[FM14] "Nature Vs. Nurture" - an experiment in Time and Physics

Recommended Posts

Just a quick "holiday manager" experiment to see if world-class talent remains world-class if they start from terribly humble beginnings.

What you need to do for this experiment...

1. Select a current "world-class" player (No, you can't all be Messi) from a top-level league (i.e. EPL, Bundesliga, etc.)

2. Select an obscure backwater nation for this player (No, San Marino is NOT obscure, I'm thinking Tahiti, Andorra, Tonga...wait a minute, San Marino's in next-to-last place in the FIFA rankings:http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/rankingtable/)

3. Post here the name of the player, the team they currently play for in the default database (because there are sometimes more than one player with the same name), and the country they will now call "home". For the basis of this experiment, only one player may be selected from each team (to keep from stripping Barcelona and Man Utd bare).

Player Name:

Current Team (& League):

Tiny insignificant football nation:

Each of these selected players will have their year of birth changed to 1997.

They will be set to Free Agent status.

Their newly-acquired nations players will be loaded into the database.

They will be placed in their appropriate national team selection pool.

Their "current ability" score will be wiped-out/randomized, their "Potential ability" will remain undisturbed.

Because a world-class player will mysteriously disappear from several high-level clubs, I would expect some minor perturbations in league results, but hey, they'll have all those millions of dollars to snatch up someone else. They'll be fine, I assure you.

So, anyway, the game will be simmed probably for 6 months at a stretch, and any newsworthy items about these players will be linked/posted. Yearly summaries of league results/national and international competitions will also be reviewed. And I'll just run it until the players retire or it becomes apparent that no one found them where they were hiding.

Honestly, I don't know how this will work, but it will certainly be fun to watch.

For ease in posting results, I'd like to keep this to about 12-15 sign-ups.

Don't forget, only one player can be selected from a particular team, so review previous posts to avoid duplication.

Thanks!

- Lionel Messi

- Barcelona - La Liga

- Turks and Caicos Islands

Let it be noted, Messi and Turks and Caicos...first off the board. (I was hoping for that combination...)

Okay, that's 15, let's close it down so I can start the database and get us on our way.

Got them all hopefully edited in a database (and learned a lot about obscure geography), but leaving for work soon so it'll be tomorrow before the first update.

For ease of play, all players did receive English and either their country's native language or a similar major language (Spanish, French, Arabic, etc.) And I did wipe out all their favorite personnel/clubs/etc., and obviously their international records.

For the experiment, I will take a screen shot of each player at the beginning (so you can see them all in their 16-year-old untapped-potential glory), I will subscribe to each player's news, and let it run 6 months and check in on their status, then another 6 months. Screenshots of significant importance both individually and internationally will be posted at each break. And...we'll see what develops...(They'll probably all end up at Arsenal on the reserves...)

After the first 6 months, we have some players who haven't found a club...

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221320871

Ronaldinho's agent buys a 5% stake in his client for $325,000: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221320714

Falcao becomes youngest scorer ever for Celta: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221320835

and yes, I realize that somehow I missed a screenshot of Rooney's baby picture, I'll snap one 6 months in when I log back in. He hasn't DONE anything yet, so his attributes should be similar.

Should of deleted the player caps aswell:)

I don't know where those are coming from - I went through all the player screens and deleted out all the caps, but a couple players are still showing caps.

when you get through a year or so, showing their national teams progress will be interesting too!

here's that tardy Rooney profile pic: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221546819

who's got some value after a year: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221546844

and their club appearances: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221546869

Falcao just can't seem to put one in: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221546911

Ibrahimovic should probably be dropped by Samoa, they say: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221546999

This Suarez guy might be something special...someday soon: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221547027

Lampard's one heck of a Mongol, and attracting Man U interest: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221547079

Ronaldinho's doing well for Tajikistan: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221547133

I think the reason some of the player's haven't signed is perhaps they're restricted from signing until a certain age - I noticed on the upcoming profiles that some have signed but can't join their team until July 2015. And some...allegedly have attracted interest, but just haven't been signed.

Falcao with a bright start and then he can't hit a cows a*se with a banjo.

Hope he gets his act together. I saw that he has a lot of appearances as a sub, and if he comes on in the last minute it will be hard to make an impact.

Come on, Falcao, Djiboutian football relies on you now. (So does Colombia IRL, http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20140124/colombia-president-radamel-falcao-acl.ap/ :D)

Really surprised that two players have thrown in the towel already. I really expected more from them, but evidently they had a bad review from the scouts.
