Tactical Advice

Recommended Formation

yV1lUvi.png

Formation Strengths

  • First team is already comfortable in the positions.
  • Using a DM makes your team hard to score against.
  • The movement of the CWBs means all the field is covered.
  • The front 3 are very fluid and hard to defend against.

Squad Advice

  • Retrain Kolo as DM. He'll be sufficient cover for Lucas.
  • You have a lot of CBs. Retrain them for cover at DM and fullback.
  • Give playing time to the young players, especially Sterling.
Not only does he have great potential, but his pace is a potent weapon in the 2nd half.
  • Send Moses back to Chelsea. Play Sterling instead. Save wages.

Let me start saying that I think SI has been very fair with the overall stats of Liverpool players. With that being said I am insanely disappointed with Sturridge. This is a striker that has, consistently, been immense for Liverpool since making the switch from Chelsea (and even doing a great job at Bolton on loan). Sturridge has 19 goals in 25 appereances for Liverpool (according to Wiki), but after running four different saves through a few months with Liverpool, using different tactics in every game and letting them get a bunch of gameswithout big changes in each tactic, I just can't get Sturridge to score goals.

I've tried different roles, and his lack of goals is certainly not due to lack of clear cut chances (all of which he consistently misses). Has anyone else has this problem? If so, how have you overcome it? I am honestly at a loss on how, over four different saves, the leading premier league goal scorer just can't convert easy chances into goals in FM14 :(.

I think he has better potential than in FM13.

Actually no, I play him up fron as a advanced forward or a poacher and he is scoring like a maniac :).

I've used a lot of different formations. Mostly the classic 4-2-3-1 with Sturridge as either an AF or Poacher (at times deep-lying). My most successful Liverpool tactic though was a fluid 4-1-2-2 with Sturridge and Suarez up front. Like I said, I have had decent results with Liverpool, but for some reason, Sturridge just can't score, maybe I've just been unlucky.

Good Man Cesar.so for getting the thread going.

Take your time on it as full game will be a bit different

I will be doing this years Shakhtar thread, but am waiting for the full game as i agree with you things will be different. Just having a Liverpool save at the moment and am coming to the end of the first window, have signed W.Hughes (loaned back to Derby) R.Zivkovic (F.C Groningen) and A.Morata (R.Madrid)

I haven't had much succes with a 4-2-3-1 either, I think the AMC is again this FM not really a great position for players. I would try to play a 4-3-3, I do the same and since then it goes great. I play Coutinho as a playmaker from the AML :)

Have sold Johnson for 26m to arsenal and Lucas for 30m to city all upfront so big money can be brought in if your prepared to sacrifice 2 big players.

Replaced them with Montoya for 7m and Koke for 12.75m

I haven't sold anyone yet. Looking to do this in the winter, just to get me balance a bit more positive, I am not -26 mil in red (mainly through all the loan payments) but having a feeling that this maybe can cost my job and want to prevent this from happening.

Do you mean the position or the role? Because I had plenty of success in FM13 with players in the AMC position.

The main position (with one striker in front) somehow it just didn't work for me and my team played a lot better and scored more goals if I changed to a 4-3-3. Also logical maybe because since FM 13 a lot of teams play 4-2-3-1 and if you play with a DM he will cover the AMC of the opposite team and your striker has all the freedom to move around a bit and drop even a little back. For pace and creative strikers (for example Luis Suarez) this works great.

Good business like the look of Koke, but Bayern snapped him up on my save

Am playing a 4-2-3-1 with Coutinho at AMC and he hasn't done too badly

Anyone experimenting with the 3-4-1-2 formation that Liverpool have been playing irl? Thinking of something like

gk

dc-dc-dc

wbr wbl

mc-mc

coutinho

suarez-sturridge

feel that this formation is perfect with the multitude of central defenders and Johnson's and Enrique's lack of defensive solidity. banking on the front 3 giving me creativity and movement which would hopefully result in goals.

So, here's my first mini update I guess you could call it.

I had a great pre-season beating;

Livingston (A) 3-1

Burton (A) 2-1

Palermo (A) 4-1

Fenerbahce (A) 3-0

Only losing to Bayern 3-1 in Germany.

Transfers In

Luke Shaw - £15m

Leandro Damiao - £3.4

Transfers Out

---

Premier League Results

Cardiff City 0-3 Liverpool - Glen Johnson, Leandro Damiao, Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool 1-0 Norwich City - Glen Johnson

Hull City Tigers 1-0

Domestic Cup Results

Liverpool 5-1 Plymouth Argyle - Iago Aspas x3, Leandro Damiao x2

Other Info

Since I'm playing the 5-2-1-2 that I put in the thread earlier I've been a bit stuck on how to play Raheem. Then thought of him starting the game against Crystal Palace the other week at RWB. So I tried that against Plymouth and he did brilliantly, so I'm retraining him to be a RWB and will be Glens understudy.

I've got Wolverhampton Wanderers at home in the 3rd Round of the Capital Cup.

I'm currently 8th in the league with 6 points from 3 games, but I have a game in hand. So could potentially go 4th with my game in hand.

