FM11 - Tottenham Hotspur - Rise of the Triffics (take 3)

Recommended Posts

I meant to be posting this a while back but the forums went down as you are all aware. Anyway I started a game unemployed on sunday rep and eventually worked my way to getting the Tottenham job around 2025. And finally after a few years as manager I have won the clubs first ever champions league title :)

Egfys.png

My club is entirely made up of regens with some outstanding players, if anyone is interested in any of my players I'll post some screenshots for you. I do want to share arguably my best player (and now a Tottenham legend) Paupol Mputu.

Won 6/7 trophies in season 2. Won the treble for the first time.. gutted at our only defeat in the league - it was on the penultimate game! We also went 52 league games unbeaten, beating Arsenal's record.

I rotate Modric and Van der Vaart so when one plays the other is on the bench depending on fitness or injuries.

Decided to start a 2nd save with a updated database so I have Friedel on board

Season 1 review

Transfers

Like in real life, the squad is good enough barring the strikers department. So in came Adebayor on loan and a big money signing Rossi from Villarreal.

I also added versatile player Jan Vertonghen to give us more depth in central defence and midfield.

OuI21.png

Formation

GK - Gomes

DR - Corluka

DC - Dawson

DC - King

DL - Gallas

MC - Hudds

MC - Palacios

AMR - Bale

AMC - VDV

AML - Modric

S -Rossi

I'm pretty pleased with how the tactic and formation turns out as shown by the stats later. 4 players managed to get into double figures in both assists and goals. The 3 attacking midfielders all getting 20 assists and above.

Competitions

League

The number of goals and Man Utd drawing too many games ensured that I won the title with 4 games left. The 3 defeats coming from Chelsea, Fulham and Man Utd.

BfxLt.png

Carling Cup

A Modric 90th 'winner' fails to complete a comeback as we crashed out on away goals after extra time.

fAcdb.png

Europa League

A successful campaign as we managed to lift the cup at the end of it. Beating Arsenal on route to it makes it even sweeter.

tvcOZ.png

FA Cup

Forgotten man Keane was the hero as he came off the bench to make an assist and score a goal in the semi-finals against his boyhood club was the catalyst for our success here.

Yes, I'm using Metal_Guitarist's Football Manager 2011 11.3 Database Update. It's updated with the latest players transfers and Spurs in the Europa League instead of CL. No changes to attributes/CA and PA.

Check out post #670 for download link.

Been a while, but I resumed my Spurs save :) Nearing the end of October and the squad has yet to drop any points in all comps. My most memorable wins have been a 1-0 nailbiter over Milan at the San Siro and a shock 4-0 win over United at OT

Gareth Bale has been an absolute beast with 17 goals in 15 appearances while Defoe has 11 goals and VdV has been solid. I will post some screenies when I get home from work, but it's been fun...

This transfer window has made me hungry for another spurs save, so will restart one of these days. I think I'd like to do a 4411, which I think would emulate real life the most. I would most like to amend our striker situation. Thinking Yaya Sanogo would be a good bet to play alone on top, or maybe that brazilian chap (Damaio?) we are constantly linked to.

Would line up something like this (parenthesis means backup)

GK: Gomes (Cudicini)

DR: Walker (Corluka)

DL: BAE (New signing)

DC: King (Bassong)

DC: Dawson (Kaboul)

MR: Lennon (Bentley)

ML: Bale (Kranjcar)

MC: Modric (Thudd)

MC: Palacios (Sandro)

AM: VdV (Pienaar)

SC: Defoe (New signing).

This means I will try to move out Pav and Crouch, as well as some of the usuals (JJ, Gallas, Hutton etc.). I will also consider selling Modric, as I am tired of him IRL. However, it does seem he is coming to his senses?

If anyone has some good ideas for a young LB and a great goalscorer, please let me know. I'll update once I get the save rolling.

Sad to see this thread being less than active. In any case I started up my save last night.

Transfers out:

Jenas 9,75M to Citeh

Crouch 400k loan to Newcastle

Youngsters out on loan

Transfers in:

Wendt 1.1M

Jack Robinson 2M

Babacar 8M

I'm considering getting RVN in to tutor Babacar (Pippo wont come), and will look to bring in Yaya Sanogo in January. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the squad, and sure we can have a decent first season.

