dafuge's FM12 challenge

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to stop conceding a goal from a header won in the middle of the pitch? The sequence is, my keeper takes goal kick, opposition player wins header around centre circle, the header goes over the top of my centre backs to a perfectly timed run from the opposition striker who reaches the ball just outside the edge of the box and scores the goal.

How have you got your keeper's distribution set? I used to have the same problem so I switched to playing the ball out to the full backs. It's a much better way to keep possession (assuming you don't have a towering CM).

Darren1983 Kingstonian Premier League Seaon 2023/24 Review

Table Graph Transfers Squad

This was a really dull season, we started off badly and it took us 4 games to get a win. A few 4-5 games unbeaten through out the season ensured we pulled away from any sort of relegation battle but we never broke into the top 10 all season, and ended the seaon 11th (one place below last season) The cups were identical to last season as well, got to the 4th round of the FA Cup before losing to Man City and were beaten on Pens by Everton in the quater finals. Happy to have the season done with and on to the next season, looking at a spending spree to push us up the table and try to get into Europe

Harrow Borough | Season 2035/36 | Barclays Premier League

Table | Positions Graph | Squad | Finances | Transfers

For the second season running, I lost a star striker in the summer. This time, Bertolotti went to Spurs for a cool £13m. So I ended up buying three strikers, for a combined fee of nearly £30m.

And they were a success. £15m Ondjola was perhaps the least successful, but Messias can justly claim, at least within Harrow Stadium, to have replaced an "s" with an "h" - he is our Messiah. Responsible for one of the greatest nights in Harrow's history (see Cup Runs), his goals return was outstanding, and with 9 goals he was the Champions' League's top scorer despite a fairly early exit.

On that note...Cup Runs this year did of course take in the Champions' League for the first time.A 1-0 win in the San Siro created the first great European night for us, I think, although a few months later a 2-0 defeat to Inter there more or less ended our chances of going any further. For Messias to be the Champions' League Golden Boot winner having been knocked out at the first knockout stage is bizarre, but 9 goals in just seven games (plus one from the bench) tells its own story.

Both domestic cups saw us crash out in Round Four to clubs from Manchester - the red half in the league cup, and the blue in the FA Cup, the latter coming after a 1-0 win against United and a 2-0 defeat by City who thus beat us twice in just over a week.

In the league, unlike last season when getting into the Champions' League was a massive surprise, this year we hovered around third place all season. When, in late April, we beat Chelsea, not only did we secure a top-4 finish, but we put ourselves two points off the Blues at the top of the table. Could it be our year, perhaps?

Perhaps it should have been, but after dropping just four points in thirteen games up to the start of May, the last three games started with a disappointing performance against Spurs. The 4-0 win against Forest a week later was fine, but all in vain - Chelsea wrapped up the title by winning that day against Birmingham, who were already relegated. The disappointment must've affected them as we lost the last game to Birmingham, which cost us 2nd place, too. Wins against Spurs and Birmingham would have given us the title. I never expected to win it this year, but to get so close towards the end was disappointing.

Still, I bought really well this year, as evidenced by the signings of the season line.

Key Players

Messias - got injured just before the Spurs game. I think, had he been fit, we would be Champions.

Ondrej Jicha* - very impressive as ever - his goals tally belies his minutes to goals ratio as he was taken off a lot, so actually he scored in far more than one in two games.

Paul Clarke-Harris - will go to the European Championships even though England play without full-backs. This will limit his caps, but he is automatic choice at left-back if they ever change system. He is brilliant.

Jacky Jouan - this formation really does share goals around - three strikers getting 15 goals is impressive, right? 20 assists, too?? Jouan is awesome!

Jose Felix Cabello - every year I consider selling, but no....still awesome! Despite his advancing years, he covered more ground, both absolutely and per game, than anyone else.

Sergey Markevich - played more than anyone else this year - vital cog in the machine.

JOEL MIKIELA

His second spell came to an end in January, moving to Ipswich for £2.5m as Aaron Platnauer had taken his place and Konig is improving fast. This means I've made a total of £5.5m from transfers involving Mikiela having signed him on a free TWICE!

Next season, we need to start building towards getting into Europe regularly. This season was a step backwards really. Some of the dead wood needs to be shipped out whilst I must hold on to my star players, and get youngsters to start to groom into eventual replacements for them.

Targets for 2035/36

Europa League qualification again at the least. SUCCESS - and in fact we went one better by qualifying automatically for the CL. However, my nagging duct says we probably should have won the league this year.

Replace some of my ageing stars - particularly Cabello who has been amazing but is old now. FAILURE - I got in some good players but none for older ones. But Cabello continues to thrive, and looks like turning into a Paul Scholes-type evergreen.

Get into the Europa League by finishing 3rd in my CL group at least. SUCCESS - we got past the group stage!

Targets for 2036/37

Get to the Champions' League Quarter-Final at least.

Qualify for the 2037/8 Champions' League.

Win a domestic cup.

In other news, Real Madrid beat Arsenal in the Champions' League final, who were unable to add to their solitary Champions' League win seven years ago. It was their fifth final, too. That's not a good record in finals!

I can understand the board doing it. The money means a huge amount to the club and you're winning leagues by 25pts so it doesn't appear to be affecting your onfield performance either. Obviously, this only assumes that the money the board makes for selling the players goes back into the club by way of ground, training, etc improvements and transfer budget.

