FM15: Tottenham Hotspur - Always Take Lamela With You

Is Walker-Peters now a possible future first teamer?

3.5/4* from what I remember so yes. I read a thread that said Tottenham were the best team in terms of upgrades including a handful of youth players with 4* potential. From what I could see, Walker-Peters, the young centre back whos name escapes me, Azzoui and Onomah. I am giving Ruben Lamieres ago but retraining him as a wing back, think he might make it there!!! Thomas Carroll has 3.5* potential still. Kane is beast like and Mason and Bentaleb are first team ready!!

After having success with Soton and Newcastle on the last patch. I've decided to go with Spurs and see what I can do with the boys after the update.

Good choice! It's similar challenge to Southampton, I'd say, given the talented young players at the club and the lofty ambitions.

Hey all,

Finally made the plunge and bought the game..... unusually slow for me as I am normally up at midnight to get it asap and have a day booked off work...........

Anyhows....

Once again I am bitterly disappointing at just how bad the ENTIRE backroom staff are. The only stand out person is Kieran McKenna. I love Spurs, but traditionally being a Rugby fan I am not overly familiar with the club to understand if this is a fair reflection or not. It's the same every year. Surely they cant be that bad?

What do you guys do? stick with? get new? edit?

On another note, how are you all getting on with Dier? I like my wingbacks very attacking thus with his lack of ability to make a cross that only leaves the DC position. I was about 1/4 into the season playing a narrow 442 and started to get complaints from him about lack of games, so I gave him a chance.

Two of the three games he has played have been lost (partially down to poor attacking) due to him missing to longball headers. In both instances it was from deep, a keeper and a left back, it sailed over his head (jumping 13) and the striker had a clear run at goal.

Might just be unlucky. I want to like him as I love mobile defenders and his balance, agility and acceleration are all great for a DC but his jumping, or lack of, is clearly a massive liability. What worries me most is that they were both uncontested so it wasnt as though he needed 19 in jumping to beat anyone.

Have any of you managed to improve his jumping? I got a message farily early into the season along the lines that he (or a coach) was concerned that it wasnt improving and it was best to switch to something else.

Regards

LAM

Yeah, you're right, the backroom staff always seem bad at Spurs. I have no idea if it reflects reality but I do find it hard to believe one of the richest football clubs in the world would have physios who aren't right at the top of their field or youth coaches who are basically useless!

Dier's been pretty average for me (though I have been playing on the old patch and I imagine you're on 15.3 if you just started the game, and Dier received a stats boost (see the posts on the previous page of this thread).

Afternoon all. I've just started a new game as Spurs on the latest patch, still have my long term save from before where i'm into 2026 but i couldn't resist seeing the new and improved Harry Kane!!!

Transfers in to begin this game have been: Jose Gaya (13.5m), Ante Coric (2.2m), Inigo Martinez (22.5m) & Domenico Berardi (26m). I know that i've over spent on Berardi but I know how good he turns out to be from my previous save (was the thorn in my side when ever I played Man Utd) so just went for him. Also with Martinez I had to pay his release clause as Moyes refused to let him go for any less. I signed Gaya as i'm not a fan of Danny Rose IRL and he looks like he will be the business once he's at full potential. I had agreed a fee and wages with Memphis Depay & Lucas Romero but in the end didn't have the money to fund them both as I decided I needed Berardi more due to Eriksen being injured for 4 months before we'd even kicked a ball meaning I've had to change my teams shape to using two strikers.

Transfers out were: Paulinho (7.5m), Danny Rose (10m) & Vertonghen (41.5m rising up to 48.6m will clauses). I've tried in vain to transfer list and flog off Adebayor, Kaboul & Townsend but had no takers even though some teams were interested. I actually managed to get rid of Adebayor for 13m on my last save to Liverpool but they had already bought Savic this time so i assume they don't have the money or wages to afford him. doesn't really matter now as he is out injured for 5 months with knee tendonitis so will try again most probably next season. I did also offer out Chadli, & Capoue but again found no takers.

Formation I am using is 4-4-2 diamond narrow with my first 11 being: LLoris, Yedlin, Chiriches/Fazio, Martinez, Gaya, Capoue, Bentaleb, Mason, Lamela, Berardi, Kane. The reason i'm playing with Yedlin over Dier at RB is because I need the width to come from my full backs where I feel Yedlin can be used as a better option due to his pace. This will be until Kyle Walker returns from injury of course then he will slot in there. Once Eriksen is back i'll be looking to change my shape to 4-2-3-1 with Berardi playing off Kane and Eriksen on the left. I'm also testing out a 2-3-2-2-1 formation but i'm not likely to use it that often this season till I get a more specialised CB in as Fazio & Kaboul will never cut it with their lack of pace and ability with the ball at their feet.

