History

Liverpool Football Club is an English professional football club that plays in the Premier League. Liverpool have played at Anfield since their foundation in 1892 and were admitted to the Football League a year later.

Having won a joint-record 18 league titles, seven FA Cups and a record seven League Cups, Liverpool is the joint most successful club in the history of English football. The club is the most successful English club in European competition, having won five European Cups and three UEFA Cups.

Liverpool has long-standing rivalries with neighbours Everton and with Manchester United.

Liverpool F.C. was founded following a dispute between the Everton F.C Committee and John Houlding, club president and owner of the land at Anfield. After eight years at the stadium, Everton relocated to Goodison Park in 1892 and Houlding founded Liverpool F.C. to play at Anfield. Originally named Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd (Everton Athletic for short), the club became Liverpool F.C. in June 1892 after The Football Association refused to recognise the club as Everton. In its debut season, the team won the Lancashire league, before joining the Football League Second Division at the start of the 1893–94 season. After finishing in first place, the club was promoted to First Division, which it won in 1901, and again in 1906. The club won back-to-back league championships in 1922 and 1923, but did not win another trophy until the 1946-47 season when the club won the First Division for a fifth time.

Soon after losing 2–1 to non-league Worcester City FC in the 1958–59 FA Cup, Bill Shankly was appointed manager and released 24 players. He converted a room at Anfield used for boot storage into a room where the coaches could talk strategy; here, Shankly and other "Boot Room" members Joe Fagan, Reuben Bennett, and Bob Paisley began reshaping the team. The club was promoted to the First Division in 1962, which it won for the first time in 17 years in 1964. The following year, the club won its first FA Cup title, before winning the First Division again in 1966. Liverpool won the league and UEFA Cup double during the 1972-1973 Season and the FA Cup again a year later; soon afterwards, Shankly retired and was replaced by his assistant Bob Paisley. Under Paisley, the club won another league and UEFA Cup double 1976, just his second season as manager. The following season the club retained the league title, won the European Cup for the first time, but lost in the FA Cup final. Liverpool retained the European Cup the following season, before regaining the First Division title in 1979. During the nine seasons in which Paisley was manager, Liverpool won 21 trophies, including three European Cups, a UEFA Cup, six league titles and three consecutive League Cups; the only domestic trophy to elude him was the FA Cup.

Paisley retired in 1983 and was replaced by his assistant Joe Fagan. Liverpool won the League, League Cup and European Cup in Fagan's first season, becoming the first English side to win three trophies in a season. Liverpool reached the European Cup final again in 1985, against Juventus at the Heysel Stadium and lost 1–0.

Fagan resigned and Kenny Dalglish was appointed as player manager. During his reign, the club won another three League Championships and two FA Cups, including a League and Cup "Double" in the 1985-86 Season.

He was replaced by former player Graeme Souness, an FA Cup in 1992 was Souness' only trophy and he was replaced by Roy Evans. Liverpool won the League Cup in 1995 and a 4-3 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield on 3 April 1996, which was named in April 2003 as the Match of the Decade

Gerrard Houllier was appointed as co-manager in the 1998-99 season, he became the sole manager in Novermber 1998 after Evans resigned. In Houllier's second full season in charge, Liverpool won a treble of the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. Houllier was replaced by Rafael Benitez at the end of the 2003-2004 Season. Despite finishing fifth in Benitez's first season, Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League beating AC Milan 3–2 in a penalty shootout after the match finished 3–3. The following season Liverpool finished third and won the 2006 FA Cup Final beating West Ham United in a penalty shootout after the match finished 3–3.

The club reached the 2007 Champions league Final against Milan in a repeat of the 2005 final, this time however, they lost 2–1. In the 2008-2009 Season Liverpool achieved 86 points, their highest Premier League points total, and finished as runners up to manchester United. The following season the club finished seventh and failed to qualify for the Champions League. Benitez was subsequently sacked and replaced by Fulham manager Roy Hodgson.