I don't mind the board doing it either, just that when I set an asking price with 'reject all offers' on its a bit of a pain. Most of the sales has been put into the compulsory stadium expansions, means I'm not in any debt which is good news I suppose. A small portion I reinvest, but then that gets turned into larger sales so its a nice cycle to have :)

Gypsum, that's unbelievable growth. Usually you might see that progression in one or two categories, not everything

Solid season there darren, I think if you can get amongst the European places, CL isn't out of reach looking at how tightly bunched the table is ;)

GOM, great season there, and last 16 isn't a bad first attempt at the CL either. Surely you'll avoid being in a tough group after one or two more seasons too. Do you think you can crack the title next season?

Apologies for the double post, but just easier this way. Again, I'm almost finished the next season so I hopefully won't be too long in between updates this time :p

Canvey Island - 2016/17 End of Season Update - CH

Ready for the big time? Let's find out ;)

League: (Positions) After back-to-back-to-back... (you get the idea) promotions, I thought this was the season to have a nice stable season, establish ourselves nicely for a promotion push next season with some experience. But apparently, our players are rather impatient and decided they wanted to join the big boys asap; well who am I to stop them? :D

With the usual early season scramble of everyone beating each other, we took some time to establish ourselves in the promotion race (I say promotion and not championship as Blackpool decided to go 10 points clear in the first 11 games...). From then on in it was almost a straight fight between us and Swansea for the 2nd spot, and we were almost home and dry before a run of 1 win in 6 in March almost scuppered our chances. However, they only managed 1 point in their last 3 games; enabling us to sneak back in the 2nd automatic spot.

Now, the big boys await.

Cups

FA Cup : Second successive cup exit to Norwich. Shame this was in the 3rd round though.

League Cup : Performance against Brentford - very good. Performance against Leyton Orient - worst of the season.

Squad (1)(2) and Transfers: Got to hand it to my scouts to find CH quality players in the lower-lower leagues. Emphasis on the Championship (and not PL).

Player of the Season : Delvin O'Brien - DC

How this guy only cost me £35K I don't know, but without scoring buckets of goals for a change we needed a strong defence. Hopefully he'll relish the challenge of the PL too.

Finances : Another compulsory stadium expansion, I think I need to stop doing so well for a while

Other Stuff : Got another couple of PL job offers, at Newcastle and Blackburn.

History:

2012-13: BSS - 1st

2013-14: BSP - 1st, FA Trophy Winners

2014-15: L2 - 1st, JPT Winners

2015-16: L1 - 1st, JPT Winners

2016-17: CH - 2nd

Home-nations challenge update: My drive to make an all Home-nations squad stumbled at the first hurdle, when goalkeeper Bogni, who I have been trying to sign for years, suddenly became available for a bargain £10m. But I managed to snap up a few promising British youngsters as well. Most notably, the towering striker Mark Gregory for £7.5m. But some decent young players in Welsh striker, Damien Griffiths. Playmaker Darren Williams. And pacy striker Tony Johnson.

Tooting & Mitcham United Football Club

2018/19 Season Review

npower Championship

Table|Graph|Transfers|Squad|Profile

UP UP, We're going UP!!!

Incredible season at Tooting & Mitcham. Bit the bullet at the end of last season, letting a large number of former first team players go, as well as losing Luongo after he wanted more money than I could afford. With some room opened up, I needed to bring in young talent but with a poor reputation and low wage cap, I had to get them from the Continent. First stop was defence, bringing in a new first choice centre back from France. Had two trialling and liked both but once suited my team better, so Rault was signed to partner Halilovic, creating a very strong central pillar with my team's best player, keeper Andrews who not only still wants to move to a bigger club (4 years running) but has now taken over the #1 role for Ireland, taking them to the Qtr Final of the 2018 World Cup (which I wasn't allowed to scout, despite it being in Russia, which I can scout).

Joining them down back was young promising cover in Tournier, who was joined in January by a very promising full back Falkenmayer. Due to HG rules, however, they both had to be used sparingly when the right combination of players allowed.

With Luongo leaving, two young replacements were found in Nistor and Petersen. Again, both had to take it in turns to start with the HG rules, with Jenkins the main stay in central midfield.

Up front, with Jung getting injured, we once again relied on Ansah who led the goal scoring, ahead of our towering centre-back Halilovic and the another young winger/striker in Wamba who improved on last year's poor showing somewhat.

The season itself was very straightforward after a draw and loss to start the season. Ourselves and Southampton dominated the league, pulling a long way clear by the half way stage of the season and when Sunderland drew we had secured promotion with 5 games remaining. Pushing the team on one more time, we won our final five league games to take the title ahead of Southampton who chased all the way with 13pts from their final 5 games. Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Bolton went into administration and the 10pt deduction meant they were relegated by a point, going to join Everton in League One next season.

Off-field, we also had a good season, with our training facilities undergoing improvement and our youth facilities earmarked for upgrade at the end of the season. We sold out our 8,000 seat stadium on a number of occasions this season, ending up with an ave attendance of 7,313. This allowed us to improve our financial position by around £1mill, despite the cost of the training upgrade and as you can see below, I've now made it to the Icon list at the club. Reputation wise, the club is now a 2 star regional, even managing to go ahead of 7 other Championship sides by the end of the season, despite not getting on TV once this season.

This should allow me to keep hold of Andrews again this year, hopefully we get to National next season like all the current EPL teams are (at least).

*Note, thanks Gypsum for the advice about keeper distribution, haven't conceded a goal to a midfield assist header since.

EDIT: I really should play forward another couple of weeks before doing season review. Board is spending £1.2m on youth facilities but the big news, out of nowhere, is that we're going to have an entirely new stadium, costing £14.25m with undersoil heating and a capacity of 13,276, which will be completed by the end of next season. Loan is for 15 years at £84/k month.

#81 - Kingstonian. Season '22-'23. Championship.

Kingstonian_FClogo.gif

League position: 2nd League table PROMOTED!

