Yes, Ive been testing so have started a few and soaked a few seasons as the game has progressed. Data in the whole is good and we can wint the league although some teams perform better than their real life counterparts.

Im just started a new season with a build and beat the Y*** 4-1 opening day of season and PAOK 3-0 first leg of EC qualifiers.

Using 4231/433. Setting up all the positional player positions with their individual instructions takes time but worth it as when you bring them on as a sub they already know what to do.

A few things i would touch up that wasnt done

Rosicky needs this physicals tweaking as these were back to when I reduced him when he had his injuries, id probaly increase his Acc and pace to 15/13 respectively.

Ramsey's the same with an increase in his flair.

Also a few youngsters could do with an increase in certain areas as ive seen them and some of the data is a little low.

I am using 4-2-3-1, have a few variations in instructions, but not many. Have a good base system that works very well.

Results:

H - Man Utd - 4-0

H - PAOK - 1-0 (UCL)

A - Swansea - 2-1

A - PAOK - 5-1 (UCL - 6-1 on aggregate)

A - Sunderland 2-1

playing well so far. Wonderful cohesion & movement. Lots of depth in the squad, sharing the goals around - its a dream start really.

Capital One Cup - Everton v Arsenal - Round 3

Champions League - Group C - Atletico Madrid, Ajax & Napoli.

Yeah stuck a few into the data thread over some stuff.

Guys I have been seeing some really strange tactical stuff so far, so thought I would try and be helpful and remind of a few points - i will then update the player profiles above to include information on their roles and duties to help your decision making.

The first tactical points to remind you of are from wwfan's 12 step guide - so suggest paying them their dues:

  • "Focus on roles and duties in the TC. Make sure you have one Attack duty in defence, one Attack and one Defend in midfield, and one Support in attack (especially if you have a lone FC). Make sure you have at least one no-nonsense, hard-working midfielder role. If you want to use a PM, will he be in the best position to hurt players, or will your approach see him isolated."
  • "Look at the team comparison page to determine how strong / weak your team is to the divisional average. Use the tactical adjustments to take advantage of / cover for this (e.g. if you have a very slow or lazy team, stand off more, whereas if they are quick and hard-working, press more)"
  • "Use the shouts to develop and save a favoured playing style, which should also suit your team strengths / weaknesses. For example, a highly technical team can sit deep and counter at pace, so using retain possession, pass into space, run at defence with a counter strategy may be worthwhile. A less technical but more physical team might want to impose themselves in a different way, so consider using get ball forwards, hit early crosses, get stuck in with an attack strategy."
  • Before each match, look at the weather conditions and the opposing team's formation to determine your match strategy. It can be very difficult to counter attack on a heavy, chewed up pitch, so you might have to abandon your preferred style and play an uglier game. You might want to expose an opponents lone wide player formation and exploit the flanks or look for overlap. You might be happy with your starting system.
  • Now for some of my own
  • Make your team multi-focal, by this, stop having a single route to goal (i.e. a quick Walcott, or lumping crosses to Giroud), have lots.
  • Consider where your runners come from, had a message from someone a few days ago about his system, and he had no players trying to break in behind the defensive line. Elementary problem. If you are not sure on your roles and duties, stick with BASIC ones until you know better. A well structured team of full backs and wingers, deep-lying forwards and central midfielders is a better start than a team full of specialist roles, doing a bad job.
  • Be careful just how many individual instructions you give a player - consider if you wanted the role you've give in the first place if you've made so many changes to your role/style.
  • Build your team from the BACK, it will naturally lend you a structure to build your team's attacking strata and guide your decision making. At least have the duties picked first, and then go about the roles afterwards, as the duties will determine a lot of your team structure and shape.

Stop thinking in slider terms too, it will not help, play what you see in front of you, learn to pause the game at moments (just for 5 seconds is enough) and watch what is happening (i.e. "oh christ, why is my holding midfielder that high up the pitch! Rooney is in tons of space!" - it helps so much.

Just started with Arsenal to get a feel for the game.

Main formation will be a narrow 4-2-3-1. Ozil as enganche in the hole, and the other two AM berths will be depending on personnel. I really like the way player specific instructions can be saved.

, L

Have so far signed Kurt Zouma (was supposed to be Mangala but he got broke his foot after agreeing a contract), Vela, Luciano Vietto, and Youri Tielemans.

Trying to fund some funds to buy Luke Shaw now.

How are you guys dealing with the new financial demands of the transfer system?

I notice now that we have to pay money for being an unused sub, plus the extra costs of appearance fees. Are you finding it really drains your wages budget?

I manually remove the unused sub clauses and haggle on the appearance fees, generally that works.

Cheers Aron, I've got a save going but have been concentrating on sorting my tactics out, now I need a CD as Vermaelen is out injured.