Came through pre-season reasonably well and have just finished my first game of the season against Crystal Palace and have came away with a 2-1 win even after going a goal and a man down with Yedlin getting a straight red for scything down Bolasie.

Just away to play in Europa League qualifier against AEL which we should coast through comfortably I'm hoping....

To be fair, I also edited away the big ass loan (is it £340m?) before starting, since I assumed it had to do with the new stadium.

How did you do this?

How did you do this?

You need to use the editor (not the in-game one). Its a free download from Steam that's available in the Tools section, and it's basically a big database of all the info from the game that you can make changes to (though they'll only be useable for new saves, not existing ones).

Any idea on how to take screenshots and then load onto here from a iMAC. I wanted to show you guys my Joshua Onomah as someone was saying he didn't have 15 shooting at start of their game. I am in January and he has played 12 first team games and is really improving for me quite dramatically. Also, Cameron Carter-Vickers (I think that's his name) is really improving as well. Kyle Walker-Peters as well is improving and Azzouai has just scored on his debut in the FA Cup 3rd round against Wolves. In terms of transfers I have made a couple but not drastic. Cant seem to get rid of Kaboul and Paulinho but got £8m for Ade and £9m for Lennon. Stambouli has just left for Benfica in January for £10m. Only players in have been Depay and Verratti and a handful of youth players like Ajer, Vellejo. Kane has just won European Golden Boy as well so I am really keen on showing the changes mid season.

Aaaaaaaargh. I am so torn between continuing my save that I'm four and a half years deep in to or starting a new one with the patch updates loaded. I think Kane, Bentaleb and Mason are going to swing it for me though...

You have to do it enders!!!! Kane, Bentaleb, Mason, Onomah, Walker-Peters, Azzaoui, Carter-Vickers.... its endless..... whole different Tottenham to work on, like playing as Southampton with the potential, even Ruben Lamereas is doing well for me although prob wont cut it!!!

Yeah, I'm tempted but I'e just got to that part of my other save where you really start to love your squad.

Oh, also, a tip for people starting on 15.3: you can buy Massimo Luongo back from Swindon for £400k. Even if you don't use him yourself he's worth a lot more than £400k so worth buying just to move on again for a lot more.

He looks pretty similar to Ryan Mason and is two years younger...

Just started a save with Spurs, what is the best tactic to use, to get the best out of Kane, Bentaleb and Mason?

Not really had much of a look at them in the new patch but there's a few tactical suggestions from me in the first posts on this thread and throughout the thread from others. Sure they'll be a good starting point.

Woah I had no idea this was here already. Starting a new game now. Going to build around the youth at the club with a couple of key additions and getting rid of some of the dead weight at the club.

What is Harry Kane's best role? I like to use him as a complete forward, but his dribbling lets him down.

Sounds good I will give it a go in my first game my very first of 15.3 new season started against Arsenal what a big test!!

So update!!

Harry Kane is wonderful as a DLF and I have Eriksen as a SS because it works really well. Now I just don't know how to setup my central mids.

Halfway through first season.

Highlights:

Lamela is on fire. 19(3) played, 16 assists, 15 goals. Whats even better is that he only got one goal and one assist in his first 4 games so most of these stats are over the last 15 games. It's pretty much certain that he'll either give me two goals or a goal and an assist in each game.

Lacazette has been amazing too. Though I think I might have just made a mistake with him. I have started teaching him 'shoot with power'. The coach didnt like it stating that he already missed to many opportunities as he didn't think about where he was shooting and after watching him he naturally places shots around the keeper. Will immediately try and teach him 'places shots' when power is finished.

Dembele has been good too though he has fallen off the wagon lately a little as he wants to leave. What interests me here is how many struggle with him. I've used him the same for the last 4/5 versions of the game. MC (whatever simple role - currently BBM). Run with ball ON, Shoot Less ON.

Please bear in mind with Dembele he is an very good passer of the ball but has trouble 'seeing' the whole field. Thus, getting him running through the middle and drawing in defenders then he will make great passes infront of him through the defence. He really is an outstanding MC man.

Kane is also doing very well. Surprisingly well given how wastefull he is with long shots.

Dissapointed with Eriksen. I know he is not an ideal MC man, but for some reason I can not get excited by him in this game.............. need to work on him more.