FA Cup: Quarter-final

League Cup: 3R

Summary: Seasons progress Squad A deserved promotion. We were in the automatic promotion spots for most of the season, and looked serious title contenders until we faltered in the spring while Norwich just kept on winning. A couple of good cup runs helped fill the bank, and the board announced the building of 18,000 capacity Kingstonian Stadium; grants and a loan with reasonable repayments provide the funding, so we are still healthy financially. Transfers in were mostly young prospects who have played bit parts in the season, except for Kevin Berger who weighed in with a few handy goals and assists, and Philipp Rogalski who was a snip at 150k for a top-flight ready 'keeper. Chelsea won the domestic treble with Chris Casper in charge.

Transfers: Transfers Mostly youngsters in, and lower-division standard players out, usually on frees. One notable departure was Karl-Heinz Kratz, strong attacking left-back sold to Gladbach for just £850k. The board accepted the offer as too good to refuse, although we are well in the black and that amount was derisory considered the potential he has. Very annoying. If I wasn't determined to complete the challenge I probably would have taken one of the many Championship job offers I've had, or gone to Spurs or West Ham at the end of the season - both top half Premier League sides who made offers to me. Damn loyalty!

Future prospects: Should survive next season, then see the benefits of the new stadium. The squad is mostly young and mostly talented, and aren't costing too much (yet!). A bit of strengthening down the left flank wouldn't go amiss.

Lars Schober - took over full-time from Bakary, looking good for the future and has a hell of a shot.

Karim Slama and Benik Afobe - my strike-force. They run hot and cold, if they are on form consistently next year then we should score enough to stay up.

Canvey Island - 2017/18 End of Season Update - PL

Almost upsetting the apple cart...

League: (Positions) After back-to-back-to-back-to back... (you still get the idea) promotions, this pre-season was one of the toughest to plan. Do I risk the current squad to beat three others and keep the continuity going, or go all out and make a crack at a good league position. I decided on the first approach, and let's just say it worked pretty well. ;)

I never dropped lower than 15th all season [and that only after the 2nd game], and the team performed brilliantly through most of the season. We beat the teams we needed to, got a decent amount of points against the mid-table sides and even some results against the big boys (including getting 4 points against Man Utd). The campaign was going so well that 2 wins from the last 4 games would've secured us a EL spot. However, we only managed a single point from these last 4, making us finish just outside the top 6. Still a great start to our PL life though.

Now to crack the top 6 properly.

Cups

FA Cup : Is this the first season that I've had some nice home ties in the FA Cup in the early rounds? Made us easily cruise into the QFs, where our first team dismantled a surprising side of City reserves (genuinely thought they'd play a full strength side too). The semi final was a bit of a heart-breakers though, conceding an equaliser in the 94th min, then the winner in 105+2th min.

League Cup : Easily in the top 2 worst performances ever by this Canvey side, though I think this may have been a blessing in disguise without any major distractions.

Squad (1)(2) and Transfers: I was so keen to sign O'Kane I had to do it twice (the board blocked it first time), but turned out to be a bit of a poor signing. I think I may continue with the French raid next season too after how well the first two were. ;)

Player of the Season : Shola Oliseh - MC

It would've been Kinsella by a mile, but he's whining about wanting to move away so he sacrifices this award. One of the most consistent performers in the last two years for us as well. A big thumbs up to our GK and first choice CBs [bradley and Stockwell] who were excellent through the majority of the season too.

Finances : No stadium expansion, but my financial plan for the club is going to be hampered if this happens year on year

Other Stuff : Not much in the way of jobs, only offered reigning champions Liverpool (who ended up below us) and favourites for basically every PL job throughout the season, including Man City [which was eventually filled by Steve McLaren].

Since I'm now (in theory) 1 season away from the CL, lets see what the finals have been so far;

2012 - Inter over Man Utd

2013 - FC Porto over CSKA Moscow

2014 - Man Utd over AC Milan

2015 - Barcelona over Man Utd

2016 - Arsenal over Barcelona

2017 - FC Porto over Tottenham

2018 - AC Milan over Real Madrid

History:

2012-13: BSS - 1st

2013-14: BSP - 1st, FA Trophy Winners

2014-15: L2 - 1st, JPT Winners

2015-16: L1 - 1st, JPT Winners

2016-17: CH - 2nd

2017-18: PL - 7th

Gricehead ** Tooting & Mitcham ** Blue Square Bet Premier ** 2014/15

"The nearly men"

Squad Improvements

Five players came in before the end of August, whilst 14 left. This was a drastic trimming of the squad, getting rid of players who weren't worthy of a wage in the higher division, and also a few who weren't willing to negotiate new deals within my enforced wage structure. Notable departure was Jordan Agbaje, one of the key players in 2012/13.

Of the players coming in, four out of five would go on to be first team choices making an average of more than 30 appearances each. The fifth - Gary Kelly - made less of an impact, due to me overlooking a "wage increase on appearance" clause which would have made him the highest earner after 30 league games.

I limited myself to three signings during the season itself, as I tried to keep a lid on the clubs financial situation.

Transfers

Blue Square Bet Premier 2014/15 ** Board Expectation: Avoid Relegation ** My Expectation: Avoid Relegation

Working with a wage budget that was unimproved from the BSS promotion season, and in reality was lower in order to try to stem the amount of money disappearing down the drain, this was always going to be a challenge.

We had something of a slow start, taking just two points from first four games. Our first win should have come against Alfreton at home, the only team with a worse record than us, and we led for a large part of the game until they equalised in stoppage time. I thought we might be doomed at that point, but next game we went to unbeaten Burton and won 3-0. Funny game.