At approximately 16.30 on 15 October 2010, Liverpool FC issued a statement confirming the club had been sold to New England Sports Ventures for £300 million.

On the 8th January Roy Hodgson was sacked and the King returned home on a temporary contract till the end of the season

Squad Review

Goalkeeper

Pepe Reina: One of the best Goalkeepers out there. A No 1 for many years to come should look to keep him till he retires.

Brad Jones: A new addition. A decent backup who should be replaced by a younger keeper but will do for the first season. Also counts as a Homegrown player

Charles Itandje Sell straight away

Goalkeeper Summary: One great keeper. One decent keeper and one awful keeper. No need for investment straight away unless you are desperate to replace Jones.

Centre Backs

Jamie Carragher: The rock at the heart of the defence. At 32 Carragher is getting on but still has good Attributes in the right places. Just don’t expect any great pace from him. If fit should be in the first team week in week out.

Martin Skrtel: A solid Centre Back Skrtel should be challenging Agger and Carragher for a first team slot.

Sotiris Kyrgiakos: Decent backup. But the big Greek should be replaced as soon as possible.

Daniel Agger: Faster than the others. Agger should be one of the first names on the team sheet good all round Attributes.

Danny Wilson A new addition also a player with potential. Should look to keep at the club for many years to come. Look to get him tutored straight away and give him game time.

Centre Back Summary: Out of the five defenders Wilson is one to watch. Carragher still has a good two seasons in him. While Agger and Skrtel are good enough for the first team. Would only bring someone in if you sold Kyrgiakos or you could just stick with the other four .

Right Backs

Glen Johnson: The best Right Back at the club. More of an attacking full back than a defensive one.

Martin Kelly: A good enough Right Back to rotate with Johnson after having a boost in patch 11.3.

Right Back Summary: One first teamer. One good backup who could make the spot his own in the future.

Left Backs

Fabio Aurelio: A fairly decent left back. Should maybe look to replace sooner rather than later or keep till Insua gets back from his loan spell then sell.

Paul Konchesky: A new addition who is a similar level to Aurelio. Maybe keep for the first season as he is Homegrown or loan out then look to sell in season 2.

Left Back Summary: Two decent players. But should maybe look to bring a better Left Back in straight away and when Insua comes back next season sell Aurelio and Konchesky.

Midfielders

Raul Meireles: A new addition to the squad very good all rounder. Worth keeping scores a few screamers.

Lucas: Maybe one for the transfer list. Could be decent backup but better players can be brought in.

Joe Cole: A new addition to the squad. Very creative player. Liverpool's new No 10.

Steven Gerrard: Captain Fantastic. A vital part of the team and possibly one of Liverpool's best ever players. Don't ever sell

Jonjo Shelvey A new addition plus English which is always good. One for the future but give him as many games as you can to aid his development. Might be Worth getting him tutored by Gerrard.

Cristian Poulsen A new addition brought in to replace Mascherano. Will provide decent backup till better players are brought in.

Midfielder Summary: Shelvey has a bright future so should be kept. Lucas could be sold and Poulsen maybe depending on what formation your playing. Gerrard, Cole and Meireles should be in the first team as much as possible as all are top players.

Wingers

Maxi Rodriguez: Very Good mental stats but with him nearing 30 maybe keep him till Jan/End of season then look to sell and replace with a younger player.

Dirk Kuyt: Mr Enigizer. Lots of energy will run and run. Always gives 100% but dont expect magic from him just hard work and the odd goal.

Winger Summary:

Only three wingers and two should looked to be replaced . Jovanovic could also be played there as backup if needed. Some quality needed bringing in if using wingers.

Strikers

Andrew Carroll: New signing and at the age of 22 will be at the club for many years due to his potential. A key player who should bring a new dimension to the attack with his Height, Power, Strength not many, if any will beat him in the air.

Daniel Pacheco: One of the brightest talents in the squad. Make sure you give him games. Another one for the future.

