It was in D:\1-Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\games. Do you mean put it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\games? If so that didn't work. I had to create the games folder if that makesany difference?

Are you on XP or Vista? I use Vista and a while back I had to transfer my FM08 sign up from my laptop to my desktop but at first the edited team/nation names wouldn't show up but then I put it into the 'Public' folder and it worked. It's not under 'documents & settings' though..

i would try as DodgeeD said, if you havent already, and put it in c:\documentsandsettings\user\mydocuments\sportsinteractive\FM09\db.

or alternitively, start, my documents, sports interacitve, FM 09, db.

games is for save games, db is for databases

hope that helps

Ooops. This reminds me I was going to email you that file, sorry Robert. I just don't think it's possible to move a database -it's precisely the problem we had in Wallace v Roberts last year, and I've seen the problem posted elsewhere since, never with a satisfactory answer. One for the bugs forum?

Does anyone like the idea of a referee signup?

Users submit officials with custom stats and the like, then every year there are awards for best average rating, most red cards, most penalties etc.

After 20 years or so, the ref with the best average rating is the winner.

Any supplemental ideas, length of competition etc that anyone thinks would mke it better?

Sounds pretty interesting really. Never even thought of doing a referees one before :)

Any ideas on how to work it? I was thinking of making them eligible for all the major english leagues (Prem to League 2) and competitions, and then have the top 5 for the year entered into the Champions League, and the top 3 after 2 years into the Euros/World Cup.

I have no idea of the specifics when it comes to referees and how they would be set-up, so I don't know that I can be much help lol.

Hello, me again.

As some of you may have seen am going to be doing a new-sign up based on Dwarves and Elves.

Now I have been messing about with the editor and am slowly forming the database. (The dwarves are nearly done now, just have to have a go at messing with the graphics and finish what I am about to ask about).

I have put the Dwarves in place of the Faeroe Islands. The League is non-playable. I have put one Dwarf team in the French 2nd Division and am in the process of re-naming the teams in the Faeroe Islands league. Now, do people think it is ok to leave them unplayable, or should I try and swap it with, say the Indian League to make them playable? At the moment I am simply upping the cash and rep of around three of the teams so that some youngsters come through and they get into Europe, do people think that is enough, too much etc?

Also do you think all the Dwarf players should start at the Dwarf team in the French League, mix them between the French team and home teams, or just let them start anywhere?

Thanks

Denther

I found with the Treasure Island sign up that giving good facilites to the domestic teams results in a few good players coming through. Upping the rep and establishing parent club links should help those players get some recognition too. ;)

It's probably best to let the sign up players start in an active league just to ensure they get playing time and exposure.

It is a standard idea, but here is the Experiment I was thinking of doing:

Using the editor, take a team from each other lowest playable leagues in the top European leagues: England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and give them top notch facilities, £20m in the bank, and most importantly, a sugar daddy. I recently did this with AFC Wimbledon, and what was great was that the sugar daddy only pumped in however much money I'd lost that month, so while I always had 20 million in the bank, it didn't get ridiculous.

I was thinking of picking the teams at random (say, the ones with the funniest/most obscure names) and running the game as far as I can (i have a lot of free time this next week). And maybe everyone could pick a team that they would be following, or just follow all of them.

what are your thoughts?

I am thinking about running this sign up, but would like opinions or ideas to fine tune it.

What ingredients make a good team?

The concept is:

I will replace all 12 teams in the Serbian Superleague with custom teams.

In the Serbian Superleague the bottom side is relegated, so to avoid this being a team from a participant, the 12th team will have fairly deflated stats (slightly less than Level 5 in each) and are almost assured relegation.

Their are 10 spots available, after myself and the weakened team. Each participant will be allowed to rate the following areas of importance in an order of 1 to 5, this will form the starting point for each team.