Already we were being tipped as 10-1 outsiders for pretty much all away games, so we no doubt upset the bookies when we made it back to back away wins, beating Mansfield by a single goal, despite only having ten men for 70 minutes. Grimsby looked to be going the same way, as we led them 2-0 at half time. They replied by kicking us off the park in the second half, pulling back level and then scoring the winner in the 95th minute.

Four points from the next nine available, including dropped points at home to Barrow, before our biggest win of the season; 5-0 against Lincoln, with four goals for Zak Ansah (ending a ten hour goal drought in the process). A similar 4-0 demolition of Kettering followed, and we moved up to a high point of 14th in the table. All was rosy at Imperial Fields, but not at Kettering as their manager got the sack.

We made it three in a row against Salisbury, before Boreham Wood visited, and we all know what that means. Again our bogey team did us, this time just 1-0. Again we bounced back, with a good 2-1 win at home to Darlingont, but another 95th minute goal went against us at Kidderminster, another game we should really have taken something from. 0-0 against York was a good result, but by the time we lost by an odd gosl in three at Forest Green we were facing the Christmas period with three winless games behind us.

The Christmas games would be vital, but our fourth winless game would come in a defeat at home to 23rd placed Southport on 27th December. We went 2-0 down, and a spirited fightback saw us recover to 2-2 in the second half. There should have been only one winner from there, until Grant Smith fumbled a relatively straightforward freekick straight onto the foot of their striker. Now 20th, we faced 19th placed Aldershot on New Years Eve. We lost the game in the first half hour, and despite them losing a man and us getting one back before half time, we couldn't find the equaliser. We went into the 2015 in 20th. Just.

January turns out to be a shocking month. We score in all five games, but lose four of them, including relegation rivals Alfreton. We plummet into the relegation zone as a result, and with the club around £250k in debt, my chairman makes noises about stepping aside. Soon-to-be relegation rivals Fleetwood are dispatched 3-0 away from home, as we threaten a brief revival, but it's a false dawn, and we lose the next four, scoring just one goal this time.

Entering March, we're nine points from safety, and I'm clueless as to how to change it round; practically resigned to relegation. I'm rescued from oblivion by a veiled suggestion from the supporters representative that they'd like to see a change of formation as they're rather bored with watching us lose with the old one. Step forward Serge Gnabry to drive us forward in a formation that concentrates more in putting our attacking play through the middle, rather than down the wings.

From out of nowhere, this change produces a three game winning streak, dispatching Cambridge, Barrow and Lincoln. The wins came at a huge cost, with first choice strikers Ansah and Molloy picking up season ending injuries. Our run stutters as 23rd place Kettering peg us back twice to earn a 2-2 draw. It comes to an end when Salisbury beat us 2-1. Facing Boreham Wood is not what I wanted for a bounce back game, and unsurprisingly we lose that as well, by the traditional scoreline of 2-0. This puts us three points behind Mansfield with six games remaining.

By now, the players are barely surviving from one game to the next. Bruton, O'Neil, Branco and Relish have all joined the injury list, and hardly anyone is doing any training between games. A thoroughly scratch side went to 6th placed Darlington, and thanks to a late Dave Buck goal we won 2-1. Mansfield got one of many draws, and we closed up to just one point behind.

It was status quo as we took a point against all odds in a 3-3 draw with Rochdale, and Mansfield drew. When they drew again, and we lost at home to Kidderminster, we were two points adrift with three to play.

Then came an amazing game against playoff-bound York. We were 2-1 down when the game turned on a penalty decision. Barroilhet went down in the box, and it looked soft. The York players went ballistic, and as they protested, the ref awarded not one but two second yellow cards. Down to nine men, York still manage to retake the lead in stoppage time, but we equalise soon after the break and then snatch it 4-3 in second half stoppage time! Mansfield lose, and we finally jump above them by a single point with two games left. Fleetwood are also now in the mix, only two points in front of us. Plus we have a better goal difference.

The first of our two home games to end the season saw us convincingly beat Forest Green 3-0. It was enough, wasn't it? No, Mansfield won as well, and we went down to the last day. We had Aldershot at home, whilst Mansfield visited Lincoln. The complicated scenario would see either us, or one of the teams in the other fixture, relegated. Are you ready for this:

If we won, nothing else mattered.

If we drew 0-0, any result other than a 1-0 win for Mansfield would keep us up. Similarly if we drew 1-1, any result other than a 2-1 win for Mansfield would keep us up.

If we lost, we needed Lincoln to either beat Mansfield or the game to be drawn.

With one eye on the vidiprinter, our game kicked off in a downpour. Aldershot had all the play, but Mansfield unveiled the nightmare scenario by scoring at Lincoln, meaning we would tie with Lincoln on Goal Difference and Goals Scored, potentially being relegated on alphabetical ordering (unless there was some unwritten rule rolled out). Any hope of us improving things died a death when Branco brought down their striker in a goalscoring position. We held out for the draw, hoping for a goal in the other game, but nothing came and eventually Aldershot scored in the last minute.

Going down by a single point hurt, and it hurt a handful of my better players as well, as they immediately handed in transfer requests.

Table ** Positions ** Fixtures (1) ** Fixtures (2)

FA Cup ** Board Expectation: 4th Qualifying Round ** Achievement: 1st Round

FA Trophy ** Board Expectation: 1st Round ** Achievement: 1st Round

We didn't trouble the draw-makers very much in either cup. Blyth were dispatched to get into the first round of the Cup, but League One Notts County were too strong for us, so we pocketed the cash and headed home.

In the Trophy we were pegged as underdogs against Blue Square South Braintree, and duly lost. It was a measure of our declining reputation that no-one but me cared about this.

Combined Cup Results

Players

Squad

Key Players:

Zak Ansah Top scorer, despite some lengthy barren spells, and an injury that cost him the last couple of months.

