FM15: DLP vs. Regista vs. Roaming Playmaker

Recommended Posts

I was already a little unclear on the difference between DLP and Regista (presumably the Regista was a roaming DLP with greater creative/passing freedom, like Pirlo) but now the addition of "Roaming Playmaker" I'm confused again.

DLP = Xabi Alonso

Regista = Pirlo

RP = ???

DLP = Stays Deep, More Disciplined in Positioning

Regista = Stays Deep Mostly, Roams in Deep Areas, Complete Creative Freedom

Roaming Playmaker = Starts Deep But Aggressively Moves Forward, Sort of a DLP in the build-up phase and an AP in the attack phase

I think Xabi and Pirlo have played all three roles at various points, so it's not always helpful to strictly associate a role with a single player.

To me a RP is like what Fabregas is doing at Chelsea this year. Played as a CM, helps out on defense, dictates the game from deep positions but then will get up the pitch afterwards as well.

RP is like Yaya Toure or Stevie G(at his peak). A midfielder who provides those surging runs deep from midfield imo.

I have also noticed that roaming playmaker will usually get higher up the pitch than regista. That confused me a little bit, because if I choose rm and regista on the tactics screen for DM position, regista's position is higher.

There are a few quirks like this on that screen :)

I need examples! I lack the capacity for abstract thought!!

Jonjo Shelvey for Swansea. Drops right back into defence to pick up the ball, follows it up into the final third.

Doesn't seem nearly as free i.e. lazy as a Regista (though I didn't use that much). Very few 'surging runs' from what I've seen.
