SeanNUFC
Gerrards wishes he could be as good as Pirlo. Surprised there's a thread on this! Maybe if he was as good we would control games better.
ham_aka_stam
He's a more advanced player, it's a pointless comparison. This, but I voted Pirlo anyone just to play with bluebirds.
Avelives
Pirlo is definitely worse than he was a few years ago tbf but it gives you an idea of how incredible he was at his peak. It's just that nobody in the UK bothered to take any notice until now. Ive been aware of Pirlo for some time, always thought he was one of Milans better players, but apparently he had a bad year last time round which is why they released him. My wider point is that even 3 years ago he was old for a midfielder (30) I just perceive him as similar to Scott Parker in the sense that the early part of his career was a warm up for the latter part (though clearly hes MUCH better than Parker just comparing their relative paths in the game)
Zvonimir Boban
How would we have taken any notice of him? Italian football isn't shown, he isn't a top goalscorer that makes it in to the media headlines, the only way anyone would see anything of him would be in the odd Champions League game. Well despite not watching any Italian footy the average fan would recognise most of the names from the Milan teams from those days but basically he was always overlooked in favour of other players who were more 'fashionable' (for want of a better word) because those were the days before the world had gone crazy for tiki-taka. Hence the average fan and pundit focussed on the likes of Kaka running half the length of the pitch before scoring, Pippo being offside and moaning a lot and Maldini being the most handsomest thing ever even though Pirlo was always the main creative force for Milan. ganzetto
Pirlo started his career in Brescia, playing as a playmaker behind the strikers. After an excellent 1999 for Inter, suffers a bad injury, and in 2001 passed to Milan. Here found champions like Seedorf and Rui Costa and can not find the right position on the field. Then Mr. Ancelotti backs him in midfield in front of the line of defense in the classic role of playmaker. In 2009 and 2010 has undergone a series of injuries and played little. In the logic of breaking down the mountain engagements, to lower the age of the team, and not trusting more than one player "already worn", AC Milan has not renewed the contract. This year he moved to Juventus, where Mr. Antonio Conte has entrusted the midfield, supported by Marchisio with the role of shoulder coverage. Antonio Conte has regenerated physically, made him more muscular, with more breath and pressing, in the spirit of Juventus, which runs for 90 minutes across the pitch. Council for Germany. If you want to stop Pirlo, Marchisio also must be stopped.

CloudYildiz
IMO Pirlo's the better player but i think in about 10 years or 20 years when asked who's the more known player it will be Gerard due to his memorable goals and the Liverpool commercials which Pirlo lacks.
x42bn6
I think it's fairly obvious that Gerrard is better than Pirlo at being Gerrard. Thankfully, most people instead try to judge the two on fairer grounds.

georginho_juventusygr
People deciding a whole career based on a penalty kick ffs.Istanbul, Millenium Stadia etc should immediately make him better. Expected so much better. Im talking career, individual and on a personal level. Pirlo can't even defend or run ffs Cleared the ball off the line today. At least for today, he could defend. Icelander83
Montolivo was better today. Does that then establish that Montolivo is better than Gerrard?

DMaster2
Pirlo. No doubt. Technically it's superior. It had won much more than Gerrard in his career (both for Italy and his clubs i add, poor England).
Icelander83
In the Pirlo role or Gerrad role anothe role? In bluebirds world of non-reason I don't think that's actually relevant So heck, he might be better in goal for all I know
Zvonimir Boban
Cleared the ball off the line today. At least for today, he could defend. Had more interceptions than any player on either team in the game against England, he can do it all
RubenJ
but Pirlo does not have that eternal look of agony on his face like Gerrard, so he can't be better surely?!

georginho_juventusygr
I saw him tonight, yes. He still made great passes. It was nothing because Italy didn't score, but Pirlo ran and passed. Plus, he also made that crucial tackle. So, also for today, he could defend, yes. Are you drunk again or something?

georginho_juventusygr
But you do agree that in the tournament as a whole, Pirlo was better than Gerrard? Your team of the tournament has the former and not the latter.
bluebirds4life
I only put him in for his penalty, Khedira or Moutinho would have been ahead, as would most if he didn't score that pen.