Raphael Branco Still a solid defender, especially in the air, but did his red card ultimately cost us our BSP place?

Kieran Relist By rating, my top defender. It says much about the season that two central defenders are in my key players list. Missed too much of the run in through injury, though.

Gary O'Neil Good midfield prospect as a deep playmaker. Again, missed a month of the run-in.

Serge Gnabry Six goals and five assists in 27 games doesn't tell the whole story. If I'd switched tactics earlier, he might have got more and we might have stayed up.

and finally:

Dave Buck Not an outstanding player, but notable for the fact he played the whole season for £5/week with no appearance bonuses, and scored two of what would have been the most critical goals. Had we stayed up. Can't afford to offer him a contract, so it's more of the same next season...

Next Season

The takeover eventually happened, and brought a £250k bank loan in it, so at the end of the season we're nominally in the black. That's where the good news ends, as £400 has been slashed from my wage budget, bringing it down to £3500, and even that will see the club making ~£20k per month losses. The core of the team should be enough to get back up, unless they continue to insist they are leaving. With four players shipping out anyway, I might have wriggle room to add one or two extras.

Targets

Gain promotion again, although probably via the playoffs.

Worksop Championship 2021/22

Table

League Cup - 4th Rd

FA Cup - 3rd Rd Replay

Spent all season firmly midtable and ended with less points than last year, other than that it was a repetition of last year. Yet again individual errors from defenders were one of the main causes, the team dominated possession and had twice as many chances in most games but with few on target. In the league cup got past L2 Colwyn Bay, CH derby and L1 Morecombe before losing 2-0 to Man City in the 4th Rd. In the FA cup drew 2-2 at home to prem Newcastle before losing the replay 2-1. Finances increased a bit due to player sales. The board increased Junior coaching and Youth recruitment and approved an increase to training facilities which is holding my players back as they are fairly basic. Another 1600 seats put in to make it 7426.

Squad

Transfers

Most of the transfers in were youth players, Ginter and Hoeness were the only first teamers to come in and both were disappointing.

Gundersen (193 apps) was sold and Kakoullis (104 apps, 8 goals) let go as they were no longer good enough for the team. Yilmaz's (164 apps, 19 goals) inconsistant performances coupled with his contract running out meant i sold him on. In midfield Bule and Brandt are the outstanding players as usual, my strikers all doing well in patches. Flemming finished the season well with Klinger starting well. Bretthauer showed real improvement over last year.

OK, here is my manager and a brief report on my progress at the helm of Kingstonian:

kingstonian_logo.png

Kingstonian - Season 1 - 12/13 - BSS

Summary - Table - GraphFixtures (all)

Media Prediction: 22nd

Final Position: 1st

Long story short, I replaced almost all players with new ones, which means I have an entire squad filled with "key players", as I cannot offer part time contracts with lesser roles. Luckily squad rotation is a must, because players, especially midfielders, get quickly very tired during matches - could be that I have a tactic that particularly requires good fitness. It took months and months for my squad to achieve full match preparation familiarity, but when they finally began to grasp my ideas, the team played really well and eventually finished the season as BSS champions.

In addition to league success, Kingstonian also won the FA Trophy.

Kingstonian Players - Squad - Transfers

Gareth McKie

Despite an excellent season, there really is only one player who truly is worth mentioning, even though he only had a minor role during the whole campaign. I signed this young midfielder on free transfer in March, and at 16 he already must be the most skillfull palyer at this level. Definately one to try to hold on to.

Just been given odds of 5000-1 to win the EPL in my first season. Funny thing is, I wouldn't waste my money on that. Biggest problem though is trying to find enough decent HG players that I can afford the wages of. My highest earners are around the £4k/week and total budget around £70k/week, but to find a HG player that will be in starting eleven will cost, I'd need to pay around £15k/week at minimum. Probably going to have to end up using the 5 HG slots as bench players and keeping the squad young so I don't have any problems with the maximum of 25 total players.

Edit: Just reached 30th Jun and sadly Zac Ansah has decided to leave, tried to re-sign him as I'd need him for HG reasons but he doesn't want to enter negoations. He was the only player who had played for me at every level, so would've loved to have given him some games in the EPL to complete it, even though I know he would struggle at this level. Still have a couple of players from the BSP level and hope to keep Andrews for many years to come if I can, although he wants to move still and his contract only has 12mths left.

Sorry for double post but decided to spend cash on a 17yo russian kid so that he would be HG in 3 years time but even though I'm in the transfer window, the confirmation screen has come up and it's saying the transfer won't go through until next window when he'll already be 18, which would make it pointless for HG.

I know there is a rule regarding South American players where they have to be 18 to be signed in Europe, does this also apply to Russian and other non EU players? Had a search but nothing is coming up and living in Australia, I'm not familiar with the EU rules and all that stuff.

Here's the kid in question Gizatullin who, apart from flair and creativity, looks very good for his age and I was able to get a work permit on appeal. Would cost me about a million pounds which I may spend anyway but the idea was to find a kid that would eventually be HG. Is this not possible with non-EU people?

Darren1983 Kingstonian 2024/25 Premier League Season Review

Table Graph Transfers Squad

After last seasons nothing season I had a small clear out of under performing players, and splashed a bit of cash (£25million) in order to send us up the table and try and get us into Europe for the first time. We had a change in formation to a 4231 (wide) to suit the players that I had brought in.

After a slow start (only 2 wins in our first 6 league games) we hit a bit of form, in fact we set a new club record of 12 straight wins in all comps (2 of these wins were in the league cup) before a 0-0 draw with Everton eneded that run then the next game were beaten 3-1 away to Man Utd to end the unbeaten run at 13. After that run we were in amongst the Champions League places going into the new year.

