Japan v Turkmenistan

Weds 1st Apr: World Cup 2010 Asian Qualifying 3rd Round

Pre Match

10 superkids start for Turkmenistan, with Cook on the bench. Captain is the non-superkid and Key Man is Selim Atas. Ali Obeid is again not included in the match day squad.

My Opinion

Probably the toughest game of the group, but after their terrific performance against Iran who knows what Turkmenistan could achieve. I think they could pull off a win here as well.

12 minutes in and a loose pass by Japan lets Gonzalez in, but the keeper saves well.

Libertinho picks up a yellow card.

Gonzalez is played in again put through, and again the shot is pushed behind by the keeper. However, from the corner Mendieta rises and heads the ball into the net. 16 minutes gone, 0-1.

Japan win their first corner off Koppers after 38 minutes. It comes to nothing, which sums up Japan in the 1st half really.

The only worrying moment for Turkmenistan was a freekick from Nakamura, which hit the upright but bounced to safety.

HT: Japan 0 v 1 Turkmenistan

Half Time Stats

Gonzalez is subbed at halftime.

Japan seem like a different team in the second half, with De Santiago having to be in fine form to deny them an equaliser early on.

Chaoconov hits a long range powerful shot at the Japanese keeper who can only punch the ball straight back out, but it is cleared.

After 70 minutes, a long ball to the back post from deep by Japan, that is finished with a first time shot. 1-1.

Koppers is then subbed off as part of a double Turkmenistan substitution. Atas takes over as Captain.

Just as it starts to look as if Japan might edge this, another poor pass by a midfielder puts Atas through on goal. One-on-one with the keeper, he calmly slots home to score on the counter. 1-2.

FT: Japan 1 v 2 Turkmenistan

Match Overview

Player Stats

A great win for Turkmenistan, with Atas getting the MOM award.

Australia v Kyrgyzstan

Weds 1st Apr: World Cup 2010 Asian Qualifying 3rd Round

Pre Match

11 superkids start for Kyrgyzstan. On the bench is Freealdinho, Bartinho + Halali. The Captain is Alan and the Key Man is Davo.

My Opinion

Australia is a good team, probably the best team in the Asian qualifying section. I think Australia is fielding a fairly strong line up, so Kyrgyzstan may lose this.

Australia has the first decent chance after 17 minutes, but the shot goes over the bar.

Australia play the ball across the pitch and then down the left wing. Kewell whips in a great cross, but Ryan is there to whack it into touch.

36 minutes gone and Bill is replaced by Halali.

Corner from the right for Australia. It is over hit and looks like it will be no threat, but Prof Frink pushes Cahill in the penalty area. Penalty to Australia. Up steps Bresciano and it fires it into the net with ease. 1-0.

Strangely, Alan is then subbed off for a central defender. Kygryzstan move to their more traditionally defensive 4-2-1-2-1 formation.

Davo saves the day, clearing a Cahill shot off the line.

HT: Australia 1 v 0 Kyrgyzstan

Half Time Stats

2 minutes into the 2nd half and Halali produces a bit of magic. He curls a freekick into the top left hand corner of the goal for his first ever goal for Kyrgyzstan. 1-1.

52 minutes gone and Williams jinks past Birkinaldo before blasting the ball over the bar yet again.

Australia continue to apply the pressure, with Kyrgyzstan struggling to get out of their half for the next 20 minutes.

Al-Dahash is replaced by Bartinho after 73 minutes.

Birkinaldo receives a yellow card for bringing down an Aussie on the edge of the area. Fortunately the resultant freekick is off target.

With 5 minutes to go, Bartinho races clear down the left and gets to touchline before pulling the ball back for Azeryk, who 10 yards out and with no defender right next to him misses a golden chance to snatch a win for Kyrgyzstan.

FT: Australia 1 v 1 Kyrgyzstan

Match Overview

Player Stats

A draw for Kyrgyzstan is a good solid result for them. MOM goes to Birkinaldo.

World Cup 2010 Asian Qual Results – Weds 1st April 2009

Group A Group B

Australia 1 v 1 Kyrgyzstan Japan 1 v 2 Turkmenistan

South Korea 3 v 0 Bahrain Iran 4 v 1 Qatar

4. Bahrain -8 0 4. Qatar -12 0

Both Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan are now pretty much guaranteed at least 3rd spot in the group, but you have to think that they have already done enough to secure qualification to the World Cup 2010, especially with both having to play Bahrain / Qatar again.

The first definite qualifier for the World Cup 2010 (apart from the hosts South Africa) is Argentina, who has qualified with 6 games to spare in the South American group.

Player Cam Match Report

Sat 4th Apr: Charlton v Middlesbrough – League Match

Both Azeryk + Marcus Cook start upfront for Boro.

Great start to player cam for Azeryk when after 14 minutes he races onto a Cattermole throughball before expertedly sliding the ball under the keeper. 0-1.