My word, you got Damiao a bit cheap didn't you? I didn't even bother looking for him on my save because I figured he would be out of my price range by a ways.

10 games into my save and we're sitting pretty at the top of the table (though only by a point), which is a great feeling. The league has been ultra competitive, much as it is IRL, so all of the 'top' teams have been dropping points which has helped me considerably.

Having a bit of an issue with away games, with upsetting 1-0 losses to Hull and Wolves (in the Capital One Cup) and a morale crushing 4-1 drubbing by Fulham. Other than that though, going well so far. Brought in Tadic to play AML, and Kucka as back-up for Lucas; and Tadic has been quality as in Inside Forward so far.

Like most I imagine, I was majorly disappointed with Sturridge's stats, but he's currently my and the league's top scorer with 9, so I'm properly chuffed. He's been undroppable.

I thought that too, but when I was playing as a different team, I saw that Liverpool bought him for that price. So, I'm not sure whether it's a bug or not.

Also as you saw I played Hull and lost 1-0. I've also got Wolves in the COC.

Somehow, Glen Johnson is the teams top scorer and 3rd top goalscorer in the league... which is strange but I'm not complaining, must be getting my tactic spot on with him as he's playing like he is in real life :D

Morata sounds like a must buy at £10m!

Yer was chuffed had a deal agreed for Pastore but it never went through so on the last day of the window wanted either a Att Mid or a ST, Morata wasnt listed but just bid for him and surprised when R.Madrid accepted, love the new suggest offer button saves so much time :D

Starting again but this time going at it properly. Setting up my staff and trying to settle on a squad for the season

Might sell Johnson and Lucas again as 56m is a lot of cash and will allow me to bring in quality like Montoya, Koke, Honda & hopefully Veratti

September/October 2013 update.

It's been a great few months, with a few hiccups. Even though those mistakes have come, I'm top of the league with 21 points from 9 games. Chelsea have a game in hand and are sitting in 2nd with 19 points. So have to hope that the blue ***** can do us a favour as they play Chelsea next.

Results

Premier League

Sunderland 1-3 Liverpool -Glen Johnson X2, Sunderland O.G

Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham - Glen Johnson (who else), Aly Cissokho, Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool 0-2 West Bromwich Albion

Liverpool 1-0 West ham United - Mamadou Sakho

Liverpool 1-0 Fulham - Glen Johnson (Getting a bit boring now :D)

Manchester United 0-2 Liverpool - Luis Suarez (FINALLY!), Daniel Agger (pen)

Domestic Cup

Liverpool 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Other Info

Absolute joke getting knocked out of the COC. They beat me badly. I hardly had possession.

After I beat West Ham, they sacked Big Sam. Tony Carr was put in as Caretaker Manager... so I signed him up as a coach :D No Manager for West Ham :D

Glen Johnson is still being a complete and utter beast.

Suarez is doing terribly. It's not like he's not getting the service. Coutinho & Co. are supplying beautiful balls. He's just not taking advantage.

In January, I might see if there is anybody interested in him, and sign someone such as Morata or someone like that.

Will update again in January :)

He's been pretty decent for me so far. 4 goals and 5 assists in 9 league games. I've got him playing on the right as an Inside Forward, seeing as how Sturridge has decided to go and make himself undroppable and that.

Tadic is a monster by the way. Assists.... Assists everywhere.

Can't see why Suarez wouldn't play as well there as he would anywhere else tbh. Have you tried playing with his roles? Maybe try him as an AF, or a false 9 to see if you can't get him to be a creative force if he's not scoring himself.

Here's me:

liverp10.jpg

Suarez scores a ton by cutting inside and my AMC or CM playing him in. I have Suarez and Tadic set to cross to far post as well, so both score a fair fair by getting on the end of the others crosses.

Got Spurs, Villa, Chelsea, United, and Everton all in a row atm. Utterly grim. Beat Spurs at Anfield so far, and lost 1-0 to Villa at theirs when I really could have done with the win to cushion the potential points dropped against United and Chelsea. Ah well.

Generation-Next

Would recommend changing Suarez to a "Support" duty as he'll come a bit deeper to fid the ball in space. With all three attacking players on the "Attack" duty there's little there linking things.

Cheers mate. Just changed it before Villa game and he put in a cracking shift. Getting on the score sheet and just generally getting involved in the play more.

hi guys, playing about with a 2323 formation

GK

DC DC

CWB A CWB

BWM BWM

AM PM AM

the basics of it from a 550 formation back in fm13 - its and end to end tactic with loads of chances - but aspas is the player of the save so far - immense as in the advanced playmaker role.

is anyone else bored of rejecting bids from real - agger, suarez, and lucas - tempted by suarez as at the very start when he was worth 44m and would have broke the mouse of they had offered cash but just enquired!

Link to post

also cwb are scoring loads as well - cissikho and Johnson on fire but that has always been part of the formation I use as they tend to be the furthest forward at the end of the tactics build up and can be the apm outball to allow the am to get into the box
