Manchester United Thread 2015/16

5 minutes! Loads of time to score. Oh wait, we suck. Nevermind.

He got incredibly lucky last week. It has to stop. Would rather lose 5-4 at home than suffer through his stupid tactics. Make it stop.

Again, no urgency from anyone. No one hurrying anyone up. Just allowed to stand there and not take a throw.

Januzaj can't get into Dortmund side and be brings him on here instead of Depay bc he scored twice in reserve match? I cannot stand it anymore. Time to enjoy the grandchildren, Louis. Please do the right thing and resign.

So we sub Fellaini off at half time and some how look worse.

This squad is needing a massive revamp, I can't understand the complete lack of quality in this team.

Crap. This team as plenty of quality. This anti football would reduce Barcelona to also rans let alone us.

When you put a side out at home to defend against Shane Long, you get what you deserve. It isn't the side.

For the second year in a row, Southampton stun Old Trafford

No. 75,000+ fans in the stadium all knew what was coming. It was not stunning, it was inevitable.

5 points behind 4th and we could be 6th by the end of today. Didnt LvG say we were in a title battle last week? He shouldnt survive the night.

No one is stunned by that result or performance. Pretty much gone how we all expected.

The big question is do we bin LVG now and look like fools when Pep sign's for city and we end up with sub par manager because there ain't many going about.

We all know Ed isn't sacking LvG. And we all now why.

The club has been a shambles post SAF and Gill and it's getting worse.

As always with Van Gaal, its one step forward, two steps backwards.

He'll blame this result on the injuries.

Sadly he did and what that inevitably means to him is be careful. We didn't need to be careful today.

We sack him now and put Giggs in charge. We have nothing to lose, LvG wont get 4th, i'm not even sure he will get 5th.

Right. But here is my idea. Sack. Both. And I am pretty patient. They both suck. Done.

Even with the most defensive team you gotta offer more than that.

Try playing a 352 with two DMs on FM and see how much you offer. :)

Van Gaal got it so so wrong from the off today. Playing five at the back at home was a horrific decision, no urgency, no attacking threat (again), and baffling substitutions - not sure what reasoning he had to bring on Januzaj, who's had barely any football in the past 4 months, over Depay, who's looked decent in his recent sub appearances.

We actually looked alright after half time when we attempted to play through Mata and Herrera. That lasted for about 10 mins and then it was back to long, aimless balls down the flanks, basically gifting Southampton the ball back.

He's clueless. The worst bit is that it was clear to anyone we didn't need a back three + wingbacks today, Southampton offered very little upfront and it was hampering our attacking play, yet he refused to change it.

Sack LvG now, put Giggs in charge until the end of the season whilst trying to get Pep in for next season.

Get Ed on the commercial side and away from football matters.

Simples.

Not even shocked, the fluke results like last week are how this plonker keeps his head above water. I am joining the give it to Giggs camp because how much worse can it get.

LvG is basically stumpling and bumbling from one week to the next.

Its a disgrace that's he's still employed.

LVG set the team out every match to play as if the aim for the season is to reach 40 points.

Crap. This team as plenty of quality. This anti football would reduce Barcelona to also rans let alone us.

Darmian = bang average, Smalling decent enough to be a squad player if we are to harbour aspirations of getting back to our best, Borthwick Jackson not looking likely to be the next Irwin or Prunier for that matter, Mcnair playing because he is there rather than an ability based decision, Jones is too broken to ever be a top PL defender, Rojo decent squad player, Blind should be playing in the dutch league, Valencia and Young have and never will be good enough, the fact that young has been one of our better performers is more of an issue at how poor our squad has become, Januzaj over hyped and no better than Luke Chadwick was for us, Carrick - decent squad player, Herrera, Shweinsteiger and Schneiderlin have as of yet offered no consistency yet this is down to LVG.

Memphis, Martial and Mata have the ability/potential to be right up there yet need a capable manager to ignite this in them.

