Been doing alright in my first season:

I've had to do without Nando and Stevie G for fair chunks of the season, but they're both on the mend now and I can get back to my 4-2-2-2, which I've not been using too much recently due to their injuries. I'm still in the Euro Cup, with a match against Villareal in the 2nd knockout round coming up, but at 8 points behind with 2 games in hand my goals are what every Liverpool manager's should be; the league.

Not really spent enough time blooding youngsters, but Assulin, Babacar and Hazard all get regular football, and I'm looking to bring through Suso, Pacheco, Shelvey and Wilson next season.

Just looking, I can see that I've conceded 18 goals and lost 6 goals, while Man Utd have conceded 21 and only lost 2, which is annoying.

Mind you, they did lose a fair few of those goals in a 6-1 spanking at Anfield.

I've been given the opportunity to sign Mexes on a free for a wage just under 75K- thoughts? yes/no?

I've never trusted Mexes. Those wages are hideous as well. I'd say no.

First post on the new Liverpool FC Thread so would just like to say hello to everybody. I've just finished my first season and it was very successful considering. I kept the same tactics which I previously used for FM10, tweaking a few things here and there to compensate changes within the game, and they worked like they had before, exceptionally!

Season One

My main tactic used was a [4-1-3-2] with a secondary specialised [4-4-2] used for certain opposition. They worked a treat and I managed to remain unbeaten in the league all season winning 28 games and drawing 10, this down to conceding goals in the last 15, mainly due to players I have being lazy and making mistakes - Glen Johnson and Fábio Coentrão to name a few.

The majority, if not all of my signings had a small cash fee up front and the rest over 48 months, I prefer doing business this way unless clubs persistently re-negotiate then I’m more likely to pay everything up front.

First Year Signings:

*£13m - Carlos Hernández (Regen GK - Jan): Pepe’s future replacement

*£1.2m - Gokmen Sahin (Regen DR - Jan): Johnson’s replacement

*£2.8m - Kevin

*£550k - Federico Fazio: Replaced Carragher during the season as I wanted to improve his stats.

*£7m - Fábio Coentrão

*£7.5m - Steven Defour

*£20m - Eden Hazard

*£8.25 - Diego Buonanotte

*£3.3m - Oscar Cardozo (Jan)

*£6m - Romelu Lukaku

First Year Departures:

*£3.75 - Dirk Kuyt (Loan Fee)

*£1.7m - Sotiris Kyrgiakos

*£5.75m - Ryan Babel

*£3.2m (Inc. clause buyouts) - Jack Robinson

*£11m - Maxi Rodriguez

*£9.5m - Martin Skrtel

Honours:

Premier League Title: Won with 3 games to go.

EURO Cup: 4 - 0 win over Rangers

FA Cup: 5 - 2 win over West Ham

Runner Up:

League Cup: Lost 2-1 to Middlesbrough (..how, I do not know haha).

Review:

Well apart from my League Cup defeat the whole season went incredibly well. However, although my team played very well (9 out of the starting 11 made the EPLs Team of the Season) I never enjoyed some of the football played by a few players which is the reason I decided to ship some out or buy replacements.

Agger featured heavily throughout the season however his constant mistakes started to annoy me, giving away silly free kicks, losing the ball in dangerous positions and getting sent off for reckless challenge I decided to drop him for Fazio/Wilson who both played surprisingly well. Fazio’s stats have improved nicely and he will warrant a starting place next season alongside Otamendi.

Lukaku (Apps 19(28)/ Gls 9) and Pacheco (Apps 25(31)/ Gls 13) have improved remarkably since the start of the game and played reasonably well during the first season. I’m thinking of sending these two out on loan to get them more first team experience. What do you guys think?

Key Players: *Fernando Torres, *Steven Gerrard, *Eden Hazard, *Pepe Reina, *Diego Buonanotte

Disappointments: *Glen Johnson, *Daniel Agger, * Fábio Coentrão, *Steven Defour

Season Two

I’m now about to start my second season. I’ve made quite a few purchases, the majority are for the future i.e. regens or promising youngsters, or to replace players I found to be under performing.

