I have been following this thread for some time and thought it was about time I through my 2 pence worth in...

Firstly, the new game looks a lot smoother, the game runs nicely and seems a lot more 'polished'. I love the new contract/transfer negotiation options, plus the job interviews for new positions. I also think the player interaction is a lot better, asking players to change agents and asking your captain to help increase motivation adds to the realism of the game.

Although when I was messing round and took over Sunderland (as a test game) who were bottom of the league by 15 points, I suggested to the team we could fit and stay in the division. This was on December 22nd, nearly half way through the season. The players for some reason responded by saying I was showing a lack of ambition and we should be finishing mid table....15 points adrift of safety, 2 wins all season....really? This does seem a bit of an issue?

I agree with the ratings off full backs and the excessive amount of shots, although I only played 2/3 games so cannot comment on this too much. I played one game against Aston Ville and it finished 0-0 despite them having 17 shots on target and me having 12. I accept a game could finish 0-0, but it just seemed like an awful lot of shots for a Premier League match. The following game again Liverpool at Anfield finished 1-1, again with an excessive amount of shots being had by both sides.

The game play however seemed smoother, better quality football was being played and my centre backs were no longer launching the ball 40 yards for no apparent reason despite having all the time in the world, my strikers made runs into space and my wingers actually beat a man on the outside and whipped crosses in which was nice to see. I do agree with other posts though, there does seem to be a few occasions when my defenders just ran away from their players leaving them to walk the length of the pitch and shoot despite being instructed to close down opponents and tight mark.

Transfer wise was my biggest issue, as others have stated bids from the AI seemed extremely low, Adam Johnson for example got a bid from Leeds of 250k which seems frankly appalling, John O'shea also had a bid of 100K from Burnley which again seemed very low for a premier league experiences centre back, irrelevant of his age or recent performances.

That's all for now, overall I really like the look of it but based on a few of the issues raised, especially with the transfer bugs, I will probably wait to start any new games before a new patch is released.

Have a question regarding Tactics Familiarity, I assume the familiarity will drop if you sign a lot of players in a transfer window. However why would it drop if you are signing youth players that will never play in your first eleven. It doesn't seems right that your tactics familiarity will drop even when you are not changing your first eleven.

It doesn't seems right that your tactics familiarity will drop even when you are not changing your first eleven.

You can train your youth teams to play the same tactic as your first team, so I would assume that by doing so when they move into your first team your 'familiarity' will remain about the same? Otherwise surely this option is pointless?

AI vs tactics no idea but I do know that if your tactics look faulty use the analysis, OK so I’m Luton I won promotion last year and I have won the division two title by a fair way this season, 96 goals for and 36 against, tidy attacking and defending, yet in my last 14 games I’ve won only three and drawn 11 so here is my analysis of those last 14 games.

Possession 58.14 over the 14 games, fairly dominant I would say but as you can see I’ve only managed 23 goals for and 17 against, However, I’m getting in twice as many shots, 79 of the 236 were long despite my instructions not to shoot long but in fairness it’s not much different from the teams I’ve faced, 2.98 per game as opposed to 2.66 per game. My on target ratio is 7.21 against 4.21, off target its 7.14 against 3.35, Blocked its 2.35 against 1.14, Hit the woodwork 0.92 against 0.78, all pretty much what you would expect as I’m getting off twice as many shots. CCCs now here is the rub 1.28 against 1.21, half chances a different story 3.14 against 1.64, getting on for twice as many, then there is shots saved 5.64 against 3.21. So in reality I’m dominating every game except in regards CCC, to me that doesn’t make sense, my keeper and defence are good they must be the opposition is not getting that many chances, my attackers must be good I’ve won the league and I’m not just getting shots away I’m making the opposition GKs work hard every game, so all you folks who say the answer is in the analysis pick that one apart.

Ok I've played Beta for 1.5 seasons with Man United and Full version across half a season updating intermittently to new patches.

Fullbacks - Same complaint. I've noticed my entire defence is prone to making sliding challenges in useless positions. Also keeper rushing out but then De Gea so I don't blame SI.

English players are impossible. I could have bought James Ward Prowse for 26 Mill, Ross Barkley for 24 Mill. But instead I bought Lucas Romero from Argentina for 5. I could've bought Luke Shaw for 16 Mill but instead I bought Balanta for 6. My suggestion would be either to make Scouting harder, or go for more agent buys. I noticed buying Brazilian talent is hard given agent ownership and that accurately reflects reality too.