After getting through the hetic christmas period I was on the look out for a new striker as, despite us beinh amongst the highest scores in the league none of my strikers had more then 5 goals to their name) Juan Luis was brought to my attention via his agent and after a quick look at his stats and a scout report he was signed for a club record £9million and I hoped we had found the man to shoot us into the top 4.

Our form in the new year was good, often going on 6/7 game unbeaten runs and with 6 games to go we were 4th, 2 points clear of 5th placed Arsenal, we then chose this time to go on our worst run of the season, losing 3 on the spin before winning our last 3 games (including a 2-1 win at home to champions Man Utd) these wins weren't enough and we ended 5th 2 points behind Arsenal, and have to settle for the Eurpa League for our first try in Europe.

Cups

FA Cup -

A tough draw in that we got Spurs who had been relegated the season before but held on to all their top players and would run away with the championship, due to fixture congestion I rested most of my first team for the replay.

League Cup

- This competition had bugged me since we lost to Chesterfeild in the 1/4 2 years ago, as I felt then we would have won it (championship side Leicester did) A comfortable first couple of rounds saw us get rid of Luton and Wycombe before a home draw against Liverpool, a 2-1 win saw us progress to 1/4 for the 3rd straight season, we played Chelsea and produced our best performance of the season saw our west London rivals sent back up the Kings Road after a 5-1 spanking!! In the semi's we had Championship Reading and after a routine 3-0 away win I rested my entire team for the home game and we won 2-1 (5-1 on agg) to make our first final where we would play Hull (another team making their first league cup final)

The Final

we won!!!!!! Our first cup win and a place in Europe secure

Players Of The Season

Christano Pedretti

- Signed for £4.5million from Atalanta, he bossed our Midfield for most of the season, scoring an impressive 10 goals and creating 11 assists

Juan Luis

- The striker we needed, a return of 9 in 20 is ok for a player in his fist 4/5 months in a new league, with a full pre season behind him I expect big things from him next season

Lucio Avonda

- what a bargin he was, a £2.5million signing from Juventus where he was tranfer lsited, and my faith in building the formation around him was justifeid with a return of 18 goals and 16 assists from him. I was turning down bids of over £11 million for him in the Jan transfer window, easily my Player of the season

Lewes - 2016/17 League 1 End of Season Update - 1st

Table | Positions | Transfers | Squad | Finances

A good start where we built a bit of a gap only to slump a little mid season and have Bristol City catch and pass us. The two teams were neck in neck most of the way with a huge gap to third. So promotion was wrapped up fairly early but the chase for the title went down to the last day. We were 2 points and +4 goal difference clear, so a draw should have been enough to do it, but I got a bit nervous when Bristol City went 3-0 up within 10 minutes making me think we'd need the win and not just the draw! Need not have worried in the end, we won our last match 5-0 to close out the season in style.

What is it with strikers in this game? Sold my previous striker because he wanted too much money given he'd gone down for 3 month injuries the previous two seasons ... only to have my new striker fracture his skull and also go down for 3 months. He'd been brilliant up until that point and it really put us in a struggle for goals for a while (especially when his backup also went down for over a month). Only thing that frustrates me about a single striker system, you can only really afford (in terms of wages and time in the first team) to have one top guy on the roster, and they keep on getting hurt!

Also had a takeover, but it was just a board member and was certainly a new boss just like the old boss deal. No new investment and the youth facilities (the only non compulsory upgrade I've gotten in my entire time there) got cancelled at the end of the year in order to pay for the required stadium upgrade. :(

League Cup - 3rd Round.

Managed to beat a premier division team in the 2nd round, a first, so happy with the run. Probably could have won this 3rd round match too, bad team management to have subbed some of my better penalty shooters when the game always looked headed for a 0-0 draw.

FA Cup - 3rd Round.

The usual third round outcome, although a home tie this time around put a dint in my profits for the year. Really no way we deserved to lose 3-0 in what should have been a winnable game at home, but we chased goals after going down early and paid for it.

Johnstone's Paint Trophy - Winner.

Back to back victories, always nice to defend the title, although the final really never should have gone to penalties, especially after they had a player sent off. Thankfully we managed to get a couple of stops and the shoot out was never in doubt.

Next Season

Not sure whether we have the quality or will get the budget to get a squad that can push for another promotion, but mid table and consolidate for a push the year after should be on the cards. The stadium is just too small to make a profit without an injection of cash from an away tie against a premier side in the cup, so probably need that to happen to keep the finances healthy.

Transfer wise just need to keep plugging away and looking for home grown players, towards the end of last year I was often picking the last bench player for their HG status and not because they were the best choice. Would like to look at upgrading in goal, not sure Loris Karius is still going to be quality at this level, but having the GK be home grown is such a help in getting up to the quota I'm not sure I'll be able to make it happen. Also my captain/set piece taker/most consistent player Mads Brogaard wants to leave for a bigger club, thankfully he gave me warning so I've already got replacements and with one year on his deal he's out for as much as I can get for him. Will be sad to see him go, but can't really afford to let him walk for nothing.

Went and checked rules and sure enough Russian players can't sign overseas deals until 18yo. Decided to bite the bullet and sign him anyway. He has the potential to be a leading premier league player and fits in well with the squad, I'll just get my HG players from elsewhere, can't really afford to pass up that level of talent at that price.

Hendon – npower League 1 - 6th - 2017/18

As it was our first season in League 1 the club was expected to fight against relegation, but the team performed far better than these expectations and spent most of the season floating around the play-offs and automatic promotion spot, but in the end had to settle for 6th place. In the semi-finals Burton were defeated 3-1 on aggregate, but we fell at the final hurdle in the play-off final, losing 3-1 to Middlesbrough after taking the lead.

