I really tried to get the fans in my section going, a few come on England's and ROOONEY, ROOOONEY chants, you know the usual....nothing. I gave up eventually. I couldn't help but compare it to White Hart Lane, just a simple 'yid aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarmy' shout can get every going there. Good match, but very frustrating crowd I found. We had a nice spell of possesion in the 2nd half and the OMG guess what, one of the players had the audacity to passs it BACKWARDS once, so the crowd started moaning, I shouted out 'stop moaning and show some support' even no one reacted to that!

not defending the lifeless people around you but you sound like a dork. nothing worse than someone who can't judge the mood of company he's in. cringing thinking of what you just described.

So much was made of this 'cool climate' World Cup as if we and we alone would benefit from this, all those South Americans they hate the cold "brrrrrr" love a bit of sun and humidity they do. It's ridiculous really, all players prefer to play in comfortable environment, if it's not natural you prepare for it and you don't allow players to make excuses about it. Plenty of hot countries did ok in the World Cup 'well I never"! so we shouldn't allow this hot weather to get in our player's heads before Brazil, let's face it, it's a summer tournament, chances are it'll be hot somewhere!

I can see how I have worded that poorly and it sounds worse than it actually was. Firstly I've seen it happen before where the crowd is very dead and one person being enthusiastic can get everyone going. It was no more than a few attempts at getting chants going and I don't see a problem with that, it is a football match at the end of the day. I tried right at the beginning, after we got a goal and a couple of times later- once after a nice piece of play by Rooney, I don't think I even attempted anything else after 30 minutes.

If you have a problem with the passing backwards incident, one of the only times they actually showed some life was when they moaned about England passing the ball back. One of the major criticisms of England is their lack of patience in possession, if the crowd moans about them taking their time (especially when already in a winning position), it's a factor (however small) in the team over rushing things.

The 'fickleness' of England fans made me frustrated, that despite a 4-0 win, the things that got them going were booing Ashley Cole, insulting the Bulgarian fans and moaning about a backwards pass.

Anyway you can call me a dork, but I don't think I was over the top and thought I was reasonable in anything I did say.

I'd be prepared to argue that Gerrard is better than Lampard and maybe that you couldn't seperate the two but that statement is crazy.

Just because Lampard scores 20 goals a season from his 1000 shots a season doesn't make him better.

Gerrards all round game is better and I think his best position is where he played last night. However Lampard scores more goals and is more of a threat going forward. 2 different type of players imo.

Since 2004

Lampard 127 goals 91 assists

Gerrard 91 goals 52 assists

75 extra goals contributed from Lampard over 6 years. Not even close.

Whatever the arguments about the respective merits of each player and tactical implications and whatnot (and they've been done to death, people have their opinions and nobody's likely to change), let's get it right.

Lampard had 109 shots in 36 league appearances last season. Gerrard had 105 in 33 league appearances. Work out the higher per-match average (and there's not much in it).

From some comments I'm convinced people don't have a clue about how Lampard plays any more, some of them may have been warranted a few years ago but not any more.

I thought Lampard played really well last season and was our form player going into the World Cup.

Doesn't he sit deeper (with Essien, I mean, not with Mikel) and take a lot less speculative shots, mostly shooting from inside the area?

Well he didn't have Essien for the part of last season where we ditched the diamond, but he played deeper yeah. Average position somewhere on the halfway line. At the end of the season we had a front three of Anelka/Drogba/Kalou with Malouda as the most attacking of three midfielders.

He's scored three goals from outside the box in the last two seasons, and only one of those would be what people would see as a 'typical Lampard effort'. He's more likely to play a pass than shoot when receiving the ball now, but because of the movement of the front three he gets more space inside the box to time the run and be able to shoot first time. His words in a recent interview anyway.

My feelings on Gerrard/Lampard for England has always been and certain things coming out about the way Sven dealt (or didn't take charge) of players makes me think it even more is that we have 2 great midfielders there but they're operating in this 'sort it out between you both' with regards to this '1 sitting, 1 goes' malarky. I honestly always felt that neither of these massive players particularly wanted to impose their game on the other so we ended up with neither here, nor there.

No one wants to say "I'll be more attacking/playing my natural game, you be more holding" cause they have a lot of respect for each other so we get the best of neither a lot of the time

Goal shy Swiss losing patience? ... always think of them as a little toothless, if we can keep a clean sheet today big part of the job done, I'd take a point but you don't really fancy them to reign pressure down on your goal.

Can England overcome that record breaking Swiss defence?

Wilshire back for U21s ... that game on a bit before the full international so will probably watch that, must win, etc

We could be playing Argentina in some friendlies

Fielding did that nice 'spill the ball/where is it' bit as well just to keep the comedy England keeping on the go ;)

Am I right in thinking we need to win this and then we should get in a play off to go to Denmark .. Greece will win our group and go automatically?

Just realised this is on sky. Gotta decide whether to miss it or go down the pub. Really can't be arsed to get dressed and go socialise down the pub with a bunch of people telling me how great Gerrard is, yet I'd feel like i'm missing out (on probably a very overhyped game) if I don't watch it.

Why can't it be on ITV? :(

Wales only narrowly missed out on qualifying. Basically comes down to Italy scored more away goals in matches between them (Wales lost 1-0 in Italy today and won 2-1 when they played in Wales) which meant Italy topped the group then Wales weren't among the best second-place finishers.

Romania, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Sweden, Croatia, Ukraine, Greece, Scotland, Spain, Belarus and Iceland are the other teams in the draw.

Everton kept a clean sheet in 5 of the last 8 matches that J.Lescott & P.Jagielka were partnered in defence in the Premier League. Trust

Going with the hope they can rekindle that partnership then. Hart has looked solid in goal so should be good at the back I think.
