Clear Cut Chance - The FREE FM Quarterly E-BOOK *OUT NOW*

Recommended Posts

I am pleased to announce that the first edition of Clear Cut Chance is now available to be downloaded http://www.clearcutchance.com/latest/download/

For the past 18 months (maybe longer) I've been designing an e-book for the Football Manager community, this publication will be available every quarter.

It's a project run by myself and Jad from http://www.pushthemwide.co.uk/ We've also got Foxo involved from the awaystand and Naks who is a poster off these boards and very well known in the French FM community. It's been a real team effort settings this up.

We aim to bring you quality content for Football Manager and hopefully put a little spin on things. We've tried to be as diverse as possible and offer stuff for all aspects of Football Manager to cater for all readers. Some of the content that you can expect to see in Edition One and future editions are interviews with Coaches, scouts, physio's, analytics, directors and a host of other professionals who are involved with football clubs. We've asked them FM related stuff and some of the answers we've got back have been brilliant so far they really give you an insight into how things work and how they compare to Football Manager.

The formats available are .epub, .mobi, .azw3 and .pdf. Epub works with iBooks, Mobi works with Kindle and the Kindle apps available on iOS, Android etc, AZW3 is the new improved format for Kindle books, and PDF, as I'm sure you all know, works on pretty much anything.

The PDF is the one with the full design and is really lovely to read; the other formats are designed to adapt to the display preferences set on your devices (meaning that the font-size and background-color of pages is set by iBooks or your reading app itself, rather than set at an arbitrary value). I'll make sure there's an option to download all formats in a zip file too for the people who have loads of devices.

If there's another format that someone wants included please let us know and we will look into for any future edition.

FAQ's

Q - How much will it cost? A- It's totally free

Q - Can I contribute to the ebook and if so how? A - To contribute you can either contact me on here or via the contact form on the website

Q - How often will this be released? A - It will be released every quarter (every 3 months)

Q - Always on the same date? A - No but it will be released in the correct month. However the date might vary due to how busy we are.

Q - I have some ideas about the layout/content suggestions/features etc what should I do? A - You can use the contact us form on the website, PM me on here or use this thread.

Q - Can I redistribute this on my own website? A - You can add a direct download link on your site but for anything other than that, please contact us before hand.

Q - Can I translate this into another language? A- Yes that is fine as long as you contact us to let us know who for and show us the translated version before hand. The reason for this is some of the content contained in the e-book we had to get permission to use from certain individuals due to their real life jobs. So any changes no matter how small have to be show to the people before hand for legal reasons.

Q - Don't seem to be able to download any on iPhone, any ideas how I can download this onto phone?A- make sure you are using Safari - Chrome doesn't allow you to download epub files on iOS. Go to the download page, click iOS and then wait a few seconds. It should show up a screen with a button that says "Open with iBooks". That will save it to your library.

Just downloaded, it seems a great work and I will surely enjoy the reading, well done!

I also want to put to your attention Cleon, the main link is not working at the moment.

Which link isn't working?

Awesome content from start to finish.

But do I need to buy a tablet to read this? :D

I would probably prefer to read it on these forums more than on a separate publication, but times... they are a-changing.

No you don't need to buy anything. Use the PDF version :)

We can't really make it a forum post, it just doesn't go :D

On the website? We haven't actually added that bit yet, we was waiting a few days to see what we get asked :)

I think he means the link at the top of this page Cleon, it did not work for me either. I had to go on the website then click download from there, I think 'latest/' is missing. Great work by the way, I cannot wait to get stuck into this!

Yep, first link in the OP isn't pointing to the right URL atm (is missing 'latest/' from the BBCode as pointed out)

Downloaded it from the proper link and going to read it abit later when I have time

Ackter mentioned the FAQ's link though, so I assume he means the website :)

I've fixed the link btw in the opening post :)

Really enjoyed the 'Players v Systems' article, it has really changed my outlook on the way I will approach things in the future. I am 100% guilty of not playing the way I want and just going with what I've got on hand.

Enjoyed it all tbf, too. :D

Cleon, I haven't yet finished reading the entire magazine yet, but I have a question. I was fascinated by the interview where the guy mentions the 4 stages: in possession, out of possession, attacking and defensive transitions. How would something like that look on a tactics board or match plan?

I think he has some examples on his website and on http://eplindex.com/tag/epl-stats

Nicely done and looks like a well planned and well constructed document - After reading the 'Editors note' I was little disappointed that you'd never seen The Bootroom fanzine we did a while back (Link - http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/50800-The-Bootroom-Issue-4), never really got long term support so I hope you fare better!

Edit - I might forgive you as The Bootroom was all the way back in 2008!

I do remember The Bootroom but it wasn't all about FM, you had real football articles in it too which had nothing to do with FM. So I don't class that as a pure publication on FM :). Plus it was a long time ago, my notes are about what was currently around :) No offence intended. :)

Just downloaded it. Looks great and will take a couple of days to read and digest - esp NakS article.

Just a word on first impressions re. design - for the next edition you should include pictures - not just diagrams, but photos also to break up the text.

I'm reading it now - the content is truly brilliant. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that appearance-wise, the way forward is to learn from the layout of The Bootroom.
