He's going to a better league and will be earning more money in a good side, People harp on about him following the money which may or may not be true. But i'll ask anyone would you stay at a club where the a sizeable section of the fans that for nearly 2 years haven't appreciated you, have screamed abuse at you, got on your back at nearly every opportunity. 54 goals in about 130 starts and played mostly as a winger not a bad return.

Good luck to him and i wish him well. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I agree with these sentiments- he was an enigma because one week he was outstanding and the next invisible and that was hard for most fans to understand. Good luck to him anyway and it is probably for the best as he would have been played again as a winger

Thank god Lovenkrands is away.

He only in truth ever had one great season. When he played on the left wing, after one harsh challenge he would then disappear from the game.

Anyway on Le Guen. I have been correct from what I have said on The Dugout. He will be bringing in a whole load of youngsters (three so far) and bring in three to four first teamers (1 so far).

I remember the old Rangers thread back in 2004. That was cool.

its completely different. frirstly, Lovenkrands is far more suited to the position, and secondly, he is left footed.

He was never a left mid, but an adequateplayer to fill in whilst they looked for another.

no its not, and you know it. Hartson would make a good stand in for a CB I think, but not a LB.

Lovenkrands was ok fir left mid because he had pace and was left footed, I never said he was good there.

Prso takes long path to the top

22 May 2006

by AFP

Only nine years ago Dado Prso was a car mechanic in a small French town playing amateur football. Next month he will be playing in the FIFA World Cupâ„¢ for Croatia.

The story of how the 32-year-old climbed through the ranks of French football to become one of Europe's most accomplished forwards is one of the unlikelier tales on show at the FIFA World Cup.

And even Prso admits he can hardly believe the path his life has taken since being spotted by Monaco when playing for tiny Saint Raphael in the south of France.

"To play in the World Cup is the dream of every football player. Only three years ago this dream seemed unrealistic to me. Now, I am eagerly awaiting the beginning of the competition," Prso said.

Prso, whose real name is Miladin, is an ethnic Serb born in the coastal Croatian town of Zadar. In 1994, during Croatia's 1991-95 war of independence from the former Yugoslavia, he decided to leave his homeland.

His football career seemed stuck in Zadar, the town best known for producing basketball stars such as Kresimir Cosic and NBA star Stojko Vrankovic. But even NK Zadar passed up the chance to sign him, as did First Division side Hajduk Split, who informed him simply that he was "not promising".

So after a brief stint with local club Pazinka from the northwestern Istria peninsula, he left Croatia and settled in northern France. His hopes of a professional career were raised when Second Division Rouen took him on, but his time was spent largely on the bench and pretty soon he headed south to start a new life as a car mechanic in St Raphael.

What he earned during the day was usually spent during the night in the Riviera town's bars and casinos. Once weekly football matches for St Raphael were little more than a pastime. Prso's fortunes changed however after he met the woman who would later become his wife. Carole was responsible for convincing him to resurrect his career and in early 1997, Prso finally got a break.

St Raphael played French First Division giants Monaco in a friendly, and the young Croat was acclaimed as the man of the match. Monaco swiftly offered him a contract which he accepted. But, with David Trezeguet and Thierry Henry in the queue ahead of him for a striker's spot, he was loaned to Ajaccio.

Returning to Monaco in the 1999/2000 season, Prso scored in the last match of the season against Caen. Though he still struggled to make an impact at Monaco as he battled persistent injuries, in the 2002/03 season his career took off as he formed a devastating partnership with Shabani Nonda that reaped 38 goals, Prso contributing 12 in 20 games.

By this time he had been brought to the attention of Croatian coach Otto Baric, who named the pony-tailed striker in his squad for a March 2003 UEFA European Championship qualifier against Belgium.

Croatia won 4-0, with two of the goals scored by Prso, launching his international career in style. With the retirement of Croatia's main striker Davor Suker, Prso's place in the national team was secure.

He was a member of the Monaco side beaten in the final of the 2004 UEFA Champions League final. Despite the attentions of AC Milan, he opted for Scottish giants Rangers where he has been ever since, delighting the Ibrox faithful and helping them to the league title in 2005.

article from fifa site, I love him.

Fair play to the lad, he is never a 30k p/w player and good luck to him for getting it.

I would be seething if we were paying him that.

The schizophrenic reaction of fans to Lovenkrands leaving is understandable considering he was such a schizophrenic performer. I've rarely felt more up and down with a player over the years.

