Well, that was well worth the wait darth. Even when we disagreed on pretty much everything to with the depth of motivation when you first posted, the debate was always excellent. Particularly interested now to hear what you consider issues when you get time

Looking forward to another "debate" in the not-too-distant future, mate ;) Give it time, I'm sure there is something.

While we're on the subject of "issues," for those of us who have joined this discussion late and don't feel like trudging through 50 pages of feedback, would it be possible to get a list of any unequivocally known bugs? Not the complainy-wainey-subjective type. I'll start us off:

1. Full Backs getting low ratings

2. Goalkeeper not distributing the ball to the specified target. I can get him to play it short using the "Distribute to Defenders" and "Pass it Shorter" commands. However I'm having difficulty specifically picking out my Half-Back or Regista who is in position to receive it unmarked. The defensive midfield "quarterback" is pivotal to the way I play and it would be great to be able to pick him out straight from the goalie.

3. Insanely low setpiece accuracies - pointless trying direct free kicks. Entire premier league scored on average 2 direct free kicks per season up to 2020. Balotelli first season missed 4 out of 10 penalty kicks taken.

That's a nonsense argument.

Cristiano Ronaldo spent 7 years in the Premier League and scored 11 free kicks. Thierry Henry took 9 years to score the same amount.

Direct freekick goals are much, much less frequent than people think they are.

Link to post

No, no. What I meant is out of the entire premier league, there were on average 2 direct free kicks scored per year. Out of 20 teams.

Each team is scoring 0.1 direct free kick/year.

Add that to a player like Balotelli, failing to score 30% of his penalty kicks. (ref: he has 20 penalty, 18 finishing, 17 composure)

You are so wrong my friend. So what am I, better than 500 testers, if every year I turn on the game, dont try looking for bugs at all - but see them anyway, then come to this and other forums and see exactly the same bugs adressed by hundreds of others... Am I a super tester or what? Do I, or the rest of the public, have different eyes than tester or what?

Mate, I'm not talking about the problems/bugs that aren't visible at first and need a lot of people to play the game to discover it. Im talking about obvious things that everyone who turns on the game can see, where there is not doubt that you can say THIS IS THE BUG. Match Ratings for example. You see this thing straight away. No doubt whatsoever that something is wrong, no chance that 1 machine has good match ratings, especially full backs.

So tell me, how did this go past testers? I don't think it did, because they'd be blind if it did, I just feel that every year the game is somehow rushed, and that SI is in a rush to release it while they know themselves that there are thousands of holes yet to be patched.

The great number of bugs that get fixed with every patch shows just how far from the right thing SI is when it first releases the game. So why not postpone it for a month?

I am a professional software tester (though not for video games) and believe me, he isn't wrong.

The fact that all issues raised so far have been of a rather low and not of the higher severity i.e. crashing to desktop or physically stopping you being able to contiune your game by freezing etc suggests the QA team employed by SI do a pretty incredible job (especially when you consider the amount of combinations involved in a complex piece of software like this).

Keep up the good work Neill et al.

This is such an important point. FM is not your ordinary game. In FM if a statistical outcome deviates from real life numbers it's deemed a major bug, a showstopper. And I understand this viewpoint as well because realism is what the success of this game has always relied on. But people do not appreciate what kind of attention to detail this demands from the developers. The common line that no other big game ships with major bugs like FM is absolutely laughable. In most other games a major bug entails the game being LITERALLY unplayable. FM is apparently unplayable if full backs struggle with defending a bit.

Note, the above doesn't excuse the lower league contract issue and the Swedish league stuff though. SI fully deserve a :herman: for those.

question.

I found a player I wish to buy, I match the minimum fee release clause and bid gets refused, is this normal?

No, that would be a bug - unless it is a specific minimum fee release clause (domestic or foreign teams only) which doesn't apply to you.

I think GTA V was a wonderful example of how messed up a game can be when being released. And that's coming from a company that invested €250 million in the game. XBox users all over the world were unable to play GTA V

online for about a month.

FM issues aren't comparible at all.

