Tactics Tactic A - Tactic B Overview We seemed to have a pretty strong midfield and we are more than adequate up front,our defence is the weakest area as we are lacking in the full back positions.The main reason I am playing a 4-3-3 with 3 MC's is that we have no left midfield or left wingers so this is the formation I will play with for now,early results in pre-season have been quite favourable but that means nothing so we'll see where we are at the end of the first month to see how well we can do this season. B.W.G Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share Posted January 11, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - August 2014 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts So far so good as we have made the perfect start to the league campaign,I have made a blunder by letting the assistant manager arrange friendlies as we have already picked up a few injuries from those.The 4-3-3 seems to be working fine so far and the goals have come from all over the park as nine players have contributed towards scoring the thirteen goals!It was a tough game against Berio but we scored a late winner,we battered Erandio 5-2 but it also highlighted some defensive problems which could be troublesome in the future.The game against Alaves B was supposed to be a close game according to the media but we ripped them apart and were probably unlucky to have not scored more than 5! My aim for September is to carry on our good start.We play four games against Oiartzun,Amurrio,Pasajes and Beasain.Honestly after three games,it is too close to call but we will play to our best in them all.The game against Beasain should be a high scoring affair as neither team can really defend and we are both the top scorers in the league.Amurrio also have a weak defence so we have to attack them from the off to catch them off guard.Oiartzun and Pasajes will both be tight games so we will see how we do. B.W.G Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share Posted January 11, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - September 2014 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts The ever impressive ran continued as we made it through the month with a 100% win streak as we sit on top of the table with seven out of seven victories.We were the better team against Oiartzun but it wasn't secure till late on.The Amurrio match should have been far more comfortable but for defensive errors but we still ran out 4-2.The game against Parajes was a weird one,we won 5-2 which included more defensive errors but the morale of the Parajes players was way down which I can only say was due to losing 5-0 the week before.The game against Beasain saw a miracle as we actually kept a clean sheet for the first time this season!It wasn't the greatest of games but I was expecting more goals than what was actually scored as both teams missed simple chances. October brings four more games as we face off against Lagun Onak,Portugalete,Santutxu and Arenas Club.Arenas Club on paper are the hardest team to face this month as they sit in 2nd but we have already beaten a team who were in 2nd and away from home so I believe we can do it again.The other three matches are against teams in similar positions as they sit in the 6th-9th positions so I do believe we can get something against these teams as our attack is very good along with our midfield.We'd be doing better defensively if we had some decent players!Hopefully complacency will not set in next month after the fantastic start we have had! B.W.G Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share Posted January 11, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - October 2014 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well all good things must come to an end which is what happened to our winning streak as we lost to Portugalete,no complaints as the way the match went then only one goal was going to separate the teams and we were on the receiving end but other than that we had two fantastic performances against Lagun Onak and Arenas Club as we won 6-0 and 5-1 with relative ease in both fixtures.The 3-2 win against Santuxtu was controversial as we won by a penalty which should never have been a penalty in the first place but these things happen.We have a four point lead at the top of the table but with the way things are going then I can only hope for other teams to take points off the chasing pack otherwise I'll have a team right behind for the majority of the season.Our recent defensive performances have not been bad and our attacking force as been exceptional,as long as that continues then we can carry on in the right direction. November is here and we face another five fixtures.We lock horns with Bermo,Cultural Durango,Aurrera,Balmaseda and Zalla.Bermo and Zalla are the mid table teams which we should be beat but as Portugalete showed,we can be beaten by those teams so we need to be at our best.Cultural Durango seem to be the draw specialists of the division and usually win games on the counter so they will be troublesome,Balmaseda are one of the teams chasing a playoff spot and will give us troubles but we will need our attack to be at it's best