Ah, in case you haven't seen him yet, Balanta for ca £6m is a steal or the cheaper Boyata for £800k if you're out of cash. I got both and they've been doing pretty well together so far. There's also this Doria fellow in Botafogo but they tried to rob me for him :)

Nice thread, llama3. I'll get an Arsenal save going once I'm finished playing around with Sevilla. There's a lot of decisions to be made tactically this year with the Arsenal squad, so I'm really looking forward to playing as them this year.

If you guys are looking at centre backs, it might interest you to know that Federico Fazio has an £8.5mil release clause. Might not be as good as he was in previous games, but he's still a good pick-up at that price, I reckon.

Good start there, keep it up.

If its in the data thread it might get changed as they are looking at glaring issues.

Re FS, we all grow up eventually and life gets in the way and time playing and posting reduces. I know ive dropped off considerably from a few years ago once you have kits etc.

1 point away from winning the league with 3-4 games left.

Just been on a bad run in all comps, won 4 out of 10. Was absolutely running away with the league until the knockout rounds started. Beat Barca but lost on away goals to Dortmund.

did lewandowski score the winner despite the fact he should been off for an elbow to the face?

Haha not quite, he did score 2 quick goals in the first game that meant it was all uphill for me though!

Me getting knocked out on here and Arsenal losing tonight literally happened within 10 mins of each other!

2013/2014 End of Season Review

Brilliant season for me! Added to by the fact I am a Charlton supporter (see those relegated! :))

Think I won about 6 of 17 competitive matches at the end of the season in the end should have won the league a long time ago. Ended up winning it at the Emirates with a point against Spurs!

As you can see, some big changes.

Had to snap up Ter Stegen for the price. Great value.

Moreno is ideal as a ball playing defender.

Clasie and Nainggolan add talent to an ageing area of midfield, allowing me to move on Ramsey and Flamini in the process, who had no future at the club.

Managed to get 35m for Vela and Giroud. Giroud had a great season but at times really underperformed while Vela was just poor throughout.

Gambled on Guiseppe Rossi with high (100k) wage demands and future prospect Timo Werner.

One problem I have at the club is Sagna has left on a free as I wouldnt cave into his wage demands. I now have no recognized right backs, would appreciate any good/good for value player suggestions! Looking for someone solid who is comfortable in possession and can whip in a good cross.

Good first season there mate. Bit surprised at some of your current season clear out (Rambo :(!!)

But otherwise some good buys.

For right back, how is Corchia looking in this version?

I can recommend de Sciglio and Martin Montoya as good right backs, they've been doing well on my game.

Just started an Arsenal one to mess around with before the full game comes out. Usually I turn off transfer budgets for the first window but as this will only be short term I've decided to spend. Out goes Jenkinson on loan, Fabianski for £2.5m and potentially Podolski. In comes Coleman for £9m, Michu for £18m and Vela for £3.4m. Playing around with the tactics. LOVE that you can now get Theo to stay high up the pitch and that you can get Santi to tuck in. Means I can now get Gibbs to overlap Santi and for Sagna to join Walcott to link the play. Not sure what to do with Giroud, atm I have him as a target man who runs into channels. I have Ozil running wide with the ball and roaming.

Looking at signing Marc Andre ter stegen from Gladbach but thay wanted 44m!!!!

I think this was because I bidded on final day of transfer window and the club would not have time to replace him.

Season 2 I may look to offload Podolski as I dont see him as key player for me and his wages don't justify him just sitting on the bench when I have better players on much lower wages. Just not sure how easy it will be to sell him with his wage demands?

De Sciglio seems a great prospect on FM14. In FM13 he was amazing for me at Porto and was sold on to Chelsea for around £30M. Another could be Corchia or Gino Peruzzi. Peruzzi has a 4.5 or 5* PA, don't remember exactly, but he is performing quite well in my save.

That's my tactic. Only issue I've got atm is Ozil, he's not firing and he's giving away the ball too much. Only other change I'm probably going to make is changing my RB to support so he can get involved in the play more.

I don't know if you've read wwfan's updated guide to FM14 - here - he recommends having few specific roles if you are going for a fluid style - in your case he'd recommend a Very Rigid style as you've already given so many players instructions you want them to follow. Although apparently you are getting results so this is only a tip :)

I just re-negotiated with Sagna on a rotation contract on 60k a week which is brilliant until I find a younger option for the future. It was the first thing I did so that's probably why he didn't ask for extortionate amounts.

One thing I do hope is that when the full game comes out we wont be getting 'Laurel & Hardy' coming on every time a player gets injured and I hope it won't take forever to take corners either. AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Also why does every goalkeeper suddenly become the worlds No1 when they play against me, saving shots from 6 yds out. I can have 20 shots on goal and say score 3 they have 3 shots on goal and score every one.