Chelsea's youth team - Still overpowered, I consider myself an informed footie fan but surely Musonda, Boga, etc etc are not that superior

Too many set piece goals - In my Beta, Chris Smalling was second for PL top scorers. In Full version WITHOUT any specific routine, Vidic is scoring 3-4 goals a month. Also, I concede at the near post from a corner all the time. I have men on the post, I mark the 6 yard box, I bring everyone behind, but can't help it.

Assistant Managers and Directors of Football are poor - I've tried Round, Tassotti, Demichelis, Meulensteen for AssMan and Corvino, Kershaw, Beenhakker for DoF. AssMans always don't care for Scouting Reports. Round only prepares Attacking Set Pieces. Their individual training ideas are absurd at times.

DoF's agreed a deal for 16 mill for Julian Brandt. I mean he's worth 1.1. I manage to sell Anderson for 11.25-11.5 while my DoF can't sell him for 5. Though I must say they are better than getting contract extensions sorted than me.

Away games are too unrealistic, fair enough blame tactics but in the middle of summer against a team languishing 20th in the table, its very irritating to see them score like this - Winger stretches games, fullback just watches him glide past or does nothing to stop cross. Striker runs at near post, central defenders, who are instructed to drop deeper, are almost at edge of box leading to free point blank header into near side of goal. When my striker gets a header at near post he heads it dead centre of goal into the goalkeeper.

Just want to say that in my Man Utd save Ive had some of the same issues with the ass man and DoF, Tassoti only ever uses def positioning no matter what the scouts recommend. I would like to disagree with cynathor on one issue though, Dea Gea is awesome and it must be SI to blame :D

Basically teams have caught onto your tactics (one of the major improvements in this years ME) and have come up with a good way to counter you, most likely parking the bus with lots of bodies back making it harder for your team to create clear chances. You could fire 100 weak efforts at the keeper and get no where all game, making one good chance is a better way of thinking about it.

Well one of the improvements this year was the AI's ability to counter your tactics.

Tactical overhaul

There has been a complete redesign of how tactics are created, selected and implemented with player roles and team strategies becoming even more prominent, definable roles for players for multiple positions, new player roles and instructions and improvements to rival managers' AI so that they’ll adapt their tactics more readily over time.

So its possible the AI has adapted better than it used to be able too, especially if playing a team for the second or third time in a season.

Don't think so, firstly I made sure I didn't just use the same tactics every game, besides in real football, while small adjustments go on all the time, teams don't just swap complete tactics on a game to game basis just in case the opposition picks a counter tactic you have to trust your teams ability. Secondly whether or not the opposition knows how you play it won’t make your players shoot weakly and parking the bus or not my team is making the opposition GKs make a lot of saves. Thirdly several of those games were against much weaker opposition, teams that I should beat 9 times out of ten without having to make adjustments to my tactics.

Yeah it def wont be a case of the AI being anywhere near as smart as us, but from my playing its clear the AI does catch onto things, i've already exerienced it in a few games, not to a massive degree, but ive seen the AI go 2 down in the first 20 minutes, make subs, tactical changes and then beat me 3-2, something i had never seen in previous games.

I might add to that, if you change tactics too often your team won’t familiarise themselves with the way you want them to play, so that would make it harder to win games, there has to be a balance, tactical familiarisation with the opposition is an advantage but your players must still out skill the opposition. Now patently from the figures I gave, my side is dominating, in real life while that might come unstuck occasionally, over an extended period dominating the match play will win far more games than not.

Indeed. When they can't even get basic things like throw-ins, transfer offers, contract demands in lower leagues and (shock horror) successfully keeping track of the score right, it's quite a leap to assume the AI is capable of dissecting your tactic at a micro level and putting a fool-proof counter-plan into action.

And if it is, it should be only some opposition managers that do that - if you're up against managers such as Wenger or Holloway, who don't focus at all on what the opposition is going to do, they shouldn't have the benefit of some global AI counter-measure that all the CPU managers are somehow privy to.

I just noticed that my game shows dollar signs rather than pound signs. i went into preferences to double check and it says pounds.

how can i fix this?

People often make the mistake of continually changing tactics when it's going wrong. If you have a tactic the players are comfortable with, it's a far better idea to tweak some of the team/player/strategy settings within that said tactic, rather than just changing the tactic altogether.

And, just as in real football, your players can just simply have an off day, no matter what you do.

