Quickfire Questions and Answers Thread (Tactic and Training Questions Only)

I have attacking corners set as short and a player set as offer short option, but when certain players take the corner they just ignore it and whip it into the penalty area. Am i missing something obvious here ? or is it a hidden PPM - ignores managers instructions ?

It's one of the weak areas of MF for me. Whilst corner instructions aren't a binary Yes / No, they don't seem overly effective. A bit like some of the goalkeeper distribution types unfortunately.

433 DM wide formation

2 CM's are CM (A)

What should the DM be in your opinion? Defend or support? I'm siding with support so as to to reduce the gap between the CM's and DM. Worried the gap might be a little too big if he's on defend. I'll try both.

Defend, and then change one of the CMs to support. With both CMs on attack and the DM on support your defence will be left alone and it will be easy to counterattack on you.

Quick (possibly stupid) question, is it possible to alter a players aggression attribute? I signed what looked to be a good youngster on a free however I have noticed his aggression is 20, I was wondering if it was possible to reduce the straight in a way or is it stuck there?

When he gets red cards from fouls you can fine him and this sometimes drops his aggression by one point.

Quick question about training:

I have main training set to average, 20% allocated to match training, and individual focus workload set to average. For the first team squad, the workload is listed as average, and for most of the season when looking at a player's training page their individual workload has said average.

However, now all of a sudden the player workload has changed to heavy, and no settings have been altered as far as I know. I'm not too fussed as I'm not suffering a deluge of injuries or player complaints, but would just like to understand why it has happened. Incidentally, U18s and U21s have been heavy all season, but I'm lead to believe this is down to leaving training in control of the respective manager. Is this correct?

Different numbers of games and rest days in a week/month can change the workload without any change in your settings.

good night.

I was on this interesting thread

http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/403153-Building-A-Tactic-From-The-Beginning-And-Maintaining-It-Long-Term

Im about deciding which style my team would play. is it defensife, park bus, counter attacking, etc

I read there then conclude that One of most important things to consider is our player attribute.so my question is

1.do I just need too see whole team,or just my first team attribute?

2.how could I know the attribute is good or not?

for example,Iam managing huddersfield town. since its not top league, then rarely team have more than 16 in attribute. should I look another 20 team one by one to know how much does it need to say "good" or "not good" ?

Assuming that non of your players have a duty that automatically increases closing down, would team instruction of close down more have exactly the same in game effect as adding close down more as a player instruction for every player? As tactical familiarity has a separate closing down section I wondered whether the team would close down better as a unit if they all knew it was part of the team tactic rather than being told to do so individually.

use the compare function. Its under the team report tab IIRC. This will compare specific attributes of your first team squad to other teams in your league, and give you an idea of your advantages and disadvantages.

how about some other attribute that not listed there, how to compare my team with rest of other league team. like crossing, dribbling, bravery, etc?

Have just tried this out on one of my tactic that is fluid for all categories with Team Instruction Close down more. Removing Team instruction and adding close down more to every player as team instruction (apart from Goalkeeper for which this option is not available) resulted in my tactical fluidity for Closing down falling from 100/100 to 75/100 - a significant drop. Clearly seems that for ME you are best making it clear to the team (via TI) that you want them all closing down rather than instructing them to do so individually (via PI)......

Whats the best role to mimic a Box-to-Box role in the DMC position?

Probably box to box in the CM strata with a player at DM alongside him (not directly behind) to make the space to drop into, and still allowing him to roam forward.

Otherwise DM-S or BWM-S with some instructions (like Get Further Forward).

Kind of a two pronged stupid question:

Does having only a few instructions make your team player? It seems like having only 3/4 is more effective than having more, though I'd rather explain how to defend, press, attack and exploit with one tactic.

If so, does slowly adding more instructions as your players become accustomed to it work? This would be more realistic, I guess.

I so confused to create tactic for my team, what should I do?

I like to manage second divison club and want to bring them promotion. I try crewe, las palmas, huddersfield. none succesfull

Whenever I managing them I notice that my team is concede too easy.so I prefer defensife games. I want team like atletico madrid.but dont have any idea.they do counter tactic but do many tackle and pressing. I think pressing and hard tackle is too risky for deep defensife line.

so most of the time I just choose counter mentality, and using quick winger.but nothing sucesffull.. help me please.

What's the best role/instructions to use for a central lone AM if I want him to:

a) move towards the ball when it is in wide areas (to receive short passes from a winger that stays wide) and

b) move forward into the channels to draw central defenders out of the area (leaving more space for a static traditional centre forward and onrushing opposite winger), but also

C) do a decent job tracking back and bulking out the central midfield area when we don't have the ball?

Adv playmaker(S) or AM(S). For Adv playmaker, players will tend to look for him more than an AM. Add PI move into channels and roam from position. For C, if you think he is not tracking back enough, can use the man-marking to mark 1 of the CM.

What's the difference between using an attacking mentality (say, control for example) and using a less attacking mentality (Standard in this case) with team instrucions such as "play with a higher defensive line", "Higher Tempo", "More direct passing", "Close down much more"?