Superkid heaven, as a minute later Cattermole crosses the ball in from the right and Cook volleys home. 0-2.

The rest of the half is fairly even, but no more goals.

HT: Charlton 0 v 2 Middlesbrough

Within 5 minutes of the restart Charlton pull a goal back via a freekick from Karimi. 1-2.

Just before the hour mark Boro restore their 2 goal lead when a long ball freekick into the box is met by the head of McGeady. 1-3.

Azeryk has a good shot well saved by the keeper with 5 minutes to go.

Al-Dahash is wanted by Marseille.

Libertinho may be on his way out of Sweden. Heerenveen of Holland are interested in the superkid.

Hermandinho is wanted by Porto. Not sure if this is for buying or loaning though, as Hermandinho is listed as ‘available for loan’.

It had been coming for a while - Samaras Taraldo has put in a transfer request to move. The interested clubs in him are: Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, Wigan, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Valencia and Zaragoza.

I’m afraid the Azeryk + Cook striking partnership is over for the season (and quite a chunk of the next one as well). Marcus Cook has damaged his cruciate knee ligaments and will be out for 7-9 months. icon_frown.gif

Thought it was about time for a league table update, with about a month of the season remaining in most of the leagues:

Beligum - Premier League

England - Premiership

England - Championship

England - League One

German - First Division

Holland - Premier League

Italy Serie A

Italy - Serie B

Scotland - Premier League

Spain - La Liga

Turkey - Premier League

The Summer Leagues

The Swedish league has only played 1 game so far, Hacken drawing it. The Russian league has had 4 rounds of fixtures, Zenith St Petersburg in 10th place with 5 points from 4 games.

Player Cam Match Report

Sat 11th Apr: Middlesbrough (16th) v (7th) Leeds Utd – League Match

Azeryk starts upfront for Boro.

Apart from a dangerous move early on by Leeds that forced a sharp save by the Boro keeper, the opening half hour was fairly quiet, although Boro did have the more possession.

Azeryk has a hit and hope shot from long range which just misses the left post.

Boro hit the crossbar after 35 minutes with a header.

Oh dear! Azeryk catches a Leeds defender with his elbow in the midst of a tussle for a ball. The ref decides to send him off, a decision that the Boro bench thought was very harsh. Early bath for Azeryk!

HT: Middlesbrough 0 v 0 Leeds Utd

Half Time Stats

50 minutes gone and the 10 men go ahead, Huth heading in a freekick from the left. 1-0

Huth is a rock at the back for the rest of the half, not letting Leeds have a decent shot on goal.

Umm, not ideal for Azeryk - remains to be seen how many matches he will miss and how this will affect player cam!!

El-Loco Bartinho has concussion and will be out for upto 2 weeks.

Ali Obeid is wanted by Sheff Utd.

The Champions League Quarter Finals have been completed:

(Nobody played in the first legs due to international commitments)

Samaras Taraldo played the whole match as PSV drew 0-0 at home to Man Utd (Freealdinho was not included in the match squad). Man Utd progress 4-1 on agg after thumping PSV at Old Trafford in the 1st leg.

Alvaro De Santiago played the whole game as Arsenal drew 0-0 away to Liverpool (Birkinaldo was an unused sub for Liverpool). This meant that Arsenal progress 4-0 on agg after destroying Liverpool in the first leg.

Pablo Gonzalez played the last 20 minutes as Real Madrid drew 0-0 at home to Valencia. Real Madrid progress 2-1 on agg.

De Santiago’s parent club Inter Milan also progressed through to the last four, beating Roma on away goals after a 4-4 agg scoreline.

So 4 superkids progress through to the Semi-Finals.

The Semi-Final draw is:

Inter Milan v Arsenal

Real Madrid v Man Utd

A very interesting draw, as it remains to be seen whether De Santiago can play against his parent club in the semis, which after his recent form would be a crushing blow to Arsenal’s chances.

The UEFA Cup Quarter Finals have been completed:

(Nobody played in the first legs due to international commitments)

Selim Atas scored as Athletico drew 1-1 at home to Chelsea (Koppers not in match day squad). However, that goal was not enough as with Chelsea winning the first leg 1-0, they progress 2-1 on agg.

Salman Al-Dahash also failed to make the next round, with Espanyol losing 2-1 away to Bordeaux to go out on agg by the same scoreline..

So only Koppers is still in with a chance of winning the UEFA Cup. The Semi-Final draw is:

Chelsea v Sampdoria

Bordeaux v Marseille

You would have to say that Chelsea are the stand out team left in the draw.

Don't seem to be playing for Chelsea. Need to move on I think. Porto is not really a bad choice for a hard defender. Portugese competition is just about the perfect training ground for a complete nutter like Hermandinho icon_smile.gif

Sat 2nd May: Celta (15th) v (2nd) Real Madrid – League Match

With the majority of teams in La Liga having only 1 round of matches left after this weekend (Real have 2 after this game), Real Madrid are one point behind Zaragoza with this game in hand. Importantly, Real have a better head to head record against Zaragoza.

