ri916's FM14 Anglo/Euro Youth Academy Challenge

Recommended Posts

Media Prediction : 16th

Board Expectations: Avoid Relegation

Personal Expectations: safety via playoff games

It's always nice to snatch automatic safety on the the last day of the season, with the team finishing in the heady heights of 13th place.

Finances are obviously a sticking point, I just can't get the income at the moment especially from gates receipts, as shown from attendances here, unless someone swoops in with a ridiculous offer for one of my youngsters, it's going to be a long hard slog of constant survival battles whilst hoping sponsorship money increases to a level where we can at least break even.

Youth Team

An okay-ish bunch. with future self-imposed (and club imposed) budget constraints a possibility, just the 3 players signed

Robin Danielsson (YP08a) - possibly the goalkeeper I've been waiting for

Richard Olofsson (YP08b) - a tall strong central defender - needs a little work on the mental and technical side

William Mustafa (YP08c) - the other tall central defender - might employ a sweeper system for him to slot into too...

Next seasons targets:- same again, 14th or better. (Also not 5 months between updates)

We are really struggling this season. We've lost 6 of our last 7, and all of those defeats have been by just one goal, with us conceding the winners in the last 10 minutes on many of those occasions. :(

To top it off the newly promoted side have done okayish, if results don't pick up it could all be over.

We're now 6 points adrift in the relegation zone, so I have given myself 2 games to get 3 points before the winter break or I'm going to end my attempt at this challenge and buy some players in January to try and stay up :(. As I'm pretty sure this save is eligible for Gundos challenge I'll probably post over there.

Sadly I didn't manage to win either of those games and was forced to bring in a few players :(. Thankfully they played a huge part in keeping us up. If anyone's interested I'll be posting future updates in Gundo's thread, and while I'm now allowing myself transfers there will still be a great emphasis on youth development :).

:(, but :) on staying up!

First of a few overdue updates incoming from a 'busy' long weekend of FM for me (a rarity these days, and very much enjoyed it!)

SV Spakenburg - Season 03 Review (2016-17)

Jupiler League : 14th

Dutch Cup : Third Round

Season Review

Well, that was a season full of tactical uncertainty, mis-firing forwards and false dawns!

Second consecutive season with a 14th place finish, but this was a lot more nervy than before, with just 3 games to go we were only 2 points away from the relegation spot! A strong finish made it look more comfortable than it really was, but it also provides hopes that we have finally found our style and can utilize our home grown talent!

Our season started off with our main player, forward Roy de Ruiter, asking to leave for a bigger club. I failed to placate him and he had less than a year on his contract left. I decided to play it out, fielding him in my side as the lone forward and hoping to convince him to sign a deal later in the season. He started out ok, but after a stretch of 18 hours without a goal he was finally dropped!

The turning point was the Youth Intake week. Along with our new kids, I tinkered with our 4th or 5th new tactic trying to find something that clicked and de Ruiter decided he would resign for us! Suddenly he hit a hat-trick and we had light at the end of the tunnel. We then had a 6-0 win out of nowhere, in which he scored 5 goals and his season haul went from 2 goals, to double digits just like that!

The board only expected to avoid relegation, which we did, so no issues on that end.

Youth Intake

An interesting intake. The main kid is a goalkeeper, which is not really needed just yet, but will not hurt.

Yassin Messaoudi - Goalkeeper. Will struggle for first team action but will play lots of youth games

Muhammet Calik (YP 03B) - An interesting player. Immediately has the highest crossing of anyone throughout the club, and the second best dribbling. Not very pacey, but he immediately becomes my first viable option of a wide left player. Will see as much first team action as he can handle

Sven Veerman (YP 03C) - Central midfielder, which is needed, but will need work on his tackling and his physical presence to make an impact in the first team

Henk van de Ven (YP 03D) - Central midfielder, short but decent

Miscellaneous

Another junior coaching upgrade and another pair of training and youth facility upgrades approved the day the previous ones were completed. Costing 1.5m this time, we are about to hit our ceiling for what we can afford with the (very healthy) TV money in the Juliper League. Check as I might I have not been given the opportunity to upgrade Youth Recruitment since season 1. I believe we need to increase our reputation first, before being able to.

Despite wanting to, I did not give as many first team starts to YP tagged players as I wanted this year, mainly due to our precarious league position for most of the year. It feels like I am finally at the tipping point though, where previous seasons tagged players and then new ones coming through are viable options to surplant the now ageing first teamers (three are 33 or older and a couple more have turned 30).

Season 02 (2015-16) Goals

* Survive! But maybe improve a little as well....

