Just finished my friendlies and this is how I'm lining up: Only signings are: £11m Barnetta for AMR competition for Govou; Verratti and Rits (both for pennies and for bright futures). Still looking for a LB to give Cissokho a run for his money. Any ideas? Not 100% convinced by my CB's but I'm using Bodmer as a ball playing defender on cover and it certainly helps to play nice football so far. If Lovren turns out half as good as he did in my Spurs 10.2 save then I reckon I'll be happy at CB in the near future. Do you think I could train him to become a ball playing defender or should I concentrate on just making him defend? Pjanic is playing as an advanced playmaker on attack. Is this his best set up? I'd start Barnetta ahead of Govou though - I'm not a Govou fan The starting centre backs are probably the weak point of the team, but they'll do for a season until Cris starts to decline. The future CBs should be Lovren alongside a signing probably, which is more than good enough imo. I've found he's more suited to advanced playmaker (support) myself, as he's not the best finisher in the world and attack would mean he'd get into the box a lot more. With support though I think you'd have to shift his long shots down to sometimes. He would play better as treq, but you've got to consider the rest of the team, and I think having him shirk any defensive responsibilities as a treq would end up a negative thing. Might switch Pjanic to support, but would then have to choose between Lopez or Bastos switching to attack. I'm not keen on a lone forward playing on attack, as they can become isolated. CPS Posted March 28, 2010 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Looks good to me edgar - Cris was pretty disastrous for me so I wouldn't have any qualms playing Lovren right from the start, he's potentially the best ball-playing CB in the game in my view (especially as he's two footed). You're right that, after Cissokho, there are few LB's but Réveillère is comfortable on that side and can play there if needs be - Clerc or Gassama can easily fit into the RB slot then. I've only been Lyon for a season but can assure you that its a fun game to play + you're probably aware that you have a potentially world class team of teenagers to develop which makes for a (hopefully) rewarding long term game. joe__the__man Posted March 28, 2010 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Yeah that's what I did first season, retrained Reveillere to LB and just played with Reveillere, Gassama and Cissokho as the only players capable of being full backs (as I started on 10.2 - no Lovren). I like the balance between attack/support/defend players to be maintained. Don't know if it actually helps but seems to. I've got Reveillere and Gassama retraining at DL just in case nothing good turns up. In other news just got Twente in the CL qualifier. Should get past McLaren easy enough. Thanks, both of you. Well I was only looking for a back up DL. Currently got Reveillere and Cissokho, with Clerc and Gassama as back ups. Neither of them had injuries, which makes it weirder. I guess they must have something my physios were worried about? Anyway still looking. Kleber and Martin Olsson are the 2 I'm looking at now, having been blown out for M'Bengue and the lad from Bordeaux, along with Emanuelson and Felipe! Of your potential freebies, I really rate Kuzmanovic, had him on 10.2 at Spurs and was quality. Defour is not too bad either. Won't Srna be a bit old? Not keen Gignac, never performed for me. joe__the__man Posted March 28, 2010 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Gignac yeah I'm not sure he'd be good enough for the first team either, so he'd really just because he'd be getting in the way of Tafer/Belfodil/Remy, who I want to keep. The same goes for Mario Gomez. But Gignac is French Defour I would like, but again I don't think there's any room for him in the squad, as I already have Sissoko/Sandro/Mehamha that play his role. The same goes for Kuzmanovic, but out of Defour and Kuzmanovic I would rather have Kuzman in my squad tbh, he simply looks better. Also he's top class for my Serbia side, and he's captain. Srna and Jansen are the real ones that are tempting me, and I think I'll probably go for Jansen, as his stats look great, and I'm still lacking any real backup for Cissokho. Srna also looks awesome, and it would be him I go for ahead of Jansen were it not for his age, I think. Fwiw Lisandro has started playing better in recent games. I've changed his role to bring him more into play a little deeper and to hold up the ball a bit more, and it seems to be working in terms of performance. Can also cover at DC, DM and MC and only 20 years old. Season has started well, 3 wins from 3 in the league and a 2-0 win over Twente in the home leg of the CL qualifier. The 2nd leg awaits me tomorrow.
