Isn't the voting for POTY done in January anyway? So Bale's got little chance I'd assume based on that. Likely RvP.

Just looking at our remaining fixtures there, this is where BR needs to put the results where his mouth is. We've got Spurs, Chelsea and Everton to come, plus Reading, Villa, Southampton, QPR and Newcastle who will all be fighting hard to stay away from relegation. Not an easy run in at all, but we've really got to show up if we want 4th or 5th place. A draw this afternoon would be nice too.

This time last year, same games, we had same points as now. However, we only went on to gain another 10 points from the remaining 10 games. 1 point per game, which is relegation form.

That's interesting, 9 points better off fixture for fixture yet equal points game for game. Any chance you could put that in the table for the rest of the season?

Yeah, I'll give it a go if the code doesn't die on me.

Incidentally, despite Spurs being labelled 'great' this year, they're two points worse off than last year.

People are aware that Skrtel is carrying a knock and that's why he isn't in the team at all atm?

I thought commentator said despite recovering he is not in the squad for today's game. I may have misheard. Looking forward to next weeks game but don't think we will win. I think we have dropped 10 points this season. Villa, stoke, WBA and Newcastle at home.

Think a certain league cup was the reason for that.

Plus you played Spurs and Man U and got one point from those games.

We've been in Europe this season though, and Suarez, for example, is only one game off his total for last season.

it will also be the first time this season we've won 3 league games back to back...

It is a difficult one to judge. As you said, there isn't a reason why we can't but it won't be easy. Everything will revolve around Bale as expected. If we keep him as quiet as we did last season then we stand a much better chance because he is their main threat. I would personally be happy with a draw.

while recent results have got me more optimistic, i can just see the result next week being a disappointment. we haven’t been consistent winners in a while and i find it difficult to believe that now is the time it starts. i do hope i am wrong.

can't believe we got coutinho with so little fuss, he's got so much quality. as has been said, need to see how he copes against a team that will actually put up a fight though :D.

his ability is there for all to see though can't doubt that. alot more creative and intelligent on the ball than i thought he'd be.

Liverpool have announced their latest financial figures on Liverpoolfc.com on Monday morning with the results showing net debt at the club has increased to £87.2m but turnover increased by £5m during the period from 1 August 2011 to 31 May 2012.

The Reds changed their financial year to run alongside the Premier League season and the club claim they remain fully focussed on improving revenue streams, with turnover up by £5m despite not playing in Europe during the financial period.

The increase from the equivalent 12-month period was largely down to an increase in the number of domestic games Liverpool played and Managing Director Ian Ayre told the clubs official website that the results show the club is continuing to make good progress off the field despite a global recession:

“These financial results are now up to 18 months old and show that we have made some good progress towards putting the financial health of the club on a firmer footing. Although we didn’t play in a European competition, we had great success in both domestic competitions which gave a boost to our revenue. In addition, areas like our commercial partnerships continued to grow, despite a global recession.”

“For the equivalent 12 month period, the club’s unaudited turnover has increased by £5million and we were delighted to further strengthen our portfolio of commercial partnerships as we continued to focus on growing successfully at home and internationally.

However, while turnover may have increased, the club’s net debt also increased by £21.8m to £87.2m mainly due to money spent on new players and signing existing players to new contracts. Liverpool revealed that owners FSG injected a further £46.6m into the club via a non-interest bearing intercompany loan, and credit facilities were also refinanced with three major banks to provide £120m over three years.

The club also spent just over £9.5m in ‘exceptional payments’ relating to stadium project costs, general restructuring costs and costs relating to senior employees that had left the club. Ayre added:

“During the period we signed seven new players including Jose Enrique and Sebastian Coates, extended five player contracts including Steven Gerrard and signed eight players from scholar to professional contracts, demonstrating the club’s commitment to youth talent. In addition three players were loaned out and eight players transferred out. As part of our transition, we also implemented a new transfer strategy, ensuring we bring in talented players on sensible contracts that provide value to the club.”