as we have a better attack.Aurrera are one of the whipping boys of the division and we should beat them due to having better quality players.My aim for the month is to still be top,we have some tough games and we need to avoid injuries but I think we can at least get 10 points from the month. B.W.G Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share Posted January 11, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - November 2014 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well it was the perfect month when it comes down to points as we picked up a maximum fifteen from fifteen.Performance wise gets a 4.5 out of 5.We had easy victories over Bermeo and Aurrera as we won both games 4-0 and it both times,it was extremely easy.We gave Cultural Durango their first taste of defeat as we fought to a hard earned 2-1 victory.We also won 2-1 against Balmaseda in what was a game of squandered chances as both teams failed to convert their chances.The game against Zalla looks a thriller with us winning 6-4 with a double hat-trick from Idarramendi scoring all six,the truth is that we were down to ten men after fourty minutes so Zalla couldn't even beat ten men and also their manager is a mouth piece saying we are not doing that great!We still have a six point lead but Beasain won't drop off so I can only hope so team beats them soon to give us a bit more breathing room. December sees us face three games in a slightly quieter month,we face Santurtzi,Baskonia and Zamudio.Santurtzi are a top half team who can cause problems but we can expose their defence as we are really good at attacking.Baskonia and Zamudio are both lower half teams,both teams are underachieving so I am not sure what to expect as they are predicted 4th and 5th so we will have to be careful as you never know when things can turn around!I am hoping for at least five points to keep going at the top as that will keep us top going into the new year! B.W.G Posted January 12, 2015 Author Share Posted January 12, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - December 2014 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well the game against Santurtzi was easier than expected and we actually scored all four goals in the game!We suffered our first draw of the season against Baskonia in which I was extremely annoyed as we blew a 3-1 lead and I let the team know at the end of the game.We were extremely lucky against Zamudio as they were the far better team but they couldn't convert any of their twelve chances while we had five chances and scored the only goal of the game,was pretty relieved after that game was over.The friendly was just to see how we compared to a Segund Division B team,they are currently 18th out of 20 and we easily beat there first choice side so I learnt pretty much nothing from the encounter! January sees the kick off to the second half of the season and we are in a very good position for a promotion playoff spot as we are 18 points ahead of 5th place.We face four games this month as we play Berio,Erandio,Alaves B and Oiartzun.Alaves B are by far the hardest team of the four as they currently sit in 6th,while the other three are the ones struggling in the division as the other three teams take up three of the bottom five spots so I am aiming for a minimum of nine points as that should keep us on course for a promotion playoff spot! B.W.G Posted January 12, 2015 Author Share Posted January 12, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - January 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well the good news is that we picked up 10 points from the games while we have increased our lead at the top to 10 points with fifteen games remaining.We dropped two points as we drew 0-0 with Berio in what I can only describe our performance as a disgrace.We easily beat Erandio but in reality we should have scored alot more than five goals.The game against Alaves B was end to end stuff and was a brilliant game for the neutrals but not for the fans as they'd probably have health issues watching that!The game against Oiartzun was another easy victory but this month was never going to be the toughest due to the positions the opposition were in but we now have a healthy gap at the top which is the most important thing. February brings us four more games,the highlight of these fixtures is a home tie against Beasain,if we can win that then that should put them out of the running for first place if things go our way.We also face Amurrio,Pasajes and Lagun Onak,Pasajes are the best of these three teams and should give us more of a challenge.Amurrion and Lagun Onak are not that far off a relegation battle so they are not safe so they could be tricky games as they will be fighting for their lives.Eight points from February will be acceptable as that will keep us at the top and pretty much ensure a playoff spot! B.W.G Posted January 12, 2015 Author Share Posted January 12, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - February 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well February was a very good result wise and we were pretty consistent with the scoreline as well as giving entertainment to the fans!We