[FM15] Keeping It Steel: Duroliponte's UK and Ireland Challenge

Recommended Posts

fm.png

Right, so since the earth-shattering loss of my uber-ambitious FM15 project (http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/401475-FM15-Zhlobin-like-a-baby-Belarusian-youth-challenge?) it's time to get back on the horse with...an uber-ambitious FM15 project. I only buy FM every other year and am confident enough, hard drive issues notwithstanding, that I can happily spend the time before FM17 is released by trying the British Steel challenge, which seems to have fallen by the wayside in recent years.

The inspiration for this save came by digging into the FMCU archive and reminding myself of Barney Butterball's 'Conquering Britain and Ireland' save (http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/322764-Conquering-Britain-and-Ireland-FM13?pp=100). He put in a real shift to ultimately win all 38 available trophies in five nations whilst only signing British or Irish players and I am going to see if I can even get halfway to emulating his great achievements.

So, my manager starts unemployed, with Sunday League experience and no badges, not knowing where he will be starting and totally unsure as to whether he'll add the Munster Senior Cup or the Barclays Premier League to his cabinet first...

Ireland and Northern Ireland aren't part of Great Britain.

Northern Ireland are but Republic of Ireland isn't.

No, they are not. That is why it is called "Great Britain & Northern Ireland". They are part of the United Kingdom, but not Great Britain. Google it for confirmation. As you say, the Republic of Ireland are not part of either.

Yep my bad, apologies, still a good challenge and looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

Wondered why the results screen looked odd and realised I hadn't included the goalscorers tab as yet, so will update that later.

This is getting tricky. We kept getting our matches postponed and slid into the relegation zone, and the board lost confidence even though we hadn't played in two weeks or so. I've lost a few more, including 3-2 away to second-in-the-table Gateshead, which prompted:

Now eight first-team players have turned against me, it's looking unlikely I'll even see the season out! Update this evening.

Would b a slightly harsh sacking considering where they were when you took over. Besides a couple of wins and your basically mid table! Keeping fingers crossed they see sense.

Good start. I'll be following along. :)

I've signed Sam Gainford for my team in two different careers, and he's always been a good player for me.

Finding it really tough. The players have stopped caring and I can't wait for the season to end.

Still waiting for him to show his best form, but yeah, definitely one of our better players.

Was just getting ready for a huge six-pointer against Macclesfield, and...

2015-02-09_00004.jpg

My record at Nuneaton, not stellar but not an abject disaster either given they'd had two wins all season when I joined.

Anyone who has followed my previous careers knows I take a while to get going, so onto my next victim- errr, I mean project!

So, it's Northern Ireland and recently relegated Dergview for me next.

A few minor things that strike me as being annoyingly buggy: I'm deemed to have poor media handling, but I only had a couple of press conferences at Nuneaton from which the game has judged this. Next, I've been told I have to keep my backroom team, which is fine but half of them don't want to renew, so I have wait for their contracts to run out before I can (hopefully) hire replacements. I hope the game doesn't punish me too much in this regard.

Whatever else, we're favourites for the title, so I hope to pick up my first trophy this season.

Oh, and Brian Little's Nuneaton Town were relegated.

Is that Brian Little who used to manage Aston Villa?

How the mighty have fallen.

The very same. If I recall he had an eight-year stretch as the last English manager to win a major trophy (1996) before Steve McClaren (2004) ended the run.

Is this a poisoned chalice? Red-hot favourites for the title but ranking 5th-10th on most areas of squad comparison. Three members of backroom team have left and I could only hire two as a replacement. Can't offer my best players higher appearance fees so that other teams in Championship 1 or even the same division can freely claim them.

If this seems like getting my excuses in early...I'm not. I'm ready for the rigours of a 28-game league campaign and will be ready with the first update this evening.

Hahahaha glad to see Nuneaton going down, that will show them!

Fairly average squad with some bright sparks, hopefully you can keep hold of the key players and the not so key players can rally for you. Good luck with the season!

Cheers, I lost an AMC and a RB but their replacements are stepping up without too many problems as you can tell.

Such a shame the board sacked you. Good luck with your new team.

Cheers, I'm enjoying life in...wherever I am at the moment.

Shame you was sacked, I find the board quite quick to do it on this FM, good luck with Dergview

Maybe there is a case for it when you don't have badges etc, but I don't think many boards would make such a rash decision right at the crucial part of the season.

September-Mid October Update

2015-02-13_00003.jpg

2015-02-13_00004.jpg

We drop points for the first time this season but goal difference keeps us top. Really wish we hadn't have conceded a 92nd minute equaliser to H&W Welders as Portstewart and even Queen's are hot on our tails. Still...

Looking good so far mate, I'm attempting a similar challenge and have also got a thread going, 2 seasons, 2 trophies. Not been close to any leagues as of yet though.

great start

Cheers, hope we can maintain it.

I have been checking it, that's a fast pace to set and one I doubt I'll manage to keep up with! one thing I can guarantee from this save is cup final losses, I often have a goalie with a brain freeze/slice of bad luck when it comes to the big one-off games.

Would you be tempted to stay at a club once you'd won everything in one nation and were still enjoying yourself? I've been wondering about this of late, the randomness of the career path is what makes this challenge so great I think.

5/14 go down. Ouch.

Yes, apparently there's restructuring in 2015/16 season, though I don't intend to be around to witness it!

Mid October-Mid November Update

2015-02-14_00004.jpg

2015-02-14_00005.jpg

We lose our first game but after a nervy win against Queen's pull clear of Portstewart for the first time all season.

Players leaving for nothing is a huge issue though, and we lost 3 good first-teamers this month. Especially sad to see McKinstry go, he's scored some important goals this season.
