Lalas spot on here:

Alexi Lalas @AlexiLalas

Again, life isn't fair and soccer isn't fair. A WC roster isn't about form, merit or history. It's simply a coach's preference.

Alexi Lalas is talking out his ass, like usual. The World Cup roster is all about form, and Donovan hasn't been in form for quite a while.

Depends on the national team, and depends on which form (club or national team) you are referring to.

If you mean club form, then half of Brazil's starters shouldn't even be in the World Cup.

So while what he said might not apply regarding the USMNT, it certainly does apply regarding Brazil.

I was talking specifically about the USMNT, as was Lalas (since he's even less qualified to talk about other countries' players than he is about America's).

But that's Klinsmann. The dude that dropped Kahn for Lehmann. Surely he merits a place even if he's not doing well? He's friggin Donovan. He's their best striker anyway, surely?

Edit: And if Lalas mentioned something about form, than 1 goal all season for Altidore is good enough?

No wonder Jozy was crap all season. Must have been told his WC place was never in doubt regardless of form :D Sunderland/Poyet will be delighted as it potentially raises his stock so they can get back some of the money they wasted on that lump.

It seems many complaints that all 'Germans' remain in the squad while Landon Donovan is not there.

Especially Jermaine Jones who thinks he is the leader of this German group isn't very popular.

Altidore going ahead of Donovan :D I'm sorry, regardless of how bad Donovan has been, he's surely not as bad as Jozy
Altidore isn't going ahead of Donovan; he's going ahead of Eddie Johnson and Terrence Boyd, who have been even worse than Altidore at their clubs.

I wish people would stop comparing Altidore and Donovan. They're completely different players who play different positions. If you're going to complain about Donovan being left off the roster, it should be because Julian Green (an 18-year-old with one cap and a grand total of ten minutes played in the first team at club level) was picked ahead of him.

What's all this whining about Altidore anyway? He did great in the Dutch league. Looks to me like he made the classic mistake of moving to a more money than brains team in 'the best league in the world', thinking it would be a step up.

Terrence Boyd got 20 goals in Austria, so no, he wasn't. Say what you will about the league but he was lighting it up.

A lot has been said that it's more of a temperment thing; Landon was quite happy being a super sub and Klinsmann wanted to see more fire. Though him being very obviously overweight didn't help matters.

Say what you will about a Wondolowski or a Brad Davis, they're surely going to play harder than they ever have before for their first (and last) world cup.

I'm not gonna question Del Bosque's wisdom but it does really look odd that the 3 strikers they're bringing is 1 guy who hasn't played well in 4 years, 1 guy whose ability has dropped massively with age and injury the past 2 years, and one guy who's currently injured and looks doubtful for at least the first games.... and Negredo stays at home.

They might as well play without strikers anyway. :D