beat Amurrio,Pasajes and Lagun Onak 4-1,while the Amurrio and Lagun Onak matches were easy victories,I do have to have a bit of sympathy for Pasajes as they did not deserve to lose 4-1 as they actually put up a fight unlike the other two they were willing to attack as it was back and forth.The game against Beasain was more annoying as we failed to do anything right,we went 2-1 down after leading,squandered chances,they had a player sent off and we couldn't take advantage despite having more men,failing to convert chances then having to rely on a late equalizer to get anything from the match,needless to say I was quite annoyed with how things went.We now have a 27 point lead over 5th with 11 games left to play so I think we have pretty much secured a playoff spot! March sees us play five more games as we face Portugalete,Santutxu,Arenas Club,Bermeo and Cultural Durango.Portugalete is a game where I want revenge as they are the only team to beat us this season.Santutxu will be a tough game as they are chasing a playoff spot,Arenas Club are also in the playoff spots so they are all tough games as we face three of the top five.With Bermeo,they are barely above the relegation zone so that will be tough as they are fighting for their lives,Cultural Durango on the other hand are pretty much safe but they have little chance of making the playoffs so they could just switch off if I am lucky,my aim is nine points as that will keep us top.Also for March,it's time for the Youth Intake and all I hope is for a goalkeeper and some defenders who can play at a higher level! My Goalkeeper position is that bad that Diez is actually the strongest of the three keepers and at 16 which means he will be number one from next season!Luis Artola is another player ready for first team action but it will have to wait till next season,he will need training though so he the MC position can be more natural for him.Andoni Alonso is another player who is nearly ready for first team and his natural position is MC which is a position I use three players for.Arkaitz Alonso looks like he could be a very good DC for the club and already has good marking,heading and tackling attributes.Looks like my starting team for next season could be quite young. There are a number of others who look like they have the potential to be good players but they do need a lot of work but for Tercera levels,they will be able to do the job with ease.Will need to up my facilities somehow in the future so they can reach their potential but I feel we have enough for the third tier!Hopefully we can start making a profit from next season to ensure we can start making upgrades. B.W.G Posted January 12, 2015 Author Share Posted January 12, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - March 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well we picked up 13 points,we're secured a playoff spot and we're almost guaranteed to end the season in first place as well so things are looking pretty good at this moment in time.As for the games played,god dam Portugalete as they equalized in the last few minutes as we failed to hold on which means we failed to beat them this season.The next two games saw easy wins against Santutxu and Arenas Club as we were given very little to worry about.The game against Bermeo was disappointing despite winning 2-1,we were never really got out of 2nd gear as we made the game more difficult than it should have been.The game against Cultural Durango saw me give debuts to Mikel Diez and Luis Artola,both youngsters played well in the game and we really should have won by more but we failed to convert our chances,needless to say we took our first steps to a brighter future! April brings us four more games as we face off against Aurrera,Balmaseda,Zalla and Santurtzi.We can actually afford to relax now as we have a playoff spot but why would I do that!Aurrera are the bottom placed team but I will show them no mercy and will look to attack from the off.Balmaseda are a pretty decent team who sit in 6th so we will have to be careful as they have the ability to upset us so we will need to keep focused,Zalla are a similar team to Balmaseda so we will need to treat them as a threat as well.Santurtzi are a weird one,they are a team who are safe but nowhere near the top so hopefully they are already in holiday mode.I am looking for at least 6 points as we can afford to be more lenient now! B.W.G Posted January 13, 2015 Author Share Posted January 13, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - April 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well a miracle happened this month as we kept three clean sheets in a row in the league for the first time ever!We won the title in the 7-0 demolition of Aurrera which is our biggest win ever!We recorded a solid 2-0 win over Balmaseda with Luis Artola scoring his first ever goal for the club.The game against Zalla was an extremely boring 0-0 draw as we both squandered chances and possession which was annoying but it was just one of those days.The month finished up with a very comfortable 4-1 victory over Santurtzi,Artola scored his 2nd goal for the club while Alonso netted his first so it looks like