I think it could be summarised as Reputation is King in the game, wads of cash can't surmount having a local/national rep......well, not in the short term at least.....

Just read through the all the 6 pages…

I must admit it has been very interesting reading this thread…

Excellent job, well done icon14.gif

Cannot believe that Man Utd nearly relegated.. what a nightmare scenario, my prediction would be that it will be a much improved performance by them next season…

Waiting very patiently for the next update… icon_smile.gif

Sneaky preview....

With three games to go the Bandits looked set for promotion, four points clear of Cambridge, but a draw and a loss reduced that gap to two points with one game to play.

That game?

Cambridge v Bandits

They need a draw to win the league and become a league two club - a loss and they'll have to try the playoffs again.

Will it happen?

Here's hoping, with all the money at their disposal it's about time they started working their way up.

I do have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to lose though and go on to lose in the playoffs as well.

I'll go for a draw which takes them up icon14.gif

Me too. icon_wink.gif

I already see bandits in league 2, and I'm thinking does original bandits players from 2006/07 squad has bandits as a favourite club? If it is the case, what do you think is it posible that any of those players will again play for bandits before retiring if bandits reach championship or premier?

Indeed. Although i do think that sufficient cash should over rule reputation.

I'm sure if offered a million a week, David Beckham would move to a low rep side like LA Galaxy, after all...

I agree with Abs_UK, take your tim Kip.

As much as I want to know what happens to the Bandits (I really want them to start moving up but just can't see it happening) I've enjoyed the well thought out and well written posts done by yourself immensely.

So I don't mind waiting a little while for another in-depth and well written end of season review.

Excellent thread - keep up the good work as I'm loving this one.

Fantastic thread, just found it and spent 2 hours reading it. At first I felt happy that there were 6 pages and as I'd come to the party late I could get full details. Now I feel alone and confused as I wait for the Bandits next update.

Before this thread people were rooting for their own teams on FM, now we are rooting for an edited made up team on someone elses game!

Good work mate and I bet there are a lot more people hammering the editor because of this!!

Would love to get my hands on the db at some point, would be interested in seeing what results other people came out with in the same situation

Keep up the good work though, first and last thing I check during a day now it seems, the Bandits HAVE to gain promotion soon!!

Yet another quick post to say congrats on the great thread, I've only just got through reading all of it and can't wait to find out what happens next.

My prediction, Bandits go up this season & Liverpool finally clench that Premiership title.

IMO there needs to be some link created between finances and reputation. This experiment really highlights that fact as the Bandits aren't able to make the progression expected of a club with 95mil in the bank. No club would ever have made the rise from conference to PL IRL if they faced restrictions like the Bandits.

This is more due to the fact that the games starting with a situation which wouldn't be the case in an 'official db' - if a club was in this situation in the real-world then we'd have set the 'sugar daddy' indicator which tells players they're a rich club on the 'up' and that they will have a lot of money to invest - this in turn makes players more inclined to join them.

I do agree though that in exceptional circumstances there should be more of a link from finance to reputation in the game (and posibly vice-versa) ... something to look at for the next version icon_wink.gif

Nice to see SI taking an interest in an unofficial db thread, I think it is experiments like the one kipfizh is running that enable both developers and game players see how accurately the game AI mimics real life in some instances (e.g. the development of the good players when played in the correct system and vice versa) and also where the AI falls down (e.g. the running of the bandits as a non-rich conference club by both the chairman and the manager when the opposite is in fact true)

IMO this only goes on to make game playing more exciting due to it's unpredictability, which of course takes us bakc to it mimicking real life!! icon_smile.gif

Thanks Marc - great to hear your feedback icon_smile.gif

I will be running this experiment a second time, with exceptional (good and bad) staff included, and I'll set the sugar daddy option to see how much difference that makes - it's interesting to hear how you set the difference between 'club has a one-off investment' and 'club has a rich benefactor who will keep investing'.

Fantastic to see the interest in this thread, updates should be more regular this week icon_smile.gif

re the Financial situation.

i think it's quite realistic.

you have a(previously)non-league club with millions in the bank, a 80-000 seater stadium that's full every home game. making a 20 million profit every season.

Why would you risk that by spending more money with no guarantee of earning more money than you already do?

in short there;s no reward worth the risk for the bandits management to spend more money on wages and so on. The profit margin for the bandits as a low league club is much better then if they were a premiership club with lots of money spend on wages.

Obviously the main assumption for this explanation is that the chairman is more interested in making money then in success on the pitch.

