Gizmo7
Really is lazy by Hodgson. Walcott hasn't play for Arsenal yet since his injury has he? Townsend? Lambert? Smalling? Carrick?
Anti Spiral
Walcott came on as sub in their last match and Wenger said he'd like him to play for England to "get more game time".
pearcey_90
Dyer played well all season, not called. Walcott 10 minutes, bam straight in. Kane impressed this season not in, Lambert splinters in his bum, bam straight in. Just so baffling this squad. Got to put up with another 18 months of Roy unfortunately though
Gizmo7
Stick Jamie Vardy in there and watch him terrorise the Slovenian defence I say.
aiston
Rickie Lambert, 0 goals in 11 appearances...good enough to get into the England team
given1legend
If Smalling was at a midtable side he would be no where near this squad. Just a prime example of yet another England manager favoring players from the big sides. Also points out how bad the future of English CBs are atm, as not many decent youth ones around at the top level that I can think of. Only really Stones looking good enough at the moment.
football_master_94
From a neutral p.o.v, it's brilliant to see Berahinho's finally gotten the callup he's deserved. Still see that Lambert's stealing a spot in the squad, though.

Butts
Only really Stones looking good enough at the moment. Dier might well make it to I think when played at centre-back.
football_master_94
No more so than Rooney. You're way off, there. Rooney is much more of an asset than a 32(?) year old who's a 3rd string striker at Liverpool and barely players. There is literally no reason for Lambert's constant inclusions. brett.spurs
As long as Townsend keeps performing for England then why shouldn't he be called up.
av3ry
Who do we have? Slovenia? That squad should easily beat them. Nice to see Berahino called up.
Heartwork
Apparently Saido's been in the pipeline for months but was kept out so the U21s could have the strongest possible squad for the playoff game. I suspect Roy'll do that for summer games too so the youngsters will be available for the U21 tournament (provided the clubs let them go). Surprised Burundi never approached him. skybluedave
What's more likely an England squad that everyone agrees with or world peace?
Gizmo7
Liam Moore is England's answer for a young centre half. Mark my words.
pago
As long as Townsend keeps performing for England then why shouldn't he be called up. because if he's not playing regularly for spurs then he isn't going to be properly match fit. same goes for lambert and anyone else who isn't a regular starter for their club. I don't actually know if townsend plays that regularly for spurs but i seem to remember him not playing much to start with and i guess that's why people dont think he should be in the national squad. i'm not sure if i agree with carrick/walcott being in there either if they are just using the england games as some form of match time to get fit for their clubs (assuming they only play vs scotland rather than slovenia). presumably both managers are happy with this but after the sturridge incident then i wouldnt be entirely comfortable. aggressive minor
No more so than Rooney. Lolz, as Rooney hate is so cool these days? Not comparable to Lambert at all, Rooney is streets ahead.
Noob21
Walcott came on as sub in their last match and Wenger said he'd like him to play for England to "get more game time". You know it's bad when the England team = Arsenal reserves
Razzler
Liam Moore is England's answer for a young centre half. Mark my words. Haven't Leicester dropped him recently? Shawcross burned from that Sweden game. Who's in the U21s, surely as valid an option as Smalling Where's Delph then, seems odd :/
aggressive minor
Delph injured.
pearcey_90
As long as Townsend keeps performing for England then why shouldn't he be called up. Why wasn't Ashley Cole called up for WC or now? Always performed for England. Hodgson has awful double standards.

brett.spurs
Why wasn't Ashley Cole called up for WC or now? Always performed for England. Hodgson has awful double standards. That's hardly the same is it, Cole is 33 and has had his career so it was time to move on. That said I would've taken him to the world cup.

Razzler
Delph injured. Ah right, thought it was harsh he not get in, Roy seems to like him too Milner absolutely deserves to be in there. Absolutely. Milner should be playing week in, week out for City and if not them then a top 4 or 5 team (no, not Southampton, MLG!)
adhikapp
But Milner hasn't been impressive enough for England. But then again, who has.
Razzler
He's never really been awful when he's played for England but in terms of place in the squad then he deserves it on merit, imo
Spacecowboy
Dunno if this has been discussed http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29969470 Is Roy having a laugh? The burden of being captain for your national team must be a killer Poor Rooney. The lad only gets £300k a week and we're asking him to be a man and lead his national team, whatever next
Razzler
It's all about reducing pressure on the player, not the first and won't be the last
Spacecowboy
Doesn't sit right with me I'm affraid. I personally thinks he's the best of a bad bunch for captancy but that should be enough for him think I need to step up to the mark and lead my national team.
Razzler
It's not come from Rooney, it's the manager trying to alleviate pressure knowing how the media are with top players
themadsheep2001
It's not come from Rooney, it's the manager trying to alleviate pressure knowing how the media are with top players Also loads of money doesn't change pressure either. Don't get why this is brought up every time. He's also not paid £300k a week by England (or on £300k a week for that matter)
Razzler
Think about the nurses and soliders and these players can't even score a penalty!!1!!
pago
some hodgson quotes re: townsend/Lambert being called up despite not playing much: "If I think I am still seeing enough of them at club level to believe that they are still going to be as good as they were when they came with us, I try to keep them on board, but you can't keep people on board forever. Andros and people like Rickie Lambert, they know that" "They realise, "I can't keep expecting to get a call-up when I'm not playing enough football." But at the moment with Andros and with Rickie, I don't think that moment has come where I shall be saying, "You're not playing enough games from the start, I'm not using you" because I still think when they come with us, they have got something to offer and they can make us better." So the players need to play. Unless Roy thinks it doesn't really matter as he will pick them anyway.
pearcey_90
So 182 minutes in 11 Prem games (Lambert) and 157 minutes in 11 Prem Games (Townsend) is an acceptable bench mark Wonder what the lowest limit can be.
brett.spurs
Must be 10 seeing as Theo got in.
Heartwork
Part of me thinks Roy hasn't called up some of the youngsters as he wants them to gain more international experience with the U21s where, let's face it, they have tougher opposition than what England has in the qualification group. That's why he left Saido out of the last set of games and maybe he wants people like Dier to prove themselves a little more for the U21s and their league clubs before calling them up? av3ry
What time does our game against Scotland kick off? One place I've seen 7 o'clock and another place 8 o'clock? 8 sounds more like it to me, 7 sounds far too early. Soccerway isnt that great when it comes to kickoff times.
