philly85
Premier League. vs Liverpool.Home This was always going to be a tasty fixture for the first game of the new season especially with new signings for the citizens to test their quality against 18 time league champions Liverpool. Manchester City outplayed Liverpool all over the park which showed then Man City raced into a 4-0 lead at half time with two goals from Nihat, one from Orlando Engelaar and a stunner from Elano. Whatever happened at half time in the Man City dressing room must have fallen on deaf ears as Liverpool clawed three goals back in lucky fashion but it was not enough as Man City opened their new season with a new look squad and a deserved win 4-3 over Liverpool. Result: Manchester City 4-3 Liverpool Attendance: 47,936 Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan(Onouha 67), Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes (Johnson 67), Ireland, Elano, Van Der Vaart, Engelaar, Nihat (Caicedo 67 Liverpool Team: Reina, Finnan (Kewell 45), Riise, Carragher, Agger, Gerrard, Babel, Alonso, Mascherano (Arbeloa 44), Torres (Voronin 71), Crouch Premier League. vs Reading.Home Manchester City picked up where they left off with Liverpool but not before promising defender Vedran Corluka headed into his own net in a 2-1 victory for the citizens over Reading. The match was pretty boring in itself with little chances for either side, the only difference being Man City managed to convert more chances into goals than Reading did. A goal each for Caicedo and Richards made it 2 wins out fo 2 for the new season. The victory was overshadowed by the injury to Elano who is expected to be out of action for around 2 months. Result: Manchester City 2-1 Reading Attendance: 46,418 Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan, Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Elano (Onouha 86), Fernandes, Nihat (Ireland 69), Van Der Vaart, Engelaar, Caicedo Reading Team: Federici, Murty, Rosenior, Cisse, Ingmarsson, Barnetta (Bikey 45), Hunt, Gunnarsson, Harper, Doyle (Lita 66), Kitson (Matejovski) Premier League. vs Bolton.Away Winning ways found their way from The City of Manchester Stadium across town to The Reebok Stadium as Manchester City stayed top of the table with a well deserved 2-0 victory over Bolton live on Sky Sports 1 at midday. The citizens continued to gel as a team and look a well oiled machine under new management with goals from Stephen Ireland and another goal this season from new signing Orlando Engelaar sealed the victory for Man City as Bolton were run ragged all over the pitch. Result: Bolton 0-2 Manchester City Attendance: 27,971 Bolton Team: Jaaskelainen, Hunt, Samuel, Meite, O'Brien, Guthrie, Taylor (Braaten 40), McCann, Helgusson (Vaz Te 45), Rasiak (Alonso 65) Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan (Ball 39), Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes, Sidwell, Ireland, Van Der Vaart (Geovanni 67), Engelaar (Bojinov 67), Nihat Premier League. vs Tottenham.Away The dream start was brought to a shuddering halt at White Heart Lane for Man City as Spurs ran rings around the Citizens defence and ran riot on the pitch in a 3-1 victory over the league leaders. Orlando Engelaar had a little victory of his own as he scored yet again but it was soon cancelled out with a brace from Spurs new signing Jefferson Farfan and a late goal from Younes Kaboul sealed Man City's fate and blemished their unbeaten start to the season. Result: Tottenham 3-1 Manchester City Attendance: 36,247 Spurs Team: Robinson, Hutton, Bale (Malbranque 77), Kaboul, Chimbonda, Farfan, Gilberto (Rocha 83), Jenus, Tainio, Berbatov, Keane (Dawkins) Man City Team: Akinfeev, Ferreira (Onouha 66), Ball, Richards, Corluka, Johnson, Sidwell, Ireland, Van Der Vaart, Engelaar, Caicedo (Geovanni 66) Carling Cup 2nd Round vs Luton Town.Home This was a test after a 3-1 defeat by Spurs and Man City answered their critics with a thundering 4-0 victory with a weaker side. Orlando Engelaar scored yet again for his 4th goal in 5 games but the performance of the night came from Felipe Caicedo who bagged 3 goals for The Citizens and made it look rather easy. Luton put up a good fight but it wasnt enough to stop Man City putting their names in the hat for the Carling Cup 3rd round. Man City are expected to do well this season with the new players the have signed and today they proved they are up to the task in all domestic competitions. Result: Manchester City 4-0 Luton Town Attendance: 39,467 Man City Team: Hart, Ferreira, Garrido, Richards, Salwaew, Fernandes (Johnson 45), Hammann, Nihat (Ireland 71), Van Der Vaart (Logan 71), Engelaar, Caicedo Luton Team: Brill, Jackson, Goodall, Perry, Davis, O'leary (Emanuel 73), Bell, Keane, Spring, Talbot (Maitland 73), Furlong (Andrew 73)

philly85
