Just thought id pop in to say iv started a save with the new update. Really enjoying it atm. Into April of the first season and sitting 8th.

Playing 4-2-3-1 with 2 CMs and 3 AMs. Trying to emulate a Swansea/Barcelona type approach with passing and possession retention being key.

toontransfers.png

The transfers were mainly aimed at building my team for this formation with Allen coming in to fight for one of the 2 CM spots with Cabaye, Tiote and Gosling and Nene, Lodeiro and Erick Torres to bolster the AM slots with Ben Arfa, Vuckic, Marveaux and Abeid. Guttierez was sold as he wouldnt fit with the formation

allenq.png

I see Allen as perfect for the passing game with his high Teamwork, Passing and Work rate attributes

Bringing a few of the youngsters through already, namely Ferguson, Vuckic, Abeid and the surprise package, Sammy Ameobi. I put him in for some cup matches and he performed excellently up-front on his own as a poacher so I put him in for some league games as Ba has suffered alot of injuries, and he performed fantastically!

sammym.png

Im into the FA Cup Final as well soon so hopefully can get the Final win againt Swansea of all teams!

I've been really impressed with Joe Allen irl this season, so he's one of my main targets for the first season on this new save. Have a bid in for him now and just waiting for Swansea to say Yay or Nay.

How's Nene done for you? I've got him on my shortlist at the moment.

He's done pretty well considering he's been trained to play AMC. Pretty happy with him

EDIT: He's just scored another goal

Hello people...I don't usually post season updates or anything but I started a game with my beloved Toon on the latest patch and thought I'd give it a go...

SEASON 2011-12

God knows how but I snatched the league title on the last day of the season. Spurs and Man U both bottled it big time and I nabbed top spot. The mackems went down on the final day too which made it even more sweet.

Fixtures 3 - http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8967/newcastleunitedfixturesd.png

Did alright in the Carling cup and was unlucky to go out, played a weakened team against Cov in the FA Cup and paid the price. Should have beaten them as we controlled the game regardless.

Transfers 2011-2012 - http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1443/newcastletransfershisto.png

Signed Jokic pre-season as my LB then replaced him in January with Siqueira so I now have decent cover at LB. Also signed Cavenaghi as cover for up front as I don't really rate Best, Shola or Peter. He was pretty cheap and came up with a couple of important goals for the team. I sold Vučkić to Real Madrid for £5million as I couldn't really see him fitting into the system that I play and I was after some money for a striker. Planning on having a massive clear out over the summer as we have a lot of poor players.

EPL Player stats - http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/469/barclayspremierleaguest.png

All in all really shocked that I managed to win it with the team that I had, gonna start my second season now and will do an update like this when I'm finished. If anybody wants me to post pictures of anything else just give me a shout.

Cheers,

Sam

Oh and I forgot to mention I cleared out the whole backroom staff and brought my own in. Just turned down the Chelsea job too!

Currently upgrading the youth + training facilities and the stadium is being expanded by 7,000

Great results there samas. What sort of formation did you use and how did you use Ba and Cissé? I struggle with two striker formations, but it's obviously the way to go with Newcastle on FM with those two up top

Newcastle Save Take 2: 2011/12 Season Update

After a rather laborious summer transfer window I've finally got my second Newcastle save underway properly. I'm planning on using a 4-4-2 formation at home primarily, to fit the Dembii in the side, may also use it away from home where I think we can get away with a fairly attacking approach. I have a couple of other tactics in reserve for games where I think we need more strength in midfield. I'd originally planned on making just a couple of additions to start with, and then doing my real squad development in the second summer, however that idea changed fairly dramatically in the end.

The mantra for this save is going to be 'Workrate, Workrate, Workrate.....oh and more Workrate' using high tempo and lots of pressing in our tactics. Most of the players signed in the summer were brought in with this in mind.

Summer Deals

Players Out:

Nile Ranger to Wolves for £2.8 million, had several loan bids for him in the first few days so decided to offer him out as the interest was there and pretty much snapped Wolves hand off when they offered that fee.

Peter Lovenkrands to Fulham for £750,000 after he recovered from his starting injury. Sevral clubs made loan bids, but Fulham were the only team to offer a permanent deal so again didn't take long to make a decision.

Fabricio Coloccini to Man City for £15.5 million. Thought about this one long and hard. City put an early bid of £9.25 million in for him and after some back and forth we eventually arrived at a price I was tempted by. Eventually decided to accept and use the money to start developing my squad ahead of schedule. Colo's departure also meant there was a significantly higher proportion of the wage budget available for new arrivals.