Basically just your width. There is also a difference in passing structure as Control would have slightly shorter passing at the back and more direct in attacking positions, but that's about it.

Does it really matter where do I put my special roles? For example, in a balanced fluidity, according to wwfan's "A Twelve Step Guide", I need roughly three "specialists", and given that balanced fluidity has three units (defend, support and attack), do I need to place them each one of them?

There aren't hard rules, no, just as you don't have to follow the guidelines if you don't want to.

Stupid frustrated question.....

Do I just politely forgo all further attempts at trying to get a striker to beat an offside trap and concede to possible imbalances in the ME and just throw in crosses for days?

Told you I was frustrated

You don't have to play a cross-oriented tactic, but attacks through the middle require a careful balance with how the opposition lines up defensively. In both FM and real life, successful defence-splitting through balls are rare, so with a narrower attack, you shouldn't put all of your eggs in that particular basket unless you're sure you're playing against an aggressive opponent deploying a very high line. Instead, you should look to use wide players who won't cross but will drag attackers wide and look to switch play back to the middle where, hopefully, your central players will have more time and space to do something. I also find that it helps to keep more of the midfield deeper to create depth between the opposition midfield and defence. The last thing you want to do is to push up aggressively and try to tip-toe/thread the ball through a well concentrated defensive wall.

But surely there are differences between the mentality structure in both systems right?

What i mean is this: Mentality determinates how defensive or attacking the team i set out plays. So if i raise the width, passing, tempo, closing down, defensive line, creative freedom, etc. all by one stage through team instructions (in a team on standard mentality) they would be set to play just as if i was using a team on a "control" mentality? Even if the team on standard has a lower mentality structure than the team on "control"?

They would still be more aggressive in various other ways, especially when you are in possession. Most notably, they would be more likely to play forward passes and the general forward movement of the team will be more aggressive.

And just to clarify, creative freedom isn't affected by the team mentality setting.

More or less, and this is exactly the point of it. Some people might like all settings bar one of Counter, so they could modify the defensive line (as an example). Some people might love most parts of Attacking but dislike the line and tempo, so they can tweak them. The purposes of TIs directly related to Mentality aren't to enable you to directly replicate one Mentality within another, as that would be pointless. They are there to allow you to refine Mentalities to better fit your vision.

Hi, I am playing FM15 after some years w/out playing FM.

I'm managing in Scotland. I control the main team, but the director of football manages the U20 team.

(which is fine) However, the U20's formation is modeled after mine. My formation is either a 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-1-1.

Which suits the first team, but I want the youth team to play as 4-4-2. How do I change it?

What's the difference between a whipped cross and a low cross? Which type will benefit a pacy striker more?

Whipped crosses are just crosses delivered with pace. They are less accurate but harder to defend. Even if they miss their target, they can prompt rash decisions or fall to another player.

Low crosses are what you would expect. It's a better option if you want to finesse it into the box directly to the feet of a teammate, but they'll be cleared easily if you play them into a crowded area.

So it depends on the situation. If you're looking to play on the break with the striker getting behind the defence, low crosses would be my preference. If you're playing against a deeper defense and trying to catch defenders flat-footed, whipped crosses might have a better chance of actually getting to your striker.

I wonder if you could run with a dual raumdeuter system.

Der Doppelraumdeuter ist perfectly feasible.

Anybody got attacking corners setting that cause a threat to opposition?

I managed to set my defensive corners, so I rarely concede, but I can't score any. Tried to copy the AI by setting it to near post and have my best headers to attack near post and near post flick on, but it just seems to not work.

I have 8 goals from corner in 31 games so far. Can try my set-up if you want.

Best man in jumping, heading and strength challenge GK.

2nd best as above to attack near post.

3rd best as above to attack far post.

Best long shooter to lure outside.

1 man(normally your short striker) stand far post.

1 man forward.

2 men(normally fullbacks) stay back.

1 man stay back if needed.

Corner aim: Default.

hi

I cant tell the difference between deep and high defensife line when team is do defence.. anybody can taught me how?

whenever I see team to defence, I almost always see all defnder in the box.. but not all team do deep defensife line I believe

Your defensive line is high or deep or in between whenever you have the ball in the opponent half. So when you are attacking down near the goal, look at where you defenders are sitting on the pitch. Same for when the AI is attacking you, look at how far their defense pushes up.

Hope this is the right place to post this.

I keep getting players complaining they're not getting enough coaching attention during training. How do I cure this problem exactly??

See which aspect they are moaning about then lower the coaches workload for that category, so that means adding someone else to it as well as the coach who is currently doing it just to make his workload lighter.

How many first team physios is needed for a regular Prem club? I started with 5 if you include the Head Physio, which is over half of the recommended first team staff.

I have 3 never any more.

Still working on this. Everything I'm trying so far results in the AM sprinting into the penalty area the moment the ball enters the final third out wide. Which is giving my wide players no option but to cross into a crowded penalty area despite all 'less crossing' instructions'.

I need a supporting player alongside my winger (preferably ahead), to both draw defenders out and offer a short passing option. The box to box CM behind isn't providing it either. Any ideas?

Okay I'll try that when I'm allowed to add more coaches. Thanks for your help