“A lot has happened since the reporting period. Some new players joined the club during the summer and January transfer window which has added depth and strength to the team on the pitch.

“Off the pitch, we forged new partnerships with Warrior, Garuda and Chevrolet – the revenue from these contracts will show in the 2013-14 financial accounts; however, these partnerships continue to demonstrate the strength and reach of the LFC brand.

“We have further strengthened the team with new appointments including Mike Cox, director of merchandising, Billy Hogan, chief commercial officer, and Matthew Baxter, chief media officer – all three bring a depth and wealth of relevant global business experience which will further fuel our desire to grow internationally in key markets.

“We continue to invest in our digital platforms and more recently established 10 new international Twitter feeds in local languages to further engage our global fan base. LFC is now the most active football club on Twitter throughout the world.”

Overall, Ayre was pleased with the results and claims they show the club is continuing to grow its revenue streams and build a solid and sustainable business model. He added:

“These financial results show that we are continuing to improve revenues while managing our cost base and day-to-day operations more effectively and are testament to the hard work and dedication of the board, senior management team and staff right across the club. Any business transition takes time and dedication and we will all remain focused on building a solid and sustainable operating business model which we can build on and further strengthen what we started with Fenway Sports Group over two years ago.” Ayre told Liverpoolfc.com

Joe Cole - labelled a bone idle, money-grabbing, two-faced mercenary, lying scumbag by some - says he had no connection with Liverpool or anything to do with the club and only signed for us because he couldn't turn out for a club that rivaled West Ham.

The Kop flop drained Liverpool out of millions of pounds and never put a decent shift in during his time with the club and having received a tidy pay-off to leave Anfield, the player has now stuck the knife in on his former employers by admitting he lied when he was interviewed about his 2010 transfer to Liverpool.

Back in July 2010, Cole said: "I know I have made the right decision and I am looking forward to the challenge. I have played in London all my life. I could have stayed at Chelsea because the fans loved me and I won things, but I wanted to challenge myself and when I knew Liverpool were interested it was a no-brainer because they are the biggest club in the country."

However, Cole now claims he lied just to get the fans on side and insists Liverpool aren't a big club at all. In a recent interview, Cole claims the headline that he'd joined one of the biggest clubs in the country was made up and that the words were put in his mouth.

Chelsea and Liverpool reject Cole said: "I can only play for teams that I'm passionate about and I think that's what went wrong for me at Liverpool.

"I didn't feel a connection with the club or the place that I had at Chelsea and West Ham.

"I had seven great years at Chelsea but the club wanted to go in a certain direction and I wasn't involved. So I was left with two real options - Liverpool or Spurs.

"Spurs was probably the best option because they were offering me a five-year deal and it meant I could stay in familiar surroundings. But I just couldn't do it, I just couldn't see myself pulling that Spurs shirt over my head. With the rivalry between Spurs and West Ham and Chelsea, it felt a bit mercenary.

"When I joined, the guy interviewing me said 'you've joined the biggest club in the country' and reeled off the trophies they'd won. I just said 'yeah, if you put it like that, I suppose you're right' and Liverpool used that as the headline to the interview.

"I didn't want to upset anyone so I just went along with it. But obviously they're not the biggest club in the country any more. How do you judge how big a club are? Nottingham Forest won the European Cup twice but they're not a bigger club than Chelsea."

what a ****** article, why on earth would you think that was worth posting? the fury and bias in the writer's lines is not at all supported by those quotes, which are pretty reasonable. i hope that's not from any serious publication
The article is from Koptalk. This site about Koptalk explains a few things about that particular site.

Which of those quotes by Cole don't people agree with?

Worth pointing out regarding the Joe Cole thing, that if we have to sell or big up our club to a player in order to get him to sign, then he probably shouldn't be signing for us. You need players coming in who are ready to put a shift in for the shirt, not ones who are expecting things to happen because they've been fed a load of blurb in some interview.

I actually quite liked Cole though, i just think he had a lot of bad luck with us and was just a bit of a mismatch in the end.