I'd suggest the following experiment,

edit a low/non-league club, so it has a bout 10 million in the bank, but it's starting with the default stadium/attendences but give it room to expand in the editor.

then add only boardmembers with the good stats, have a full team: chairman, director, director of football etc.

no coaches, scouts and stuff and no players.

Would be interesting to see who they will appoint as manager and if they can get the show running without any grey aplayers.

League

FA Cup: 1st Round

FA Trophy: 4th Round

They’ve finally done it! After seven seasons in the Conference, the Bandits, having signed no players other than youths in the last three years, have finally won promotion, clinching the league on the last day of the season. As usual, they did it the hard way, losing and drawing at the end to set up a showdown with second placed Cambridge on the final day, with only a two point lead, but they snatched a 1-0 win and went up. Cambridge won the playoffs in any case.

They shouldn’t let this fool them though – the Bandits actually didn’t have that good a season, only four points more than the previous season, when they came 5th, and in fact their first season in the Conference, where 74 points was only good enough for 7th. It seems the lack of runaway sides enabled the Bandits simply to be the best of the rest.

But that’s all irrelevant now. They’ll attract far better clubs now that they’re in the league, they’ll no longer have to qualify for the FA Cup, and the League Cup coming into play means they have the odd shot at a giant killing. Will they push on from here, or will League Two be a struggle for them?

Notes: A strange season as he concedes loads but still manage 18 clean sheets in his first season after a big money move to North London. Reaches 24 caps though and appears to be the first choice stopper with the World Cup coming up. Arsenal have a poor season, falling down to sixth, and his CA seems to be slow to rise, as the only player from the Bandits 22 not to reach the 200 AI mark. Third in European Goalkeeper of the Year.

Notes: Puts in another excellent season of performances for his club, as they recover to finish 8th in the league. An FA Cup final appearance, albeit a 4-0 hammering by Chelsea, gives them European football next season, but they are now without silverware for four seasons. He should get his wish, as his contract is up at the end of the month, so it’s anyone’s guess as to where he’ll go next. But his attitude is harming his international career, as he adds only three more caps to reach 27 with two goals.

Notes: After last season’s superb third position, Fulham fell flat this time around, finishing one point and one place off the drop zone, having spent much of the season in the bottom three. Despite this, the idiot played a starring role this season, and didn’t complain once.

The European experience was fantastic, however, as they reached the semi-finals.

He has 31 caps and three goals, and seems happy. For now.

Other stats

Again, England won their qualifying group, winning ten out of ten without conceding a goal, and haven’t conceded a goal since the group stage of the Euros (they lost on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Germany). Incredibly, they’ve only conceded that one competitive goal (to France) since the Euros in 2008, six summers ago. Can they retain the World Cup? Having Ukraine, Japan and Zambia in their group should help.

Liverpool won the league at a canter, with Newcastle surging back to finish runners up. Man Utd improved, but only to eighth, while QPR were a surprise package in 7th. Fulham nearly went down after coming third last time around.

Premiership

Chelsea only won one domestic trophy, the FA Cup, hammering Man Utd in the final, while West Ham beat Wigan in the League Cup final (Wigan keep losing finals!).

In Europe, Barcelona pipped Arsenal to the Champions League, while Roma got the better of Milan (who also keep losing finals) in the UEFA Cup.

Summary

So they’ve finally done it, the Bandits are now a league club, and will be battling in new competitions next season. This opens the door for a potential squad improvement, will it be an opportunity the manager takes, or will he trust his squad to keep moving the club upwards to better things? How will they fare in the League Cup?

In the league, Man Utd recovered, alond with Newcastle, while Fulham went the other way. But Liverpool dominated the league from start to finish, with only a couple of stars. But Striker 4 is in a league of his own up front.

Chelsea won their third consecutive treble, although the cups were more minor this time, how long can they keep the ‘three trophies a season’ run going?

Where will Idiot A go?

And finally, Justin Edinburgh, manager of the Bandits for so long, will get his chance for revenge next season after his sacking two years ago, when his Gillingham side take on the Bandits. Gillingham came 10th in League Two this season.

Loads of money, but no obvious improvement in the quality of player willing to join. That may change with time, but they can certainly still sign players worth far more than their existing lot – will they?

Pejic, DC, 31, 64-99 (-8)

At the top end, there are a bunch of players that aren’t going to improve anymore, but behind that, there’s some young players with good potential. Law and Jeweel particularly look good, but they’ll need to improve to combat League Two.

The loss of Terrell hits the top end, but the ability levels around 80-100 have been boosted well. This graph still needs to improve next year.

My shortlist of 24 players now looks like this:
