San Marino Flag, Shirt & National Stadium (Stadio Olimpica; Capacity 7,000)

Info:

The San Marino national football team (Italian: Nazionale di calcio di San Marino) is the national football team of San Marino, controlled by the San Marino Football Federation (FSGC). The team has enjoyed very little success due to the republic's tiny population, the smallest of any UEFA country.

The first official game played by a San Marino team was a 4–0 defeat in a European Championships qualifier to Switzerland in 1990. Previously, a San Marino side had lost 0–1 to a Canadian Olympic team in 1986, but this was not an official match. Since making their competitive bow, San Marino have competed in qualifying for every European Championships and World Cup, but have never won a match in either competition. They have only ever won one game, beating Liechtenstein 1–0 in a friendly match on 28 April 2004.

So since their first international losing to Switzerland 4-0, San Marino have won 1 game and only drawn 4 games in 21 years, now it's my turn to try and take them forward.....no matter how long it takes.

I've also loaded the San Marino league to see what happens and how they will develop and search for the first San Marinese Wonderkid :D

Goalscorers:

Andy Selva (pen 28) - Mattia Guerra own goal (57)

Gilmark Tan own goal (45+1)

Matteo Bugil (46)

Mattia Guerra (88)

Hopefully this has given the guys some confidence for the next few European Qualifiers; home to Finland & Hungary

Man that is some big defeats. Good luck with this.

How are you going to develop the players? You have no control over that aspect as it is down to the clubs. I would manage a San Marino team as well to grow the club level status also or you will never get the players you need.

On the upside, atleast we are winning the friendly games:D

That's the worst negative goal difference I think I've ever seen in an International Qualifying Group!

lol that is some tough qualifying. What's your rating with the FA?

I think much the same is coming in the WC group as well.

San Marino as of May 2012 are ranked 206th out of 208 with 29 points

Also Andy Selva is retiring at the end of June along with a couple more of our good older players.

No one has ever done a small International career save so I would do one of two things with this career.

1) Manage all the teams yourself. I.e. U21, U19 and U18's as that will give you some kind of idea what is coming through the ranks for future players. Just managing the main team will end up driving you crazy if you keep losing all the qualifiers.

2) Maybe consider FMRTE and do some tweaks. Maybe give all the San Marino clubs good youth facilities + academies to give you a chance in future years. I am not saying look at the CA and PA of players at all just give yourself some kind of chance. Unless you can control the domestic growth you will never stand a chance.

It is a great idea to try and take a very small nation to a world cup but you are at the mercy of the AI and they do not develop a nation on their own. They need real player intervention to achieve this.

Just some ideas.

Thanks RichG, I appreciate your idea, I will take charge of the youth teams to monitor future players, but I'm anti FMRTE so I probably won't be using that.

In other news Andy Selva has retired but also this:

Hopefully this will get some good youth as they have a Youth Academy already.

Good luck with this challenge.

The usual approach for this type of club and country challenge with San Marino is taking over San Marino Calcio in the Italian lower leagues, any reasons why you decided to only load the San Marinese league?

The San Marinese league is alot smaller than loading Italy down to Serie C/2 so I wanted the game to go faster, and I thought it would be a bigger challenge as a whole.

Won the friendlies, lost the matches that matter, I expect this to be the way things go until about 2016 when we start getting some hopefully better regens in

Good luck with this one man, looks a very challenging career. I hope they don't decide to sack you before you have a chance to really turn things around for San Marino, although I'm sure they don't expect too much.

Other than the 0-0 result with Poland it wasn't exactly a good year.

I was hoping to lose by a bit less goals to Romania, then I saw that they were ranked 21st in the world...

And that keeper looks half decent too!

Impressive result against Poland and also nice to see your making progress with San Marino, I reckon you could nick a point against Malta as well.

Keep up the good work

Brilliant goal, especially from a team with such little technical skill!

And I'm with you on the 'knowing that people are following', it really helps to keep you motivated.

Guys, I think I'm going to temporarily resign from San Marino and focus on a club so we can get some youth as we aren't faring too well (lost 11-0 to England)

If you resign you might not get your job back... You may as well focus on the club and manage internationally in the background, no?

If I resign and want the job back after I've gotten youths and the league up then I could always add a new manager to the national team then retire him so I'd be able to get the job back :p
