Manchester United Thread 2015/16

What a monumental ****-up by the club. I came away from the game yesterday complimenting how the club/security had dealt with the situation. But now it's turned in to an absolute shambles.

How the **** do you forget to collect a fake bomb you'd used in a training exercise?! Surely you sign the fake bombs out and then sign them all back in when the training had finished. Then, it had been in place since Wednesday and nobody from the club has found it in that time?! What do they do on their pre game checks?!

It's ****ing embarrassing.

On the way out during the evacuation there were the usual idiots moaning & wanting refunds etc. Then one guy pipes up who bad flown all the way from South Africa for the game which kind of put it in perspective a bit.

Went in the Trafford pub to meet mates & have a few beers & there was an American in there who had come all the way from Georgia to watch the game.

Eventually made out way back into town & went in the weatherspoons at Piccadilly where a girl came over to us after half an hour or so asking if we knew when it would be replayed. She & her fella had come all the way from Serbia.

The Bournemouth fans think they've had it bad for travel :D

Surely it's more likely to be the external security people that are at fault rather than the club?

As has been said, it was found in a toilet cubicle, not sure why they'd need to check a toilet cubicle multiple times between games?

Nice touch to refund fans and give them free entry to the game on Tuesday.

Kind of think they didn't have a choice to be fair :D

Theres an article on the Daily Mirror website about a guy who came over from Sierra Leone for the first time, MUST have paid for his flight to be changed and got him a ticket for the FA Cup Final.

Reckon the club ought to do everything they can to help those that traveled that don't do it regularly to be able to attend either one of these games or a big game next season.

Toilets aren't even cleaned between games?

Appalling

Well, one would assume the toilets were cleaned prior to the last game and wouldn't need to be done multiple times? and as the last game was before Wednesday, then there'd be no real need to check it beyond the usual security sweeps, which seems to be what actually happened?

Yeh, cleaning the toilets between Wednesday and Sunday seems pretty silly when all the stadium has been used by is a third party provider... HOWEVER, you would expect every room that that provider entered to be cleaned? That's just standard procedure for any conference / events business. My wife (who works in conference and events) said that the checklist of things to happen for an event always ends in having to inform the cleaners of any special cleaning requirements.

The **** up by the external company is massive and is clearly the cause of this. There has been a small **** up at the club as well but by no means are the club, or even the people that booked the external company, to blame for any of this.

Oh yeah the biggest ****-up is from the external party that planted the bomb there for testing. They must be a **** company.

But I would expect every room/area to be checked before a game, who's to say someone working at the stadium hadn't planted something?

So if I want plant a bomb it's best to do between games as nobody will bother checking... cleaner/stadium tour and bobs your uncke

You think people are checking toilet stalls everyday? Apart from cleaners going in I would be surprised if they are routinely checked.

The device was most likely hidden as well, as it was for sniffer dogs to find, and was just lucky someone noticed it. It wasn't in plain sight with a big neon sign pointing at it

should have given the bournemouth fans free tickets and travel to the game at OT next year imo, but refund AND free tickets is a nice gesture too

That's not true is it? It was just taped to a gas pipe with wires hanging from it, wasn't it? A member of staff found it. I believe the sniffer dogs were there to check if there was anything else.

I'm pretty sure there were no neon signs harry ;)

Heard it was sniffer dogs training, but could be wrong. But just because it was a gas pipe doesn't mean it was visible to everyone.

And as I said, if someone is going in to check the toilets before, after or inbetween games, they are going in to check for mess etc not things stuck to walls

That and it costs a fortune to hire enough people to sweep OT on the days where there is no game. Sometimes you just have to accept practicality with these things.

You can't expect the stadium to be swept pre-match day. However, surely it should be swept several hours prior to kick off. Should have been located and dealt with quietly by lunch time IMO, not located 20 minutes before the match was due to start, with fans already inside the stadium.

Albeit a private company have obviously left the device, Manchester United have to take a large amount of accountability for the above reasons. Absolutely no way IMO should fans have already been inside the stadium by the time the device was found.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: “The safety of the fans is our number one aim at every event we host at Old Trafford. Overall, I'm proud of how our staff responded.

The facts are:

• On the discovery of a suspect package, the police and the club worked quickly and closely to identify the threat, make people safe and evacuate the ground calmly and efficiently.

• Fans of both clubs behaved impeccably and the evacuation – the first of its type in the UK – was a complete success.

• Following investigation, the device proved to have been left in error following the training of dog handlers by a sub contractor.

• The contractor had signed the device as having been recovered along with the 13 other devices at the end of the exercise.