Tbf to rockstar, those xbox user weren't able to play because online wasn't switched on. When it was switched on it had problems but, again, it's to be expected.

Not that I’m trying to start an argument Schotsmannetje.

And to the other guys on here who are experiencing problems, I used to be one of the guys who shouted about gaming breaking bugs like super keepers etc until i realised that (helmets on gentlemen) it was 99.9% my tactics. Being pointed towards the tactics forum and reading the obscene amount of information not only helped me understand why my football was gash but it also allowed me to get so much more enjoyment out of the game. If you love the tactical side of football (and I assume you do otherwise why would you be throwing down 30 quid a year for a football sim) then you should jump on over. The guys know their shiz, they're always ready to help and there is a constant supply of discussions around tactics and implementing real life ideas into FM.

Now, I know that the match ratings issue isn't tactical (or maybe it is as some/majority of players don't seem to be getting it) but, like I said in the previous post, bugs will always exist. Getting rid of the major ones is and should always be the priority.

Don't want to sound like everyone else stating they've played the game since the dawn of time but this has been the first release that I feel is entirely unenjoyable to play as well. Don't get why that's such a contentious opinion because it is merely an opinion. The numerous flaws in the main part of the game; the ME, means I have no interest in playing till it's patched which it hasn't been for ages now. When it's patched I'm sure the game will be great and I don't regret purchasing it but until the ME and transfer fees for players are fixed I won't play it. Cost of releasing this game earlier this year I think.

Generally loving the game so far. It's my first FM since 2011 so there are lots of new things to get used to but it's still good fun.

I do have a question about Ass Man feedback during the game though. He will tell me that a player has picked up a knock "but should be able to shake it off." A minute later he'll tell me the same player "is looking exhausted and we should think about subbing him." Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a bug? It happens a lot, pretty much every game from what I've noticed. The messages come within a couple of minutes of each other so they are definitely related.

You haven't noticed that the defense drops too deep too early and that closing down is being done at walking pace? That full backs leave their position to close down a winger and the rest of the defense remains around the penalty mark, and no midfielder helps him either? Come on! How can you not notice that every damn player on the pitch is positioned wrong during wide play?

The new Xbox itsself is even worse. Half the new features on the thing wont work fully on release date, and thats a multi billion pound company, who cannot get something right for release day.

But this does ask the question - if the company is consistently unable to release the product without certain extremely widely experienced issues year after year, perhaps the annual iteration of the ME needs to be looked at - is it a priority? For an annual release product, much of the rest of the evolution of which is database related or presentation issues, to ship every year with the ME 'unfinished' or at least inadequately tested is starting to leave a little sour taste in the mouth, and undermines the otherwise excellent consumer support work the company does.

Spot on. I honestly think that SI themselves would prefer to release each ME version as and when it is fully ready rather than having the pressure of releasing a new version same time every year.

Yeah I read somewhere that here in The Netherlands the presales for the PS4 are going through the roof (the first generation is already sold out times God knows how much), while the presales for the new Xbox are dramatically low compared to PS4. Even though the Xbox 360 was (as far as I know, I'm purely judging by personal expercience with friends/family) more popular than the PS3 here because of the lower price. But the low presales for the new Xbox were indeed to be expected after all the horrible news about the new Xbox.

I find it amazing how a big company like Microsoft can have such an appalling PR. The release of the new Xbox is basically a bad news show (do they say that in English as well?).

But enough early morning offtopic chatter from me haha.

It can also be the opposite a current tactic that is good might not work when the new patch is out so if I were you I'd get to the end of your season asap and then stop until the patch is out as that will give you the pre season to find out whether your current tactic is going to work as you want it.

I know! I feel that I have a pretty balanced tactic, but it is certainly my shadow striker operating from midfield who is supposed to finish off my chances. I can't get my forward to score with an "attacking" setting, but considering it is Johan Elmander, 34 yrs old, 8 in pace and way over the top, that might be it :)

Link to post

If the tactic is balanced well and doesn't rely on minimal types of chances/play to be successful, it's very unlikely to need anything more than minor tweaks when a new patch is released.

The thing I'd look out for when tweaking after the patch is the defensive line, I reckon.