The inability to play well in the cups continued although losing to Liverpool in the fa cup third round was only to be expected.

For the first time I actually spent money on a transfer, paying £100k for centre-back Ethan Ebanks-Landell, who had a great season and justified his fee. Collins had another fine season, and loan signings Pinkney and Barrett also played key roles.

Should still end up as HG if he is at the club for 3 years before he's 21 - check the home-grown status page to see if he has a date.

But if I can't sign him before he turns 18, then it's not possible for him to be at the club 3 years before turning 21 surely? Transfer date is still 6mths away so I won't be able to check that until then but it would be after his 21st b/day woudn't it?

Darren1983 Kingstonian Premier League Season 2025/26 Review

Prediction: 8th

Final Posistion: 3rd

After last seasons League cup win, and 5th placed finish I was after more of the same, we went back into the transfer market with perhaps the most high profile signing being a 33 year old Jack Wilshire in on a free after his release from Arsenal.

An opening day home defeat to Everton wasn't ideal, but we then went on a 6 game unbeaten run run in the league which was only halted by a narrow 2-1 defat away to Man City. A couple of games later we lost at home to Blackburn and we were mid table. but we then went on a 16 game unbeaten run in the league (24 unbeaten in all comps - new club record) to rocket us back into contention for Europa League places at the least. Due to fixture congestion with our cup runs (more on that soon) we had to rotate a lot and almost everyone played a good 15-20 games this season, we pushed our way into the top 4 but our impressive unbeaten run was again ended by Man City, this time a 3-5 reverse at home. This lead to a few up and down games that threatened our top 4 place (we even dropped out a couple of times) but a run in form at the back end secured us a top for finish and with Aresnal getting beat by Liverpool we finished 3rd on GD an were in the Champions League for the first time!!

Cups

League Cup -

Our defence of this cup was over before it even started with a beating by Arsenal

FA Cup -

An comfortable run to the final where we met Chelsea, was a cracking final with us 2 down inside 15 mins, but inspired by our young Spanish Striker Pepe, who was only playing due to injurys to others, saw a great come back and an 85th min header sealed his hat trick, our come back and the cup!!

Europa League -

Our first taste of europe looked to be going badly in the 2nd leg of the play offs (after I had chosen to rest most of my first team) but we get through and then cruised our group winning all 6 games, we were drawn with Turkish side Trabzonspor and 2 cortable wins later saw us progress 8-3 on agg to play German giants Bayern Munich, a good 1-1 draw away gave us a great chance at home where we raced into a 2-0 half time lead, but I think the pressure got to us and they scored 2 2nd half goals to go through on away goals.

Players Of The Season

Fabien Andre - French Keeper brought on a free 6 years ago and has been our first choice ever since, contract up next season and as his agent dislikes me it's gonna cost a bomb to get him to re-sign

Theirry Thomas - Like Andre, he was signed on a free 6 years ago and has performed well for us (he's a club Icon) he started as a striker but since the change in formation he's been played out on the left where he's been great, scoring goals and creating goals for

Xavier Arribas - Young spanish winger that I hope to replace Thomas with, was signed on a free from Barcelona in the summer and has performed well when called upon

Ali Boulia - My player of the season! What a star he's been this year, loads of big clubs chasing him but now that we're in champions league I hope we can hang on to him. Was signed from Clairefontaine (like Andre) 3 years ago and is now rated as a wonderkid (Our first!) He's like Beckham but with pace! Such a joy watching him skin a couple of players then whip in a cross for someone to nod in

#81 - Kingstonian. Season '23-'24. Premier League.

Kingstonian_FClogo.gif

League position: 14th

FA Cup: 3R

League Cup: 4R

Summary: League table Past positions Squad Aim was to survive; we started off well enough, then slumped, then recovered, then finally struggled over the finish line in 14th. A bit flattering to us, the teams in 15th-18th all had awful run-ins. Nothing else of note, except Chelsea retained the title with a winning goal 4 minutes into injury time against runners-up Man Utd. Shades of Michael Thomas......

Transfers: Transfers Board pee'd me off royally by selling club captain centre-back Jesper Hansen to Chelsea for a paltry £2.2m just 2 weeks before the season started. We were weak at centre-back all season, despite bringing in a couple of options (Guy, Chastang, Masson) and Hansen barely featured for Chelsea. Maia and Jovanovic strengthened our poor left side, Davis provided depth in the middle, Roscoe didn't score as many as he should have done and is now a back-up, the rest were prospects who most likely won't make the grade. Net spending was only £100k.

Future prospects: New stadium next season, 18,000 seats. A settled team, only exits should be those who aren't good enough for this level. The club is being held back by poor youth recruitment and basic training facilities; even with an over-flowing bank account the board would rather butter up shareholders than improve facilities. I've spent so little on transfers and wages that the TV money from this season has practically covered the whole costs of the new ground! The squad is still quite young - and good enough to sweep the May Young Player of the Month award. I can't find many players to add to the squad, though, so we'll have to see how it goes.

History:

1718 - BSP 5th (Promoted through play-offs)

1819 - L2 6th (Promoted through play-offs, JPT South area runners-up)

1920 - L1 4th (Lost in play-off semis)

2021 - L1 6th (Promoted through play-offs)

2122 - Ch 12th

2223 - Ch 2nd (Automatic promotion)

2324 - PL 14th

What's getting my goat -

Tactical inconsistency: one tactic works fine for a few games, then suddenly is useless. A replacement works fine for the next few, then it's also useless. Back to the first tactic, all fine again until a few games on.....

