PaulHartman71
October Alessio Cerci continued his good form in the League Cup as we progressed to the quarter final stage with relative ease against Sunderland. Not a great month really. An impressive 3-1 win away to QPR but dropping points at Bretntford considering we were 2-0 up at half-time is pretty disappointing. A 1-1 at home to Southampton not the worst result but we could do with winning those games at home if we're gonna get in the top 6.
PaulHartman71
November A huge upset saw us smash Chelsea 4-1 at home. Not really sure what happened but they were awful. A bit disappointing to blow a 2-0 lead away to Derby, but we made up for it with a 2-0 win over Swansea. A crash back to reality as we lost 2-0 at Old Trafford. We're in 8th place now with the table looking very tight.
PaulHartman71
December A really disappointing loss. It was a close game at 1-0 in the 80th minute but in the last 10 minutes we messed up pretty badly. A pretty good month. 4 wins 7 games. Our only loss came to my old side, we were actually 3-1 up so I was gutted to blow it and lose 4-3. We then beat Norwich in a really exciting 5-4 - after this game I changed our tactics to be slightly more defensive having shipped 8 goals in 2 games. We managed to avoid defeat against rivals Liverpool thanks to a late Leighton Baines penalty. We're currently on a good run of three 1-0 wins in a row. The league is crazy close at the moment! We're up to 5th but it's at a point where you can drop 3 or 4 places if you slip up.

PaulHartman71
January 3 players left in January. Our first choice DM Muhamed Besic left for Stoke for £20M. I didn't really plan to sell him but he originally wanted to leave when United were interested, I was happy for him to go for £20M, the only team who offered me that were Stoke so I let him go. Mirallas had wanted to leave since September so I also let him go. Robles, a back-up GK, also left after wanting to leave for a while. I signed Mangala who did well for me at Dinamo Moscow. We've not been great defensively and Ba and Jonny Evans as a partnership hasn't been great. I'm hoping Mangala can significantly improve us there. Nani comes in to add more depth at both wing positions, he's had a disappointing time since I left Dortmund, I'm hoping he can recapture his great form for me there here at Everton. Butland came in to replace the departing Robles as back-up GK. A good start to the FA Cup. We comfortably won 4-1 away to Yeovil and then beat Championship side Leicester 2-0 at their place. We've got Brighton or Brentford (I think) in the next round so we should hopefully win that. A decent month saw us narrowly lose away to City. We also dropped points at home to Spurs but we beat Stoke and Ipswich away, Stoke was a tricky game which saw us win thanks to a late Ryan Shawcross own goal. We sit in 5th place with 3rd and 4th not all that far away, although neither is 6th and 7th.
PaulHartman71
February A good victory over Brentford was tarnished by a late injury to Rooney that will see him out for the best part of 3 months. We have Hull or Chelsea in the next round, so probably Chelsea which isn't great. A 100 percent record in the league with exception to the slight slip up at home to Reading. Ross Barkley scored a fine hat-trick against Brentford and the 1-0 away win against Southampton was a great performance. The table is looking very close with 10 games to go. We could very well get top 4 if things go our way, though we do still have Man United, Arsenal (who have been crap this season but did beat us), Chelsea and Liverpool to play. PaulHartman71
March We almost nicked this one but Chelsea had too much late on in the game. I'm not all that confident going to Stamford Bridge after they beat us in the League Cup but I'm hoping we can pull something special off. A disappointing 2-0 loss away to Swansea but tbf once Ross Barkley got sent off after 20 minutes it was always going to be a struggle with ten men. We pulled off a fantastic win against Man United though with Berahino scoring a late winner. We also beat Derby earlier in the month. The table is looking pretty good sat the moment. Tottenham, Man United and Southampton aren't too far behind us, but we have a game in hand on Liverpool and we still have a big game at Anfield against them to come. Chelsea have a load of game in hands which could see them top the table. But it will certainly be an interesting end to the season. I'm hoping we can get top four, it would be a good achievement considering our squad compared to some of the ones above and below us.