I saw him play for Feyenoord when he was a young lad. Scored a nice goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Was quite lightfooted back then. Saw him play against Portugal this week. That bloke has been to the gym since playing for Feyenoord, let me tell ya.

I would argue that the game is ready.

None of the bugs mentioned above are of a high severity. Some people are expierencing problems with match ratings or defenders sitting too deep. These issues are hardly big enough to stop the release of a product. They maybe would be if it happened to all 30,000 registered players but they're not.

I'll second that, and loving it! It's kinda like a Kevin Davies transformation, going from a poacher (and not a good one at that), to become a hard-working target man, really hassling the defence.

I think that, at least in this version, it's difficult to get a poacher working, unless you have a world class striker (maybe I've just failed in instructions). I've always enjoyed having one, but for a team like U. Berlin, or any team not full of world class players its really important to have a striker that can put down the miles, take the physical fight to the defenders, letting the "specialists" behind him work the goals! My shadow striker is has scored 15 goals or something in 20 games so clearly Elmander is doing something right!

This thread is huge so I really don't fancy trolling through the whole thing to find posts about the amount of chances missed and wood work hit, as I'm sure there has been plenty of complaints about it. So, I was wondering if it's been addressed, and is there an upcoming fix planned for it? I mean it's got to the point where I don't want to play the game anymore until it starts to resemble something a bit more realistic and not me hitting the post 18 times in 16 games (and that's nothing compared to last season) whilst creating an unrealistic amount of very good chances that are constantly missed by top quality players.

No, but as one of the major problems in this version is a defensive line that seems to sit too deep, I'd expect that to be one of the things that gets looked at - and if it gets changed, the defensive line is quite an important thing to get tactically right.

What I said stands true for every recent match engine update, going back a few years now. There hasn't been a release that's caused properly balanced tactics to completely stop working.

A lot of people complaining about the high amount of shots and low scores but TBH I've tweaked my tactics and this has disappeared, now getting 13-17 shots at goal, 6-8 on target, CCC's 2-3 which is more realistic, people need to look at tactics and stop complaining about not scoring etc.

Try right clicking the game in your library > properties > local files > verify game cache.

Yeah tried that many time but too no avail. Plenty of disk space, using win 8, deleted previous attempt and tried to re download works fine until 58% reached and then flow of data stops.

Tried downloading on another machine laptop with win 8 and works fine how strange. Guess football 2014 is not for me, 2013 works fine ?

Like wise. However my results were arguably better when I had 30+ shots from all over the place and fewer CCC's.

Will stick with the more realistic version though.

Hiring even 500 testers can simply not compete with an average of over 30,000 people playing the game every hour of every day after release. Regardless of when the game is released, the public will find problems. That's just how it is and will always be.

You know you can "hire" 30k of us for free right? :) Or bettter yet, start releasing a beta demo 1 month before release like you used to do years ago.

No disrespect to SI. They have done a good (maybe even great) job with FM 14. However, this is a feedback thread and I think it is normal to have opinions that are more negative than positive in such a thread. I don't know why this would be a surprise to anyone. The positive feedback is when people buy the game and how long they spend playing it, the negative is contained in this area.

To be very specific for a second, I can understand, for example, why ratings might not be perfect on release and might need a future update. But why in the world would a goalkeeper not follow basic tactical instructions on release day? I agree that the game is not unplayable, but obviously it isn't as good as it could be. By the way, the standard of a good game is never whether or not one is able to hit 'Continue' without crashing the game. Anyway, I can tolerate the bugs because I know SI is working to improve the game, it's just hard to understand from the user end how certain bugs would make it to release. Overall, I would play FM 14 if I had to because it is a solid game. Anyone who plays the full game or demo and looks at the FM package as a whole can see that it is good. Luckily, I have FM 12 and I am willing to wait until March to switch because I know how good FM 14 is supposed to be. And that brings me to SI's patching policy, which I have noticed a lot of rants about lately.