David N'Gog: A Decent Backup . Should look to play him in the League Cup and Lower Premier League/Europa League games. Could turn out good but there are better options out there.

Milan Jovanovic A new arrival but would maybe be third choice. Either loan out straight away or keep till Jan then see if you could sell.

Luis Suarez: With Torres gone someone will need to fill his shoes and Suarez is the Man. Pace, Skill and with an eye for goal he should get you plenty of goals alongside Carroll. At 24 will be at the club for years and should form a great partnership with Carroll.

Strikers Summary: Two amazing players, two with potential and one needing replacing. Look to bring a striker or two depending on what formation your playing

Mines still downloading hate mobile broadband looking forward to the new features hope the patch fixes the game with the new owners.

I'm in work, had the laptop on for a little while to have a look at it. Really like the new interactive stuff with the board and the players. great feature

as far as the squad goes at first look we really need a new lb, CB and cover for RB as johnson is good enough in the game. you will probably get through season 1 with the CB's there but only agger and wilson are worth keeping with carra becoming squad cover

midfield depends on what foramtion you plan on using. i'll be going with a 433/451 formation so i'll be looking to bring in 2 CM, 1 defensive and 1 attacking.

out wide i think we need at least 1 winger maybe 2 as i reckon Maxi and babel are good options to sell to raise cash.

Upfront 1 striker definitely needed even if you are playing 1 upfront as Torres will be injury prone and Ngog is not good enough to start only as cover.

Havent had a chance to look for players yet

I think the general ratings of the first team squad are ok. Youth underrated slightly in my opinion, as Staf9 said only Suso looks half decent in the u18's. Michael Ngoo has been making strides for England at youth level, as has Adam Morgan and Andre Wisdom. Minor issues are Babel's pace and acceleration. He might not have shown his true potential whatsoever but no-one can deny he is quick. 18 for each wouldnt be out of the question. There are other minor things but I won't bore you all, I'll chuck them in the data issues thread.

At work now but looking forward to playing on it more later.

don't think there's much wrong with the ratings of the first team squad, were just weak in thos area's IMO and they can be strenghtened in the game.

Id say they will release a patch to put the new owners in.

Better. cant really start a long term save without it. unless you want to take the chance of an In game takeover.

i'll be looking to sell a few players for funds and bring in players u21 who can develope.

Waheyyyy a new subscription on the ol' SI Forums... Liverpool FC: Getting Back To Where We Belong.

I will be on later after the match and should have a good first time review on what's going on with MH looking to take over as Liverpool manager later tonight.

Rumors came about earlier today that Hodgson would be sacked after the game tonight and MH has already got a contract agreed to take the role as new LFC manager!

He's hoping to sell, Poulsen, Babel, Konchesky. But is furious he can't recall Aquilani or Insua!

And sorry to put us on a downer but we have to wait another 2 weeks before we can actually start our full game and have our debts cleared with the update which hopefully will come our pretty quick! :(

Alright mate ive heard this is Hodgson's last game tonight

Just loading my save up getting to play it for the first time

Oh i have also posted the squad review up

Aye that's been floating aroung ours all day, he may be going soon, just have to wait and see..

Enjoy your game, I'll post my start later on, having my tea now before shooting the pub :D

Squad review is awesome well in mate! My opinion is to have M.Kelly as the RB cover over Darby though.

I had a takeover bid failed by a foreign tycoon. I was fuming!! I was promised £93m if it was successful - Broughton rejected.

Unlucky mate

I only put Darby as Kelly is rated lower although i think he could have been better on fm11

Am only on my save for 1/2 hr as am off to see the wife and kids for an hr

Ooh Shelvey starting tonight.

Looks like i'll be using him and Wilson a lot as we start with £0! Kellys stats arent improved as much as they should be.

Trying to get Finnan on a free as backup.

Hodgson should off threw him on in the derby we were getting beat and give the lad a chance
