one match - that match at home to Grimsby really was a fluke victory with Osho's last gasp winner giving us 3 points we probably didn't deserve.

We're down to a disappointing 16th. Kabongo's Oxford have moved up to 6th.

A 3-1 win against non-league Redditch sees us progress to the 2nd Round of the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, we're through to the North Semi Final of the JPT after 2-0 win against a good side in Preston.

A better month in the league, with 2 wins from 3.

We're up to a healthier position now in 9th, with just 2 points between us and the playoffs. It's Kabongo and Oxford who are side currently bottom of the playoff places.

Well I was going to say you've been making a remarkable turnaround with York since your arrival, but then notice that's quite a tight league. 12 points from 1st to 16th after half a season. :D So a couple of wins and you might just go from like 16th to 3rd.

We unfortunately won't make the 3rd Round of the FA Cup as we've been knocked out by League 1 side Bradford.

fef996ba43b5230478ad403468923936.png

We will however be in the North Final of the JPT Trophy after just about scraping past Rochdale on penalties.

4d20c5f803c66e21605a430d6469d545.png

We followed that up with a good away win at Rochdale in the league, with 6 more points from home games with Bristol City and Walsall. We unfortunately ended the year on a bum note with a loss at home to Preston.

We're still in 9th place, but it is still very tight at the top of the table.

We just about managed to get past Notts County on aggregate to make it to Wembley for the JPT Trophy final. I never expected to do that well in this competition so it would be awesome if we could win it. We face Plymouth's Green Army in the final.

baaf9579ba5be09bc0647e0c1fb3b690.png

Not the best of months in the league, with two back to back defeats, including a 3-1 home loss to Kabongo's Oxford.

673fa2bb7fc1fafb36dcfd6289ca417c.png

We're still right on the outskirts of the playoff places though, with just goal difference separating us and Blackpool in 7th. Oxford have climbed into the automatic places, but surely Kabongo won't be able to hang on to that?

Not the worst month possible but it was certainly quite ropey at times. We lost away from home twice and came close to only drawing at Burton and at home to Charlton, but thankfully late goals got us all the points in those.

We're up to 7th and finally in the playoff places which is great. Oxford have predictably slumped to outside of the automatic promotion places.

A better month than the last few, which almost saw us go through it unbeaten if we hadn't lost to Bolton.

5693000207c07bb12e8303923883f26c.png

We're still in 7th place, with it still being a very tight run thing at the top of the table. Oxford have climbed back into the automatic promotion places.

What a night this was. I'd have laughed you out the room if you'd told me a few years back after all of those Champions League finals that I would get that invested in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy final, but my word, this was tense stuff. I thought we'd lost it after we went 2-0 down early in the 2nd half, but Osho's 80th minute strike put us right back into it. I still didn't think we'd take it to extra-time as Plymouth were much the better side as you'd expect from a team in the higher division, but then Kevin Davies (a regen not an 85 year old Kevin Davies) headed home a last gasp equaliser to take it to extra-time. We held on and took the match to penalties which we managed to win. Absolute scenes!

We had an absolutely shocking month. Fair enough we had some tough games but to only win 2 of our last 7 games, with 4 of them being losses, is really not good. Thankfully we managed to scrape 7th place and finish in the Playoffs.

We lost the home leg 2-1 which was a terrible start to things, but we went 2-0 up in the away leg and I thought we were going to pull it off and go through. Kabongo's side got a goal back 10 minutes later and it was then extra-time that was looming, but instead of taking it to extra-time we threw it away and a late equaliser on the night meant Kabongo's men went to Wembley and we were out!

f978bc05b5c611301598eaf5b4479bdd.png

Incredibly, Kabongo did actually manage to win at Wembley, which means his Oxford side have been promoted and will feature in League 1 next season. This represents the first kind of trophy/achievement that Kabongo has pulled off in his 18 year long managerial career.

Congratultions to @Wavelberry and @deltablue who correctly guessed my final club would be Zenit. A special congratulations to Wavelberry, who has won BET-PH71 with a grand total of £355.00 of imaginary money that he may or may not collect. Lenzar finished in 2nd, with Koetzer making off the podium. deltablue managed to bump up to 4th place, with goktugerce in 5th. ExeChris, sjg11, glennuk, jim owen and Dev' o also managed to make the top 10. Well done to LeedsUnitedFan2 who won the Bankrupt table, with Nobby also ending on a reasonable total.

I started the summer, much like most of you, expecting to land the Zwolle job. They'd failed in their promotion bid and promptly sacked their manager, which left a job opening there. I applied for the job as usual and was gearing myself up for a bit of 2nd tier Dutch action, when all of a sudden I got a message in my inbox, informing me that my job application was unsuccessful and they'd hired some no name Dutch bloke. I couldn't believe it. Another season of lingering in League 2 with bloody York awaited me. The joys. But then I saw this in my inbox a few days later...

Low and behold. Despite winning the league and being the best team in Russia, the Zenit boss actually fancied taking a slight step down and moving to Krasnodar instead. A quick research of this regen showed that he'd spend the vast majority of his playing career at Krasnodar and was a put of a favourite there. I couldn't believe my luck. I was paranoid that being a League 2 manager when applying for the Zwolle job had cost me it, so I instantly took the plunge and resigned, with the plan of just holidaying until another Z job came available if this fell through. Luckily it didn't. The Zenit manager left for Krasnodar, I applied for the Zenit job, and BOOM, here we are in Russia.

I was even the bookies favourite for the job. It's like they knew what I had planned all along

Congratulations on the new job :)

Thanks Northernpilgrim, I'm hoping to end my career on a high and win the Russian PL in my first season. They're in the Champions League too, but don't look up to thaaat much, I'd be happy enough if we managed to make it out the CL Group Stages as it looks like we'll be a 3rd seeding team judging by the coefficients. Even being in the Champions League is a welcome change from the JPT Trophy :D