Premier League. vs Chelsea.Home This was always going to be a very good match so close to the new season, but with Man City's recent form many tipped The Citizens for a surprise victory and they were right as Man City battled for their lives in a 2-0 victory. Igor Akinfeev and Petr Cech stole the show saving a total of 30 shots between them, some of the best displays seen in the Premier League in a long time. Whilst Chelsea always looked like scoring Man City did via Felipe Caicedo then in the dying minutes to seal the victory from substitue Michael Johnson. If this is a sign of things to come City fans can enjoy the rest of their season. Result: Manchester City 2-0 Chelsea Attendance: 47,908 Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan, Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Ireland (Johnson 56), Sidwell, Nihat, Van Der Vaart, Engelaar, Caicedo (Geovanni 77) Chelsea Team: Cech, Ivanovic, A Cole, Carvalho, Terry, Essien, Lampard (Modric 69), J Cole, Kalou (Shevchenko 77), Diego, Drogba (Anelka 69) League Position: 2nd

philly85
Orlando Engelaar Talks To Manchester Evening News New signing Orlando Engelaar took time out this week to relax and speak with Manchester Evening News Newspaper about his first month in English football. Inteviewer: Thank you for taking this time to speak to us Orlando, its much appreciated. Engelaar: Your welcome, its nice to get a break and relax and speak with the media Inteviewer: So how are you finding the area? Must be difficult knowing the city is divided between both teams, whats your take on that? Engelaar: Yeah i knew about the rivalry before i moved here, i have encountered a few United supporters and even players on my travels around Manchester, have not had any trouble with either of them to be honest, its a nice place here, big city with a big fan base. I love it here and i want to stay here for a very long time. Interviewer: Well thats great were glad your finding it easy to fit in, but how are you adapting to life in the premiership? five goals in four games, cant be all bad can it? Engelaar: This is a very tough league, ive never ran so much in all my life in one game. Everything is so fast and you have to be so quick im making decisions on and off the ball. Its like playing 5 a side but on a full size pitch mentality wise in terms of decision making and movement but yeah ive managed to score a few goals and i hope to continue to score goals in this league. Interviewer: How about the team? How have you settled in? How are the new guys settling in? Engelaar: Well the guys are brilliant, they are so friendly and i think coming into the squad with so many other new signings it helped us all to bond with each other. Spirits are high at the moment because of our recent form and we all work hard and want it to carry on. Interviewer: Tremendous, Thank you very much Orlando, I wish you the best of luck for the season ahead and lets hope you can carry on winning. Engelaar Thank you very much and thank you for taking the time to interview me.

philly85
Premier League. vs Aston Villa.Away Manchester City's surge to the top four took a slightly unexpected turn as Aston Villa put up a good fight in a 2-2 draw. Villa looked comfertable at the back and defended with ease, so much ease that a penalty was condeeded, up stepped Rafael Van Der Vaart to convert the penalty after Elano opened the scoring on 2 minutes after returning from injury. Speaking of injury Nihat went off injured in a game that was pretty exciting but neither side could find a winning goal in the end. Villa scored twice via John Carew who appears to be on fire lately. Result: Aston Villa 2-2 Manchester City Attendance: 39,040 Villa Team: Carson, Venta, Salcido (Maloney 86), Laursen, Davies, Young (Routledge 90), Barry, Reo-Coker, Petrov, Abonglahor (Vermaelen), Carew Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan, Garrido, Richards, Onouha, Sidwell, Corluka (Johnson 57), Elano, Van Der Vaart, Nihat (Ireland 57), Caicedo (Ball 57) League Position: 4th
philly85
Premier League. vs Derby County.Home A different look Man City side took the reigns at The City of Manchester Stadium with high hopes of a dominent win and they followed through with it in a good 3-0 win over a good Derby County side that should have scored a few, but as usual Igor Akinfeev was immense in goal pulling off some fantastic saves to deny Barnes, Ghaly, Panstil to name a few. A good strong solid performance and a sign of things to come from The Citizens surely. Geovanni opened the scoring on 8 minutes with goals followed by Orlando Engelaar's 5th of the season and a stunning volley from a corner kick by defender Vedran Corluka wrapping up the 3-0 vicroty for Man City and putting them into the top 3 in the league table. Result: Manchester City 3-0 Derby County Attendance: 44,044 Man City Team: Akinfeev, Onouha, Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes, Sidwell, Geovanni, Van Der Vaart, Engelaar, Elano Derby Team: Carroll, Pantsil, Dudic, Davis, Todd, Barnes, Robert, Ghaly, Savage, Miller, Villa League Position: 3rd
philly85