Pablo Gonzalez starts upfront for Real Madrid and needs to make an appearance in the next 2 games as well if he is to pick up a winners medal if Real go on to become champions.

After 15 minutes Gonzalez plays the ball out to Sneijder on the left wing. After running with the ball he crosses for Higuain to head home for Real. 0-1.

Gonzalez has a shot from the edge of the area go just wide. 5 minutes later he has a long range shot tipped over the bar.

In injury time at the end of the half Gonzalez races onto a long ball over the top but his first time shot is pushed out by the keeper to safety.

Real dominated the half and deserve to lead at the break.

HT: Celta 0 v 1 Real Madrid

Half Time Stats

Gonzalez has shot after shot, but everytime it either goes just wide or the keeper saves well. It just doesn’t appear to be his day and after 72 minutes he is subbed for Raul.

After 79 minutes Raul plays in Higuain who powerfully finds the far corner. 0-2.

FT: Celta 0 v 2 Real Madrid

A good win for Real, but a harsh rating of 6 for Gonzalez, who did look dangerous throughout.

Lazio’s boss has criticised Tomaldinho for his recent lack of form (6-5-5-6-5) and you have to say he has a point!

Chaoconov is out for 2 weeks with a calf strain.

Prof Frink is out for a month with a sprained ankle. However, on the plus side Rangers have won the SPL. Prof Frink has played exactly 10 games, meaning he will receive a winners medal. Not that he will mind too much probably, but his old team Bournemouth have been relegated from League One in England.

As Tottenham won the Championship in England, Swinson receives a winners medal for efforts on loan there.

The Champions League Semi Final 2nd Legs were this week:

Pablo Gonzalez started and scored for Real Madrid, who after 90 minutes beat were leading Man Utd 2-1 away. This forced extra time as the agg scoreline was then 3-3. During extra time Man Utd scored, with the final score on the night being 2-2, meaning they went through 4-3 on agg. Freealdinho was not in the match day squad for victorious Utd.

De Santiago watched from the sidelines as Arsenal and Inter Milan produced another thriller, this time at the Emirates Stadium. The 2nd leg was won 3-2 by Arsenal thanks to an injury time winner by Bendtner, which forced extra time as the agg scoreline was then 5-5. No goals came during extra time, forcing penalties. Arsenal won 6-5 on penalties, with Inter missing their first sudden death penalty. This means that De Santiagocould play in the Champions League Final if he is recalled ahead of Lehmann.

The UEFA Cup Semi Final 2nd Legs were also this week:

Both Swinson + Koppers were unused subs as Chelsea won their 2nd leg 2-0 away to Sampdoria, to win 3-1 on agg.

In the other Semi Final Marseille won 2-1 at home to Bordeaux to win 3-2 on agg.

Sun 10th May: Real Madrid (1st) v (3rd) Osasuna – League Match

Pablo Gonzalez starts on the bench for the last league match of the season. Real Madrid only needs a draw to guarantee winning La Liga.

Casillas makes a great diving save to stop an Osasuna freekick after 10 minutes.

A silenced crowd at the Bernabeu in the first half is brought to life after 43 minutes when Raul curls a 20 yard shot into the top right hand corner of the goal. 1-0.

HT: Real Madrid 1 v 0 Getafe

With their title rivals Zaragoza losing 3-0 at home to Barcelona at half time, it looks almost certain that Real will win the league. Interesting thing is, even with Barcelona looking like winning the game, they are in 5th position in the league and look like missing out on the Champions League next season.

Real start to dominate Osasuna, with Van Nistelrooy twice scoring offside goals.

Gonzalez Intro

Gonzalez is brought on with about 10 minutes to go.

Having only been on the pitch for 5 minutes, Gonzalez scores an outrageous goal, lobbing the keeper from only 8 yards out and from an acute angle into the far side of the goal. 2-0.

Weds 20th May: Arsenal v Man Utd – Champions League Final

Line Ups

Alvaro De Santiago has been recalled by Arsenal and starts in goal for them. Unfortunately Freealdinho does not make the squad for Man Utd.

Arsenal have the early possession, twice coming close to taking the lead.

Plenty of shots in the first half, just a severe lack of shots on target.

De Santiago has only had to tip a ball over the bar – that’s the extent of his work in the first half.

HT: Arsenal 0 v 0 Man Utd

Half Time Stats

The off target shooting continues well into the second half. After 70 minutes it is starting to look like penalties.

Just as extra time looked a certainty, Clichy plays through Adebayor and one-on-one with the keeper he places it in the top corner of the net with just 10 seconds of normal time left. 1-0.

Man Utd could come up with nothing during injury time.