Marouane Fellaini. Emphasises EVERYTHING that is wrong with our club at present. Purchased by a clueless vice-chairman whose transfer negotiating skills bring back memories of trigger and del boy haggling for the briefcases in the 1st ever OFAH, only to offer nothing on the pitch apart from his ability to elbow and encourage desperate long ball football. We have grown up with a team ready to attack and play for their lives in the last 20 mins when required and when LVG brings him on to try and 'rescue' us a little part of me dies inside.

Now tell me again where there is "plenty of quality" in this squad???

In. I can accept less than 4th too. This is stultifying to watch.

LVG is a manager who managed to destroy Barcelona and Bayern Munich. No one should be surprised about what he is doing at United.

Better passing stats than Fellaini :D

Without a doubt.

In an ideal FM type world i would keep Martial, DDG, Herrera, Mata, Bastian, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Rojo, Smalling, Blind, Januzaj, Memphis and Young.

The rest will be shipped off sharpish and replaced

2 wins out of the last 10 on the league.

6 wins out of the last 20 in all comps

5th and five points off 4th

Not scored in our last 11 home games in the first half in all comps

No urgency at all at any point in the game regardless of what the score is.

GD of a paltry +7

Lost vs Norwich, Bournemouth, Stoke, Southampton and Arsenal.

There is quality in the squad, just now enough of it.

DDG, Shaw, Smalling, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Depay, Mata and Martial are all good enough. Darmian offered a balance to shaw on the left and was good enough.

We need a central defender, a winger and a striker and a manager and we would challenge.

Tbf he was generally successful at both Barcelona and Bayern, it just ended badly for him at both clubs. His record at both those at the start was excellent, it isn't going that way at Utd though.

This went well... :(

The worst is that I'm not even surprised any more. We're just cack, and it feels more like a fluke when we win, not when we lose.

Sid in talking out his ass shocker. Van Gaal left Bayern so destroyed they won the champions league the season after he was sacked. He also tore the team apart, persisting with young, no-name players like Muller, Badstuber etc.

It definitely is not Rooney's fault. Cringeworthy tactical setup designed to suck. Mata doesn't start. Januzaj comes in instead of Depay.

Only thing this match was missing was Powell and that is only b/c he is hurt.

This is the worst I've ever known Utd to be, even under Moyes, even in the 80's when we didn't win much but at least played entertaining football and could beat anyone on a good day. Sadly I think he has to go.

wrong again. The season after LVG was sacked (after somehow managing to finish 3rd with Bayern) the new manager had to re-start and undo the crap LVG did and finished 2nd in 2011/2012 and then managed to win the League and CL in 2012/2013.

Chris Smalling on today's game:

"It was a game where they were well organised, we were well organised and we cancelled each other out. It was gutting to lose really. To concede in a sloppy way when two teams were so well organised is unacceptable."

This is the root of the problem. Under Ferguson, we'd concede sloppy goals. We sometimes lined up with Mikael Silvestre, John O'Shea and Wes Brown in the same back four. But we had bags of attacking quality and attacking intent. We'd remedy lapses of concentration at the back (or at least try to) by going all out - especially at home. We also need to get over the fact that the opposition are "well-organised". A manager isn't earning his corn if his side don't set up at Old Trafford to keep it tight. We need to ask ourselves why we can't unlock this. Juan Mata was purchased to answer that specific problem. Wayne Rooney is paid astronomical sums of money presumably because someone somewhere thinks he might be quite good at scoring and/or creating goals. Isn't Ander Herrera supposed to be the best attacking midfielder we've had since Paul Scholes?

We never have a settled defence, and we can't break down sides that do. There's plenty of blame to apportion - some of the players, Louis van Gaal, Ed Woodward, David Moyes, Sir Alex Ferguson, the Glazers. They've all done their part to create this situation.

Every corner Chris Smalling still thinks it is acceptable to try an rip the shirt from the player he is marking. He could have given away multiple penalties if the ref punished it as he should. You'd think he'd learn after finally being punished for it earlier in the season but he remains one of the worst I seen for shirt pulling.
