ZOMG re-gen, how would YOU develop

Recommended Posts

(tl;dr make this kid even awesomer, how?)

I've never really been all that excited about the youth side of the game so my experience grooming players is usually limited to selling off almost all my youth intake and rarely buying anyone <20. I've NEVER gone regen hunting and only really buy youth that have already developed or my scouts are freaking out about...

and then this happened....

Sedan has a bunch of rando african players (b/c the former colonies count as EU nations). I was just clicking around and came across this kid as a 15 year old lad with just absurdo stats and bought him up for 40k 3 seasons ago and haven't given it much thought until his skillset smacked me across the face on finally coming over. (MAN I wish I had taken a screenie at 15)

I've read all the basic training stuff's do the years so I know how to make him awesome but how do I make

Sako>Messi? Would you make him a specific position/role, no phys all mental training, turn him into a GK, pimp him out on sick loans, who knows, but what do I do with all this PA?

Worth noting

- for what it's worth, I finally broke down and dl'd Genie just to make sure this kid wasn't superman....he is, he still has a CA=PA-46!!!)

-I'm in mid-table Ligue 1, 3rd game season with Sedan after winning the Coupe de la Ligue (and a spot in the Euro-cup which I'm now into the KO stages) and promotion during Season 2 (IRL an upper mid-table Ligue 2 team). so have 15 allowable coaches (only 11 hired) and currently upgrading to 4* training facilities so relatively flexible on the resources I can burn on this kid

- He's 18 but spent 15-18 on a random Guinean side (as their kiddies can't go abroad until they're turn 18 and can properly spend their moneez on beer and porn) so I'm guessing his attributes aren't really all that above his 'natural' baseline.

- I've had him for 6 weeks now on a pretty standard AMC schedule with an individual focus on technique (green arrows like woah!)

... I started a game with a random mid-table Ligue 2 team (which happened to be Sedan).

oh btw, I have a psuedo idea of where to go with him that I have started to implement but I want to hold off from posting it until some other folks chime in so as to not skew the responses (and b/c it's most likely so terribad that I never want to publicly admit to having conjured it up)

He looks like a good hardworking all-round midfielder. He doesn't have flair, creativity or dribbling to be a really good AMC imo. MCl would probably be the best position to take advantage of his great longshot. Work on his jumping to make him even better as midfielder

Right now, CM - support is probably the best role for him. He hasn't got nearly enough flair to play advanced playmaker/trequartista, and he's also not great as deep lying playmaker. I actually think he'd be good as an Attacking midfielder - support too. You can also use him as a box to box midfielder.

The most important thing right now is probably tutoring. Get someone to tutor him with proper bravery and flair attributes, and high enough determination to not let that go down.

I'm not sure. Maybe it can't go up or down. Maybe, using attacking tactics and giving him lots of ball control/attacking training makes flair go up. Maybe it can go up or down with tutoring. I do know that untrainable mental stats can be changed with tutoring, so maybe flair is one of them.

Flair is the cursed stat - tutoring and ball control training can get it up but don't expect more than maybe 3 points - still nowhere near good enough. I call it the 'cursed' stat because it is very rare to find regens with good flair.

I would just invest heavily in strength, defending and tactics and try and make him into a defensive-minded midfielder.

Well said, Flair is such an epic attribute when it comes to attacking football so long as the player has other attributes to make it work, that Flair of five for this guy is a massive deficiency.

Flair does not increase easillly. Try giving the player maximum Creative Freedom and a lot of flamboyant instructions like Free Role, Longshots, Throughball and see if that works.

That's because he's not EU national. I tap up the occasional 15-year old talent from European teams, but talent from Africa or South-America can't sign for you until they're 18, and even then they might need a work permit depending on where you play. That's a real shame because a lot of good youngsters come from there, and if they're 18 that really doesn't leave you with a lot of opportunities to shape them.

My first instinct is to seperate players with high flair and low flair. Low flair = defensive player. If I had had your regen when he was 16ish, I would have turned him into a DM. Right now though, he probably has a high ability (which is all scouts really look at) but his stats are spread in the wrong way. Special stats like penalty taking or corners make me hurt a little inside because you could just as well have had those stats at 10 and have had 18 passing or dribbling, which are much more useful.

I suppose you could still have a good player by using him as a box2box midfielder or central midfielder (automatic), but he could have been something really awesome if you had had him when he was a wee lad or if he had higher flair.

I would have him tutored by an experienced attacking midfielder. You could send him out for a short loan to give him some first team experience. Also, I would slowly introduce him into the odd cup game and as time goes by, give him more and more game time

Dude, he's 18 ;)

I'd make him b2b midfielder.

Funny story, I never got to tutor him b/c I didn't have any Mid's sufficiently better than him (even when he was 18) sooo.... just went the old individual training route.

I'm also a little stubborn and play a FAST (my ass man tell's me we have the fastest team, as well as highest passing in French 1) attacking game that leave's my DC's, GK and the grace of god to save my skin if the other side decides to do something silly like to score a goal on me.

I play a 4-1-2-1-2 (no wingers, so D's, dm, 2x mc, amc, 2 STs), made him the AMC and just basically told him to go nuts.

Results, World XI by 23 and 2nd place European Midfielder of the year at 22. Broke all sorts of scoring AND assists records even without the flair. I guess in a sense, if you're good enough and fast enough you can telegraph your play all day and still get away with it, no need to be 'unpredictable'.