my young midfielders know where the net is.We have the title wrapped up and have set new records for goals scored and points so we have been very dominant in the division.I am now willing on Beasain to also net over 100 goals as they just need three more! For May,we have two more league fixtures as we face off against Baskonia and Zamudio.Needless to say I don't really care for these two games as we have already done everything and I will continue to put in some youngsters to get game time.Both teams are safe and both teams cannot reach the playoff spots so maybe they have gone on holiday already and will not be there either!There is also the small matter of the promotion playoffs,according to the schedule it can last till the end of June so we could end up being pretty busy depending on where we enter. B.W.G Posted January 13, 2015 Author Share Posted January 13, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - May 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts They way we finished the regular season was a bit disappointing as we barely won against Baskonia in a game which saw us 2-0 down at half time but I will have to give credit to the players to turn it around like they did.The game against Zamudio once again showed our useless side as were very complacent and were lucky to come out of the game with a draw.The playoffs saw us drawn against Grupo XIII champions Yelcano,after seeing them play in both legs,my question is how bad is the rest of the league as we completely dismantled Yelcano in both games to give us an 8-2 aggregate victory.This victory means Segunda Division here we come!!! B.W.G Posted January 14, 2015 Author Share Posted January 14, 2015 Gernika Club - Trecera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco - End of Season 2014/15 2014/15 Transfers Zero players came in as it is a youth challenge.Rekagorri's contract was mutually terminated,Diez and Arregi left and I didn't even realize as that is how important they were not!Cid was a weird one,I promised him to bring him on from the sub bench but because of an injury he was starting games but he complained that I broke the promise so I released him.Lopez learnt that I am the boss and I don't take things lightly as he failed to turn up three times,three strikes and you're out!Gabilondo,Zarate and Carbonell went after their contracts expired and they were not really going to get any game time and with some of the youngsters coming through,they were going to get even less! Competitions Tercera Division Grupo IV - Pais Vasco League Table Promotion Playoff Leg 1 - Promotion Playoff Leg 2 Well it was a lot easier than I expected as we secured a Promotion Playoff spot in March and won the title in April.We set new records for points and goals scored which was a brilliant achievement.I am really pleased with how the midfield and attack performed but the defence and goalkeeper were a bit suspect at times but it did improve slightly after the youth intake which is always a positive sign.Biggest win was 7-0 against Aurrera which actually won us the title,we scored 6 goals twice,5 goals six times and four goals scored was an impressive twelve times!Most of the goals came from Zaradona and Idarramendi who scored 72 goals between them.As for the playoffs,I was quite disappointed,not with our performance but with the performance of the opposition,as champions who finished with 82 points from 34 games,I honestly was expecting more from them as we easily ran out 8-2 aggregate winners to gain promotion. We can't really do anything with regards to upgrades as we really don't have the money,we are only predicted to make a small profit according to our finances so it will be a few seasons before we can do anything,it will more than likely be in Liga Adelante that we can start upgrading more frequently but that is a long way from where we currently are.There are also other factors to include such as season tickets sales and the attendance could also help us out but depends on how many people turn up.We have also signed a new sponsorship deal worth £50.3k in comparison to the £22k we were earning so every little helps.The battle starts now! Pre-Season Fixtures A mixed bag of results but we were much better towards the end of pre-season but to be truthful,this was nothing more than fun and games compared to what we will have to go through during the season. The Team Squad Depth Tactic A - Tactic B Key Players Mikel Diez - GK Kolo - DC Inaki Zarandona - AMRC,ST Andoni Idarramendi - M/AMR,ST Diez is already a key player at the age of 16 so the best of luck to him in goal but I think he will be the number one keeper for a long time!Kolo is the best DC by far but at the age of 29 he is one of the older players but could easily go for another five years at this level.Zaradona and Idarramendi need no explanation as they were top scorers last season with 72 goals between them so I will be looking for them to score a lot this season to keep us up and safe from relegation.These four are the best players in the team and it's good to be able to have them for the next few seasons. Hot Prospect Luis Artola - M/AMC Artola is the hottest prospect at the club