Jason the Yank
Good read and agree the players are pampered too much early doors and quite a few may not actually like football. Only part disagree with is Klinsmann. Klinsmann would be excellent for you lot. You should hire him straight away. Don't waste time with interviews. Boltman
I think an issue is, not just that we import players, but why do English players rarely go abroad, to top tier teams and develop their game?. Lack of Nandos in Spain/Italy/Germany and they all talk funny, innit? Oh, and Chantelle can't bear to be further than 30 mins drive from 'er maaaaaaaaaaaaaaam...... In essence, raving Chavdom. If the want to get at anyone, get at Roy.If Sterling had access to the family brain cell he might realise that not posting those type of images on social media would be a good idea, people in his position should be treating social media as a way to improve their image yet all too often they just make complete arses of themselves & then whine about people not liking them.If you do not want the general public to form an opinion on your personality or are deeply affected when people are negative towards you then do not put your personality on public display. Barry Cartman
I'm loving all these excuses as to what went wrong and how we need to fix them, especially all these comments from the likes of Carragher and Gerrard telling us the state of our mentality etc etc Wales are in the Q/F ffs

Razzler
That's not how it works though. Take a look at some examples who have such limits. You are right. A player at 19 who is local get the place in the starting team. He gets huge money. What is the incentive for him to improve. To earn 2 times more he will need huge amount of work and dedication. Is it worth it? The reality is that it's not. I gave you an example of Russia. There were so many young superstars in the last year, yet basically noone had any serious further development. Looks at Dzagoev or Kokorin. Especially, the latter. He is talented and if he does nothing to improve himself he still gets big payouts from transfer every few years. He had to improve massively to have a further step in the career which is not worth it with the limits in place, as his position of strength is not going to change. Or look at Arshavin. He was a great player who developed quite a bit, yet he had to have a pay cut I think just to move to the top level football. Player who were worse than him had the same pay level in Russia and they had no reason to improve. That's what happens with the foreign player limits. You will see more ENglish players in the squads obviously. You will see more younger players. You won't see more top class player, that would the opposite. It's not a simple solution with one wave of the wand. Less foreign players blocking spots is one part but that doesn't mean we'll suddenly have tons of English talent. We also need more coaches in the country, a lot more and make sure youth football down to schoolboy gives a path for talent to be noticed There will be a dip, any restriction would have to start gradual and then be increased as a big change would cause a chasm. Young players don't develop at the same age and in the same ways. There's no magic 'he's 18 and not good enough, he's out' as someone could not show their talent until 19 or 20 but they need a place to develop A player will come on leaps and bounds playing regular, top flight football and they have to do that. This is how you develop and how you learn and there will be mistakes. For some reason the 15m left back can make mistakes and it doesn't matter, he'll be back in the team the following week but no chance a young lad can make a mistake he's 'not ready' Young players need to be able to play without fear that average performance means they're not back again until the next League Cup game. They have to play with better players and against better players We have talented players from other parts of the world undergoing their football education in the Premier League but our guys have no clear path to the team. The 'cream rises to the top' reasoning is utter utter utter **** made by lazy people. To be a 'top' English talent now you don't just have to be good, or very good but you have to damn near great and once you hit the first team you better hit the damn ground running too. The more players we have the more competition for spots down the line and perhaps an eventual change in this attitude of players thinking they are special cause there's really only about 25 of them of half decent quality (we think) so they are elevated. Imagine if we had 4 or 5 times the amount of homegrown players, suddenly they are not some rare commodity that costs the world to buy and maybe more attention would need to be paid to ability and attitude towards the game
Razzler
The press definitely don't have an anti Sterling agenda We found our boo boy!! I was going to say, do people think any or all of the players will be getting booed come start of the season? I would have guessed Sterling but Hart, Harry Kane seemed to symbolise someone who worked his way to the very top only to totally bottle it when it mattered, is he still 'one of our own'? Maybe fans will just not be remotely arsed and not bother. Maybe not bother turning up for those early qualifiers either No doubt excited by the transfer window activity though