PaulHartman71
April A disappointing exit in the FA Cup but Chelsea once again had too much for us at Stamford Bridge. An excellent run in the league. We smashed Norwich 5-1 and then pulled off a huge 4-2 victory at Anfield that saw us 4-0 up at half-time. We also managed to get a point away to Chelsea with Schurrle scoring the equaliser against his old club. We followed that up by beating Villa 3-0. We have Wolves and Hull left which are both winnable games. We could end the season as high as 2nd!
PaulHartman71
May A great end to the season as we beat both Wolves and Hull 3-0. PaulHartman71
Season 6 - (E)verton I think this is my first season without a trophy but I'm still very pleased to have managed to get 2nd place with Everton. I would've been very happy with anywhere in the top 4 really and apart from a few million it doesn't really matter whether we came 2nd, 3rd or 4th as it's not like we challenged for the league anyway - but it's still a decent achievement for a squad that didn't have as much depth as a lot of the rival sides. Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2 Schurrle was the star man with Berahino, Cerci and Barkley all putting in good seasons as well. Mangala was great when he came in at Christmas too. GK - Matthew Ryan was very solid all season. DR - Coleman was a good first choice option. Lowton didn't play a huge amount but he was decent enough when called upon. DL - Baines ended up being first choice over Gibbs as Gibbs put in some bad performances, Baines also has the benefit of being very good at set pieces. DC - Mangala was a great January signing and did well after Christmas. Ba and Jonny Evans were okay but both had a few poor performances. If I stay I'll definitely get someone else in to partner Mangala next season as Evans/Ba won't cut it in the Champions League. DM - Besic was good until Stoke over-paid for him in January. Diego Poyet was more than adequate as second choice and first choice after January - and ended up being a decent signing. James McCarthy didn't play much but was okay when he did. MC - Fellaini was a pretty good first choice without being too amazing. Yaya Toure isn't the same player he once was at 36 but he was a good free signing and put in some decent games. AMR - Cerci ended up being first choice and he was pretty good. Mirallas barely played before leaving in January. Mertens did well when he was occasionally put here. Nani didn't play a huge amount but was decent back-up. AML - Schurrle was a fantastic signing and our best player. Mertens did a decent job at playing here when Schurlle wasn't fit or rested. CAM - Barkley was another great signing and did well. Mertens did a decent job at playing here occasionally. Canales didn't feature too much but did well when he did. ST - Berahino was a good signing and ended the season with 22 goals and 10 assists from 40 games. My main concern about Berahino is that he misses a lot of chances and I'm not sure he's good enough for a Champions League club. Rooney did well up until he got injured, with 9 goals and 4 assists from 24 games with just 11 of them starts. PaulHartman71
France were knocked out in the Second Round of the Euros by Belgium which lead to Claude Puel promptly being sacked. As soon as the Euros were over I was hoping and praying that they'd sack their manager and I might manage to get the job - in-fact, as soon as the Euros were over I was offered the job not just for France but also Italy who had a bad Euros as well. I obviously took the French job straight away and hopefully I can lead them to the next World Cup and bring home the trophy!
PaulHartman71
July/August Pre-Season Despite finishing 2nd and qualifying for the Champions League - I was only given £15M to spend by Everton over the summer. I was massively disappointed by this as I felt we could have got in a few world class players we could have gone for it in all competitions. Instead I had to make do with what I could get on the relative cheap - I also have an issue in the sense that I don't actually have a back-up right back as the chairman tried selling the club during the last week of the window so I didn't get time to pick anyone up. It should be an interesting season! I got in Andreu Fontas from Real Madrid who looks a very good CB and I couldn't turn him down at that price. I also signed my old friend from Borussia Dortmund - Sven Bender. My final signing was also from my old club, but it was actually a player who I don't think ever played for me as he left pretty early into my time at Arsenal - that man was Theo Walcott and I'm hoping he can be a really good player on the wing and possibly up-front if I get desperate. That's what our first choice 11 looks like with Butland, Jonny Evans, Abdoulaye Ba, Bakary Kone, Leighton Baines, James McCarthy, Yaya Toure, Fellaini, Mertens, Canales, Cerci, Nani, and Rooney all also in the squad. I'm not sure we can challenge for the league but I'm hoping we can at least try. We don't have the best of Champions League groups but I'm hoping we can at least finish 2nd in the group to qualify for the knockout stage.