and will probably be featured the most this season as he is one of the best central midfielders at the club.Now we are in Segunda Division,I can see his potential properly and he has the potential to be a decent La Liga player which is brilliant news for us!He made an impact at the end of last season and hopefully more game time will help him develop into a class player for us! Manager's Thoughts Well I do enjoy a good pre-season where I have to do very little work other than renew contracts.We are as ready as we are ever going to be this season and I feel quite confident that we should be able avoid relegation.We will also be taking part in the Copa del Rey in which we are expected to be competitive,I feel that my board has no ambition what so ever,my aim for the Copa del Rey is to get to the 3rd round as I have seen the draw for the 1st and 2nd rounds and all teams are Segunda Division teams.An interesting team are also in my division,2001 Europa League finalist Alaves,will be interesting to see how we do.As long as I am better than three of the teams then I will be happy. As I said at the end of last season,there are no upgrades we can manager due to lack of funds and has I noted,we have a new sponsorship deal which will last 4 years at £50k a year which is better than nothing!So it is all quiet on the upgrades and finance front.However,I have found out that we have a Parent club which I failed to notice,Our parent team is Athletic Bilbao and we gain absolutely nothing from it and I can't cancel it.Apparently the link between the clubs is a local partnership which players are loaned,this has not been the case as Athletic only seem to loan their players to Numancia not that I am complaining but I don't even get any money out of it!The fight to survive begins now! B.W.G Posted January 14, 2015 Author Share Posted January 14, 2015 Gernika Club - Segunda Division B Grupo 2 - August 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well there is more relegation places then I first realised so if we finish this season anywhere between 5th and 15th then I'll be really happy!We've made a really good start to the season as we picked up nine points from twelve.Hot prospect Luis Artola secured three points against Tudelano,we scraped a win against Puerta Bonita in which we gave them a goal which made things too close for comfort.The loss against Alaves was acceptable as they completely battered us but we are playing two sixteen year old players so our team is quite a bit younger!The game against La Virgen showed our ruthlessness as we put them to the sword with a 4-1 victory which featured a goalmouth scramble as it took four attempts in the box before Cuesta scored!Nice to see Arenas Club down there as there manager hates me for some reason! We kick off September with a home fixture in the Copa del Rey against Segunda Division Grupo A side R.Cantabria,they are struggling at the moment so I think we can secure a win against them.We then have four league games against Sestao River,Real Sociedad 'B',Guadalajara and Real Union.I can't really comment on these games as it is still close in the league,if I can get six points from these games I will be happy as it will keep us away from the relegation zone but if we play to our best then we could secure 7-9 points.My main aim is to progress in the Copa del Rey as it is more money for the coffers and if we win then we have a home tie in the 2nd round! B.W.G Posted January 14, 2015 Author Share Posted January 14, 2015 Gernika Club - Segunda Division B Grupo 2 - September 2015 Fixtures League Table Manager's Thoughts Well I'll be damned,I am honestly surprised that we are in a playoff spot after eight games!We recorded victories over Sestao River in a game where we finished with ten men,Real Sociedad 'B' and Guadalajara which was another game where we finished with ten men.We did drop points against Real Union but I am surprised we got anything out of the game as they were the better team.As for the Copa del Rey,we are on a roll as we have made it to the 3rd round,we knocked out R.Cantabria 3-1 in what was a close match then the scoreline suggests.In the 2nd round we then destroyed Guadalajara 4-0 to move onto the third round,I was happy with this as it means we have some money in the coffers.Also during the month,I signed a new contract which will last till June 2017 but it's progress and I should get that extended if we keep doing what we are doing! For October we have five matches,we play Amorebieta,Fuenlabrada,Barakaldo and Ponferradina.We should be able to beat Amorebieta and possibly Barakaldo as for Fuenlabrada and Ponferradina,I'm not holding my breath as Ponferradina are unbeaten so far and are top of the league while Fuenlabrada are right behind us so it will be a very close game.The other match comes in the Copa del Rey as we host Extremadura U.D,they are another Segunda division B side who are currently 14th in Grupo 4 so I think we can beat them as we have been playing better and we have home advantage which means more money for the coffers which is the most important thing.So the aims are six points and progress in the Copa del Rey and that will make me happy.