I am doing very poorly, struggling tactically with both PSG & Shakhtar, but this version more than any before is pushing my to evolve and adapt.

I'm looking at more than just the match engine highlights but the analysis tab etc to try and soak in information about my team I never used to bother looking at. I suggest those struggling take a step back and realise that just like football in the real world, the game is evolving and we must evolve with it.

I just hope I can get a handle before I'm shown the door! :)

Sorry that's just rubbish, firstly it patently was not a rant and by suggesting it was suggests you lack an answer. Secondly its not nonsense I've followed football as long as I can remember, some 40+ years so I think I have some idea, besides if I’m so naive how come I’ve won back to back titles in the game. Now of course weaker teams do beat the big clubs, sometimes through a tactical plan, sometimes by sheer endeavor and sometimes by luck, but if you look long term the big teams win against lesser opponents through having better players and not some tactical master plan. If let’s say Crystal Palace are about to play Man C it may well be an idea for them to come up with a cunning plan, however I doubt whether Man C lose much sleep, they expect to turn up and play in their usual way, maybe with some minor adjustments and win, occasionally that is a mistake but not often.

Good game in general but there are some issues with the ME that need to be fixed ASAP.

1-The high number of chances (both simple and clear cut) are not representative to the final score line most of the times. This, ofcourse can happen and should happen (as irl football) just not that often. Especially when a weaker team seem to need only 5-6 chances to score a goal. Again, this can and should happen but not that often.

2-The issue with the full/wing backs must be dealt with asap. A simple pass from the middle (in which you can see it coming for like 5 seconds) and the winger just outruns the full back almost all the time. The full back just stops and looks, the majority of goals scored by the AI is like this. Adding salt to the wound, the DC almost never comes for help regardless of his individual instructions.

Therein lies the key. You'll be amazed at the difference a subtle change makes to a game. Real life managers do it all the time. Wenger, in particular, is a master at it.

Therein lies the key. You'll be amazed at the difference a subtle change makes to a game. Real life managers do it all the time. Wenger, in particular, is a master at it.
And that's what I try and do which is why I dominated almost all of those matches, if I had had my tactics rumbled I would expect to see my team become less dominant in other areas of the pitch not just become unable to put the ball in the net or the beat opposition keeper which in fact is the only real change from the matches that I was winning earlier in the season.

Not necessarily, you dont need to beat every aspect of a tactic to beat another team, the AI seems to be parking the bus and your yet to find a good way to break that down, it doesnt mean your entire tactic has been rumbled.

Just thought I'd put my thoughts in and see if anyone has come across the same issues, my two main one's are for some reason I am getting a lot of Premier League matches moved to Monday night's, I understand it might get moved for television coverage but it just seem's to be happening more and more.

The second thing I've noticed is my wingers (no matter how much I tweak) are just not crossing into the box, they constantly pull back instead of crossing it into the box, I've tried to adjust my wingers and my forwards but they still dont seem to want to cross it in.

I'm dominaing possession in most games but often struggle to score. The reason...long shots. Probalby atleast half of my shots (i usually get more than 20 in a game) are terribly timed long shots. I have my team set on 'work ball into box' and for the players where the option is available i have take less long shots selected. Is there any other way i can reduce the long shots? It's doing my head in and i'm really starting to get annoyed by it

Hey i am super new to forums,

I have played FM since 08 and of course over the years become very found of the games. As a gamer in ranges I make sure I find the time for FM and have done over the years.

I found FM13 a challenge, but one that i overcome with practice and began to eagerly await the next instalment. I have never tried a demo, but seeing as I am low on funds at the moment, I thought it could be the next best thing till a cash camel came in. I proceeded to play the demo and as a avid Arsenal fan, i started as them. I tweeked my tactics here, i tweeked my tactics there.

I also changed my training techniques, resorted to different summer signings. I even restarted the season 6 times. But still I could not win the game. My average rating never passed 6.5 even when the player had scored, my possession stayed around 30% and got beaten by one team after the other. I tried to change things in my tactics, from possession low tempo building, to high paced attacking football with use of the wings. Sometimes short passing with retaining possession as the goal and playing it through the centre and with the likes of Ozil and Wilshere in the middle, i thought there would be no problem. I have searched online for tactic after tactic, but nothing is working. No tactic change of any kind seems to make the blind bit of difference to the outcome of the game. My goal kicks float to before the half way into their strikers possession EVERYTIME without fail. There wingers dart through 3-4 of the my players without any problem and bury it. This is unrealistic and frustrating, but it is stopping me from buying the full version.

