In FM 11 I had a world class striker from Malta called Duncan Galea, hr came through my youth team. I still have the save so might fire it up. He's in his 30s now though and is no longer first choice.

this one may need some explaining

It seems pretty reasonable to me.

1. (2nd generation) Foreign surname seems fine because Australia has an enormous immigrant population.

2. Australia is now deemed part of Asia rather than Australasia/Oceana/whatever it is called now, (for footballing purposes), so it's reasonable that he would be playing in Asia.

3. The A League is ranked the 22nd highest rep'd team in Asia so it stands to reason that good young (AUS) players would leave the A League to play in higher rep leagues.

4. I'm in 2031 so it might have changed, but in my game the Saudi Pro League is the 3rd highest rep League in Asia, (so if he is going to play in Asia then again perfectly reasonable that it be in (KSA).

5. If I look at the (AUS) NT in my game, they are currently playing in the following Nations.

Australia x4, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Scotland x2, England, Greece & France.

6. If I look at the current (AUS) NT squad in real life, they currently play in the following Nations.

Belgium, Germany x2, England x3, Holland x2, Australia x3, Scotland x2, Japan, Croatia, & USA.

Although there is only 1 of a 15 man squad playing in Asia but outside Australia, Spiranvic, Wilkinson & Milligan have all played for non-Australian Asian sides during their career. Spiranvic in particular is very similar to your example. 2nd generation immigrant, (so foreign surname), with Australian Nationality and European 2nd Nationality plying his trade in Asia somewhere.

After reading these two pages, I get the feeling that for British people all countries outside the UK are potentially "weird". Except maybe the football superpowers like Italy,Argentina,Brazil,Germany etc :D

English fans are the America of the footballing world. Everywhere else is inferior and hard to tell apart.

that's not really true ^ a minnow is like a Turks And Caicos Island wonderkid, that's why you haven't seen a player who's like Serbian or something - as we know they're not minnows

By Weirdest, you would mean unusual or rare. It might also not be right to call a country 'Weird'... which is (though I'm sure not intentional) disrespect.

There's always one that completely misses the point and tries to spin things negatively. You are that poster.

On FM2012 I had an absolute monster of a right winger playing for my Everton team, he was world player of the year on a number of occasions and he was from Thailand.

It's weirder that someone born in England doesn't have British citizenship already.

Does the UK offer citizenship via birth location? It could be that his parents were one of each of the two nationalities and he just happened to be born in an English hospital.

Is that because it's not possible to have a 3rd nationality unless it is something like the Balkan states, (which have different rules), or by virtue of residency?

I have only seen 3rd Nationalities under those circumstances. I created my manager profile as Sammarinese with Welsh as a 2nd Nationality. When my son arrived he was Italian but with Sammarinese as a 2nd Nationality. (The game had ignored Welsh as an additional Nationality, but the info was still there somewhere because he spoke Welsh). I think it's an just an issue with 2nd Nationality meaning just that. 2nd and not 3rd or 4th.

According to this link, legally, a situation like that which BenArsenal gives is perfectly plausible- if neither of the parents are British citizens and neither are "ordinarily resident" in the UK, the child doesn't get British citizenship. I guess that would cover a couple from abroad giving birth while holidaying in Britain as well as situations like refugees etc.

Lawlore. Is that realistic though? I have no doubt that you are correct, but isn't it more likely that he actually does have English as a 3rd Nationality but that the game simply doesn't recognise it for the reasons already stated?

Otherwise, can you explain why my son is just Italian/Sammarinese and not Italian/Sammarinese/Welsh?

That might be my fault actually. During youth intake, I was looking for exotic nationalities. So I made two saves before the youth recruitment. On one I got Vietnamese. On the other, I got this dude. Since I didn't have another player with an Asian generic face, I carried on with that save, after importing Gervais Ndikumana's profile here. I might have skipped the player relations part. :p

As I say, what I laid out was plausible, not necessarily what was the actual case here. I don't know the limitations of the game in regens having more than two nationalities- it's not something I've ever paid a great deal of attention to. Obviously it does happen in real life (the one who springs to mind is Adnan Januzaj), but whether it can happen in-game or not, I dunno. You may well be correct in what you say, that the game simply chooses the two most prominent for a regen- I'd be surprised if SI had coded all of the rules of hereditary citizenship into the game. The fact that your son speaks Welsh is interesting, as it's clearly looking up your own language abilities to generate him in that respect in addition to your own nationality for his second one.

I don't think that's right, your half Welsh side wouldn't pass down to your son I don't think?

edit - Well, it would, but not enough to impact on FIFA regulations

Back in FM12, I had a Guatemalan called Mario Tulio Chacon, who was pretty amazing. Guatemala aren't bad, but they don't really light up the world stage, even if they seem to in the last few saves I have had over the years.

Seen quite a few Kenyans in my save this year too, but I think the Wanyama effect has come into play there.

Has any obscure nationality players had a massive impact on their national team in anyone's save by any chance? It would be good to see ie Eritrea (ref above post) hitting new heights due to a higher-than-usual level of regen