PaulHartman71
August It's been a pretty good start to the season actually. I wanted to sign a world class striker to challenge Berahino as I'm not sure he can do it for a club competing in the Champions League and for the Premier League, but so far he's scored in every game! A nice 1-0 win against Reading, a good 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and then we absolutely smashed my old side Arsenal - they could do with me back really as they're very average now despite still having a strong squad. The table means nothing after 3 games but there it is anyway.
PaulHartman71
August I had my first game for France this month. We didn't have our full strength side but I'll give you an idea of what I plan to do with them - Imagine that team with Lucas Digne at LB, Varane at CB and Kondogbia at DM. We won my first match in charge as we beat Turkey 2-1 away thanks to a brace from Lacazette.

PaulHartman71
September I rested a lot of the side after a hectic few weeks, but we thankfully still just about had enough to beat Stoke in extra time to avoid a penalty shoot-out. We had 10 men for 10 minutes as McCarthy got sent off, but Rooney somehow sneaked a goal in late on to put us through. A mixed start to the life in the Champions League. Our first match was the result of a lifetime - we went to the Nou Camp and put in an unreal performance to win 2-0. We defended well, Barca had many chances but either missed them or they were saved by Matthew Ryan who had a great game. I was pleased with potentially getting a 0-0 draw but then Mertens squared it out to Schurrle who then put in an amazing cross to substitute Cerci who headed home to put us ahead. Just minutes after Barca's kick off we regained possession and a Nani through ball picked out Schurrle who danced into the box and smashed it home to make it 2-0. I went into the Hoffenheim game with some confidence despite some of the players not being 100 percent after the weekend - we ended up losing this one 2-0 which was gutting but it shouldn't affect our chances of going through too much thanks to the Barca win. A mixed month in the Premier League. A disappointing home loss to Chelsea but two utter routs away to West Ham and Aston Villa.

PaulHartman71
October I put out a fairly rotated side against Watford away in the League Cup. It was a risk but it paid off thankfully as we won 2-0. We were back to winning ways in the Champions League as we comfortably beat Basel 4-1 at home. Another mixed month in the league. A decent away win at Brentford and a nice 4-2 win over Stoke. A disappointing home draw to Hull though and a catastrophic loss away to Southampton. We were 3-0 up after 23 minutes so to end up losing it 5-3 was nothing less than a disgrace. Berahino picked up an injury in the middle of month and will probably miss most of November - hopefully Rooney can continue to fill in the void as well as he did against Stoke. PaulHartman71
October I also had a match with France this month. I was nervous to be playing Spain but it turned out I had nothing to worry about! We were 4-0 up at half-time and ended up winning it 5-1 which was amazing really - it is worth noting that Spain had Busquets sent off after just 20 minutes so played most of the match with just 10 men and it showed. PaulHartman71
November We were pretty lucky to get a point in Basel tbf. However we fully deserved our win against Barcelona, who offered very little in my opinion. Apart from the obvious front 3 of Messi, Suarez and Neymar - their actual team seems full of average players that weren't that threatening. I actually checked to see how they'd been doing in La Liga and they've actually won the last 3 quite comfortably, although they are only 6th this season at the moment so maybe they're just having a bad spell. It's been a difficult month in the league. We've got Sven Bender injured which is a huge loss, we also had Fellaini, Coleman, Nani, Walcott and Berahino injured at various times this month which really didn't help things. We were awful at Watford and didn't deserve anything. We weren't thaaat bad at home to City but we were tired by the end of the game and they took advantage of that. We were very fortunate to get anything against Liverpool, we took the lead early but they were all over us for the rest of the game. Coutinho had a world class game and we just couldn't deal with him for either of his goals, he should have had a hat-trick as well so we were very lucky when Mangala scrambled in a goal from a corner late on to steal a point. This sees us down to 8th at the moment which is pretty awful. Barkley's just picked up a 3 month injury as well - the board's decision to not let me really re-inforce over the summer has definitely come back to haunt us now. I feel like if I'd had 30/40M to spend with the CL money we could well have challenged for the league and gone all the way in Europe - but playing midweek CL games against Barcelona, Basel etc is really taking it's toll on us at the weekend after having very few weekday fixtures last season when we reached 2nd.
