Famous FM fans?

58 posts in this topic

Hi all,

Putting together a project and just wondering if people knew of any other famous, including non-footballing, people who are Football Manager fans? I know Plan B was, anybody think of anybody else?

Any help would be ace!

Taaaaaaaa

There's loads of famous FM fans, even if you don't count footballers themselves.

I imagine Rooney would be the type of guy who'd buy FM just to see how good he is on it each year.

Joey Barton keeps tweeting about actual real life transfers and how he wouldnt have done that in FM... horrifically stupid but incredibly enterntaining man.

Welshace - don't know where you heard that he does, but Dara doesn't play FM.

The others listed on the thread so far do, or have done over the years.

Pointermum - see above. Am fascinated to know where that rumour has come from, or where he's said it.

I know he hosted the launch of FM10 - but not sure if he plays it.

Wasn't Gordon Strachan seen with a copy of FM? I'm only going by Wiki so it could be a load of bull.

He doesn't strike me as the type to spend hours at his PC/Laptop playing FM.

What launch of FM10 was that, Eugene?

Ant & Dec.

They used to have a show with a bit in it called Challenge Ant. It went something along the lines of the contestant could win FM from Ant, and he looked genuinely devastated. Pretty sure I didn't dream that.

I think Eugene is confusing hosting the 2010 British Academy Video Game Awards, with a FM10 launch...

tbf I think there is a reasonable chance of Dara playing FM, he is a self confessed big gaming fan and also likes football. Where do those two meet on a Venn diagram? Fifa and FM.

Sorry bout that - yes those awards.

I usually research these things but laziness got the better of me.

Ricky Hatton used to play a little bit. I got him into it when he came round once in the early 2000's.

I remember hearing Robbie Williams claim he liked to play it. I think Ashley Cole said the same too.

Dara o Briain is a fan

I thought he was more the action/shooter game type of guy (gears of war, mgs, mass effect)

Explains his weight between fights, too many hours sat at his laptop rather than going down to the gym.

Is it verboten to mention FIFA? I was pretty surprised to discover that one of the South Park creators (I forget which) is a massive FIFA player.

Glen Johnson, Micah Richards, Kyle Walker have all mentioned playing it in the past.

England right-backs ftw?

Paolo Maldini has played it in the past as well.

Albertini played it, he was asked to fire his lap top up by the Italy manager so he could see who some of the young players were. It was that game when Peter Taylor was in charge , i think.

I'm sure there are plenty of famous footballers who have played the game a little bit before if just for curiosity's sake. I doubt there are too many who are legit fans of the series like most of us are here though.

You'd be surprised, Miles is ever so proud that Ole Gunner Solkjaer is a huge FM fan.

Jon McClure absolutely loves it, I was supposed to interview him last year when he game to my uni but we just ended up talking about FM for 20 minutes. Got a right bollocking from my lecturer afterwards but it's not everyday you hear about a rock star's toils with Sheffield Wednesday.

Holden wasn't great at Counter-Strike. Nice lad though.

I don't know of any famous people who do who haven't been mentioned. I've asked a couple of footballers who've said they don't, which surprised me. Would put money on Gary Neville playing it though.