I hope someone reads this and gives me some feedback or assistance please!

They ignore me aswell, on EVERYTHING. Work the ball out the box? Nah just boot it too their striker EVERYTIME! I have not won a single game!!

Just thought I'd put my thoughts in and see if anyone has come across the same issues, my two main one's are for some reason I am getting a lot of Premier League matches moved to Monday night's, I understand it might get moved for television coverage but it just seem's to be happening more and more.

The second thing I've noticed is my wingers (no matter how much I tweak) are just not crossing into the box, they constantly pull back instead of crossing it into the box, I've tried to adjust my wingers and my forwards but they still dont seem to want to cross it in.

I haven't personally, but then I haven't managed in the PL yet. I know that pretty much every FM game has had scheduling issues in the past though, so I wouldn't be surprised. If it's staying true to life though, then usually there is one game on on a Monday night, but no more than that. If you're seeing just one game get moved for TV coverage, that'll be fine. If you start seeing strange moves, or many games getting moved, it's probably a bug.

I've also seen plenty of crosses, so may just be a quirk of your set-up. Probably a tactics issue for that forum.

Don't know if this is a bug. I started a carreer with the beta. I promoted with peterborough to the championship in first season. Currently I'm in my third season in the championship.

If one of my players has a good season they want to move to a bigger club. During the year they ask several times to be put on the transfer list. When on the transfer list I get bids from league 1 teams and I sell to them when they meet my valuation. So these players, who whined all season to play on a higher level, suddenly are happy to play in a lower league, for 1/3 of the wage. Doesn't seem right.

And another problem is that I can't offer new contracts to most of my players, because the wage demands are outrageous. My top earners are on 11.000 a week and suddenly they want 30.000. I can't pay that so I sell them or their contract runs out. Next they go to other clubs, lower league and abroad, to play for 5.000 a week. Not very logical.

Its a shame they haven't gone back to the Original Match Day Screen, that was on 2012 and back, I watch the game on commentary and like looking at the kits, I thought they might have fixed the messy Match day screen from 2013.

2 things to see here:

Mignolet kicks the ball to NOWHERE despite having instructions to use short passing and distribute to defenders. Team instructions also include 'play out of defense', 'retain possession' and 'more disciplined'. So he ignores everything and hoofs the ball straight to Livermore.

Jake Livermore having 11 out of 20 for his long shots and 11 out of 20 for his left foot smashes a volley with his weaker foot from 40 yards.

Not necessarily, you dont need to beat every aspect of a tactic to beat another team, the AI seems to be parking the bus and your yet to find a good way to break that down, it doesnt mean your entire tactic has been rumbled.
If that was the case you would expect me to be testing the opposition keeper less because defences had cottoned on to my team’s abilities to fashion chances but I’m having just as many attempts on goal as earlier in the season. There is to my mind another answer, and that is that all of these games happened after the last update, so it could be that the ME is now better and maybe my side has been punching above their weight until this correction, however if that was the case surely it would affect my team across the board, passes, tackles, shots would all adjust down. As I said in my last post the only real change appears to be the ball just won’t go in the onion bag, shots on target and saved are high and certainly not worse than earlier in the season, it appears to me that, if the other teams in the league have now got a handle on how my teams play, its only manifesting itself in the performance of the goal keepers, their ratings in those 14 games are as follows, although I have to say the ratings are not much help and neither are the oppositions defender ratings as they are mostly poor as well.

I’m not trying to right off the ME, as I’ve said previously on the whole its pretty good, it’s not putting me off playing and I want the game to be challenging but I also want it to be logical, if I’m not playing well I expect it to be consistent with analysis to give me the best chance to improve, at the moment its telling me one thing and results suggest another.

You may be on to something or it might be nothing. Shots saved isn't the only thing that counts towards a GK's rating.

How many shots didn't he save (that he perhaps should have?)

How many crosses caught?

How many times did he rush out to collect a loose ball before the striker can get there?

Did he make any mistakes?

Distribution?

There might be more, but I have made my point.

Edit: As an example... the keeper might have saved 6, but let 2-3 goals in that he maybe could have prevented. 5.5 rating. Do you see what I'm getting at?

Why is the TV money you receive in the EPL less than it was last year?

I thought the new bumper TV deals kicked in in 2013??