PaulHartman71
November I also had the final two European Nations League matches this month. We were poor against Turkey but a fantastic free-kick from Clement Grenier gave us all 3 points. We weren't great in Spain and the 3-1 score-line flattered us to be honest. Luckily we didn't need to avoid defeat to go through and we will now play in the Semi Final at some point next year I think.
PaulHartman71
December A good performance away to Southampton sees us through to the League Cup Semi Final where we will play Swansea. I'm very pleased that we've managed to top a pretty difficult group. We will play Palermo in the next round which shows how important it is to get that 1st place as I imagine we could get past them and reach the Quarter Final! An undefeated December for us. 4 wins and 2 draws this month with our only slip ups being away to Spurs and a bore-draw at home to Norwich. The league is very open but we do still have a lot of tricky fixtures to come against sides above us which will decide where we ultimately end up finishing. PaulHartman71
January We got past our feeder club Bournemouth pretty comfortably. We were 2-0 up against United so to end up drawing 2-2 wasn't great. I'm not hugely confident we'll win at Old Trafford in the replay. It was a tight two legged affair against Swansea but a great away performance was ultimately what saw us through. We face Man City in the final. An okay month considering the cup ties we had during the period leaving us a bit screwed due to fitness and injury problems. The loss to United was the main kick in the nuts especially as we went 1-0 up very early on. The point at the Emirates was hard fought and rescued us from losing two on the bounce. Walcott's just been injured so will miss at least a month including the League Cup final - he'll be a big loss.
PaulHartman71
February Despite having no Walcott or Schurlle we managed to come away with the League Cup. A huge victory and it's great to have won a trophy for Everton. We had another two FA Cup games as Leyton Orient took us to a replay like United did in the previous round. To be honest we played crap against them in both games and only got to extra-time thanks to a Baines penalty. We ended up winning 13-12 on penalties to progress. We have Norwich in the next round. A very tight away win but an away Champions League knockout win nonetheless. 3 away goals should give us a lot to build on in the home leg next month. We only had two PL games this month and they were both very comfortable 4-1 routs - Berahino managed all 4 against Brentford! The table still isn't looking that great to be honest. PaulHartman71
March Yet again our FA Cup tie went to a replay - we very actually quite fortunate in the original tie as we were 3-2 down after being 2-0 up until Sergio Canales scored a late equaliser. We were 3-0 up in the replay until Norwich pegged back all the way to 3-3, I though the momentum was gone and we were out for sure - but Theo Walcott popped up with the winner. We've got a huge Semi Final at Goodison Park with our old friends at Liverpool. We won 2-0 at home to get past Palermo 4-2 on aggregate. We've got a great Quarter Final draw as we play PSV - let's home we don't blow it as getting to the Semi Final would be the furthest I've got in the Champions League in my career so far! 3 wins from 3 in the league which all started thanks to a very late Diego Poyet winner at home to Southampton. The table shouldn't look too bad if we win our games in hand but we do have a very tricky run coming up in April...
PaulHartman71
April A massive game against our biggest rivals. It was tough but we got past Liverpool to secure another Wembley final. We will face Man City one again in the final. We got past PSV 4-2 on aggregate - it was looking tight after the first leg but we went 3-0 up within 20 minutes of the second leg and we were comfortable from then on. We've now got a massive Semi Final with our friends from the Group Stage - Barcelona. We beat them twice in the Group Stage but can we beat them twice when it really matters?! This is the price you pay for cup runs and not giving your manager money to have a squad with depth. Just 1 win from 5 games this month, with 3 losses against City, Spurs and West Brom. There is still time to sneak a top 4 spot.