As a result I’ve had a massive clear out too either releasing or selling a lot of the dead wood including players not featuring in my plans. Although several players disappointed me last season I’m going to give them another chance to see how they perform, hopefully greater competition will spur them on!

I’m also going to be giving more chances to Danny Wilson, Gokmen Sahin and possibly a few others this season.

Signings:

*£7.5m - Nicolás Otamendi

*£8.5m - Domenico Criscito

*£13m - Sergio Canales

*£10m - Carlos Tevez

*£3.6m - Martín Galván

*Free - Terence Makengo

*Free - Borja Bastón

*£1.4m - Çağlar Pala (Regen ST)

*£1.6m - Rodrigo Pérez Álvarez (Regen ST)

*£2.2m - Matthias Fall (Regen AMC/ST)

*£1.3 m - Ahmed Foulouh (Regen AMC/AML)

*£3.7m - Carmelo Rodríguez Martín (Regen ML)

*£1.1m - Enrique Vanitou (Regen DR)

Total £59.3m

Departures (Not including Released Players):

*£5m - Christian Poulson

*£34m (Total Inc. clauses) - Raul Meireles

*£3.5m - Milan Jovanovic

*£17.5 (Total Inc. clauses) - Daniel Agger

*£2.6 m - Phillip Degen

*£12.75m (Total Inc. clauses) - Dirk Kuyt

Total £75.35m

He is a brilliant CB, but one who likes to bring the ball out of defence. I'd say no if you still have Agger or yes if you've sold the Dane.

The idea was to sell both Agger and Skrtel within the first 3 seasons and replace them with bigger and better defenders. They're certainly capable but they're no Alex/Terry, Ferdinand/Vidic, Puyol/Pique are they? I'll probably sell Agger and keep on to Skrtel is that's the case.

First game of the my second season, 4 - 0 up against Portsmouth, Canales scored two amazing screamers, Buonanotte scored a 25 yarder and Tevez a pen..... then the game goes off :|

That happened to me, 7 games in to pre-season without a back-up. It's done it once mid-way through a game against Blackburn too, not happened since. I now save before every match until I hear of any solutions.

I actually think they can be that good! I'm definatly going to stick with them both anyway. Having said that, I can see where you're coming from. Don't forget however, when making your decision, don't forget that Agger is consideraby better than Skrtel both short and long term.

Meh, it's highly annoying, every goal apart from the pen I was going to upload too, they were amazing! Ah well, replayed the game and won 8 - 0, no screamers unfortunately this time!

My Scout has just recomended an amazing regen to me too, will upload a pic soon!

At 22:50, MH was announced the new manager of Liverpool, He's promised the owners to challenge for the title giving him a nice 32.5M to spend this summer!

Poulsen, Babel, and Itandje have all been transfer listed.

Wilson, Kelly and Spearing have all been promoted to the first team.

Let the new Anfield saga begin!

Btw it's good to be back lads! :D Alot of new faces around I'm sure I'll get to talk to soon :p

Are the two not pretty much near their potential ability now? Don't get me wrong, utilized correctly I can imagine they'd be an absolute force, but to what extent? What happens when my current defence plays R.Madrid? I imagine they'd puncture holes left right centre.

Here is my opening gambit, I’ve tried to use the strategy that NESV have put in place and bought young talented players whom should retain (if not increase) in value and thus cannot really be described as risks:

summertrans.jpg

Leaves me with a squad (and starting 11) that looks like this:

startxi.jpg

I’m well happy with it, won every game I’ve played so far and that includes a 4-1 away at Everton and an 8-3 away at Sunderland.

The formation that I’ve built is a brain child of my hatred for the stupidity of the tabloid press’ inane rants about the 4-4-2 over the course of the summer. I’ve built a simple 4-4-2 which is ‘flexible’ and can stand up in modern day football.

The wide men (one a winger / one a playmaker out wide, ala Iniesta / Pedro) along with one of the forwards (trequista) are roaming into each other’s position and playing beautiful flowing football. The No. 9 (poacher) is benefiting from this massively, as is the box to box midfielder arriving late after the defence has been dragged about all over the place.

Need to sort out the defence if I want to win the league / cups however, and that might mean toning down my wingbacks or at least one of them, and finding a good balance between defence and attack.

