Well done for quoting a post and completing ignoring the largest portion of said post, which was in fact constructive criticism.

It's here again.

I'm aware a lot of works goes into the ME, I even have a few complements of the improvements that were made during the recent patch, in the post that I made.

Which you've conveniently ignored.

Perhaps I was a little harsh saying SI has their priorities on graphics over gameplay.

However, DamianJMcgrath, his post just above this now - Highlights no pros, regarding ME gameplay, and only cons. He does however, suggest their has been a lot of pretty new graphical improvements, and who better a critique than someone who has been away from the game for awhile?

I wasn't talking about this iteration of the ME, I was talking about the general programming rule for the match engine that has existed for awhile, one which every one is aware of, and more or less accepts.

And that is, lots of chances are created, and to balance that out for more realistic scorelines, certain situations, like one on ones for example, are very hard to score from, the rate is very bad indeed.

We all know this? Why fight against it?

All that is false though, so we don't know it. It's a falsehood to say its balanced that way. Not sure why you say everyone accepts that, because anyone of the ME devs would instantly tell you that view is incorrect.

Tackling seem to be out of control.

Sides making 70+ tackles a game, with 75%+ accuracy.

For example, Oscar one of the hardest working attacking midfielders, renowned for getting back and tackling has 2.8 tackles per game in real life.

Azpilicueta one of the best defenders in the league at the moment, has 3 tackles per game in real life.

Yet in FM2015 players without the defensive abilities of the above players, are making up to 10 tackles a game with 75% accuracy, including attacking players with terrible tackling, position and work rate stats. Making perfect lunging tackles from behind inside the box, over and over.

Fernandinho for man city, averages 3.8 tackles per game and its pretty much his only job.

edit. Chelseas stats this season in tackles per game (real life) is an average of 21 tackles per game.

My Chelsea team in FM2015 would easily be 3x that per game.

A game should have roughly 20 tackles per side during a match, around 40 all up.

The current game has 140+ tackles per game not being unusual.

Regarding injuries, I've seen many posts, and the explanation by SI that ingame injuries are lower than real life and what can cause the injuries in the game. This post is not to complain about the injuries in game, but to try to understand one thing. In one thread I saw a SI member or a moderator saying that we can't set training intensity to high on pre season, because the players are not fit, so this can cause injuries. I'm not sure how it works in other countries, but in Portugal, the first weeks of pre season are the most intense, with very high physical training. So all this years, I did the way the clubs do in real life, and this will cause injuries in the game. I think SI is not seeing this correctly.

Pre-seasons are intense. But they are also one of the high risk areas (talking real life, not FM) in terms of injuries, especially muscle injuries. It can and does cause injuries. The advice was that if you are seeing heavy injuries in that period, not to be so intense. That said, not enough intensity in pre season (again mirroring real life ) can leave your players undercooked, and struggling for fitness during the season. It's a balancing act

This is purely down to how defensive effort is reflected in FM. The Match Engine cannot replicate physical contact like shoulder barges etc. In the absence of that ability, players have to resort to "tackles" to win the ball. As such, you can't compare FM tackle count to any real-life tackle stats, as it is comparing chalk and cheese.

Ok, I understand it now, thanks for your explanation

There must be some way of getting the players to tackle and attempt to stop someone running down the wing. I've just had my left back run backwards with the attacking playing running in front of him all the way down the field - until he crossed for a goal of course. All my defender did was escort him down the pitch for a goal.

The full league table is STILL displaying incorrectly ! After I mentioned the points total on the full table only showed points gained from away matches it was fixed when the full game was released but the total goal difference is still only that from away games !! It's such a fundamental and basic error so how come it has been missed for so long ?? Sort it out Si !!

I am really not enjoying this years game, the match engine is very bad. For me it is one of the worse FM games made.

I could be cruising 3-0 then all of sudden the AI smash 3 long rangers in and then my GK makes a stupid error and with no fault of my tactics I lose.

Despite all the claims on the boards the game is a mess. It isn't playing well at all. Since the Beta was launched it has gotten steadily worse with each update.

Question is who tests the game beforehand the goals thing is obvious, Are the testers sacred they wont be a tester anymore if the say negative things about the game

Aye, but apparently 35% of assists being crosses is a more pressing concern

There isn't anything I can do to stop that amount of goals going in, I don't play all out attacking football, I just either batter a team or get battered myself

I'm also, perhaps wrongly, assuming that those stats are only from this season, but these are my results so far

That's averaging 9 goals a game for 20 matches. Do you not think that's a more pressing issue than where the assists are coming from?

I didn't even notice the stats on the amount of goals, just the crosses, it must take into account last season there as well, which doesn't make a lot of sense

Mostly passes.

It's your tactics, I'm afraid :p

And despite all your claims, the game I'm playing is excellent and in no way a mess. But maybe I just use sensible tactics, then.

Latest update made the game much better, the one before that was the only update that made it worse.

On the opening in the Championship, 6 teams scored 5 or more, if you want that then you have that

The problem with this is the way these stats are produced,

A lot of build up play is through the wings, a quite often that cross will get parried and result in a goal, or deflected, or both and then get passed to a player in the box for a tap in..

I'd still count that goal as being a result of a cross and wide play.

Also, what about crosses from inside the 18 yard box, are they counted as crosses or passes?