Club Reputation

1/ 7000

2/ 6600

3/ 6200

4/ 5800

5/ 5500

Stadium Size (All Seater) / Average Attendance / Minimum Attendance

1/ 22000 / 14000 / 7000

2/ 17000 / 11000 / 5500

3/ 14000 / 9000 / 4500

4/ 12000 / 7500 / 3750

5/ 10000 / 6000 / 3000

Training Facilities / Youth Facilities

1/ 20 / 20

2/ 16 / 16

3/ 12 / 12

4/ 10 / 10

5/ 8 / 8

Current Ability / Potential Ability (Team of 11 players for Standard 4-4-2)

(Gk, DR, DL, DC, DC, MR, ML, MC, MC, ST, ST)

Players will all be 25yrs old. They will have all random attributes with the exception of CA & PA and Position.

1/ 130 / 150

2/ 120 / 140

3/ 110 / 130

4/ 105 / 125

5/ 100 / 120

Initial Bank Balance

1/ £12,000,000

2/ £7,000,000

3/ £4,000,000

4/ £2,000,000

5/ £0

Order each category in the way that you want your team to be created. Numbering them from 1 to 5 (Using each number only once).

That looks like a good and interesting twist on the norm team sign ups. I would definitely be interested (reserve spot nudge nudge ;))

One other thing you could add would be staff members, so you would have 6 options :)

Any ideas for grading the staff?

Same as the players to be honest.

So For Example

Current Ability / Potential Ability

(Manager, Ass Man, Physio x2, Scout x3, Youth Coach, Fitness Coach, GK Coach, Attacking Coach.)

Staff will all be 40yrs old. They will have all random attributes with the exception of CA & PA and Position.

1/ 130 / 150

2/ 120 / 140

3/ 110 / 130

4/ 105 / 125

5/ 100 / 120

My only reservation is the extra editing, I'll consider it though. (Need to either add a 6th choice for everything, or allow people to choose 2 at the same level.

In that case why not make it something like

1. Manager, Ass Man, Physio, Scout, Youth Coach, Coach

2. Manager, Ass Man, Physio, Scout, Youth Coach

3. Manager, Ass Man, Physio, Scout

4. Manager, Ass Man, Physio

5. Manager, Ass Man

6. Manager

Less editing and you can just make them all the same CA and PA

Edit - actually, yeah I see what you mean about the extra 6th choice editing, like you say you could have two 5th place choices or something.

It should add key staff anyway, but I think I'll use the idea but just for the manager. Probably with larger increments than the squad as 10 CA points between managers probably won't make a world of difference.

CA / PA

160 / 190 (3 manager stats of your choice at 20)

140 / 170 (2 manager stats of your choice at 20)

120 / 150 (2 manager stats of your choice at 20)

110 / 140 (1 manager stat of your choice at 20)

100 / 130 (1 manager stat of your choice at 20)

Perhaps?

Edit: My current problem, is my test database keeps crashing.

I loaded the game up like with my team added, and the finances were already at £800,000, despite starting at £0

(EDIT - Starting at £1 works better than starting at £0)

I will run the game overnight with 2 complete teams (mine & twelth place) to check stability. If it looks good, and no-one has left a noteworthy improvement, I will start a new thread for sign-ups some time tomorrow.

I do have the dedication to see this through, and I hope I can type a worthy write-up. But please understand that it will take time and effort to correctly configure the database, hopefully I won't run into any more stability problems in the test-run.

The game crashes on 1st July 2009. Back to the drawing board for now.

Edit: I have moved all the teams to Scotland, which has a similar league setup (aside from the split). I will try running it again.

2nd Edit: Within 2 months, one of the space saver teams has been given a £50m board takeover - lol. it's also increased the club rep from 6000 to 7200 and youth facilities from 10 to 20. not sure how i'm going to factor that in :-p

All the club reps have decreased slightly, ranging from 3 points to 43 points lost. I may need to adjust the values to make the league average lower, but I'll see how it plays out. Provided it gets past the season handover point.

3rd Edit: Got past season 1, looks stable, I'm going to adjust the League Rep (increase of 1) to balance out the falling Club Reps. I'm going to alter the Initial Bank Balance figures to try and make them more tempting (Scottish football probably needs more money than Serbian football).