And yeah, maybe we have to take a look at what we expect from professional footballers and how frustration and impatience can manifest themselves unreasonably on the terraces at times.

I will admit feeling a tad downhearted when I got home last night to learn of his departure, as he certainly could have offered us something next season. His pace and finishing always caused problems if used correctly, while, financially, there is the issue of now effectively replacing a first team player who we could have commanded £1m+ on had he been under contract. The guy did give us some cracking memories too - that last minute header past Rab Douglas in the cup final, the bobbling shot as a substitute against Stuttgart and that fantastic finish out of nowhere in the first leg against Villareal all spring to mind.

Still, more than anyone else at the club currently, I think, Lovenkrands came to encapsulate the good and the bad of the McLeish reign - the inconsistency, the lack of confidence, the baffling positioning, the unlikely flashes of brilliance, the uneasy relationship with the support - so it is perhaps for the best that he, like his former boss, starts with a clean slate somewhere else.

I'm really quite upset about him leaving icon_frown.gif

I really thought he could have done very well for us this season if used properly and made to work harder.

I will follow his progress with Schalke, hopefully he will do well for them

Yep, it's hard to be happy to see a player who's scored so many crucial goals for us, both domestically and in europe, leave the club.

Certainly without his run in November/December we could have suffered a far more embarrassing season than we did. That said, there were times towards the end of the season that he stood out as being the laziest player on the pitch.

Equally brilliant and frustrating, most Rangers fans will be sad to see Peter go, and will happily hope it all goes well for him in Germany. So long as he doesn't continue his European scoring exploits against us should the opportunity arise icon_biggrin.gif

Wednesday, 24 May 2006

e-mailPrint

UEFA's Appeals Body has today partially upheld the appeal made against the Control and Disciplinary Body's decision concerning Scottish club Rangers FC and their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie against Villarreal CF.

Rangers fined

UEFA appealed against the decision on 12 April by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body to find Rangers not guilty of alleged discriminatory chants by the club's supporters at both legs of the tie, on 22 February at Ibrox and 7 March at El Madrigal. Rangers have been fined €19,500 and severely warned about their responsibility for any future misconduct of their supporters in relation to sectarian and discriminatory behaviour.

Future directives

In addition, the UEFA Appeals Body will combine the disciplinary measures with directives safeguarding the correct execution of the judgement. The directives themselves will be communicated to Rangers along with the full written grounds for the disciplinary decision.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Football mad Steph Knox has had all her dreams come true after being picked as the first girl to sign for Rangers.

The 11-year-old talent is set to take on the boys at the team's Murray Park training ground.

Bosses at the Ibrox club claim the move does not signal a change of policy or the establishment of a women's team.

But they admit no girl has ever impressed them enough to be enrolled in advanced training sessions - until they saw Steph play.

The young star, from Inverkip, Inverclyde, has been playing football since she could walk and has become the first girl to be signed by the club since it was founded in 1873.

Parents Alex, 41, and Carol, 38, who help coach junior side Ardgowan Thistle in Wemyss Bay where Steph also plays, say she runs circles around boys her age.

Alex said: "I couldn't believe she's the first girl to play for Rangers.

"I've always played football with her. She's got a natural ability which you can't teach.

"Playing with boys doesn't faze her. If anything I think the boys are a bit wary of her."

Today Steph said: "I was gobsmacked to get in.

"My mum and dad were really, really pleased and people have been coming up to me at school and saying 'well done'."

Steph, a pupil at Clune Park Primary, Port Glasgow, was spotted at Rangers' community development coaching at Bellahouston Leisure Centre.

The main aim of the advanced training is talent identification, but they also provide a "player pathway" for talented youngsters.

Raymond Farrelly, Football In The Community manager, said: "Steph joins our dynamic group of young footballers who have demonstrated a desire to improve.

"The quality of Rangers coaching staff will ensure Steph maximises her potential."

Steph will now join 23 boys to play at Rangers, and make use of the top-quality indoor and outdoor footballing facilities, until her training is over at the end of this year.

Rangers will then help her look for a club which will accommodate women.

She has set her sights on a ladies' side run by Kilmarnock. And if she later wants to become a professional, she could go and play in America.

That really is a massive blow for Klos, he could have been set for a return to the first team under Le Guen but now will have to sit the start of the season out. Wattereus set to accept his contract anyway so looks like we won't be getting in another keeper unless PLG wants Klos out.
