Even if the player is 18, you need to check his date of birth.

For example, if you're in the first season of the game (summer 2011), the player needs to still be 18 after 01/01/2012 to be able to play. If he turns 19 before that date, he won't be able to be registered for the U19 squad. Would be better in that situation to move him to a feeder club or to Valencia Mestalla (the B team who play in 2ªB3).

That might be difficult outside the transfer windows and squad registration periods. Once the Valencia Mestalla manager has filled his squad registration, he won't play. Unfortunately, he might just be past the age threshold that he's young enough, not to need registering.
