Nobby_McDonald
2038/39 - Newcastle Town (Championship) Board: Respectable position Media: 10th Bookies: 40-1 Season tickets: 2075 (up 53) £889,987 Club value: £5,750,000 The Chairman sells Jordan Bartley and Johannes Hintersberger so we lose 3 wingers since last season finished. Despite this we score 5, 4, 4, 7, 2, 3 as we romp to victory in our first six games. Through the first quarter of the season we stay at the top. A horrific 3-7 home defeat to Nottingham Forest sees us slip to 4th at Christmas. Our Chairman then sells another winger, Carl Simpson, to Leeds for £1,600,000. Our form becomes patchy, but in the New Year we sit just outside the playoffs. With ten to go, we're on form, free scoring and only eight points behind the leaders Leicester with a game in hand. Then we don't score in three and lose the next four. We recover with five wins and a draw in our last six to secure a playoff spot. In the Semi Finals, we can't make the most of an early red card to draw 1-1 at Hull. We then capitulate in the second leg and lose 0-2. Miss out yet again. Arse. Nobby_McDonald
In the off season, the board decide to cancel the much needed improvements to the training and youth facilities in favour of deciding to increase the stadium again. Then only a week later, the board have negotiated to cash in one the sell on profit clause from selling Carl Simpson. This nets us £3,560,000. Thanks for cancelling the upgrades then. AK22
Very unlucky again then Nobby Do you really need the stadium expansion? Or would the facilities improvement be more beneficial?
Nobby_McDonald
I know AK. I keep knocking on the door. I've signed a couple of defenders on loan for next season to try and shore up the perennial leaky defence. That or it's my Mike Bassett style of tactics. I didn't even ask for the stadium expansion. I had the facilities improvement improved, but the board went for the stadium expansion. To be fair, if the away team bring their full allocation, every league match is a sell out. DSYoungEsq
Great to see this career is still going!! This sort of slog up the English pyramid seems to me a harder ask than my contemporaneous Welsh effort, which ended in frustration after the '33-'34 season. Nobby_McDonald
I'm still going. Strong but slowly. This season was a little disappointing yes. I'm trying to build at the back for next season. Scoring goals hasn't been a problem for a long time but conceding them has been.
AK22
Shame that you went backwards a bit, but it could have been a lot worse. Still reasons to be optimistic for next season
