FM13: Newcastle United - Alan Pardew and The Eight Year Plan.

I know what you mean.... when I had that amount I mentioned I actually became more picky with the transfers etc....I became paranoid about spending on the wrong player.....

My heart sinks when I get a tycoon takeover with a higher league club... takes the fun out of it :(

Of course it's fine when playing lower league as there is still lot's to do.

Newcastle United: 2016/17 - English and European Champions.

Transfers: Cash/Claused | Loans

Same principles used this season in buying in young players to develop. This year I had to trim the squad quite considerably. Bigirimana, Jon Williams and Parades would eventually be the names to go as I had to trim down to a 23 man League squad. Parades played around 10 or 12 times for my first team, but had developed into a quite a player, and following a loan spell where he set alight the Championship with QPR there was quite some interest in him. As I offered him out starting at £40M, planning to work my way down to something around £20M Atletico Madrid came in for him at a deal worth £28M - so I snatched their hand of for him at that price. Bigirimana was heading into the final year on his deal, and wasn't really going to feature in my plans. Hasn't ever really featured and has developed out on loan quite a bit over the seasons, similar with Williams; he was now too old to get in the squad as an U21 so had to be sold on. Debuchy was still a first team player and having a very good season ahead of his sale, but the arrival of Danilo with Santon meant I had to move on Debuchy while his price was still good. Khalid Yilidrim was signed on a compensation fee of £1.1M to years prior from Real Madrid - he'd developed into a player ready for first team football, but wasn't going to get it at Newcastle so was sold on.

Transfers coming in are all young regens, with three Brazilian's finaly arriving after being signed as 16 year olds. Screenshots all taken after their first season with me as doing this update after the actual season, not like the usual before hand. Dale Lampkin cost me a fortune, but seems to one of the best of his generation, so cost me a fair bit to save him from Man City's dumping ground. Danilo's worth a look at. He played against me for Fluminese in the World Club Cup a couple of years ago, and has had a very good season in his first year in England - 19 now, and will more than likely be the best attacking right back in the world by he's 21.

Just won the Prem and Europa League in my first full season / second season with my Toon side.

- Cisse, Coloccini, Yanga-Mbiwa and Wanyama were amazing

- Sissoko got an average rating of 8.1 and won PFA Player of the Year. A week later Carver says he is considered more a rotation option than key player - WTF!

- Signing Jordie Clasie on a free and aiming for Lewandowski when his contract runs out

- I have the option to sign Sterling for £15m, should I?

- Ben Arfa got injured in the last 2 months and his stats decreased massively, same happened with S.Taylor

Started a Newcastle game, and it's going pretty well.

Currently lying 6th in January, and finished 1st in my Euro League Group consisting of me, Inter, Stuttgart and Slovan Liberec.

I have sold only Hatem Ben Arfa for £20 million to Manchester City, as he got upset and wanted to leave.

In January I have brought in three players:

Abel Hernandez, Palermo for £4,1 million

Ezequiel Munoz, Palermo for £6 million

Andrea Poli, Sampdoria for £6 million

Cabaye is most likely leaving within the next few weeks, as he wants to move and I can't talk him out of it. There's plenty of clubs interested, so I'll just have to get the best deal out of it.

I've seen a couple screenshots of a fabolous Adam Campbell in here. How do you make him a world class striker? Can some of you please describe how you do? Tutoring, training etc.

I'm in the 3rd season and he hasn't exactly set the word alight. In fact his attributes are still poor.

I'm inclined to agree with you on that front, I was delighted to get a huge sugar daddy takeover on an earlier version of FM but in the long run it made the save less fun and I was buying players I didn't need just to spend some of the cash. Anyway if you keep Newcastle in the upper reaches of the league and keep control of the wage structure the club should be making plenty money in the long run plus makes it more worthwhile investing in your scouts and backroom staff.

I unsettled him at Porto and he got put on the transfer list. Iirc it was about £12m.

N'Kolou was going for £16m I wanted him to replace Colo but Man City won the race. Lewandowski is a free agent and he wants 120k a week! Offered him it, but he'll understandably go to Real Madrid :(

Heavy poacher training from the start works the best, alongside high determination tutors. Had Cisse do it, then Abel Hernandez and he's developing nicely.

If you can pick up Fernando Torres on loan from Chelsea he made a great impact on Campbell's mental attributes after tutoring him for a season. I saw someone got Eduardo the former Arsenal striker in to tutor him, he's probably a great shout for that job too. I had him focus on physical training in the first season and largely had him focus on the Poacher role since then. Most importantly give him some games in your first team, he definitely kicks on if given a run.

