England - The Road to 2012 (now featuring Wayne Rooney) but not his touch

Gerrard or Milner out of position then, brilliant.

Is that team confirmed? As expected if so.

I'm off to the tube anyway, see you on the other side :)

I honestly don't know how Upson keeps getting in the starting XI. He was dire last season and dire at the WC.

Give youth a chance etc ... and he keeps playing Upson :thdn:

I don't like Lescott and he had just as average a season as Upson last season but he has played with Jagielka before. Surely you'd play them two from that squad.

Could be going 433 with Rooney Wide Left like he has done for United too much for you guys to hope for?

Should've played Lescott. Or Dawson. Or Cahill. Upson is crap.

Gerrard on the left, Milner and Barry in the middle then?

Going to be the first England game (aside from the WC) that I've watched since you guys beat Croatia 4-1 or something.

His partnership with Jagielka.

Out of all the defenders in the squad, them two have played together.

Gerrard plays center mid for Liverpool

Milner plays left wing for Man City

Explain which one is out of position?

Just because Milner had a good season in midfield doesn't mean he suddenly can't play on the wing.

He doesn't play left wing in a 4-4-2 though, a 4-3-3 winger is much different to playing as a 4-4-2 winger as well. Ofcourse he can do it but it's not his best position by far, and it's also not Gerrards best position by far. 4-4-2 just does not fit this England squad and hasn't for ages, constantly playing people out of position.

Would agree with jmr here as an impartial observer.

Milner as a winger is best in an advanced position. Gerrard as a central player is also better in an advanced position. It's either one player in a position that isn't getting the best out of them or it's both of those players in a position that isn't getting the best out of them.

It wouldnt surprise me if Capello put Gerarrd on the left.

EDIT;

SSN reports

Hart

Johnson,Dawson,Jags,Cole

Walcott,Milner.Barry.Gerarrd

Rooney Defoe

No Upson at least.

It is quite amusing that when Jermain was banging in goals for fun(for both Spurs and England) he could still never get a starting place, now he's in horrible form and suddenly starts the 1st game of England's qualifying campaign.

FFS why Gerrard left?

At least

Johnson------Upson--------Jag------------Cole

--------------------------Barry------------------------

-----------Walcott------------------Milner-----------

--------------------------Gerrard----------------------

-------------------Defore---------Rooney------------

Or something.

The more Gerrard continues to play badly on the left the more Capello wants to play him there. Gerrard should just have a blazing performance on the left and maybe Capello can take note and drop him.

19.25: Apparently, goalkeeper Joe Hart making his first competitive start for England means Manchester City owe Shrewsbury £500,000.

Have you ever heard Collymore commentating on TalkSport? I was listening to the Newcastle-Villa match and Collymore claimed that "3-0 is always a dodgy score to go into the break with as the opposition only need to score a couple of quick goals"

Magic

Good! Gerrard in the middle we will see style and goals. I am please with that.

442 - Good!

Gerrard Centre - Good

Miner - left = Oksih

2 and half out of 3 isn't bad.

I expect it to be 2 - 3 goals scored tonight.

Jermain Defoe just terrible at the top level just a flat track bully who does nothing against decent teams, we should be playing one up front as we surely have to if we come up against a team that is decent

When has Gerrard not played in the middle for england under Capello?

maybe when he's been playing on the left for virtually the whole time Capello has been in charge???

No, when he played there he move centrally during attacks and moved to the left when defending.

Well then you have answered your own question and made yourself look stupid by trying to be too smart for your own good.

When we are defending tonight will he be on the left?? No.

Also when he played from the left a lot of the time him and rooney would link up down the left, so its not true to say he played centrally during attacks.
