2028/9 - Newcastle Town (League One)

It's goodbye to two stalwarts

Board: Stay clear of relegation

Media: 21st

Bookies: 40-1

Season tickets: 1212 (down 11)

The club takeover, which had been dragging on for some time was finally completed in September. A director was promoted to chairman and no investment was made.

On the pitch we make a good start, including a 3-0 win over West Ham who went on to dominate the league.

We then suffer a big drop in form which drops us to mid table. We do recover and finish well, and going into the final league game of the season, five teams are chasing one playoff spot.

6. Rotherham 69 points

7. Brighton 68

8. Scunthorpe 68

9. Bradford City 67

10. Newcastle Town 67

We did our bit on the final day as we were victorious, and we waited for the other results to come in.

Bradford City 2 Barnsley 0

Northampton 0 Brighton 2

Oxford United 0 Newcastle Town 3

Peterborough 1 Rotherham 2

Scunthorpe 3 Hampton & Richmond 1

All five teams won. Still, it was a huge improvement on last season and gives me renewed hope again for next season.

A little disappointing for Manchester United who could only reach the Europa League final and missed out on qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Brooks himself had a season blighted by several niggling little injuries which limited him to have short bursts in the team rather than long runs though it hasn't stopped England manager Steve Round picking him for the World Cup squad.

Finally, our two stalwarts who are saying goodbye to us, both retiring after many years at the club.

Second is our rock at the back, and a player who for a long time was duelling with Paul Gallagher for record number of league appearances until an injury layoff at the start of this season. He and Gallagher are the only players to have come all the way up from the Northern Premier League First Division South.

Stayed up later than I should have the other night reading through all of this. Very absorbing stuff. Newcastle Town very much on the map now.

Thanks Mike. We're firmly established in the third tier, five seasons now.

So...can you still call yourself "town" after the likely increase to the population your growth probably has caused? ;)

Ha ha, very much so. Newcastle-under-Lyme in real life has around 75,000 inhabitants and is joined to the city of Stoke-on-Trent which has in the region of 240,000. In the past pretty much all Newcastle residents have supported Stoke City with them being the biggest local league team, but I think I've pinched a few thousand. :)

Just caught up Nobby, and glad to see you still jamming away at it. Still doing m long-term 11 save as well. Do you have 12? I do, but haven't started a real save with it yet. Anyway, enjoying the career!

Love it when you take a player all the way through the ranks with you .
Particularly when it's a newgen, so you know you're the only person to have ever managed him.

Not just one but three counting Paul Gallagher, who has replaced Cassidy as my captain. He spent two years at Fulham though before he came to me.

Thanks Hook.

I did succumb to 12 when Steam knocked it down to £8 after the final patch. I haven't even played a full season on it though.

Definitely a surprizing World Cup! But always nice to see other nations step up. Shows the range of football across the world.

I agree. I think it helps that practically every nation has at least one league active in this save even if a lot of them are view only.

Only just realised how much of a long-term career this is. Started in 2010 real-life time, still in League 1. :D To be fair that was a ton of tiers to climb.

Awesome to see a player like David Brooks go through your side at the lower ranks then move to great things at the very top level.

Yeah, I still have a couple to go. :D

Brooks has this season become England's record goalscorer and he's still only 28. One of the best three players I've ever had in all the history of CM/FM.

2029/30 - Newcastle Town (League One)

It's goodbye to our record league appearance holder. It's hello to our record league appearance holder.

Board: Respectable league position

Media: 12th

Bookies: 25-1

Season tickets: 1259 (up 47)

Despite losing our first two games we make a good start.

Our Youth Academy opens part way into the season so it will be interesting to see the quality of our youth players in a couple of years time.

By Christmas we're showing consistancy and sit just below the playoffs.

We maintain a steady level of form and approach the run in in a similar position. However our challenge fades as we struggle to win in the final few games.

Good to see Gallagher staying with the club. Does he have ambitions for management himself?

Hellmund looks a great attacking fullback, is that where you used him? Any chance of getting him back for next season?

Another solid season

Gallagher has fairly solid stats to start his backroom career with, so he may well make it if he wants to. I'll have to check next time I play.

Hellmund has already gone elsewhere on loan for this season, Brondby I think.
