Acer for only FM, Dell for overall/gaming.

Can anyone tell me what I can expect from playing FM2011 on the following laptop:

AMD Sempron 1.8GHz

1GB RAM

Windows system rating 3.0

5 leagues with 12,000 players

I've just doubled the RAM in my machine, meaning my specs for FM this year are

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.00GHz

4GB (4x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT card

Windows 7 64bit.

The Graphics card isn't amazing, this is because I had a 320MB XFX 8800GTS fail on my a few weeks ago which I haven't replaced yet.

Still, the extra RAM I added has improved the demo speed no end. I get to see the opening 5-10 minutes of games and everything!

:)

So definatley not the Sony one then? As for leagues and players and 3d, will the acer/dell be just average or quite good? Thanks

No. Acer will run 3D on high.

Acer will run 40 to 50 leagues and the dell 20 to 25 leagues. IMO.

Hi guys. I'm thinking of buying a new laptop for no more than £500.

I've found this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-15-6-inch-Notebook-Pentium-Windows/dp/B003S3R7RU/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1288023427&sr=1-4

Could anyone tell me how this one would do with FM, or suggest any better ones they know of.

Thanks for any help.

Here's a better one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-dv6-3050sa-06474346-pdt.html

If you don't like that colour there's the white version http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-dv6-3032sa-06559636-pdt.html

HD5450 and HD5470 is no upgrade at all. You won't notice the difference.

Make sure. Or the CPU will be wasted

BTW 1055T is not 220 AUD. its $250.

And 1055t if you are not OCing. 965BE or 1090T if you are OCing.

Thanks Ishu. I've actually seen it for $233 and now I've found it for 199 at a local PC shop. Thanks for the advice guys, think I'll go with the 2.8 GHz 6 core on the 890fx board.

Seriously. Thats cool but would that 30-40 leagues with 60,000 players run comfortably or horribaly with the intel pentium dual-core processor and 4gb ram?

I would say 20 to 25 leagues with 80,000 players (If its Win 7 64bit).

I've got a macbook...

core 2 duo 2ghz

3gb ram

how many leagues/players should i be running for a decent speed game? I run about 8 leagues and 18k players on fm10 but always feel i may have undercooked it, I like to play long term games.

ps looking at the new macbook pro core i5 or i7, how many would these be able to run. probably with 4gb ram.

AMS

If you're willing to spend £50 you could go for this, which is better than the two above, http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/toshiba-satellite-l505-144-04127246-pdt.html

Or this one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspire-5553g-06282363-pdt.html

Thanks for writing back. I quite like the look of that Toshiba, but it seems to be sold out everywhere online :(

Must be popular!

FML the demo runs pretty slow on my current laptop so looks as though I'm going to have to delve into my pocket. And on further thought I don't have a clue on how to upgrade the family desktop so would probably be best off just buying a new tower. Any suggestions?

Correct me if I am wrong but having anything over 4GB of RAM is pointless?

On 32bit OS yes. On 64bit no.

Get a new box and use old monitor, speaker.

Possibly use stuff from inside the box too.

Cool, well what do you think of this?

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-dv7-4050ea-06487014-pdt.html

Slightly less powerful, but about the same price and part of me would prefer to get a 'brand name'. Plus I'm not too keen on the finance options at pcspecialist.

Site not working

Yeah I will use the old monitor. Could I just replace the parts from within my box with the new ones, is it really that easy?

As Tigertime said its very easy. If you watch some youtube videos beforehand it will be a breeze.

I have a friend building a PC for me and I am currently specing it out (as he would have me spending thousands!). I want to run FM quickly but with as many leagues as possible - what could I get upto with this spec;

Processor (CPU)

AMD ATHLON II X4 645 (3.10GHz/2MB CACHE/AM3)

Motherboard

ASUS® M4A79XTD EVO: DUAL DDR3, S-ATA II, 2 x PCIe x16, 2 x PCIe x1, 2 x PCI

Memory (RAM)

8GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)

Graphics Card

1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5750 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11

Memory - 1st Hard Disk

60GB OCZ VERTEX 2 SATA II 2.5" SSD (upto 285MB/sR | 275MB/sW)

2nd Hard Disk

1TB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

OS

Windows 7 64 bit

Will a SSD have much impact on the game speed?

Thanks in advance.

Yea it was down earlier for maintenance but it's working now. I have a £1000 budget, it's the best pre-built machine I've seen for under a grand.

I'd rather have a better processor than an SSD (For FM).

CONS old motherboard, weak CPU, Samsung RAM.

Yea it was down earlier for maintenance but it's working now. I have a £1000 budget, it's the best pre-built machine I've seen for under a grand.

Looks very good. Get it ASAP :D

Ishu thanks for your input.

I have kicked SSD to upgrade the cons you highlighted. They are as follows;

Processor (CPU)

AMD PHENOM II X4 970 (3.50GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3) - BLACK EDITION

Motherboard

ASUS® M4A87TD/USB3: DUAL DDR3,SATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0

Memory (RAM)

8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (4 x 2GB KIT)

Graphics Card

1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTS450 GDDR5 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11

How would this run? Thanks.

Yes, it is pretty easy. Can you tell me your specs?

For the Dell Inspiron 530, which I'm not on at the moment so these are just off the top of my head

1GB Ram

1.6 GHZ Intel Celeron Processor

I'll get back to you with the full specs tomorrow.

Looks good

Yea i thought so...what is confusing me is why this laptop is priced higher for a (apparently) lower spec?

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-envy-14-1050ea-06487011-pdt.html

Surely the i7 720qm is better than the i5 450m?

Which one would u go for out of the two?

No idea. Maybe because its a 14".

For the Dell Inspiron 530, which I'm not on at the moment so these are just off the top of my head

1GB Ram

1.6 GHZ Intel Celeron Processor

I'll get back to you with the full specs tomorrow.

Is this the Desktop specs?? If yes, it needs to be replaced completely.

Thanks Ishu :) I am running Windows 7 64 Bit, so FM will be able to see and use the 6GB of RAM I have installed?

Thanks

Actually on 64bit FM will use 4GB RAM. 2GB can be used by windows, softwares etc. In 32bit FM can only use 2GB.

ok, after much deliberation.. ive decided to go for a desktop instead.. (more bang for my buck and a laptop can come later for web browsing etc)

so..... £600 budget.... whats the best gaming pc i can get? baring in mind the games in question will be Football manager , total war series and possibly the likes of arma 2