@lam

what tactic/formation are you using if you dont mind me asking?

its just that in recent versions of FM i have struggled to get the best out of my fullbacks. in the older versions it was never a problem for me as they would get involved with the play and contribute to the attacks and defend well too... i know recent FM's have had issues where most of the goals conceded are from crosses.

Asim,

This is what I run with mainly.

2rz2n9h.jpg

There are a few changes I make in games to make life easier and they mainly come from Cleons thread School of Defensive Arts (original) from post #12. I think that thread was for a diamond 442 but for this formation/tactic it mostly revolves around removing 'retain possession'.

I played around a lot with the tactic particularly with the MC's and FC. I finally settled on the above after reading Bust the Net by Rashidi1. I also took on his 'close down more' for the front three.

I still need to tweek it as it is incredibly wasteful as I generally have at least 20-25 shots per game and its not uncommon to break 30 against mid table teams.

I have a backup tactic with the same formation and player roles/duties, however it is a standard mentality rather than attacking and is VERY fluid and I do not use push up. I will switch to this against weak teams if they are parking the bus and I can not get through after 65/70 mins. It sits deeper, thus drawing them out but I wanted VF as I want to ensure I at least try to exploit any opportunities that arise.

I like the looks of this tactic - must play a lot like 3-4-3 at times with the HB dropping in to the defence and the WBs pushing on?

@lam Your tactic is very attacking, way too attacking for my liking. You have a attacking mentality for the team and for all of your flank players. I'd consider changing Eriksen to Advanced Playmaker and perhaps give Lamela a support role. I don't think Walker or Rose are good enough going forward to justify them being wingbacks with an attacking role. I'd consider changing one of them to a fullback with a support role at least. Personally I also like to give my CBs different roles. Shawcross could be a stopper as he is aggressive, while Balanta could be cover. Just a suggestion. Remember you don't need to use the BBM role for your players to work all over the pitch.

Season 1 Review

Brilliant first season, managed to stay in the top 4 for the entire season. Along the way of finishing 2nd in the league (only 6 points and 3 goals behind Chelsea) we got some memorable victories: 5-2 West Ham (A), 3-0 Man City (H), 5-1 Everton (H), 4-0 Man Utd (H), 6-1 West Ham (H), Liverpool 4-1 (A), 3-1 Arsenal (H) and that was just in the EPL. Picture below to view the EPL table. *Oh by the way Arsene Wenger got sacked :p*

7zGaYfP.png

For the cups we won the Europa Cup. We got kicked out of the Capital Cup by Everton in the Semi Final, winning the first leg 2-1 at our ground, then losing 5-3 at their ground, which I was disappointed in. We went out in the FA Cup to Chelsea in the 5th round, holding them to a 0-0 at Stamford then losing the replay 1-0 at WHL. But in the Europa Cup we had some memorable Thursday nights: *In the group* Beating Wolfsburg 3-2 (A) and 4-3 (H), Viktoria Plzen in the 2nd Knockout Round 9-1 (H), Inter Milan in the Qtr's losing 2-1 at home but beating them 3-1 at their ground. We then gave Everton some payback in the Europa Semi Final, drawing 3-3 at their ground and then beating them 3-0 at ours which took us into the Final against Lille who we beat 4-1.

Transfers

For the first season transfers, a fair bit happened.

In

Khouma Babacar - £6.75m

Remy Cabella - £19m

Out

Etienne Capoue - Dortmund - £8.5m *And he's now transfer listed in the 2nd season lol*

Nacer Chadli - Dortmund - £10mil

Some people may not agree with who I've sold and bought but just wait.

---

Second season has started and I was given a £54m transfer budget to Challenge for the Title, and these are the players I've bought and sold so far.

In

Kyriakos Papadopoulos - £2.8m

Emanuel Mammana - £5m

Youri Tielemans - £7.25m

Timo Horn - £6.75m

Memphis Depay - £25m *I did try to sign Pione Sisto, but he didn't want to enter talks since he recently joined Lazio, he signed a new contract and now his £15mil buyout clause is £41m :(*

Out

Vlad Chiriches - Liverpool - £11.25m

Andros Townsend - Liverpool - £25m

Lewis Holtby - HSV - £4.8m

Michel Vorm - Spartak Moscow - £5m

Emmanuel Adebayor - AC Milan - £5.25m

I am trying to bring in Gabriel Barbosa and have a fee agreed but I need to sell Kaboul or Paulinho to fund it, some hopefully I can bring him in before the window closes.