How do you set them up (including FBs and the shield you put up infront of them).

You realize from all those 3 transfers you could have raised anywhere between £4-5M over the course of the season? :p

How do you set them up (including FBs and the shield you put up infront of them).

You know, worryingly there's not much emphasis on my defence at all. In fact all I've changed in their player instructions are their marking, and it lines up with the two FB's on zonal marking, one CB on tight man marking and the other just on man marking. As I said, its' served me well- I've conceded just 12 in the league after 24 games, but those 12 have come at a cost, i.e. 3-2 loss to Man City. I'm tempted to try and deploy the "Nike Defence" system (Cover-Stopper).

You could do it on the demo.. just give the player a higher signing on fee and **** the agent off.. no agent deserves 1M, the player can have anything he wants though. ;)

I wish Villa would just go ahead and sack Houllier already. The tabloids have been poisoning my news feed for the last god knows how long saying the next game will be the decider....JEEEEEEZ. Also, I just lost my third match of the campaign, again, Sunderlanding outscoring my effort of 2 with 3. (3-2 :p)

I had the same thing Ash! I couldn't of cared less what Villa did to Houllier but after beating them they decided to sack him after the game :D!

My Liverpool team beginning to annoy me! cannot for the life in me beat Arsenal or Chelsea, and I'm throwing away points - like just now 2-1 against Wigan and then N'Zogbia scores 2-2 full time:@!

Think i should get to bed before i get anymore annoyed with them lol.

On a better note Genoa have offered me Criscito £7.75mill but looks like i might have competition with AC Milan and company! Would like to make sure i get him as i missed out on Coentrao at the beginning of the season & then i can use Bale were he's best, on the left wing.

So just finished my first season finishing 2nd to Arsenal by goal difference :(

Knocked out of Euro Cup by Shaktar just after the group stage, early FA cup exit to Burnley :( (sent out a young team), lost league cup final to a last min goal against Chelsea.

I was lucky that Gerrard and Torres had a pretty injury free season, Hazard was great as always, Jose Angel was a good left back, Babacar was a great replacement for N'gog and Yann M'Villa did great as DM. All were great signings.

I am now starting again and will be going for more of a good financial save. Probably try to keep the fees over 48month signing to a minimum and wait for some january bargains. There seemes to be loads of good players offered then for cheap and i had spent everything i had in the summer. Bargains is the key. :)

I will still be signing my usual lot of players which is typically good young future stars (I try to prioritize English > British > Foreign) and a few younger first team stars ala Hazard, Babacar.

Out of interest what do you all pick as your past experiance when assigning yourself as manager? In FM10 i always picked international footballer as it seemed to help with getting good performances from the top stars but for FM11 i just picked automatic and it was more of a challenge. Quite fun.

Here's the first FM11 post from yours truly MH ;)

Hazard and Sissoko both purchased over 48months.

Konchesky, Babel and Jovanovic are all rotting in the reserves after no interest what so ever for them.

1STransfers.png

First game in charge got off to a 5 star performance! Leaving most of the big names on the bench.

Lukaku become the youngest player and goal scorer for Liverpool in the process!

You know MH, Jovanovic isn't all that bad. In fact he's definitely worth keeping in the squad for the first season at least.
I keep as a backup to Cole scores the odd goal for me.Also 1st season players i never sell as it wont happen IRL.

I did think that after I'd upset him, have to talk to him and cheer him up and get him playing again.

Babel on 60K and Konchesky on about 40K need to go though!

Im off to a slow start in the league losing pace with the top 4 already & its only september.

It's still only early mate, start worrying around January time :p

Great Just lost Nando for 7 weeks now after he was out for 6 weeks earlier.

Not good :(

Getting some sleep be on tomorrow though when my season really begins!! :D

Anyone bought the 17yo wonderkid from Bilbao Ath.

Iker Muniain??

I've gone back and read some threads about him from older versions (i haven't played FM for about 5seasons :D)

Anyways - he is arriving on 9th June for the princely sum of £11mil!!!

So the plan is a Spanish attack comprising of Torres / Pacheco / Munian and then in a few seasons Stevie can play the DMC role ala John Barnes (hopefully til he is 43!)