Carling Cup 3rd Round. vs Preston.Home This was another chance for manager Philip Sly to rest some of his talent and give his backup players a run out and he did just that and it cost him dearly to begin with as Neil Mellor gave Preston the lead on 18 minutes. Blushes were spared as Felipe Caicedo equalised in the 27th minute and that was how it stayed until substitute Elano came off the bench to score and a well taken goal by Orlando Engelaar made it 3-1 to The Citizens in what could have easily have been a Preston North End victory. In the end a strong display ensured Man City will be in the hat for the 4th round draw. Result: Manchester City 3-1 Preston North End Attendance: 39,501 Man City Team: Hart, Ferreira, Ball, Saiwaew, Corluka, Fernandes, Hammann, Ireland, Geovanni, Engelaar, Caicedo (Elano 61) Preston Team: Szamotulski, Hart, Hill, Mawene, St. Ledger, Sedgwick, Neal, Jones, Chaplow, Hawley, Mellor

A new look Citizens side for the season struck first blood with a goal from Felipe Caicedo on 6 minutes, after that the rest was history with goals from Elano and Micah Richards sealing a 3-0 victory for Man City. philly85
Premier League. vs Portsmouth. Home Manchester City were looking to maintain a good run of form ahead of their derby clash with Manchester United next week with a win over a well organized Pompey side. They got that result in 47th minute when lone striker Felipe Caicedo hit a volley from outside the area and hit the back of the net sealing a well deserved 1-0 victory for The Citizens against Pompey. Elano's run of good form after a return from injury was cut short in the first half when he was injured yet again. Pompey never really got going and a host of brilliant saves from Igor Akinfeev made sure Man City walked away with the 3 points. Result: Manchester City 1-0 Portsmouth Attendance: 46,599 Man City Team: Akinfeev, Ferreira, Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes, Sidwell, Elano (Ireland 45), Van Der Vaart, Engelaar, Caicedo Portsmouth: James, Johnson, Hreidarsson, Campbell, Distin, Utaka, Kranjcar, Diarra, Muntari, Defoe, Kanu League Position: 2nd Premier League. vs Manchester United.Away This was the fixture everyone in Manchester was looking for when the list came out and they found it very near the top which added for extra excitement with everything to play for so early on in the match. With both teams in the top three this could have gone either way but it never, the game ended in a 2-2 draw. United raced into an early lead with goals from Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha and City had Paulo Ferreira sent off just before the break for a second bookable offence. With the second half looking very bleak for The Citizens there way only one way, up. They found a second wind a pulled goals back from Caicedo and Engelaar. This draw will spice things up for the next time these two sides meet. Manchester United 2-2 Manchester City Attendance: 76,197 Man Utd Team: Van Der Sar, O'Shea, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Giggs, Carrick, Scholes, Saha, Tevez Man City Team: Akinfeev, Ferreira, Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes, Sidwell, Geovanni, Ireland, Engelaar, Caicedo League Position: 3rd Premier League. vs Wigan Athletic.Home This was always going to be a boring fixture and it was proved with a Stephen Ireland goal sealing a 1-0 victory for Man City. While the game was boring it was still a fantastic result for Manchester City because it put them up into 2nd position in the league and 2 points behind the leaders Chelsea and 2 points ahead of rivals Man Utd in 3rd place. Man City gave a solid performance with a very organized back 4 cleared anything and everything leaving Igor Akinfeev with not a lot to do which led to the midfield coming into the game a lot more and it was Man City who was who the battle of the day. Result: Manchester City 1-0 Wigan Athletic Attendance: 45,175 Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan, Carrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes, Sidwell, Geovanni, Ireland, Engelaar, Caicedo Wigan Team: Kirkland, Melchiot, Edman, Granqvist, Bramble, Valencia, Taylor, Brown, Scharner, Vayrynen, Heskey League Position: 2nd
philly85
Carling Cup 4th Round. vs Manchester United.Away Just a few games after the 2-2 draw, the return fixture in the cup told a very different story as Man UTD ran away 4-1 winners against a Man City side who tried their best but couldnt overcome the Red Devils. Manchester United began the onslaught with a goal from Wayne Rooney, followed by a controversial penalty scored by Christiano Ronaldo. Goals late on from Mikel Silvestre and Louis Saha. A goal from Felipe Caicedo provided little pleasure for Man City but they will look to put this result behind them and carry on with their surge up to the top of the table but its very early days yet. Result: Manchester United 4-1 Manchester City Attendance: 76,186 Man UTD Team: Van Der Sar, O'Shea, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Nani, Eagles, Carrick, Scholes, Saha, Tevez Man City Team: Akinfeev, Logan, Garrido, Richards, Corluka, Fernandes, Sidwell, Geovanni, Ireland, Engelaar, Caicedo
