Great to beat a Sunderland team that just wanted to time waste, really hope they go down this year. Also, probably the last time I'll get to see John O'Shea on a football pitch :thdn:.

We really needed that goal before half time, so important to go in at half time winning, then the goal straight after half time killed the game off. TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

When Pantilimon came out and caught the ball outside of his box, why wasn't he booked? The only thing I can imagine is that the referee was worried about the prospect of having to send him off for time wasting later on in the game, which is truly awful refereeing. And as we all knew would be the case, after that incident he wasted loads of time before we got the goal. I hate when referees make decisions like that, a yellow is a yellow, regardless of the circumstances (see Demichelis v Spurs too).

I'm pretty certain he wouldn't have been thinking about possible time-wasting later on, think that is reading far too much in to it. Think he just felt it wasn't intentional and was being lenient as it was fairly early on.

I'm not sure on the rules but personally feel it probably should have been a booking, fwiw, intentional or not. Personally I feel he must also have known it was outside when he caught it.

But he had already been time wasting before that? He was time wasting from the first minute so the referee must have had the booking in the back of his mind, he'd told him to hurry up a couple of times before the handball.

I agree that in that scenario it's a booking, intentional or not.

'Preventing the opposition take possession' is the exact phrasing, apologies. Which obviously he was trying to do in the wider context that nobody wants to gift the opposition possession, but he wasn't trying to do so in an unsporting fashion within the context of the offence if you take it at face value that he believed he was in the area. 'Unsporting behaviour' is the cautionable offence; verging on thoughtcrime for the ref to book him for the incident in question regardless of any deeper suspicions on our part.

I was a little surprised because it looked like they kind of panicked and he grabbed the ball outside the lines. Not a big deal though. Worse that he didn't get a yellow throughout the game for probably wasting 10 minutes singlehandedly.

Hadn't quite realised, but boy do we have some matches coming up.

30.09 Wolfsburg (H)

04.10 Arsenal (A)

17.10 Everton (A)

21.10 CSKA Moscow (A)

25.10 Man City (H)

Some crucial games coming up in there, broken up by probably some international matches injuries (Smalling? *gulp*)

Pretty sure not every hand ball is a yellow. So wasn't surprised Pantilimon wasn't booked.

You're right, a handball isn't a caution-able offence outside of two qualifiers: a) the player attempts to score from one and/or b) the player deliberately attempted to deny the opposition the ball by deliberately handballing it.

Any other case is simply a freekick.

It will be interesting to see how we do. I thought we did very well against the bigger sides last season, so that may continue this season.

I'd even mention the match after City which is Palace away. Will probably be the toughest away match at Palace we'll have had so far.

October certainly going to be a tough month. Feel we must win on Wednesday against Wolfsburg or we'll really be making things difficult for ourselves in the CL.

Shame. Just have the stats to judge on, but based on that 1-1 is probably a fair enough result. Our youth teams always are a bit odd, with players out of position and few people in some positions in the squad. Seems to be like that every year, so maybe it's a conscious decision. Fosu-Mensah has played wing lately for instance, which is a bit odd, given he's a mix of a CM and CB. I suspect the coaches want to further improve his on the ball skills, but in my mind it would be better to start specialising in a position when you get to 16-18.

It's more right of a 3 in the middle, Dearnley is usually out on the right wing. I know that he played AM in pre-season whilst they were bedding him in. All comes down to not having enough players for the two teams though. This year's U18 intake was quite small and we've been rejecting loans for the U21s because the squad is too small

U19s and U20s England squads announced and as per usual, not a United player to be seen. Can't believe players like Harrop, Williams, Tuanzebe, Rashford, Pearson, Rothwell, Goss, Gribbin and Dearnley aren't getting a look-in. Only player we have in a youth squad is Angel Gomes in the U16s.

Daily reminder that decent as Blind may be, he's never, ever an actual CB

Not seen a proper replay, but I suppose he was the guy that doubled up on the run then. Always trouble when you have two guys following the same bloke. Could just see the deeper Wolfsburg players busting a lung to get forward when that happened. Chain reaction and Valencia's brainfart, and bam, 0-1. Terrible start. Hope we get back and win, because we really need to win this match /owen

He sort of, kinda, partially, maybe followed the ball out wide then sort of, kinda, partially, maybe just did **** all. Not blaming the goal on him but a proper CB on that side and I don't think we concede

Flag was because he was offside. Pretty simple, this football thing, really

That was the 2nd instance I assume, as he was offside there. Earlier he was onside but was still flagged. Not easy to catch these very close decisions though tbf.

We created surprisingly many big chances, and should have scored more than the one goal.

Memphis had 2 big ones

Rooney skying it

Dante clearing Mata's goal

Martial clean through but wrongfully called offside

Probably more I forget

Horrible start with the oaf defending on 0-1 but overall we were the dominant side and should have scored a goal or two more. Hopefully we score a few more in the 2nd half and get the three points. With CSKA dicking PSV hard in the other match, every team will be on 3 points if that happens.