I am not arguing against's SI current model to release multiple updates post-release. SI can do what they think is best because the end result is a great game that many people buy. It would just be plain wrong to say that FM 14 is not a good game, even in its current state. However, one cannot criticize people when they fail to understand why SI doesn't consider another model that is more consistent with the user-end experience. In my personal opinion, now would be the time when SI would be working exclusively on features for FM 15 rather than fixing stuff for FM 14. Instead of updating the game from October to March, why not update it from August to October? Before release. My personal preference is to get fewer new features that work well out of the box, than more new features that need fixing out of the box. I understand that FM is a complex entity. In fact, I am surprised that some users are not more cognizant of the fact that SI moved from an ME in FM 12 that simulated in "sped-up" version of football, to an ME in FM 13-14 that now simulates every minute in real-time. With that massive advancement, every facet of the ME comes under scrutiny like never before. The ME is now asked to perform in 90 full minutes.

However, SI is committed (whether by choice or by contract) to release this entity on a yearly basis, and there is no reason why SI cannot commit to get the bugs fixed before release on a yearly basis as well...unless SI makes a conscious decision to do otherwise. Yes, this thread is about feedback for the actual game, but when users are dissatisfied, then SI's decisions, including decisions about game production, come under scrutiny. No surprise there. At least I can say kudos to SI for being willing to express how they feel about their policy and they are clearly okay with it.

One more thing. I am not trying to tell mods or SI how to do their job, nor am I here to criticize the job that has been done so far. But I do understand where others are coming from even if they are not articulate in revealing their frustrations. It doesn't mean all the criticism is warranted or valid, but I do think it is fair game to share your view on something you paid for when SI is giving you a space to do so, obviously within the guidelines of rules that mods and SI are enforcing. I have read this thread for weeks and seen some vitriol throughout accompanied by quite a bit of disrespect, which sometimes forces mods and SI to be very direct. But I have yet to read one post in which the user did not care about the state of the game, whether the feedback was positive or negative. I have learned a lot about FM 14 from negative feedback posts, so I would hate to see this thread become a place where only powder-puff, positive comments will be allowed because people don't know how to communicate respectfully and consequently get their posts deleted. So I hope the valid opinions of all can be shared with an air of tolerance for others. In my ideal world, all the users would understand that their feedback is important, but not more important than other users' feedback. I will certainly continue to read each post with patience, giving each post the benefit of the doubt as much as possible, seeking to understand even when I do not agree or--in some cases--to accept even when I do not understand, remembering that it is possible to be honest without being disrespectful, and putting myself in the other person's shoes before replying, while letting the mods do their job.

7.Goalie's wandering out of their box with the ball then either getting booked or sent off.

8. Far too many goals being scored in leagues played in full detail.

9. Too few goals being scored in leagues not on full detail.

10.

I have a funny thing going on in my save: after half-time ( usually but not exclusively ) the game is like being played in highlight mode for a few in-game minutes. Goals are scored and i am not even aware until after checking the score bar. Recently i had a match where i was leading 2-0 in half time. After pressing the space bar, bam, i am instantly 50minute and the scoreline is 2-2

Has this kind of behavior been noticed by anyone else? Should i consider it a bug?

4. Attacking players constantly playing the ball out for a goal kick It seems the decision-making as to when to try to play the ball off a defender for a corner is completly off. As is the actual execution. They outright miss the defender 9 times out of 10, it looks ridiculous.

I've seen a few people mention this, and IIRC, SI are looking into it, but does it actually happen that often? I say that because in over 300 hours playing this, I have yet to see this happening.

The rest of your post pretty much reads like this thread's 'greatest hits' compilation. The ME is ready now, and all those issues have been reported, so I'd assume that in the main, they're fixed.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but it sounds very wrong!

Please upload a .pkm from the affected game to the ME Bugs forum:

Then that is definitely a problem, then.

You'd need more/longer stats than that to show a penalty problem. It's a classic example, but Martin Palermo managed to miss three penalties in one match.

I'm not sure about penalties, but free kicks goal ratio is extremely poor. Andrea Pirlo is a specialist of free kicks, however in 2 seasons he scored 1 goal from a straight free kick in my save. In total, I witnessed 2 goals from straight free kicks so far.