* Continue infrastructure improvement

* Settle on a tactic

* First team starts for youths

Campeonato Nacional Séire G - Have to admit I was very surprised that we managed to get into the promotion stage, I just assumed we would be rock bottom or floating around the bottom but it was a very welcome surprise. I knew there was no chance of us even getting near promoted but we didnt get embarrassed so I was pretty pleased with this season.

Taça de Portugal - We were fairly lucky that we got teams around our level in the draws, Naval was a tough one but again I was happy enough that we were not embarrassed.

Star Player

Kyle Oliveira - Half Canadian, half Portuguese, had a decent enough season in midfield.

If we managed to do the same I'd be very happy and start integrating some of our new youth players.

Campeonato Nacional Séire G - I'm not sure at all how we ended up as champions but our name is on the honor roll and I'm not going to question it, hopefully the first of many and not just a once off. Despite winning the league, apparently, we were not promoted because we finished 4th and went into the relegation stagewere the only really tough team we played was our local rivals Operário Acores.

Taça de Portugal - We managed to drag our only game in this into extra time but in truth we were poor and deserved to go out.

Star Player

Rodolfo Maia (YP 15 15) - I was very surprised to see how well he done this season, all his 8 goals came towards the end of the season and even included 4 in one match.

It would be great to make the promotion stage again.

Well, I have played a lot over the last week or so, including an 'old school' weekend where my wife and son were visiting her sister and I had the house to myself.....

I am never going to have the time to report it all and play, now I am back to a normal schedule, so I will bullet-point it below.

Going to save my reporting time for when we all get FM15.

Will keep this updated though until then.

SV Spakenburg

Season 4 - Juliper League 10th

Season 5 - Juliper League 9th (out in first round of playoffs)

Season 6 - Juliper League 9th (out in second round of playoffs)

Season 7 - Juliper League 7th (won the playoffs - promoted!)

Promoted a season ahead of plan, but probably 1 or 2 ahead of quality. I have struggled to get any tactic or style working consistently and then at the end of season 7 another change in tactic led to a run of wins through to the playoffs!

I am now at the winter break in my season 8, first year in the Eredivisie and it is [self censored] brutal! Last years tactic failed quickly against the big boys, and I was dead last in the league until adopting a new Defensive mentality approach. Of the 6 games using it I am W4 D1 L1 somehow (2 of those wins were VERY lucky, it is like the Alamo with an occassional break - have yet to play any of the real big guys with the new tactic yet).

Fingers crossed I can survive, but it would not be any surprise if I have to drop down again for a year or two.

3 points above relegation playoffs spots and 11 above the instant relegation spot. I would be in big trouble if not for that run of 13 points from 6 games......

Managed to just now get my Junior Coaching to to Exceptional, and Youth Recruitment to Average.

Intakes have been decent. My 1st choice back four all came from season 4's intake and last year has some high potential kids, but I cannot give them any first team action due to fighting and biting for every possible point....

COVE RANGERS F.C. 2017-18 SEASON

LEAGUE TABLE

As you can see from the graph, our start was strong, just like last season. We stayed at 5th position for a long time, but with time, our form started to become worse, and as a result we could only finish in 9th position, a real blow. We were never in danger of being relegated however, as Peterhead was too bad.

The performance in cup competitions were even more disappointing. In all the three cup competitions, we went out in first round. Especially the loss against non-league team Turiff United in Scottish Cup in home was just too depressing.

Fixtures- Part I

Fixtures- Part II

STAR PLAYERS

Craig Dorrat to the rescue again. He managed to score 19 goals in the league, managing to become the 3rd best goal scorer. David Donaldson continued his terrific form of last season. He was our only entry into the Scottish League 2 Team of the Year.

I really wanted some great defenders in youth intake, but unfortunately got none. The pick of the bunch will be Dale Calder, according to my staffs, he has the potential to be a great Scottish Championship attacking midfielder.

TRANSFERS

I let go of Cleland & Mckenna through mutual termination as they weren't really getting any chance. Connor Rennie has been a key midfielder for me for last 2 seasons, but no matter how I tried, he was not interested in getting into a contract negotiation.

MISCELLANEOUS

Oh, and the club's junior coaching was upgraded, its average now. However, board has been reluctant to upgrade the other facilities due to poor finances.

Also, I employed former Scottish international Craig Gordon as our under 19 Head Coach.

I am still doing it.

I just completed the challenge with Taranto.  At the end of the 2027/28 season, I won CL by beating Man Utd 1-0, on a free kick by by free kick specialist.  My Poacher was man-marking their deeper midfielder while my two AMCs were bothering their four defenders.

I had already won Serie A a few years prior, but Napoli proved just insane in 2027/28.  I did knock them out of CL, owing to a 3-0 victory at home after a 2-0 setback on the road, but in domestic competition they were unplayable, by me or anyone else.

IT IS DONE!!!!!!