P.S. I'm sorry for such a long post I wanted to include a nice amount of info, if you want to see what tactic I use/player instructions, just name the player and I'll get a screenshot :)

Remember you don't need to use the BBM role for your players to work all over the pitch.

I agree, it is very attacking. Though, it works surprisingly well defensively. I have the second lowest number of goals conceded in the league and the highest number of clean sheets. It is worth noting at this stage that I also rotate my defence including my keeper a fair bit, which is likely cost me a goal or two so far. We are 27 games into the first season and have conceded 23. Sure, it could probably be better but I have scored the highest amount of goals too at 73. Give me the best goal difference by 5.

Of of those 26 conceded came in one game where it was an 8 goal thriller against Chelsea.

I generally use stats to decided during a game if either of my two IF(A) need to be (S). If they are not involved enough, and it is worth noting that it is very obvious, then I'll drop them to a (S) and this generally brings them into the game.

Lamela AMR IF(A) has the 2nd highest assists in the league at 14 (one behind Coutinho). He has the highest rating in the league and the joing highest MotM awards (joint with Falcao). He also has the 4th highest number of goals. All from the (A) position.

Likewise, Lacazette, my #1 pick for AML IF(A) has 6 goals and 7 league assists from 17 appearances and 5/2 from 7 continental appearances.

You're correct about Walker and Rose, depsite their strengths they are unlikely to last beyond season two in this team as they are hopeless at crossing. That said, Walker has the 2nd highest ratings in the league, second only to Lamela. He rarely crosses which annoys me immensely about him, but chooses to take a single step inside to pass the ball. Normally this is to Lamela who then shoots or makes a short cross.

I played around with the two MC positions a fair bit in pre-season and my first choice for the MCR role was AP(S) but, whether because it was due to poor familiarity or not, the role did not work well. Since SFrasers (RiP) thread about Manchester United I have always liked, but rarely used, a twin role/duty combo in the MC positions. It works really well in this game. My concern around Eriksen in this role is that mentaly and physically he lacks the 'getting back' bit of the BBM role. He is on just over a 50% assist rate per game, which to be fair is acceptable.

I might play around with his role when he is in the team as I think the MCL BBM would still work.

All your points are valid and I can assure you that I have shared the same thoughts, but its hard to argue with the results :)

I do have a back up tactic that is the same roles and duties but standard mentality with push up removed. I increase team shape to very fluid and generally this is used when I am bring pushed back to much OR if I am struggling to break a defense.

Only frustration I have with this tactic is that goals vs opportunities is low, or at least it feels that way.

Still plugging away on my pre 15.3 save. Half way through my 5th season now and sitting 3rd behind Arsenal and Chelsea. A little disappointing after we won the league last season and started this campaign with a 6 game winning streak. Still, it looks like this will be the first time we get out of the Champions League group stage and we're in the League Cup semi-final (having knocked Arsenal out in the QF - when I drew them I knew I couldn't play the reserves anymore!).

Harry Kane has close to 120 league goals for the club now...

End of Season 1 League:

9vk389.jpg

I still have the Euro final and FA final to play.

*EDIT*

Won the Euro vs Galatasary. Though we made it a hard game. Dominate play but only scored once and missed a ton.

Lost the FA cup. 30 shots, only 10 on target and a massive 10 longshots. I think I put to much pressure on my players as my three goal machines were nervous the ENTIRE match. Lost to a 91 minute foul in the box by walker (done that three times this season). They converted and the whistle blew......... GUTTED!

cant seem to sell the players as easily as i could before the patch.

previously sold vertonghen for 45m and paulinho for 35m which set me up to keep finances very healthy as my signings were very cheap.

i cant sell paulinho at all this time i would be happy for 15m.

i dont mind keeping him but he wont get the game time to impress to generate interest,

and if i do play him then it will reduce the development of bentaleb and mason who i want to throw in.

i can sell soldado for £10, i kept him previously to tutor kane and it bumped his determination up, but with the update he cant tutor kane now.

i think i wil have to play with the squad until jan and then ship a few players out then

update on transfers. End of season one and start of season two.

nby7ph.jpg

First three games of season two. Something special for the Arsenal haters. Probably the best performance of similar teams I have ever experienced in the game. (also includes league position after three games. Nice goal difference.

2u6fgnn.jpg

Henderson cost me a small fortune but I needed someone decent in MC and in three games he has scored 3 goals and 2 assists. His goals have all been long range volleyes from outside the box!

Solved my Eriksen problem........ sold Chadli and moved him to AML/R as IF(A) or AP(A) and in three games he has 2 goals and 3 assists.