-----

I've played four games so far, all victories:

Spurs-Wigan: 3-1

Auxerre-Spurs: 2-3

Villa-Spurs: 1-2¨

Spurs-Auxerre: 5-2

Both Pav and Defoe have been scoring freely when played, and Babacar even got a goal on his debut! I hope this holds, as both Defoe and Pav tend to have some annoying dry patches.

Started a game with a transfer update and I'm currently in to mid-November.

IN:

Baines - £10m

Adrian - £1.8m

Hlousek - £2.6m

Kuciak - £1.1m

Baines was brought in to be my starting LB, whilst Adrian and Hlousek were to give me some more options on the wings, AMC and upfront. Kuciak was a cheap backup keeper in case Friedel got injured.

OUT:

Cudicini - £2.3m

Keane - £3.7m

Bentley - Ln fee £500k (Future fee £9.5m)

Gomes - Ln fee £500k (Future fee £9m)

Hutton - Ln fee £1.4m (Future fee £5.5m)

A few other youngsters have also been loaned out.

Got rid of Cudicini and Gomes for this season because their wages took up quite a bit. Keane, Hutton and Bentley didn't stand a chance of getting any games so I tried to sell them as well.

For January I have two pre-arranged sales: King - £6.25m and Palacios - £10m. I think I'm also going to try and sell Jenas, Pav and Crouch and try and replace with British talent.

Squad currently looks like:

GK: Friedel/Kuciak

RB: Walker/Corluka

LB: Baines/Ekotto

CB: Dawson/Gallas

CB: Bassong/Kaboul

LM: Bale/Pienaar

CM: Modric/Kranjcar

CM: Huddlestone/Sandro

AMR: Lennon/Adrian

AMC: VDV/Adrian

ST: Defoe/Hlousek

Target for January is to try and aquire a winger to challenge Lennon/Bale, centre back to replace Gallas at the end of the season and possibly another striker if I get rid of Pav and Crouch. Anyone got any suggestions? At the moment I'm torn between Tomkins, Dann and Shawcross as my CB- the other two positions I'm drawing blanks.

After 13 games in the league I sit in 4th place on 29pts, 5pts off top place Arsenal. Record: W:9 D:2 L:2 GF:34 GA: 15. Whilst I continue to be top scorers of the league my defence seems to leak goals, partly due to my team playing attacking football. Friedel should be replaced at the end of the season.

I fancy Spurs or a top 4 finish this season if they can keep their midfield together and bring in a striker from the Crouch/Palacios money.

Forget to mention in my first update about how well Hlousek and Adrian are doing.

Hlousek - 4 apps (8 sub) - 6 goals - 2 assists

Adrian - 8 apps (8 sub) - 3 goals - 4 assists

Best team threads i have ever sat and read through most pages, just started a game with spurs the other night. Heres some info.

Reputation - International Footballer

Transfers out:

Roman Pavlyuchenko - Atheltico Madrid Loan fee 250k

Aaran Lennon - Arsenal 5.5m

Willson Palacious - Fc Bayern 5m

Dos Santos - Atletico Madrid 4.6m

Younes Kaboul - Lyon Loan fee 130k

Niko Kranjcar - Villareal Loan fee 180k

Jermaine Jenas - Man City - 4.4m

Transfers in:

Jordan Henderson from Sunderland 10m

Charlie Adam from Blackpool 10m over 4 years

Carlos Garcia from Juventus 425k

Amine from Sporting 825k

Henri Saivet from Bordeaux 5m

Luis Suarez from Ajax 25m over 4 years

Romelu Lukaka from Anderlecht 15m over 4 years

Steven Defour from Standard 18m over 4 years

Eden Hazard from LOSC 16.75m over 4 years

Some people play palacious but i dont have a spot for him in my team, same with arran lennon, some of his stats are great but far too many are low, pretty much wasnt going to play jenas either.

Charlie adam has been playing well along with RVV, top scorer is defoe, suarez has been very disapointing and is also unstelled in this area :(

I am liking the look of jordan henderson!

Any ideas how to get the best out of lukaka and suarez?

Good Preview, Eddie. I've always liked Defoe, and if he clicks I *think* it might turn out ok. Pav is pretty decent as well. Keane and Crouch must go, though, and then we're gonna need someone anyway. I read Rossi mentioned again today.

No chance with Rossi, we missed the boat on that one, and i think he'll wait till next summer and hope for a Milan/Juver/Inter/Real/Barca- which is his level to be honest.

Think i might wait on my Spurs save and start after the full transfer update comes out in September. Get us back into the CL. Also because i want to wait on which striker we sign(if any).