He'll never have amazing attributes in all areas but he will turn into an amazing speed merchant poacher with fantastic attributes in the key areas for the role.

A full month without FM - it wasn't pretty.

First game back is a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the CL first knock-out round. Campbell got them both, but missed a 90th minute penalty; hopefully I won't live to regret that.

And Ben Arfa's back! Transfer listed for £2.5m by Man Utd - yes, please. 3 starts, 3 goals so far.

Thanks for the advises about Campbell. How much should he play in the first couple of seasons? And there are two choices for tutoring. Which do you use?

Heavy poaching? Always heavy training for youngsters?

Read through the thread. There are dozens of posts on how to develop Campbell. Nothing revolutionary , just basics of developing players on FM.

Tutor with a player who will increase his proffesionalism.

Train him the way you want his game to develop.

Play him, and play him so more.

Campbell's of such a PA that even a monkey could develop him really.

Oh, 3 seasons in, should have probably thought about getting something out of him a bit earlier too.

Just because you have a sugar daddy take over your club, you don't have to spend the money. It makes the save easier in having a free choice of targets, but I've more money that I can spend at the moment - £180M transfers; but making substantial profits year on year through not spending on big transfers, and making profits in the transfer market - has certainly gone a long way to being able to persuade my owner into building a new stadium I think.

No I didn't HAVE to spend it really...just felt bad watching the millions sitting there unwanted and unloved in the bank when they could be out making new friends you know :D

But I definitely prefer the slightly smaller scale club owner on a save nowadays...just changing tastes really.

Had a little crisis at the back, out of Taylor, Caulker, Colo and MYM only MYM was fully fit going into a game against Wolves. Colo partnered him but was down to 60% by half time due to only starting on 95% and just being back from injury. On came Craig Lewis at half time, a lad who only came through my academy in the summer. He didn't have to do a lot that game, we won 7-0.

The next game was against Ajax though, and with Colo out and Caulker only fit for the bench, Lewis made his full debut against the dutch giants.

NewcastlevAjax_PitchSplit_zpsa6314acf.png

If that doesn't make him an instant fan favourite I don't know what will. Certainly looks to be a bright future for him

loving my newcastle game (not sure the missus is!) Currently in third season (December), finish fourth in season 2, but Chelsea won the champions league and finished sixth so i missed out #gutted! Anyway laying in 3rd atm and won all of my europa league group games, i've got Inter in the first knockout. Adam Campbell has started his emergence, didn't think he was going to, but Remie Streete has been a revelation along side papadopoulos. two other players who have been impressive are Tom Ince and Ross Barkley.

Long time since I browsed this thread!! Some of you still going very soundly. Haven't had a NUFC save since the start of FM(the one that broken). Since then, I have completed the Pentagon(one of those proud moments as a FM player), and have a Benelux challenge on the go. But, may have to get a NUFC save going, not even looked at the new-look side in-game!!

Looking at Halilovic as a long-term replacement for HBA....any thoughts? Or any other backup/similar players? Just starting 1st season, same £3.2m budgets, hopefully will be closer to £6m-£7m soon.

Transfers are done(pretty much), and just one first team player in. Lazar Markovic as backup for HBA on AMR. Also signed Jari Litmanen(purely for tutoring), Zakaria Bakkali(£600k), Tristan Berghuis(£500k) and Alessio Romagnoli(loan, £6.25m buy clause). Made £11.75m in outgoing players, which helped me greatly! Also have Halilovic joining at the end of next(2nd) season.

0yZzsoG.png

Got Cisse tutoring Campbell, Litmanen tutoring Berghuis, Coloccini tutoring Streete.

This is the tactic I reckon suits the squad best. It's a modified version of the tactic that led me to success with both Santos Laguna and Shanghai Shenhua -

trunks26 I managed to get it on appeal. It is the first time I have had it accepted too. I hope that Halilovic will get a fair bit of game time at Dinamo before I sign him, less for me to do! I am tempted to bring in another striker, but with my formations being mainly 1 man up top, I reckon I can get by with Cisse, Ameobi, Gouffran, along with Campbell and Markovic if I need to. First match is against Arsenal, followed by Soton, and then EL vs Motherwell.

Yeah, looks a great Trequartista/Inside Forward type of player. Really hoping Romagnoli improves over the season, as he was an integral part of my Italian World Cup winning side in 2018 on another save. Just couldn't buy him as he was at Man City earning stupid cash. Hopefully will improve enough for us to buy him, and replace Steven Taylor.

Opened my Newcastle career with a 3-0 win over Arsenal. Two from Cisse and one from Cabaye. Went out expecting to lose, so I set up to win. Worked a treat, as we created plenty of chances on the game. Did get carved open once or twice, but Giroud was terrible.

Also looks like Danny Simpson will be a late departure this summer. May just wing it with Debuchy, and Santon as cover, as there isn't much in the way of DR on the market.

Quite a few people seem to have had a lot of joy with Lallana, so probably worth getting if you have the chance. Jonas is one of the real life squad I'd consider 'expendable' if you need to raise cash. Having said that he seems to exceed in game expectations for me when he does play regularly :p.

Sounds like you're off to a pretty good start so far though

On my original save I've finally won the Champions League in the 14/15 season, with 6 players existing from the beginning - Krul, Santon, Taylor, Tiote, Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa with Cisse, Anita and Campbell on the bench.

I beat Arsenal 1-0, Tiote got sent off in the 91st min and Cabaye scored a penalty in the 93rd lol. I also won the league by a point having wrapped it up a few weeks before I played my youth side.

Signed Muller and Doumbia on frees for next season as well :)

Apparently someone at Chelsea has had a nervous breakdown. This year they've sold El Shaarawy, David Luiz, Juan Mata, Ahmed Musa, David Alaba, Lars Bender, Douglas Costa and Eden Hazard. In return they've brought in Aaron Ramsey, Martin Kelly, and some pretty average regen CB.

That is a crazy list of sales though

So, I have decided to restart my NUFC game with the updated Jan transfers. I kept my favoured 4-2-3-1 tactics

Defence: 2 ball playing central defenders and two attacking fullbacks that can cross in that ball

Midfield: One defensive ball winning box to box alongside a deep lying playmaker.

Attacking Midfielders: Two Inside forwarders swapping sides and one supporting Advanced playmaker

Striker: One attacking advanced forward

I permitted myself 3 purple buys: PEA, Sakho and Siem de Jong (as they are my dream buys this summer). As the window drew to a close I was able to snag Berghuis, Fierro and Jano on the “cheap” as well. Out went Simmo, Obertan and Gutti (Gutti going for a price tag of 12M) to try and balance the books a little.

My aim was to fight for Europe and come the winter I was in with a shout, but injuries were decimating my squad, and then came the ACoN, so in came Adam Maher and Allione, with Willo leaving . In fact, come the end of the season we finished 3rd, a long way off from 1st, but in to the champions league. Domestic cups were nothing to shout about but the Europa League was rather more a success in that we won it.

The following summer saw us bring in Ninis and Marin on the cheap for the first squad, along with Tomas Martinez, Daniele Rugani, Lorenzo Tassi, Alen Halilovic for back up and 5 newgens for the future. Out went Tiote (picked up too many reds), Colo, Gosling, Shola and Amalfitano. Net spend was a profit of 8M. In winter I brought in another 5 newgens for the future at a cost of 2M along with K Honda on a freebie.

This season though was not so successful though, dropping to a lowly 5th, due to the toll of taken on the Champions League. So next season was going to be a matter of a rebuild. We managed to make it through to the quarter finals of the CL.

That next summer we brought in 5 newgens for 20M along C Eriksen on another freebie. Paying for that was essentially Rob Elliot, Tavs, Anita, Gouffran and Marveaux for a combined fee of 37M. Just before the winter break we were taken over by a local business man who decided not to invest any money, so big money buys will need to be a lot less in coming forth going forward. During the winter break I brought in 3 newgens for 16M, subsidised by the sales of Marin and Saylor for 12M. Now, just need to concentrate on Champions League qualification (currently 3rd with 10 games left).

The only issue I have is based on goal scoring. I am playing the % game, having a high number of shots and a good number on target, but I am low on actual amount scored. Any ideas on how to improve my usage of the striker or the 3 AMCs???

Seems this place has become fairly inactive recently. Hello again.

Been months (probably) since i last posted in here. I gave up on my Newcastle save because i hit horrid form and looked set to finish 4th and lose the FA Cup in my 3rd season (having won the PL in season 2). Finally went back to it a few days ago for some reason. Held onto 3rd comfortably but lost the FA Cup final to Arsenal. Ah well. New season, hoping to do much better. Sold a few players (Tommo will be proud ;)) and made a lot of money. Arguably weakened the side but this group I have plays football the way I want and we have a more together feeling in the dressing room (team spirit or whatever it's called under the 'Confidence' tab is at its highest ever for me).

Sitting 2nd after 21 games, 1 point behind United, even with City, and then 4th and 5th are right behind. Chelsea four behind 1st, Arsenal three behind. Tight at the top. I've recently climbed up - I was sitting 5th only five weeks ago and I'm now 2nd

I doubt many of you will remember me (or my save) but a quick run-down of what's happened over the years:

Season | Premier League | Capital One Cup | FA Cup | European Competition
'12-13 | 3rd | 3rd Round | Winners | Europa League Groups
'13-14 | 1st | 3rd Round | 3rd Round | Champions League QF
'14-15 | 3rd | Winners | Finalists | Champions League 1st Rnd
'15-16 | 2nd* | 3rd Round | 4th Round* | Champions League 1st Rnd*

*- still in competition

Team is looking great too.

Position | Starter | Back-up
---------|-----------------------|---------------
GK | Tim Krul | Ross Turnbull
RB | Hugo Mallo | Mathieu Debuchy
  RCB | Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa | Toby Alderweireld
LCB | Kyriakos Papadopoulos | Remie Streete
LB | Davide Santon | Massadio Haidara
DMC | Vurnon Anita | Pangiotis Tachtsidis
MCR | Denys Garmash | Jordy Clasie
MCL | Clement Chantome | Victor Petrov*
AMR | Abel Hernandez | Antoine Griezmann
AML | Viktor Fischer | Alessandro Florenzi
ST | Stevan Jovetic | Neal Maupay

*- regen

Neal Maupay, Jordy Clasie, Pangiotis Tachtsidis and Victor Petrov were all free transfers and came in this season. Florenzi is the only other new transfer to the side - I sign him in January for £8.5M, selling Adam Lallana to Hull for £7M.

Only a few have been sold this season compared to the last few. Steven Taylor and Nathan Redmond both left to go to Aston Villa for £2.5M and £5M respectively. Moussa Sissoko left for Bayern Munchen for £20M and McDonald Mariga left for Stoke for £10M (I signed him on a free two seasons ago so this is great business).

Team is superb. Only two out of them all who are underperforming are Maupay (still young) and Debuchy (barely getting to play tbf). Oh and Turnbull hasn't played once at all but I'm not bothered about that.

Next summer I have Marc-André ter Stegen coming in on a free transfer. I think I'll sell Krul for a huge fee because trying to balance ter Stegen and Krul and keep both happy is going to be very tough.

Nice work

Haven't been playing too much of late, been having the odd few games here and there - but lost interest in the save a while ago.

Major problem I find with FM, game gets too easy too quickly - I've filled my development squads up with world class regens really easily, and have no real challenge financially anymore :(

Will carry on over next week or so - determined for Campbell to break Shearer's record, think he needs 50 or so more. New 90,000+ stadium for next season, and World Cup in the summer (2018) - got Wayne Rooney to break 100 International goals on that front.

Playing a 424 now - have a quality regen who's a complete forward so have paired with Campbell.

Krul

Danilo* Chalobah Umtiti Shaw

Cabaye Wilshere

Ben Arfa....-----...........El Shaarawy

Campbell Redmile*

Haven't been on much myself, got dragged back into Guild Wars 2 and various free to play games, just haven't been able to devote time to FM for last few weeks.

I've started up a new save with Everton, but I'll have to try and get back into my Newcastle game at some point over the summer.

Just lost a 28 game undefeated streak, in my 201st game in management, to Barcelona 3-2 in the Last 16. I was leading 0-2 as well, in the Nou Camp. They got a penalty which wasn't a penalty, I criticised the referees and UEFA didn't penalise me. Go figure.

Angry that we lost but even angrier to lose it the way we did. Next up is a game against United, winner goes top, basically. At Old Trafford. Jesus.

e: Just beat Man United at OT to go top of the league for the first time this season  0-1, Antoine Griezmann netting the only goal twenty minutes from time. Remie Streete won MOTM. He's really come into the team, still hasn't fully developed but is outperforming his attributes and has been my best CB this season by Avg. Rating (although MYM has played almost double the games and his rating is almost as good tbf).

Also, regarding my loss to Barcelona:

Barcelona given controversial penalty

Authorities silent over criticism