PaulHartman71
May A pretty poor month in the league as we lost the all amount Merseyside Derby that essentially decided 4th place. We lost to Norwich as well but after losing to Liverpool that game was more or less meaningless anyway. The table was so tight that we went from blowing finishing 4th to ending up 7th. I can't help but wonder what could have been if they'd given me the money to strengthen the squad more - especially since that money was there and is still sitting in our bank account now. The board actually went mental when it was confirmed we were 7th and were threatening to sack me on the spot at one point - I found this pretty outrageous considering I think it's their fault for not giving me the money to compete at the top level. Despite the odds stacked against me I've still reached both domestic cup finals and gone an a fantastic Champions League run - a competition we were lucky to qualify for in the first place!! We took the lead against City but we ultimately didn't have enough for them in this final. An unbelievable set of ties in the Champions League which first saw us put 6 past Barca at Goodison Park with Saido Berahino grabbing a hat-trick. I said from the start of the season I wasn't sure Berahino was good enough at the top level but he certainly proved me wrong in this match. We lost in Barcelona but thankfully we still went through 8-6 on aggregate. It's been an amazing run in the CL which has seen us beat Barcelona 3 times this season. How many managers can say they've beaten Barcelona 3 times in their career, let alone in a season? We face the almighty Real Madrid in the final. PaulHartman71
June A pretty gutting end to the season. We'd done brilliantly to get to the final itself and it would have been great to win it - but ultimately Real Madrid were just too good for us. We actually lost to goals from two my former players - Odegaard and Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Ronaldo finishing us off with a 3rd late on. I was actually receiving messages that indicated Everton would sack me if I didn't win this match (after getting them to their first ever CL final ffs ) but I haven't been sacked despite the loss. I am however very inclined to leave more out of principle than anything else!
PaulHartman71
Season 7 - (E)verton I think this is my first season without a trophy but I'm still very pleased to have managed to get 2nd place with Everton. Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2 Schurlle, Berahino and Walcott were the standout performers. GK - Matthew Ryan was solid all season again. DR - Coleman was a good first choice option. I wasn't given money to get in another RB so I had to convert Jonny Evans as a makeshift RB. DL - Gibbs was first choice for a lot of the season but Baines fought back and regained his spot nearer the end of the season. DC - Mangala and Evans were an okay partnership. Ba was okay until I got rid of him in January - I hope to get a replacement with the £5M I got for selling him but they wouldn't let me. Fontas also featured a fair bit. DM - Bender was very good. He got injured a bit so Poyet and McCarthy ended up here on occasion. MC - Poyet had a good season at CM. McCarthy, Fellaini and Canales also featured here at various points. AMR - Walcott was a great signing and did very well on the right. Mertens, Nani and Cerci featured here every now and then. AML - Schurrle was great once again. Mertens was his primary back-up with Nani also featuring here occasionally. CAM - Barkley had another solid year. He got injured a fair bit though and Canales played more than I would have liked but he was alright. ST - Berahino did well. 34 goals from 58 games for him - he scored some goals in some big matches including his hat-trick in the CL Semi against Barcelona. Rooney wasn't really good enough to compete with him but I wasn't allowed to get anyone else in. I will give you guys a slight helper this time by letting you know that I have most definitely left Everton. The board have pissed me off massively this season so despite enjoying my time at the club I am very much looking forward to leaving them behind and starting fresh somewhere else! Kalemlyco
Can't see a drop to Gillingham and I think Go Ahead Eagles would be a interesting Dutch save. Can't see you move to Gil Vicente I'm assuming Genoa have retained Serie A status £1 on Genoa please!
deltablue
Here we are again. I will give you guys a slight helper this time by letting you know that I have most definitely left Everton. The board have pissed me off massively this season so despite enjoying my time at the club I am very much looking forward to leaving them behind and starting fresh somewhere else! Thank goodness for that! Not knowing whether you've been moving on from club or country has complicated everything considerably (as has not knowing any information about how the options are doing, so that would be great as well). Torn between Genoa and Getafe so I'll have to get back to you on that one.
Wavelberry
£2 on Genoa
deltablue
I'm still unsure but I'll stick my neck out and say Getafe for 50p, not much of a risk if I'm wrong but still a few quid if I'm right.
apchivers
Good work with Everton. Think I'll go £4 on Getafe