Offsides: since the last patch the number of offsides has gone through the roof. If only they'd added an "oi, get back onside" shout. It's from goal-scoring chances but also from playing ball back to taker on throw-ins, corners etc, and is happening too regularly for my liking.

Match preparation: tactic familiarity is on full. Squad goes on holiday for a month. I don't sign anyone. Squad comes back. Tactic familiarity is back to half. Like the whole team will forget how to play how I want!

Little, inconsequential things, but annoying all the same.

No that will be fine ... it's OK if they turn 21 during the last year, because it's the age at the start of the season that matters. I've signed a few 18 year olds with the intention of making them home grown in my save (although only one so far has lasted the 3 years at my club to do it ...)

One thing that's been helpful about getting onto the club's icon list and the improvement in reputation that automatically comes with playing in the EPL. If ever my Chairman doesn't want to give me something, all I have to do is say 'after all I've done for the club, this is the least you could do' and he gives in and I get what I want :D

So, because of that, we'll be upgrading our training facilities at the end of the season. Will cost £3.7m and probably get me from 3 up to 4 stars. TV revenue is greater than my total monthly expenses so we're making good money and by the end of the season, the cost won't be much of an issue if I can stay up.

Most assists: Marco Oliveira 11(8 in CH)

Highest Average rating: Christian Christensen, 7.32 (7.31 in CH)

2019-20 Season Review:

A good season from the guys. Finishing strong and being close to a playoff place. We sold Melnik and payed for it in the first half of the season, until we signed Innes. Struggling to find good english players for the cheap forced us to have fillers as substitutes most of the season.

Player of the season:

Christian Christensen - AM R/S C - Great season from the dane. 24 goals in the league. unfortunately also a lot of disciplinary point. But he scoreswhen he's not suspended ;-)

Other Key Players

Lucas Marti - D L - Strong wingback. I hope we can keep him around for a lot of seasons.

Marco Oliveira - D/DM/M C - Incredible player. Just signed an extension. Crucial in the battle for promotion.

Colin Innes - M/AM C - Took over in the january window. Exciting player, with skills that fit the position

2020/21 Season Preview:

With a new stadium around the corner, and the boards willingness to expand both training and youth facilities the future is looking good. We are focusing a lot on youth and if all goes well in the transfer window, we will battle for promotion as early as this year.

Yeah, hats off to all those who find the time to post the wonderful season updates, I thoroughly enjoy reading them on the way to work.

Personally I'm in season 16, League 1 with Canvey Island, with all good initial intentions to post updates, but a) I got too involved in the game to post b) disqualified myself by using FMRTE, but it was only to provide reputation information to SI for a reputation bug thread I posted.

Outstanding goal that Gypsum.

Have a contractual problem with my GK. He's only got 6mths left and I'm trying desperately to keep him. His agent is demanding a £1.1m min release clause in the contract, when he's already worth that (would be more if my reputation was better) and there would be half a dozen EPL teams that would pay that much at the drop of a hat. My wage ceiling is 8,750/week and he already wants that, if I lock the min release at 5mill, he then wants double the wages, which just isn't possible. Also wants a % of selling fee and to match highest earner.

Aside from letting him have the 1.1m release clause and watching him go at the end of the season, is there anything else I can do to keep him? It would cost me probably 3 times that amount to get a reasonably equivalent replacement.

I know it may sound risky, but have you thought trying to cash in on him for around £5m or so? If clubs offer anywhere near that then you could get the money to get his replacement straight away. Otherwise there isn't much you can really do I'm afraid apart from just letting him see out his contract :(.

The only other option I can think of is to use the budget allocation to gain more wage budget and offer as close to what he wants, but by the sounds of it that might not even be enough either.

Canvey Island - 2018/19 End of Season Update - PL

Slowly edging closer...

League: (Positions) After missing out narrrowly on Europa League qualification last season, the aim for this season was quite simple. Gain a spot in Europe for the following season by any means.

However, things have a way of not always going to plan, and despite always knocking on the top 6 door throughout the season, we were never really favourites to finish there. In fact, were it not for a 5 match unbeaten run at the end of the season, I'm not sure that we would've replicated our 7th placed finish from last season. But this was good enough to gain a EL spot, due to the fantastic performances of Wolves in both cups handing the Europe spots down to 7th this season.

Europe now awaits.

Cups

FA Cup : I can't complain about the draw this season, although would it kill for a home tie once in a while; just got completely and utterly outplayed by Stoke on the day, I even think 5-1 was a fair result too.

League Cup : Can we just get a home tie for once please?? Ran into the juggernaut which were Wolves before January, they finished the calendar year only 1 point off the leaders such was their form, so again no real complaints.

Squad (1)(2) and Transfers: A quiet front on transfers, as I decided to try a lot of the youngsters who have been doing well through the academy and youth teams. Losing Kinsella was a bit of a blow though, I did miss his goals some of the few times when Parkes and Austin weren't on form.

Player of the Season : Terry McGarry - MC

A tough choice this season for a change, as no-one really stood out from the crowd, with Kinsella and Austin coming off the boil near the end of the season and Parkes also being too hit and miss, McGarry was probably one of the more consistent performers, and even played every PL game which is unheard off in my rotation policy

Finances : Greedy shareholders strike again!! Also got a VERY small stadium expansion, this now taking up to maximum capacity. Anyone want to bet on when I get a new stadium?

Other Stuff : Just the one job offer this season, at reigning champions Arsenal (eventually filled by Martin Jol) who in fact offered me a smaller transfer budget than I get at Canvey .

At the start of the season [that must be stressed], we made our first appearance onto the rich list, slotting in between the finance powerhouses of Napoli and West Ham.

2019 CL final (for those who care): Inter 1-0 Valencia
