I've scouted & signed numerous youngsters with great potential, however rarely have they turned out to be the 3-5star matured players they should have been. I have used tutoring, specialised coaching and given them enough game time but sometimes they jus dont progress, any reason for this or am i just not able to connect with the kids on their level!

Of course, loaned them out to my affiliated clubs, I would always place them in the youth team or the reserves and not expose them to 1st team action too soon in their development. This may be a reason for lack of progress but if they aint good enough at the time i wont play them. Maybe i'm too demanding...

Do you check personalities and such before signing? I'm assuming you do since you talk about tutoring and obviously know the score, I've rarely had issues myself getting youngsters to progress. I do find that quite often their potential rating will drop slightly as time goes by, but that is to be expected as your coaches get to know a player better. To be honest, I've probably had more youngsters turn out better than I expected than worse.

How important do you think the tutoring is, would you say its more important than any other mode of progression or equal?

Depends on the player, I mainly use it to raise determination. If his determination is already high I don't think it's a huge deal, I don't worry a great deal about ppms to be honest. If a player has low determination, tutoring is vital.

It's not vital. Determination isn't as important as you are making it out to be, its just another attribute like the rest of them.

Apologies for having a different opinion and experience of the game.

I agree with you 100%. I like my players determined, and professional, and PPMs can wait.

If you have good coaches, and good facilities, and you give a (determined professional) player (with potential) game time, they will develop. Bottom line.

Their star rating WILL NOT be what it showed when they were initally scouted though, because the level of the team in general will have gone up in those 4 or 5 years.

Its professionalism and ambition what decides how someone develops though and not determination. Determination can be a handy attribute to have for in game situations but it has no bearing on player development. Your post and the one above seem to suggest otherwise when that's not true at all.

I think we can both agree that it would help with progression if you take a long hard look at it... If he doesn't fit in with a determined team, he could be the weak link and therefore not warrant the game time which ultimately could stunt his growth as a player. I do agree with the rest of what you said though.

If a player doesn't have a personality with at least a fair level of Professionalism they are going to fail to progress. The biggest factor in player development is successful first team football at an appropriate level. Not only will a "good" personality help a player achieve this, but also determine the amount of improvement the player will gain (Professionalism)and how quickly he will gain it (Ambition).

Determination is an important attribute in as far as it can contribute to a player achieving higher ratings in matches, but without good Professionalism and to a lesser extent Ambition, it won't help him develop.

This thread seems to have veered off the op's point since Cleon weighed in. For the record I never said determination is important in helping a player develop. If you read the post Cleon responded to you will see I was talking about why I use tutoring, to raise determination, and that I find tutoring vital for a player with low determination.

I prefer a player with 15+ professionalism and ambition and 10 determination then another player with 20 determination and lower than 10 ambition and professionalism.

The biggest point of tutoring is to shape PERSONALITIES. Nothing to do with raising determination, in fact sometimes it will actually go down but is a "sacrifice" that must be made in order for the player to "grow" in personality.

Determination will not go down so long as you use pay attention to who you tutor with.

Any chance SI could offer some forum tutoring to help with some users reading comprehension? How many time must I say I'm simply talking about how I play the game and use tutoring before people stop telling me I'm wrong and stating their opinion as fact?

Talking about reading comprehension, I didnt say you were wrong as determination will most of the times go up. I was saying that the BIGGEST POINT of tutoring is to shape the personality of a player.

And you've never had a player with 18+ determination and low professionalism? That you tutored with a "professional" one with, lets say, 15 determination? It will go down a point or two but it's preferable that way.

Sigh.

Still telling me I'm wrong. ;)

I don't care about anything else but determination when tutoring. I am successful with this method. You could well be successful with your method. You are still stating opinion as fact.

Anyhoo, I'm outta this thread. Good luck with your youngsters op, hope you got something from this, before we got into pointless argument.

Not really as it pinpoints a major reason why the OP could be failing to develop some of his youngsters with high potential.