I'm seeing, despite an increase in defensive effectiveness against crossing, and the goalies ability to save shots, that most goals are still coming from wide. Me and the opposition.

I gotta tell you, my saving times are the same as prepatch, no worries there (just a bit slower than usual). Also the background match processing is a bit faster and the overall save moves a bit faster than before. I'm on a Macbook Pro mind you.

I'll report of any crashes!

You have that, I don't. I play LLM, and after 4 rounds played one team has scored 5 goals in a match, once.

So far I've seen NONE of the problems that some people complain about.

Hey I'm playing as coventry too, I also have Thorpe and Harriott. How 'bout that!

I am finding the latest patch a vast improvement personally. When I concede a goal, I can usually figure out why and adjust tactics etc.

Nearly almost knocked out hull city in the fa cup 3rd round. So close to a giant killing

Im playing in the lower leagues and the game seriously feels broken due to all the injuries. I just did some tests and replayed a game 5 times. Every single time there was at least 1 injury. 3 games had 3 injuries the the other two games had 1 injury and 2 injuries. How is this even playable?

I'm really enjoying the ME, the game is much better than the FM13 (which considered the worst game of all) and evolved in relation to FM 14.

I'm just thinking that many are thrown out the sides, going no-balls with goals from passes through, there has been a lot of goals coming from crosses and many headed goals.

I think we should improve on ME:

- Passes the players (more varied, passes to the side of the foot, beak, the back side of the foot)

- More kicks and goals from outside the area

- More dribbling (dribbling cow, dribbling between his legs, elastic, more tables, greater exchange of passes)

- More game for the players body (protection scramble for the ball)

- Most goals by bike, volleying, dribbling past the goalkeeper

- More shots of individual players that tilt, with above-average quality

- Better ball control of players

What were their match fitness and condition?

If you replay the same match, you will have the same conditions active that contribute to an injury. Injuries in FM are below normal rates in football and have been for years. Look at any given club's injury lists and compare to FM and you won't find much difference except fewer overall in FM.

Interesting.

How is the Strength attribute implemented? A strong targetmen, would he be more resistent to tackles? Balance also.

Tbh never really understood the difference between strength and balance in context of the match engine.

Are the quality of direct free kicks completely random or is the free kick rating actually taken into account? I only ask because I'm managing Berwick in Scotland's League One and have Lee Currie with 18 free kick rating. In two years he's hit the target no more than six or seven times and the closest he came to scoring was hitting the bar despite the fact he's getting a decent chance from 20-25 yards every game. Despite that, I'm conceding a goal about every five games from a direct free kick. Due to my crap scouts I can't see their free kick rating but in Scotland's third tier I bet it's nowhere near 18.

Corners and free kicks are still annoyingly effective. It's more frustrating that the goals look so unrealistic. I don't mind too much when a defender out jumps his marker to score from a corner. But a free volley inside the six yard box from a corner? That doesn't happen. Too many ping pong goals go in from dead balls too. And don't get me started on free kicks from out wide where the defence just don't drop back or follow their men. Overall I'm enjoying the game but certain parts of the match engine are testing my patience.

I believe strength is used when charging for the ball and balance is the ability to withstand charges, but I could be wrong.

As for what RTHettingbone said, I play in 2d classic so I can't really tell but I don't think every time to players clash is through a tackle right?

I'm still getting credited for winning competitions that we certainly didn't win. It just told me I won the quadruple, including the Club World Cup, when in fact we lost the first round and finished 5th. Previously I've had it tell me I won the Champions League on a couple occasions, and the league countless times.

My problem is that I have an unhappy player who I have actively trying to sell. I haven't been able to and now he's screwed with the team morale by complaining. How the hell can I sell you when no-one wants you???

Ive noticed that sometimes when you try to tutor a young player, it sais that he cannot be tutored because he alredy has a senior role... however he is on a hot prospect contract. Is this a bug? If so are SI aware of it? If not I can post a bug report

Agree with this, i have a 17 year old who yes, does start most games but just because he starts games doesn't mean he can't be tutored by a more senior experienced player.. The option to tutor should be there regardless of their role

Updates are always save game compatible. The only issue you may have if there is a data update to an item that you have already changed as the update change will overwrite your change. Otherwise there are no problems.

I've heard that games started in the beta mean that I can never get my coaching badges as it always gets stuck, and I would have to re-apply to begin the course again - leading to a vicious cycle in which I never earn my National A License. Is this true, or some awful rumour?

God I hope not... The same thing keeps happening to me, except I am stuck on National A license. I really hope this can be fixed for my save as I am well into it now, just about to begin mu fifth season and would not want to start a new save.

Only update I was considering was changing Reus to 'will leave at contract end' just so ican actually pride him from Dortmund without them agreeing a new deal over my exorbinate one.

Thanks for the reply

Just out of interest have you checked which club did win these competitions? If it's the same one winning them it might be some database thing making it think you're managing someone else.

Regarding the corners issue, I read a few pages back that if you switch to zonal marking in the six yard box it helps. So I went to the set piece creator and gave it a try. Now I'm defending corners much better, although this is only after a handful of games so hardly definitive, but I wonder if there is a similar tactical approach to stopping the deadly crossing and lethal finishing?

Other than that a big thumbs up for the game from me. We're not even a week after general release and the game is already pretty good (I know there are issues but I'm enjoying it anyway). Last year I waited until Christmas to buy FM14 but this year the lure of Beta sucked me in!