• That device could not have been detected by sniffer dogs on the routine matchday search of the 100 Club, as it contained no explosives and was used in an exercise training handlers not dogs.

So do you think we're going to go out with a youth team tomorrow or does LvG really want that 5th place to help keep him in a job?

I'm not sure they'd have gotten it into the players carpark!

Wandered in there while worse for wear before the Bilbao game the other year. Might have just been because it was Europa but nobody batted an eyelid.

Theres an article on the Daily Mirror website about a guy who came over from Sierra Leone for the first time, MUST have paid for his flight to be changed and got him a ticket for the FA Cup Final.

And now loads of top reds are cryarsing because they were chubbed but this guy's going when he's never been to a game :D

Rumours building that we're going to continue to fail to learn our lesson and sign Zlatan instead.

Zlatan is just what we need anyway. He's an RvP, not a Falcao and it's not like there are hundreds of options for us to chose from on the striker front with no Champions League.

Zlatan wont come with LvG in charge

£250-£300K a week and he won't give a **** who's in charge.

Have mixed feelings about it myself, but as long as he plays better than Falcao it's ok by me

He's pacy, in or approaching his prime, and has a track record of delivering in top leagues?

If there is any truth in Zlatan, it should mean the end of LVG.

For that reason, pay him whatever he wants for a year ffs. Even 500k a week and I'd class it as value if that baffoon isn't in charge.

Neither rely on pace unlike a certain Columbian, yes and yes.

Zlatan has never played better than he is right now, if we had CL ambitions next season I'd probably have more reservations but even if we'd qualified that was never likely.

no problem with Zlatan coming(as long as it doesn't hold rashford back) it gives us a proven top quality forward and gives woodward his big name signing too on a free so a win win

hopefully we bring in a pacey wide man, ideally young and eager brandt/sane and a quality CD hopefully a box to box player too

oh and a new manager;)

having no UCL might work in our favour gives us the option to concentrate fully on Prem, use the Europa to rotate squad try things out:thup:

Yes because what we need now is a speedy player to run in behind for all those thrilling counter attacks we get because we don't absolutely murder teams with pointless possession. What definitely won't help is a proven goalsocerer who happens to be a physical monster with immaculate ball retention and vision and the ability to score from anywhere. Especially not one with a history of winning league titles and the kind of arrogance on the pitch we have way too much of at the club right now. Yes, it would be better if he was absolutely rapid but right now we're hardly creating loads of chances for Rashford who happens to be a little bit quick.

We need someone who gets involved in play and hold up the ball in the final 3rd to give others a chance to get in the box and not force our play out wide too early constantly.

Think we need someone proven elsewhere than post-Calciopoli Serie A and a one team flat track personally.

So you want more pointless possession? Never mind that players aren't allowed to try to score from anywhere. Danny Taylor's latest highlighted van Gaal forbidding players even shooting first time in the box.

If we wanted an arrogant physical monster who can score from anywhere in inferior leagues we should have signed Depay. Oh.

Yes, that's exactly what holding the ball up in the final 3rd and allowing runners beyond is about... pointless possession... exactly the same as pointless side to side passing across the midfield... yeah... sure thing.

yes agreed there are more pressing needs that need addressing that have to be if we genuinely want to challenge again

but this ticks a lot of boxes to the business bods he is free a big name will appease the sponsors etc and he brings proven experience(you could argue we could have kept RVP to do that last bit)

its is also the issues of no UCL a manger who is now a lame duck/who replaces him next year if he stays etc etc this will impact on what player/s we can attract this summer so Zlatan for a year looks very likely now

all will be revealed soon the manager situation obviously is the main one and woodward/the club publically has to make it 100% clear we are sticking with him or not

Yes, we should not sign players who would enable us to play a more attractive style of football because a manager who might not be here next season might not utilise him correctly... sure...

Oh I agree, if signing Zlatan means having to sell Martial and not buy a proper RW then fair enough... not sure those things are mutually exclusive mind.

just wondering if LVG will play anyone tomorrow who is in his starting cup team, surely not but you never know with him

I would imagine without injuries this will be his starting XI in final

So is LvG a factor or not? Is a quicker forward preferable or not? You seem to have gotten yourself tied up in all of 22 minutes; that's rapid even by your standards.

He'll rotate the fullbacks and play his strongest side otherwise.

lol yes might be right:D would be madness imagine certain players getting injured, don't want to say who might jinx it

if resting lot could look like this TFM in his best position, adnan might be able to play and young close too after injury

I don't know, has every other manager in the world forgotten how to utilise an attacking focal point? That sounds quite unfortunate, especially since the likely replacement is quite fond of them.

Is this why you think we'd struggle to counterattack post-LvG?