Gizmo7
Also I think that, as a country, we do have some pretty good English players. We're not in anywhere near as bad nick as the media/fans are making out, we have the quality to be making the Semi-Finals, but we were just atrociously coached, and the main guy to blame is Roy Hodgson. From the 23-man squad that he picked, to his making-it-up-as-you-go-along tactics, he was completely and utterly inept. Qualifiers? Great! he did brilliantly, no one is denying him that, played 10 won 10, well done Roy! We're sailing through to the Euros, we have decent players, playing good football and looking dangerous. Next up we play some of the big boys in friendlies - beat France 2-0 and beat Germany 3-2, come on! We're looking good, we're looking solid, we're looking professional, bring on the Euros! Squad selection time - erm... Roy? You've picked 2 wingers in the squad? Ah well, we're gonna be playing the diamond innit, we don't need wingers fam, LETS DO THIS! First game of the tournament vs. Russa - Oh, he's opted with a formation that involves wingers.... Balls. He really did shoot himself in the foot with his squad selection and team selections. The blame lies with Roy and all his backroom staff pals, including our national treasure and Sky Sports favourite Gary Neville. Not good enough. Wiggins Top Boys
Agree, Hodgson is to blame for the most part. you can't deny any of that, the players were talented enough to do better and were let down by the coaching at the end, but there is a more deeper problem.
Gizmo7
but there is a more deeper problem. Is there though? Are Spain talking about a "deeper problem" following their poor tournament? I think it's very English to dramatise these sort of things, when in reality if we'd had a good manager and a group of coaches who knew what they were doing, we'd have done alright this year. Weezer
We've had competent coaches in the past and still failed though. It's definitely a mentality thing. No idea how you go about fixing something like that though. No good training a group of players to have the best technical ability in the world if they're just going to crumble when teams like Russia and Iceland start attacking them. Hodgson should take the majority of the blame but the players were the ones out there, playing ****.
Razzler
I think there is an issue with coaching (how's St George's Park coming along??) in that we have very few vs active players and that needs to change. I thought we were changing it a decade ago. It's one of the few things the FA can do without Premier League club involvement. Got all this money in English football, use some of it to give our coaches a leg up and help them learn. As said though, we have had good coaches and strict managers with excellent records, hello Capello and they did the same, good qualifying and ... nuthin The players should be asking themselves some hard questions, I wonder how many are. It's mentality, attitude in general and to football. I get the feeling nearly every other damn European player I could sit and have a beer and have a good 'ol chat about the game, their opinions and all sorts. Do I think I can sit and discuss football in that same way with Joe Hart or Harry Kane or even Delle Alli? Nah We need to produce well rounded individuals, smart, well balanced kids before they get into football and earning all the money, etc.

pearcey_90
Witch hunt is strange because, 1) He didn't cost a goal 2) He only missed one 'clear cut chance' and that was on the stretch, on the bounce on the run. 3) His game involves around people offering movement which was non existent in the tournament 4) He went into the tournament on the back of coming back from an injury and dumped by Pellegrini so wasn't in form to start off with It's strange how the media are going after him just because he cost £49m last summer. Don't consider the context. There are worse performing players they could go after it they want a witch hunt.

Bliss Seeker
Oh wait a sec, it was his mum's house! Raheem Sterling is said to be “really upset” after The Sun branded a video of the England star showing people around his mum’s new house as “obscene”. Sterling returned home on Tuesday with the rest of the England squad following the Three Lions’ embarrassment at Euro 2016 and the tabloid is not ready to forgive the 21-year-old for his below-par performances. Their front page carried the headline ‘Obscene Raheem’ after a video emerged on social media of the Manchester City winger showing friends around a house, which was described as “flashing a show of wealth”. The Sun acknowledged in paragraph 39 that it the house was not thought to be Sterling’s, but it has since emerged that the home was bought by the 21-year-old for his mother. The coverage, understandably, has left Sterling angry. A friend of the former Liverpool star told Manchester Evening News: “Raheem and his family are really upset that the fact he’s bought a nice house for his mum is being used to hammer him by the media and make him the scapegoat for England’s failure. “He flew back from France into Luton with the rest of the squad and instead of going back to Manchester, he went to visit his mum who lives just outside London as he hadn’t seen her for a few weeks. “He bought her the house as a thank you for all her support and help. Now to have his mum’s private life and house being mocked and thrown into the public spotlight has left him furious and frustrated. “Raheem can take criticism of his performances for either Manchester City or England but not criticism of his family, especially his mum. “To say he doesn’t care about England going out of the Euros isn’t just wrong, it’s an insult.” Sterling was born in Jamaica before emigrating to London as a seven-year-old. His absent father was murdered back in Jamaica two years later. The youngster was signed by Liverpool from QPR as a schoolboy, before Manchester City paid £49million in 2015. Sterling’s lawyers are understood to be examining the footage, and its use, to see if they breach UK privacy laws. So not only did he not take the pictures, it was of a house he bought for his mother. Oh the Sun is a right little **** of a paper.
