Poor from Shaw and Smalling

It was more Shaw to be fair. Saying that Enner Valencia actually does brilliantly because he pulls away to Shaw knowing there is mismatch there.

Deserved it more than Jones at CB. Neither are great choices tbf.

That's not saying much at all though. Both are a bit naff.

Luke Shaw looking every inch a £30m player here

Not to go all MLG but 17 mins into his first ever international start....

Would be nice if Barkley didn't try to take the entire team on like on the playground.
Wilshere and Barkley want to take everyone on, gonna knacker themselves at this rate.

Good from Barkley but had to pass it a split second earlier.

The goal was Shaw's fault.

It was a cross into the centre of the penalty area and their centre forward scored. Smalling's marking (as ever) was appalling and he was no-where near the striker and mis judged the flight of the ball, to blame Shaw for that goal is ridiculous.

Nathaniel Clyne must be puzzled sat at home watching Milner at right back and Johnson in the previous game. At least Clyne can control the ball, attack with pace and look a threat.

Barkley been very impressive as usual but needs to sort out his decision making.

Passes that 3 seconds earlier, Ox has an open shot from the angle.

To not blame him is ridiculous.

It's absolutely Shaw who should have done better.

Barkley, Ox, Sterling and Sturbridge with Wilshere and Henderson behind them in a 4-2-3-1.......sorted!

Shame we have a League 1 defence but hey ho!

The player was Smalling's to mark, Shaw just couldn't get across in time to cover Smalling's usual terrible marking. Smalling can't mark and can't judge the flight of a ball.

Oh right... My bad. :D

They fill me with fear those two but Jones is going to pull up injured anyway

Lampard's passes always require the receiver to have to get it under control first, which just slows play down and brings pressure on to the player with the ball.

Nope .

So you think when a cross comes into the centre of the goal in the air it is the job of the left back to mark the centre forward? What should the 6 foot 4 centre back be doing whilst the centre forward is being marked by the left back?

Shaw should have been able to rely on Smalling to mark the centre forward and he could cover any player attacking down England's left if the cross went long.

I would actually agree with MLG, it wasn't a back of the box cross that you'd expect to see the fullback win it it was a central ball in that both centrebacks completely missed with poor marking and positioning.

Ox really stamping a claim to start in Manus. Got to be in team over Welbeck surely? Rooney possibly on left Lallana middle behind Sturridge?

Smalling & Jones look absolutely shocking in the centre of defence.