Big brother idea sign up-

12 people sign up and every Monday big brother assigns the 'housemates' a short task. Whoever fails to complete the task will face eviction, which will be decided by the forum users not in the sign up. If everyone completes the task then everyone will face eviction. The 'housemates' would assign the task and inform the others on any rules etc. The tasks would have to be fairly short as the deadline would be thursday. I would like some feedback, thanks.

What type of short task?

I would imagine there has been a BB idea before too - I thought about it before I started the FMX-Factor - so it might be worth a search to check.

Would it be a daft question to ask if you'd finished your other sign-up? I've never been involved with your sign-up's but judging by your negative reactions from others, I think you might struggle to get 12 people to sign-up. It's a good idea if not already done though.

The astericks are just my check to make sure every division had a team from N. Ireland and Wales. Hope you like the looks of them. I sorted completely by Reputation and also eg. Leeds was not allowed above their current level. From there I just worked down the list making sure every division had 2 Scottish Teams, 1 Northern Irish Team & 1 Welsh Team (This was based on population figures from last census) And hence here is what we have.

Just to say that Aldershot would never get relegated to the Blue Square North because they are in a very south part of England, in between London and Portsmouth! I know that for a fact because I live there!!

Ayr, Cowdenbeath & Stenhousemuir are from Scotland, and they are in Blue Square South this would have been noticed long before the Aldershot thing. It seems that priority has rightly been placed on league balance, and not geographical accuracy.

I have an idea, though it is similar to one that has just been created by Mendi, though mine is slightly in the idea of an experiment as well. Basically I want to run a League system where each of the clubs are created from a nation ranked outside the top 100 in world football. So there are 108 possible nations that people could be taking control of. I am going to try my best to check out which nations have only a few players and they are likely to be given some extras or be unchoosable. Now I have a few questions for all of you, I was originally going to base it in the Dutch leagues as it is a closed system and they can qualify for the Champions League as well, but possibly the Malaysian League is better with the can only have soo many foreign players. So I will work on the lists of teams that would be usable, what I want an idea from everyone here is what I should make customisable for each nation/club and what I should make standard across the board. I am hoping to have the top league filled with clubs/nations ranked between 101 & 154 and the bottom league with clubs/nations from 155-208. I think this will make for a slightly more exciting league line-up add some variety and generally make it a bit fairer in each league. Now I was thinking of making it so that you must choose a squad from your own nation with say three stars you can draft into the squad, but these three stars must not have any senior caps for their current nation and then they will become declared for your own nation. I am going to be editing this database to set it up properly and then using a ddt file to make sure all the players I put into these clubs will be loaded. So ideas, tips and questions anyone? This would be my first ever sign-up but i am hoping people will support me in it.

Mendi - If you think this is too close to your idea tell me and I will adjust it with some other ideas I had.

Right so I have gone through and of the 108 possible teams 37 have 200+ players, 12 have 100-199, 28 have 50-99, 10 have 30-49 & the remaining 21 have less than 30. Worst being British Virgin with 0, Turks & Caicos Is with 2 & Bahamas with 3. So I think minimum is going to be about 25-30 players so currently there would be 87 possible choices for the sign-up.

In Asia, South America, Oceania and Europe every nation is choosable in Football Manager(I couldn't find any till now, maybe Timor-Leste?) In africa i know that Sao Tomé e Principe is unchoosable and in North America there are many nations unchoosable as shown by Lower Leagues Rule. Montserrat and St. Lucia are unchoosable too from the nations I know, so they have not many players...

Was my idea actually a good one, or is it already used once?

I actually love the idea myself. :) I have always thought a challenge or sign-up or experiment using the lower nations is always more fun. And I love the idea of your challenge. :)

I would like to see a sign-up started which included a created league for the former Jugoslavia. Not really sure what the competition would be specifically, just thought it would be cool to have a league with all the former-Jugoslav teams competing against each other again. i.e. The best Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Slovenian, etc. clubs. Also, maybe following Jugoslavia as a country on the international stage (interesting to see how all the different sub-nationalities do together on one team). Wish I could try this myself but between a horrible computer and work I wouldn't have time.