I'm in the midst of a dominant first season in charge of my beloved Spurs. I focused on signing young players to bring up and develop into homegrown players. I got rid of Cudicini, Pav, and Jenas before the season started and kept the rest of the squad.

My team to start the season:

GK: Gomes/Butland

DR: Corluka/Hutton

DC: Gallas/Jones

DC: Dawson/Kaboul

DL: BEK/Bassong

MCR: Huddlestone/Sandro

MCL: Modric/Kranjcar

AMR: Lennon/Pienaar

AMC: VdV/Kranjcar

AML: Bale/Kranjcar

FC: Defoe/Belfodil/Crouch

I've gone unbeaten so far with the only blemishes being a 0-0 draw with Milan in CL play and a 2-2 draw at Chelsea. Bale, Defoe, and VdV were the stars with goals, assists, and influence. Bale has scored a ton of goals from the wing position while Defoe has been impressive until he got injured :( Belfodil supplanted Crouchie and scored 10 goals in all comps in largely a sub role. Sandro has been impressive and I've used him to protect the back four in the CL and big games. Phil Jones has been immense as he's had to step in due to injuries to Dawson, Gallas, and King

Crouch and Palacios have been really disappointing and I'm planning to off-load both in the January window. Woody's coming back so he'll be able to add some depth to my depleted defense. I've just clinched a deal to bring Neymar into the side to be my long term striker and to take pressure off Belfodil since I've lost Defoe for 2 months! Will post some screens of my best results.

COYS!

I think if we sign Adebayor, this is the formation i'm going to try out;

...............Gomes.................

Walker..Kaboul..Bassong...BAE

............Huddlestone............

.........Sandro....Modric.........

........VdV..............Bale.......

..............Adebayor.............

Hopefully we'll sign Diarra too and offload some players. I always turn off the 1st window, so i won't be able to do any shopping! In Jan i'll bring in another player. Mid-term i want a new keeper(Gomes has been downgraded), a CM to replace Modric(who i will sell end of season for his little betrayal-but he's useful now), a young CB and of course 2 strikers to replace Defoe and Adebayor/Crouch. Pavlyuchenko stays cos i like him and he's awesome on FM :D

Flipping hell! What a beast. Who did you sign him from? Dallas? LA Galaxy?

He came from Kansas City originally, but I got him from a European team (Vitesse, I think?) for 7m GBP, when he was 18 or so.

Neymar's been on fire since coming over in January. In 7 games, he has 10 goals and he's been more reliable than Defoe. I'm trying to offload Crouch but no one wants him :( I'm starting to run into a situation where I've got too many central defenders. With Woody and Gallas getting healthy again, they will now compete with Jones, Khumalo, and Kaboul. Dawson's still out, but he'll be back soon

To be honest, I'm likely going to let Woodgate and Gallas leave at the end of the season. King's going to be back and with Kaboul, Jones, and Daws, they will be more than enough. Plus, their wages are high and I'll be diverting them to new contracts for VdV, Bale, and Modric

After Neymar, I'm not going to sign anyone else as the squad is now set. Should be a good second half as I play Stoke in the CC Final, Bayern in the CL, and West Ham in the FA Cup 5th Round. COYS!

I've just finished my 1st part season as Spurs. Started my game off at Doncaster and after gaining promotion with them I lead them into the EPL. After 11 games of the season Harry was sacked with Spurs sitting 17th in the table. I was approached, as had Spurs as my favourite club (as I support them). I upped sticks, and left Donny who were 8th for White Hart Lane.

The season has just ended and I guided Spurs, with the same side that Harry had to a 3rd place finish, only losing 1 league game - although we were a considerable distance behind Man Utd and Arsenal. We also managed to secure the Europa League title (one competition Harry was successful in prior to being sacked). I am now close season preparing to enter my first full league season at the lane (season 3 in game), so hope to update this more as time progresses. My inherited squad includes the following:

Fabio Quagriella (amazing forward who hammered 31 goals last season). Along with Defoe who netted 27 we had a potent strike force.

Lorenzo di Agositini was also brought in, but I rarely used him, preferring Kyle Walker at RB.

Solem Tchoyi (sp) signed from West Brom, again, rarely used as Lennon and Bale are much better wide men.

Will update once things progress beyond pre-season in Season 3. Oh, and Doncaster went on to appoint Sam Allardyce, picked up 9 points for the duration of the season and finished bottom.