Paul Dummet, Michael Richardson and Sammy Ameobi all went out on loan as well to clubs offering them 1st Team experience.

Players In:

Guti signed up on a free transfer was the 1st arrival. Brought in to provide experienced cover in midfield and hopefully tutor the likes of Abeid.

Ze Roberto also snapped up on a free, had to offer him Key Player status and a fairly hefty wage to fend off the likes of Valencia, but he's proving to be worth it.

Toby Alderweireld signed from Ajax for £4.4 million upfront. A key signing to play alongside Steven Taylor at the heart of our defence, he's not got the best determination, but he has solid defensive attributes otherwise, plus the good workrate I wanted, and he's a fantastic passer, and I always like to have at least one skilled passer in the defence.

Chris Brunt brought in from West Brom for a fee of £6.75 million, (only £1 mill upfront though). Great workrate, natural on both wings and pretty comfortable anywhere in midfield. No slouch with his crossing or free kicks either.

Joe Allen from Swansea for £5.75 million altogether (plus another million in appearance and goal clauses). Signed mostly as I've been impressed with him irl to be honest, but he fits in nicely alongside Cabaye and Tiote when I want to play a 3 man midfield.

Ivo Pekalski from Malmo for £925,000 to provide extra cover for Tiote in Defensive Midfield. Put an early bid in for him as I've seen his price jump to between £2 and £3 million by the end of September. (More about Mr Pekalski later...)

Danny Wellbeck on loan from Man Utd till the end of the season. Could have gone for Super Mario Balotelli, but decided Wellbeck would fit in better with the style of squad I'm building. Also paying 100% of his wages is still only £8,000 a week.

Olof Mellberg snapped up for £850,000 from Olympiakos. Signed to provide experienced cover for Taylor and Alderweireld and provide an obvious threat from set plays.

Jorge Fucile signed from Porto for £1.8 million in the last few days of the transfer window. The Uruguayan international will probably be our 1st choice right back and like Santon, can play left back pretty comfortably if need be.

All in all, pretty happy with how the transfer window developed. The squad has more strength in depth, and plenty options in most areas. However I was frustrated in efforts to bring in a specialist left back and seem to have become something of a jinx for potential signings with Erik Pieters getting crocked after being scouted, Pablo Armero tearing a calf muscle at Udinese after we'd agreed a fee for himso the deal fell through, Fabian Monzon and Roberto Canella both picked up injuries as well after Graham Carr filed scout reports on them.

Results so Far

newcastleunitedfixtures.png

The season got underway in almopst perfect fashion with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Sunderland, including debut goals from Papiss Cisse and Toby Alderweireld. With both of His goals coming from Cabaye assists, one indirect freekick glanced home at the nearpost and the second from a cross after Cabaye's initial corner was only cleared straight back to him.

The game should have been won even more comfortably but for a couple of things. The first our unerring accuracy at hitting the woodwork, with efforts from Steven Taylor, Demba Ba and Cabaye all hitting post or bar. Secondly Ivo Pelaski, on as a second half sub for Tiote who was starting to concede several freekicks, launching himself into a two footed challenge that not only pretty much buried Lee Cattermole...but also placed a nice marble headstone and some pretty flowers on the grave.

Not surprisingly his debut lasted all of 6 minutes.

newcastlevmancitysplitv.png

This has been the most frustrating result so far. Getting slightly cocky due to our excellent start to the season, I went a little too attacking initially and we found ourselves 2-0 by halftime. However with no choice but to keep going for it the players responded well in the second half and we could well have grabbed something from the game, despite letting Yaya Toure bully his way through to score twice. In fact Danny Wellbeck fluffed a golden opportunity to draw us back to 4-4 on 80 minutes. Through on goal his first effort was parried by Joe Hart, but instead of squaring the rebound to an open, unmarked Cisse to roll it home in to an empty goal, Wellbeck leathered the rebound high and wide.

Luckily Toure skyed his late penalty to miss out on a hattrick which I think would have been harsh on us considering the efforts in the second half.

Our only other poor reult so far came in the league cup defeat against Liverpool, but we were missing Tiote in both games due to a virus and fielded a few fringe players in the cup game. So far the standout performers have been Cabaye and Ze Roberto (avg rating 7.79 and 7.87 respectively), with Alderweireld and Cisse not too far behind. Unfortunately we now go into a game against Arsenal having lost Toby in defence as he's been injured for a month on international duty.

Please forgive any glaring typos as I've had a couple beers and I'm getting used to new keyboard :p

EDIT: Forgot to mention, may have been lucky with Adam Campbell's level of potential on this save...judging by the fact that Man Utd made 7 different bids for him in last week of the transfer window Started at £1.2 million, and tried on last day to buy him for £4.6 million. I've kept hold of him for the time being.

Nice update there  I was tempted to do a Newcastle save, I have a softspot for them for some reason, might do one after my Arsenal save though. How has Fucile been for you? Pretty decent signing for the price, looking for a RB as cover for Sagna just while Jenkinson is still young and learning. Also Joe Allen is just a great player in FM12, his passing ability is second to none.

Fucile has been pretty solid for me so far. Has an average rating of 7.53 and 1 assist from his 3 league games so far, couple disappointing performances in the cup games drop his average down to 7.06 overall. However for the price I'd say he's a bargain. Would be a useful back up to Sagna, with added bonus that he can cover reasonably comfortably for Gibbs and Santos over on the left if you need him to.

Demba Ba got in on the act, chipping Szczesny as well....though looked like his might drift wide....at least until Koscielny trying to get back and cover managed to bundle it into his own net :p

Nice update there Dandy.

You have made some good moves in the transfer market, I tried in vain to sign Joe Allen but Swansea were having none of it and when I finally got them to negotiate there asking price was £15m which I couldn't afford.

What roles do you play the Dembii when you play them upfront together ? I think I might play two upfront in the second season, although I can never normally get two striker formations working very well.

To be honest it's usually the other way around for me, I really seem to struggle to get a striker to perform whenever I play one upfront. At the moment I'm playing Cisse as a Poacher with Ba as Advanced Forward, but while it's working fairly well for Cisse, doesn't seem to be getting the best out of Ba as yet. Cisse has 9 goals from 13(3) appearances, Ba only has 4 goals from 11(5), but he has made 5 assists.

I'll be switching the emphasis in Team prep to attacking movement now that the squad are pretty familiar with the tactic, see if that helps a little.

I was think about using a Advanced Forward and Deep Lying Forward combination upfront with the two wide men hugging the byline sending crosses in the box.

Thats next season We have eight league games left and we are in with a shout of being the champions of England. We are also into the semi finals of the FA cup and we play Wolves. We won the Carling cup earlier destroying a weakened Manchester United team 6-1 at Wembley Stadium. In fact all the top teams have played weak teams in both domestic cups.

Looks like you could be on for a fairly epic 1st season then :p

Ashley has just made another £5.75 million available for transfers on my save, did he pump in any more cash on your save so far?

Yeah he give me £5m.

Just finished my season and it was epic, going to bed now but I'll do a season review when I finish work tomorrow night.

2011/12 Season Update Ahoy

newcastleunitedfixtures.png

We managed to keep the good form running for a while and in fact throughout November and a chunk of December we were top of the league. Unfortunately we stumbled toward the end of the year and certain key players have suffered a real loss of form (Yes......I am looking at you Cabaye and Ba!).

Our second league defeat of the season against Man Utd was desperately unlucky, we should have been 1-0 and they should have been down to 10 men before Hernandez grabbed their goal. On 32 minutes Vidic gave away a penalty for a two footed lunge on Cisse, yet somehow escaped without even a booking. Cabaye missed the spot kick and 8 minutes later Hernandez escaped his marker to score from a corner. The game had been very even and continued like that until the 61st minute when Fucile got himself red carded and our chances of a comeback went out the window.

After bouncing back with 2 wins, injuries and suspensions caught up with us at Stamford Bridge with Tiote not fit to play after suffering a virus, Steven Taylor missing the game due to a niggling ankle knock plus Cabaye and Fucile suspended. We came close to escaping with a draw, but lost out to a screamer from Ramires in the 4th minute of injury time. Worse was to come in the next match though.

Despite dominating possession at White Hart Lane (at one point in the second half we'd had 60% so far), we created little with it and just crumbled defensively with some howlers from Alderweireld and Fucile allowing Adebayor freedom to score a hattrick. To make things even worse Joe Allen and Danny Wellbeck picked up injuries that meant they'll be unavailable for the first game of the new year.....away to Sunderland.

On a more positive note, with us sitting in second place at the turn of the year, Ashley has asked me to reconsider the season's expectations and I now have an increased wage budget plus £14.75 million to spend going into January. (Though that budget has been created by managing to offload Danny Guthrie to Blackpool and Gabriel Obertan to Wolves for a combined total of £4.4 million.....not sure who's making the decisions at Wolves ).

Ideally I'd like to buy in two or three players with that money, but if needs be I'll use all of it to get the left back I want.

Hey guys, I've recently started a new game with Newcastle. I'm hoping to make them my long term save for this years game.

Here's my transfer activity, which as you can see has been very limited so far:

transfersseason1.jpg

The season started off well enough but we've recently hit a poor run of form:

resultsseason11.jpg

One of the major issues I've had is getting Cisse to score. In fact he hasn't scored a single goal yet in 13 games this season. How are you guys playing him? So far I've tried him as both an advanced forward and as a poacher but to no avail.

I've been using him as a Poacher so far, and he's done reasonably well....but he's usually had a strike partner upfront alongside him in the games he's scored in. He hasn't done too well in games I've played him as the lone striker.

Thanks for the response. I usually play a 4-4-2 with Ba up front along side him as a deep lying forward and he has a much more respectable 7 goals in 11 games. Hopefully once he gets that first goal he'll go on a bit of a run.

Should have added that I have Cisse set as the target man in team instructions with a 'run onto ball' supply. Not sure if that makes any great difference to things.

Hopefully he'll nick one in off his shin and help you break that bad run of form

Good solid start there  Canella's a good buy, not flashy or particularly amazing but reliable and very consistent. Ended up keeping Aly Cissokho out of the side on my Arsenal save.

I had no problems with Colo bar a few niggling injuries.

Just finished my first season so a small round up to share:

League: We were fighting it out at the top for a while, up to around January where we were second, but a poor second half of the season saw us drop to 5th and into the Europa League spots. Not a bad season but after the start we had I can't pretend I'm not disappointed.

League Cup: Reached the semis where we went out to Liverpool. Won at home 1-0 when it should have been more comfortable and in the second leg they beat us 2-0. A shame, but my own fault for resting a few players for the league.

FA Cup: WINNERS! We played both the Manchester clubs (Utd in the 3rd, City in the 4th) who sent out weakened teams but stil included a few stars and after that it was plain sailing before eventually beating Bristol City in the final in a poor 1-0.

So off to Europe we go. The squad as it is, Europa League is more our level in honesty. Hopefully get some decent funds to strengthen.

NEWCASTLE END OF SEASON ONE REVIEW.

After finishing my first season late last night Newcastle complete a famous treble of the Premier League, FA cup and Carling cup winners.

It was one of the closest title run in's in recent memory between Arsenal and Newcastle we manage to win the league thanks to our goal difference which was only five goals better off than the Gunners.

Sunderland finished bottom of the Premier League which made it even more of a fantastic season for the Toon.

PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE.

35lap3m.jpg

IN THE CUPS.

In both cups the big clubs played weakened sides as you can see with some of our results, namely thrashing Manchester United in the Carling cup final and hammering Manchester City in the FA cup 5-1. We also had a very easy run in both competitions which allowed me to give some of our youngsters some much needed game time.

Carling cup final. Newcastle United 6-1 Manchester United.

FA cup final. Blackpool 1-3 (AET) Newcastle United.

This is how Haris looks on my game at the start of the second season.

66w22x.jpg

Yohan 'The Dreamboat' Cabaye has tutored him twice in the first season and I will ask him to do it again when the drop down box allows me to do so this season. He also played over 30 games in the first season so hopefully his attributes will progress quicker.

Yeah they look quite similar i didnt really play him much at the start as marveaux and ben arfa swapped around playing as my CAM. hes scored his fair share of goals this season already though from centre midfield. He has 7 goals from 11 games which isnt bad ill post some more updates on his progress when i get to january

My scout has just found this brilliant little German born, Turkish u19 regen.

14xi1kz.jpg

I ve have just asked how much Karlsruhe want for him and they want big money not surprisingly, £25m  so I think a little bit of negiotiating has to be done with the Germans.

According to my head scout who has 20 for JPA and JPP he has 4.5 stars for potential :).

Another player who has developed quite well even though he isnt half good enough to play centre back in my first team yet is Remie Streete has anyone had any luck with him on the new update here is a screen shot of mine so far

I had young Remie tutored by Steven Taylor in the first season and this season I have sent him to Preston North End on a season long loan to give him game time.

The season hasn't started yet so he hasn't played any games for them.

I have sent Adam Campbell on loan to Gateshead this season but he hasn't improved much as he had a falling out with his tutor Demba Ba. The others haven't improved much either and I have sent them on loan to various teams.

Thats my Adam Campbell at 18 years old looks like he can be a half decent poacher but nothing world class unless he starts pulling a bit more weight in training

To develop Campbell you have to make a personalised schedule for him. I personally drop his aerobic training right down to a couple of notches and I also drop his strength training down a lot too. He needs better technical attributes, so I raise his ball control and attacking training up to the maximum. He was going quite well in my previous save until I decided to start again
