What PC Spec will i need to get the game speed & computer performance on 5 stars?

17 posts in this topic

Hi Everyone,

Looking at getting a new PC for Christmas and would really appreciate some advice?

I would like it to be able to run 3 or 4 leagues and a large database on 5 stars, not massively fussed on the 3D engine but would just like the game to fly as on my current laptop with just the English League loaded to league 1 the PC performance is half a star and game speed is 2 stars so very very slow.

I definately want a PC rather than a laptop and have a budget of around £400-£500

Has anyone seen anything that would work for me?

Thanks all in advance.

Hi Eugene,

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated, they all appear to be laptops, i was thinking of a desktop?

Ive searched lots of posts on similar topics but they all relate to laptops and cant find much on desktops?

I can't find a decent PC with a good enough graphics card to recommend - they are all expensive and below par graphics cards.

I don't be on UK pc sites - I know others here have a better idea of good sites for buying computers in the uk.

I assumed that a desktop would be more powerfull/faster than a laptop but if im woring then i have no issues with going for a laptop.

Eugene - if im searching around should i look for more Memory, processor or hard drive or all 3?

4 GB RAM minimum, HDD - as much as you need (500?, maybe less...only you can say), the rest must go to a decent processor and an external graphics card. There are quite a few sites for desktops custimization, look around and see what you can get for your budget.

I had a quick look and seems quite expensive, but so do laptops ... crap UK tech retailers - way overpriced in most cases.

... no idea what stars such a config would give you but should be good enough for a good gaming experience.

If you have to buy stuff like mouses, keyboards and monitors - you are better off buying a laptop instead (for 500 quid you can get alright laptop specs and can move it around the house...)

Processor is most important.

i3 is the lowest spec. i5 is midrange. And i7 is top class.

Stick to the i3/i5/i7 with 2xxx in the name. Look it up and see what the specs are. Look for Speed and Number of Cores.

A processor with 2.1ghz and 2 cores won't be as good as a processor with 1.7ghz and 4 cores (for example) post here if you're unsure.

RAM is next on the list. 4gb is good enough. But if you can get 6gb then I recommend that. Anymore is a waste unless you're doing a lot of video or hi-res image editing, imo.

Graphics card. Some are totally pants so look up the model number and most are described as "entry level" which means it sucks then you have "mid range" which usually means it's pretty decent. You can get "high quality" but these tend to be expensive and unnecessary.

If you are going to get a PC without a discrete GPU, you'll need a processor of SandyBridge architecture as they have the HD3000 chipset which is the best built-in graphics currently available. HD2000 is meh at best.

Hi, cheers for the reply but to be honest i have no idea what you mean? Im just looking to get a new PC that will also play FM as fast as possible for around £500 - £600?

Hey Pastie, thoroughly recommend the SB i5 2500k processor. It's the best out there in the range by some distance. This should be your starting point. Will make FM12 run like a dream.

From there you can get by with 4gb ram, with 250 or 500GB HD.

Graphics wise the i5 2500k has Intel 3000 integrated which will run FM12 just fine. If you are playing other games that absorb more graphics power then look to boost up.

I recommend Cougar Extreme who are based in Notts. You could get an i5 2500k for around 500 notes no problem. Depends on if you need screen, keyboard and what operating system (XP, windows 7 etc..) you are using/would like.
